Legacy Webster’s defines legacy as a “gift by will, something transmitted by or received from a predecessor.” This year, the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department has undertaken the development of a "Legacy Plan.” The concept is to take a typical departmental master plan that outlines a process for the development of amenities and provision of services and define a methodology that supports that into the future. This includes cost analysis, revenue generation, inventory, level of service standards and operational plans. It is an opportunity to look at a successful model and “gift” a sustainable program for a growing community for generations to come. While the process will be primarily driven by input from elected and appointed officials and staff, the public will have an opportunity to comment on draft recommendations. ACTIVE ADULTS Day Trips and Tours Day trips are scheduled each month to various locations. Almost all day trips take place between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday-Friday (with some exceptions).

There is no staff, leader, or escort supervision of individuals provided. Companions and caregivers may participate at customer’s expense.

Walking Levels for Trips and Tours The following Walking Levels will be assigned to each Active Adult trip or tour to help you decide which trips and tours are suitable for you. Each level is based upon research done by staff. The Windsor Community Recreation Center reserves the right to change levels if necessary when additional information becomes available.

Walking Levels: Easy: Minimal walking, primarily flat surfaces.

Moderate: To fully participate there may be leisurely walking over primarily

even surfaces and some uneven surfaces, standing may be

required and possibly a few stairs.

Difficult:

To fully participate there may be extended periods of walking over even and uneven surfaces and some incline. There may be steps and extended periods of standing. Participants with physical limitations should take this into account.

Colorado’s 10th Mountain Division

ART & HERITAGE

The 10th Mountain Division turned the tide of World War II by defeating Nazi troops in Italy and following them into Germany. Explore how these elite troops trained for combat, climbing and skiing in the mountains of Colorado. Their critical roles in the war lead the allies to victory and left a lasting legacy of heroic actions.

In addition to the Mountain Division, take a local look at the men and women of Windsor that served in World War II. The Colorado’s 10th Mountain Division is a traveling exhibition from the Aurora History Museum (AHM).

Fencing Basics This class focuses on the fundamental rules and skills of the exciting and safe sport of modern Olympic fencing.

Students learn fundamental skills such as basic footwork and bladework with the foil - a light thrusting weapon - as well as the basic rules of play and safety requirements of the sport. Instruction is with a coach, in groups and working with a partner. There is time for fencing bouts with others at the end of each class. Come prepared to exercise and have fun! Student Advisory Leadership Team S.A.L.T. is a self-sustaining group made up of local Middle School and High School students who want to make a difference in the community. They are credited with providing over a dozen safe activities a year for teens and the community. The goal is to provide positive alternative activities that students will want to participate in.

S.A.L.T. holds meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 6:00pm, where new events are planned and ideas are discussed to better the community.

Lil Dancers join our classes to prepare for our production of "The Li'l Nut!" Our 3-13 yr old version of the classic Nutcracker Suite! Performed at the Greeley Festival of Trees and other community venues!

A new class offered this fall is our Theatre Dance class for those theatre buffs who need some dance experience to further their career! We will focus on basic ballet, tap and jazz needed to excel in your theatre casting placements and work on your stage presentation and carriage.

Danni A1 Hip Hop Crew This is a competition team and children will learn a routine that will be competed at dance competitions throughout the season. The children grow strong as a dance team and each child is given great opportunities to advance their dance career. The competitions are throughout Colorado with the possibility of one or two out of states depending on how well children do at competitions. Parent Meetings

The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Reduced Fee Program is funded through generous donations from multiple sources including the Windsor Town Board and United Way of Weld County. Reduced fees are available for Town of Windsor residents meeting qualification guidelines including proof of income and household size taken from the most recent IRS tax form and proof of residency taken from a property tax certificate, Town of Windsor utility bill or rental agreement.

Parents Assoc. for Youth Sports & Sport Specific Info. The PAYS program helps parents and youth leagues work together to provide the best possible sports experience for children. If you have previously attended the PAYS portion of the Parent Meeting, you do not need to attend again. Concussion training starts at 6:45pm. This training educates parents about the signs and symptoms of concussions while emphasizing the seriousness of head injuries. If you have attended the concussion training you are not required to attend again. The sport specific portion of the meeting starts at 7:30pm which covers season schedules, rules and more.

Treasure Island Demonstration Garden

Located off 7th St. (south of Eastman Park Dr.) at Laku Lake Road.

Treasure Island Garden is a partnership between the Town of Windsor and the DiGGers, a group of committed volunteer master gardeners.

Master gardeners will be discussing the topics listed below and answering questions at Treasure Island Demonstration Garden. Classes and activities are designed to meet the needs of local gardeners. Call 686-2999 for additional information.

Classes will be held at the garden so be prepared for the weather. Bring your chair, water bottle, and sunscreen.

Group Garden Tours or Treasure Island Demonstration Garden Speakers: If your group or club would like a tour of Treasure Island Demonstration Garden, or to schedule a speaker for your group, please call (970) 686-2999 to schedule. Tours can have a specific focus such as Plant Select©, xeric© gardening, veggies, or just be a random walk-through to see what is growing and blooming. All speakers will be experienced master gardeners. Parking is available beside the road for cars or small group buses. Most of the garden can be viewed from paved surfaces.

Help Wanted: Volunteers pick produce for the Windsor Food Pantry on Tue and Thu mornings starting in July. If you would like to help, meet us at the vegetable garden at 7am. No experience needed. We train! If you would like to volunteer at the garden please call (970) 686-2999.

Brush Recycling Site The Town of Windsor Brush Recycling Site is operated by the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department. For more info visit www.windsorgov.com/ recycle.

Christmas trees may be dropped off for recycling at the Brush Recycling site. Brush permits are required, however there is no charge to drop off Christmas trees. Special extended hours are available for Christmas tree drop off.

n Person Walk-in registrations are taken during regular business hours at the Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 N. 11th St. Cash, checks, money orders, or credit cards are accepted.

Payments All major forms of credit cards are accepted as well as cash, checks, money orders or cashier checks. **Payments by check: The Town of Windsor will charge a $15 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank.

Checks should be made payable to Town of Windsor. ** Full payment must be made at the time of registration.

Reduced Fees: Eligible participants in our Reduced Fee Program can receive a discount off the registration fee. Applications are available at the Community Recreation Center or online at www.windsorgov.com. Please see page 36= for information.

Refund Policy: After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances, stated in writing, warrant consideration. Refund request forms are located at the Community Recreation Center or visit www.windsorgov.com.

Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Division cancels a class or program. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to the start of a program that only meets once.

Minimums/Maximums: Class sizes are limited to assure class quality and safety. Minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled.

Deadlines: Registration deadlines for each event are listed in this brochure under the event description. A “first come, first served” wait list will be maintained after the deadline date to fill any remaining event openings.

Waiting List Procedure: Waiting lists are a source of contact and do not guarantee you will receive a call back. We will contact you only if a space becomes available. Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

Team Selection: The Parks, Recreation & Culture Department’s goal is to provide participants opportunities to form new friendships, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible. Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer or by assessments, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Notice to Participants: Participants must recognize that all classes/activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first class recreational facilities, activities and parks. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy to: 1. Call 911 to reach emergency personell.

2. Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows.

Each registration must have a waiver signed by either a parent or legal guardian.

Reduced Fee Program

The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department has a reduced fee program that offers financial assistance to both children and adults who need support in order to participate in recreation activities. Please contact the Community Recreation Center to obtain an application or you can fill one out online at www.windsorgov.com.
