Pool Policies & Procedures
Swimming and other related activated are excellent ways to get the physical activity needed for a healthy lifestyle. The use of swimming pools is considered a low risk activity as long as the pool is operated and maintained properly and everyone does their part to keep others safe.
Policies and procedures for the Oliver Pool have been developed to minimize the risk communicable disease poses to the health of its employees and to the public. It is imperative that all posted guidelines and directions from the Lifeguards are followed at all times.
Here are some things to consider before you come and during your visit:
• Do not come to the pool if you are sick
• Please wash/sanitize your hands when entering the pool area using soap and water or handsanitizer
• Shower before using the pool and when you get home
• Do not spit or blow your nose in the water
• Do not bring valuables or extra belongings to the pool as lockers will not be in use, bags of personal belongings can be hung on the fence or left on the deck while using the facility
• Aquafit classes have limited to ten participants and preregistration is required
Read through the following pages to learn more about the upcoming season at the Oliver Pool and if you have any questions about our safety plan, the pool schedule, swim lessons, pool rentals or admissions or to preregister for public swimming, please call 250-498-4985 ext 209 or visit www.oliverrecreation.ca

Lightning Policy
Because of the unpredictable nature of lightning and its often disastrous consequences, the Oliver Community Pool will always adhere to the following safety guidelines as set out by the NATIONAL LIGHTNING SAFETY INSTITUTE.
1. When thunder is heard 30 seconds or less after a flash of lightning is observed, the pool will be cleared. Staff strongly recommends that all patrons remain inside the pool building until the storm subsides.
2. Pool activities shall remain suspended until 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard. There will be no exceptions. It should be noted that storms are erratic and even though it may appear “safe” to resume activity, it is not.
3. Swim lessons are also subject to cancellation due to lightning. There will be no reimbursement or rescheduling of the classes that are canceled due to weather.

Saturday, August 19, the excitement gets rolling at 10:30am with our annual downtown Parade. After the parade, come on down to Oliver Community Park for free music and entertainment and food and market vendors right through until 10:00pm.

Disc Golf
The new 9-hole Disc Golf course in Community Park has been getting so much use, which makes our Parks & Rec team very happy!
The kiosk at the start of the course has now been installed as well as tee signs for each hole, including QR codes that can be scanned to view the course map wherever you are. Want to give the course a try but don’t have discs?
Come to the Recreation Admin Office to rent/sign out a set and go play! Not available If baseball diamonds or facilities are being rented.
How to Play Disc Golf
Disc Golf is played like traditional golf, but with discs instead of balls and clubs. One throw (stroke) is counted each time the disc is thrown and/or when a penalty is incurred. The goal is to play each hole in the fewest strokes possible. The player with the lowest total strokes for the entire course wins. The hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in a disc golf basket.
Each hole begins with a tee throw. Tee throws must be completed within or behind the designated tee area marked with a sign.
The “lie” is the spot where the player’s previous throw has landed. Mark each lie with a marker or by leaving the thrown disc on the ground where it landed. The player’s subsequent throw is made from directly behind the marked lie.
The player with the least amount of strokes on the previous hole get to tee off first on the next hole. After all players have teed off, the player whose disc is farthest away from the hole/ basket always throws first.
A disc that comes to rest in the disc golf basket or suspended in the chains constitutes the successful completion of that hole.
