Each year, the Town of Windsor offers a great selection of trees to Windsor residents at discount prices. These trees grow well in the Windsor area and are to be planted within town limits (for clarification on residency, please check your property tax statement). Leave the car at home and bike to work! To celebrate bicycling for transportation, fun and health, Colorado has designated June as Bike Month. While there will be many events around the state throughout the month, the highlight of the month is Bike to Work Day, when employees leave their cars at home and enjoy bicycling to work.

Breakfast Station: A breakfast station will be provided at the Community Recreation Center for anyone riding their bike to work on Wednesday, June 26th. The station will be open from 6am–8am. Staff from Spokes Bicycle Shop will be on hand to offer repair/ help to riders who stop by. Fresh fruit, granola bars and other healthy snacks will be provided for FREE! Jun 26 6–8am CRC

Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk The Town of Windsor Tree Board will host the 8th Annual Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 20th. The race will start and finish at Boardwalk Park and follow the Windsor Lake Trail. Proceeds will go towards planting trees throughout the community. Leashed dogs are welcome. This class brings people in touch with their muscles and can improve posture and balance, especially for those prone to rounded shoulders or shortness on one side.

It is a series of exercises done on mats but can be modified for chairs if need be.

The trip starts out on the St.Vrain River and ends up on the South Platte River at Two Rivers Parkway. No canoeing experience necessary, but must be in good physical condition to paddle a canoe. Instruction will be included.

Steamboat Springs Balloon Festival (Over Night Trip) The Hot Air Balloon Rodeo and Art in the Park offer artistry and color both on canvases and in the air making them a staple of Steamboat Springs, Colorado in the summertime.

Get to the launch grounds early to see the balloons inflate, and if you’re lucky you may even be asked to help crew. The rodeo portion consists of fun contests like dipping into Bald Eagle Lake and since balloon pilots can be pretty competitive, you’re guaranteed a good show.

Once the balloons are in the air, sip on coffee and eat a yummy crepe from one of the vendors as you watch more balloons dot the Yampa Valley sky.

Afterwards, head over to Art in the Park and visit with one hundred-forty artist vendors, catch some live entertainment, and enjoy lots of different foods! We will be staying at the Rabbit Ears Hotel in downtown Steamboat, an easy walk to all the restaurants, activities and Art in the Park offerings. With naturalistic habitats like the new Predator Ridge as well as Tropical Discovery, Primate Panorama and the Dragons of Komodo exhibit, the Zoo is working to enhance the lives of some of the world’s most endangered species. Not only are some current exhibits unique to Denver Zoo, but unique in the wild as well - 188 zoo species are considered threatened or endangered, and three species are actually extinct in the wild. COUNTER CULTURE The Story of downtown Windsor from egg creams to elixirs

In this class, middle to high school students will learn the basic entry level skills for both flat water and white water kayaking. 3-Day Colorado River Canoe Trip Canoe the Colorado River from Grand Junction to Westwater, Utah with instructor Bernie Kendall, certified licensed instructor, from White Water Canoe Co. Paddle through Ruby & Horse Thief Canyons, view the beauty of towering Jurassic sandstone cliffs of ancient sand dunes, climb to the Arches of Rattlesnake Canyon, star gaze or relax and enjoy a cool dip in the river. Learn to surf a canoe on the waves of Shale Rapid.

No prior canoe experience is required, as certified guides will provide instruction. Challenge Island Lands on Shark Tooth Island

Challenge Island is a whimsical, wildly popular summer camp that promotes creative and critical thinking skills in children. Loosely based on a well-known reality TV show, Challenge Island has kids dividing into cooperative tribes and taking on a vast array of exciting challenges set on action-packed thematic “islands”. For all those kids who’ve got Windsor Spirit, please join Coach Kelly in supporting our community and learning about what teamwork really means. On this non-competitive team your cheerleader will learn all about cheer history, cheer basics, dance, and of course awesome cheers to motivate a crowd. In addition, the team will be invited to cheer in the community.

Since every cheerleader loves to be in uniform, the team will be asked to wear uniforms each week at practice and at any community event we participate in. Uniforms will include a skirt, top, briefs, and pom poms.

Recreation T-ball & Baseball Recreation baseball provides friendly instructional competition for ages 5 to 14 years. U6–U10 will practice and play games in Windsor. U12 will combine leagues with Thompson Rivers and will play games in Windsor and Johnstown.

U14 will participate in the Greeley Evans Youth League (GEYL) and will practice in Windsor and play all games in Greeley. For information on the GEYL visit its web site at www.geyl.org. U6 & U8 are coed leagues.

Rockies Skills Challenge Co-sponsored by the Colorado Rockies and the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, this challenge, open to boys and girls, is a fun competition that tests skills in base running, batting off a tee, and throwing for distance and accuracy. The top boy and girl in each division will advance to a sectional competition in July. (Copy of birth certificate will be needed from winners.) Sectional winners will advance to the State Championships at All Star Park in August.

The league follows 11-man NFHS rules with league specific additions or changes. Teams are scheduled for 6-8 games plus end of season playoff.

Sports – Youth Challenger British Soccer Camp Challenger has developed a unique camp program that offers players a much broader soccer skills experience.

Camp coaches are selected and trained in the UK. They are professional, outgoing, have a cool “British” accent and a genuine interest in helping each participant develop and provide them with a very memorable and positive experience.

Challenger’s NEW 1,000 Touches Curriculum has been created to address the key areas of the sport.

Participants will learn the basic skills of soccer; such as the ABC’s (agility, balance and coordination), The Moves, Freestyle Soccer, Dribbling, Passing/Receiving, Shooting, Heading and Tackling/Defending. The more time the players spend in contact with the ball the quicker they will master important core skills. The British Soccer Camp program also provides a unique cultural experience for the players, highlighted in the Camp World Cup. The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up soccer chants, wear the team colors of their country, bring flags and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.

Parent Meetings Parents Assoc. for Youth Sports & Sport Specific Info. The PAYS program helps parents and youth leagues work together to provide the best possible sports experience for children. If you have previously attended the PAYS portion of the Parent Meeting, you do not need to attend again.

Concussion training starts at 7pm. This training educates parents about the signs and symptoms of concussions while emphasizing the seriousness of head injuries. If you have attended the concussion training you are not required to attend again. The sport specific portion of the meeting starts at 7:30pm, which covers season schedules, rules and more.

All major forms of credit cards are accepted as well as cash, checks, money orders or cashier checks. **Payments by check: The Town of Windsor will charge a $15 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank.

Reduced Fees

Eligible participants in our Reduced Fee Program can receive a discount off the registration fee. Applications are available at the Community Recreation Center or online at www.windsorgov.com. Please see pages 20 & 42 for information.

Refund Policy:

After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances, stated in writing, warrant consideration. Refund request forms are located at the Community Recreation Center or visit www.windsorgov.com.

Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Division cancels a class or program. Please note: minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to the start of a program that only meets once.

The registration deadlines for each event are listed in this brochure under the event description. A “first come, first served” wait list will be maintained after the deadline date to fill any remaining event openings.

Waiting lists are a source of contact and do not guarantee you will receive a call back. We will contact you only if a space becomes available.

Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

Minimums/Maximums:

Class sizes are limited to assure class quality and safety. Minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled.

Team Selection:

The Parks, Recreation & Culture Department’s goal is to provide participants opportunities to form new friendships, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible.

Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer or by assessments, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first class recreational facilities, activities and parks.

In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the Town of Windsor to: 1. Call 911 for emergency personnel for first aid.

2. Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows.

Each registration must have a waiver signed by either a parent or legal guardian.
