Welcome from Deputy Director Parks, Recreation & Culture

I hope this Activity Guide finds you in good health and high spirits as we transition from Fall to Winter in our beautiful community.

As the Deputy Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, I am excited to share with you the latest programs and events for the upcoming season. I would like to express my gratitude to our dedicated staff, volunteers, and community members for making everything possible.

A big round of applause goes to the department for achieving accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA)! This recognition from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is a testament to their commitment to excellence. Earning this accreditation is the ultimate proof that Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture team works to deliver the highest quality of service to our community every day.

Our team is committed to providing opportunities for everyone to get healthy, enjoy the great outdoors, and connect with nature. We have planned a variety of activities such as youth cooking classes, gardening classes, birding clubs, a magical forest event and so much more.

Additionally, we are working on a new historic park along with several park improvement projects to enhance your overall experience. These include the construction of the Historic Halfway Homestead landscape, playground replacement at Founders Park, and renovations at the Community Recreation Center to name a few. I encourage you to stay updated on our website and social media channels for the latest information on upcoming events, activities, and projects.

On the registration page, click on the Sign In/Register tab and select “create an account” near the bottom of the page.

Click create a new account. Follow the prompts and enter the required information. During the process, you’ll be prompted to list family members who will be participating in activities.

Listing each member will allow you to register them for a class and pay any required fees.

Once logged in you can start your search for activities using the tabs at the top of the page or clicking an image that matches the activity you are looking for or interested in.

Here, you can narrow down programs, classes, and activities based on your criteria by using the filters on the left: type of activity, by age or by activity number. An activity number is the digits located next to the activity name on the Activity Guide.

Once you’ve narrowed your search, a selection of program, classes or activities will appear.

Once you’ve made you selection, click add to cart, follow the prompts and select proceed to checkout once you’ve added all the activities you want to participate in.

MEMBERSHIPS Community Recreation Center The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department welcomes you to our 85,000-square-foot Windsor Community Recreation Center. The Windsor CRC features two gymnasiums, fitness rooms, an elevated walking track, and indoor aquatic facility, in addition to a variety of other rooms and amenities.

Indoor Aquatic Center Our indoor aquatic facility serves as the Windsor CRC's centerpiece, featuring three lap lanes, a zero-depth entry pool with play feature, a lazy river, water slide, and a 23-person hot tub! The full Aquatics section begins on page 25.

Fitness Facilities An auxiliary gym with an elevated walking and jogging track connects our 3,500-square-foot fitness space. Take advantage of our cutting-edge fitness rooms on the first and second floors, featuring Cybex cardiovascular and weight equipment. The full Fitness section begins on page 54.

Childcare Need a place for your child ages 12 months to 9 years old to go during your Community Recreation Center visit? We’ve got you covered. Drop in to utilize our childcare services Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 4:30 - 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - Noon.

Kids’ Nite Out

Daddy Daughter Date Night Don’t miss this sensational event! The evening features a country western dance, light refreshments, and activities for you and your child to enjoy. Easter Eggstravaganza The Easter Bunny is stopping by to celebrate the 16th Annual Easter Eggstravaganza! Search for eggs in the water during our egg splash in the indoor pool; take part in our traditional egg hunt in the gym; and enjoy open gym activities, games, and a chance to win door prizes with your child on this sweet and

Kid’s Nite Out Across America (KNO) is an independent youth activity program held weekly at the Windsor Community Recreation Center. KNO provides a fun, safe, active environment for every participant. A variety of games and activities are offered, such as swimming, dancing to a DJ, sports tournaments, arts and crafts, and more! Nationally background-checked, attentive, and energetic staff monitor all areas. KNO maintains a 1:25 staff-participant ratio, and a local police officer is on duty at each event to ensure the safety of all participants. Parents must bring their child into the facility upon arrival, and participants cannot leave until a parent or authorized guardian comes into the building for pick up.

Admission is $15 per person. Dinner vouchers are also available for purchase for $10. This includes pizza and a drink or sub sandwich, chips, and a drink.

MUSEUMS Windsor History Museum Opens May 25th

Unlock Windsor’s past at the Windsor History Museum! Explore what life was like in early Windsor at the 1882 Train Depot, caboose, schoolhouse, farmhouse, beet shack, and chapel.

Learn about Morse code, conduct a lesson in the schoolhouse, and experience what it was like to live in a two-room beet shack.

Guided Tours of Windsor History Museum Do you have a group that would be interested in touring the Windsor History Museum during the offseason? Tours of the museum are offered free of charge for groups of four or more!

Tours last 45 minutes to 1 hour and visit the different buildings at the museum. Tours are led by experienced docents and can be customized to your group. Tours can also be conducted virtually for groups of any size over Zoom or Google Meet. Museum Events Spring Break at the Windsor History Museum It’s spring break-bring your entire family for a free and fun morning at the Windsor History Museum! The museum buildings will be open with a fun family activity. Tour our red caboose, play historic games, write on a slate in our one-room schoolhouse, and visit other museum buildings to discover how people lived in the past. Registration is not required. Homeschool Day at the Museum Are you going to school at home? This spring, the museum is offering two FREE Homeschool Days at the Museum packed with family-friendly learning and fun. Visit the museum anytime between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for exciting activities connected to local and Colorado history! All activities are customized for PreK – 12th grade students, so bring the whole family. Each day supports and enriches any unit on social studies, technology, and science. No need to register in advance! Drop in between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The museum will close at 2:15 p.m.

April 8 – Explore the Eclipse: On April 8, Windsor will be in view of an exciting phenomenon: an eclipse! Through activities and projects, we will learn all about the science behind eclipses, then we can watch the solar eclipse together through glasses, projections, and other viewing devices. Art & Heritage Center Formerly Windsor’s Town Hall built in 1909, this historic building is now a hub for art, culture, and history in Windsor. The Art & Heritage Center hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year, both from the museum’s collection and from outside organizations.

The Art & Heritage Center is also the location of much of Windsor’s cultural programming.

Museum Exhibitions at the Art & Heritage Center 2024 Weld RE-4 Elementary Student Art Show March 1 – March 31 Support the arts! Come and enjoy amazing student artwork at the Art and Heritage Center. This exhibition showcases pieces by Kindergarten – 5th grade students from Skyview School of STEM, Tozer, Mountain View, Range View, and Grandview. The exhibition is curated by the art teachers and will be open to the public.

Come meet real scientists, enjoy delicious food trucks, watch Skyview students demonstrate their science projects, and get hands-on with experiments, real science tools, and more! The celebration from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. is FREE and open to all ages; no registration required!

The Windsor Pickleball Club (WPC) is a volunteer operated, not-for-profit group that reserves outdoor court time at Main Park from May through September. Sponsored by the Weld County Area Agency on Aging, the Friendly Fork Café lunch provides a well-balanced meal at a great price. Reservations are required by 9:00 a.m. one business day prior. Since October 2022, FDA created a new Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids category which allows consumers to purchase them online or through local electronic or supermarkets. However, the feature and functionalities of these devices are not always clear to consumers. Breckenridge Snow Sculptures Breckenridge’s International Snow Sculpture Championships is a world-renowned snow sculpting competition where teams from around the world descend on Breckenridge, Colorado to handcarve 25-ton blocks of snow into enormous, intricate works of art. Artists are only allowed to use hand tools, creativity, and inspiration to bring their ideas to life. No power tools allowed!

Teams sculpt countless hours across five days (totaling around 94 hours), resulting in a temporary outdoor art gallery in historic downtown Breckenridge! We’ll travel by motor coach for this trip, so grab a friend and get registered as we’ll need at least 35 people at minimum. Be sure to dress for winter mountain weather conditions as you’ll be mostly outdoors. Lunch plans are on your own at one of many restaurants in the downtown area.

Carving week is January 22 – 26, 2024, so the sculptures won’t be entirely done but you’ll get to see the artists at work as they race to meet the deadline.

The entertainment and dining complex features a public aquarium boasting more than a million gallons of underwater exhibits that highlight fascinating ecosystems around the world. The Downtown Aquarium houses over 500 species of animals, the interactive Stingray Reef touch tank, a small 4-D theatre experience and of course the on-site restaurant. AquaBox This is a full body, functional workout focused on boxing moves and training techniques. You will use a variety of equipment to challenge your strength, endurance, and mental fitness.

Successful completion of the course will result in certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid. Certifications last two years. Students MUST complete the online portion prior to class and show their instructor their online completion certification at the beginning of the course to continue.

Swim Lesson Guide Seahorses AGES 6 MONTHS - 3 YEARS Baby & Me Parents help introduce children to the water using songs while learning how to work with their child safely, basic body positions and holding techniques to promote water comfort.

Turtles AGES 3 - 6 YEARS Polliwog This level is for swimmers who are new to the water, will not put their face in the water, and can hold on to the side of the pool independently.

Tadpole This level is for swimmers who will put their face in the water, can perform supported front and back float without apprehension and will explore the water freely without fear.

Froggie This level is for swimmers who can front float with their face in the water without support, can back float for 5 seconds without support and can submerge and pick up objects in shallow water.

Sharks AGES 6 - 12 YEARS Level 1 This level is for swimmers who can roll from front to back without support, streamline front glide five feet without support and jump into shallow water without support.

Level 2 This level is for swimmers who can perform a front and back float, streamline on their front and back, and are able to do breaststroke legs.

Level 3 This level is for swimmers who can perform a front and back float independently, can jump into deep/shallow water and move to the side comfortably and can swim 10 yards elementary back stroke.

Level 4 This level is for swimmers who can swim 50 yards without stopping, flutter kick without a kickboard for 25 yards and are comfortable in deep water.

Level 5 This level is for swimmers who can swim 100 yards freestyle, can tread water continuously for at least 1 minute, and have been introduced to breaststroke and backstroke.

Level 6 This level is for swimmers who can swim a minimum of 2 laps without stopping and are efficient in all competition strokes including freestyle, backstroke, and introduction to the butterfly stroke.

CLASSES Pottery Wheel Throwing: Beginner and Intermediate

Pottery Hand-Building: Beginner and Intermediate Sink your hands into the dirt and have fun learning how to make pottery. Guided by a local professional pottery artist, you will learn hand-building techniques, including pinch, coil, slab building and glazing. Students of different levels will be given customized instructions during this class. The class runs for 4 weeks, and each 2-hour class is structured for you to learn a technique that will be paired with a project, which means you are creating pieces on day one. Some of the projects we work on include planters, bowls, coffee/tea mugs and bird houses. For students with some experience, we invite you to bring your ideas and we will do our best to help you create them into reality. Class includes all materials, tools, glazes, and kiln firings.

This wheel throwing class is for students who have never used the potter’s wheel as well as students who are still developing their throwing skills. Guided by a local professional pottery artist, students will practice making basic cylinder shapes such as mugs and bowls. Students will receive customized instruction at whatever level they are at. Participants will learn how to prep clay for wheel throwing as well as how to center, open, pull and push the clay on the wheel. Each class is structured for you to learn a technique with the end goal being a bowl and mug. Classes take place once a week for 2-hour sessions for 4 weeks. The class includes use of one of our pottery wheels, clay, tools, glaze as well as bisque and glaze firing of completed pieces.

Friday Evening Art Series with Mrs. Hay: Clay 3D (1/19, 1/26, 2/9)

Art-Youth Gain confidence in visual art during this popular after school art program that gives kids an opportunity to be creative, explore new materials, and make new friends! Each month of this weekly art program explores a new theme. Drop off is anytime between 3:20 – 3:40 p.m., and pick up is between 5:00 – 5:15 p.m.

Come spend the evening making art with Mrs. Hay in Skyview’s Art Room. This exciting new class is 3 classes long so we can have time to go through the entire clay-making process (Make, Glaze, Fire in Kiln). In this 3-night class, we will create clay and other 3D artwork using kiln dried clay and glaze, string, balloons, wire, paper, and more. Students will come home with 3-5 3D projects in this 3-night class. Dress to get messy!

Eco-Reporters Do you go to school at home? Join our homeschool hiking club, the Eco-Reporters! Once a month, we will hike the trails at Kodak Watchable Wildlife Area and journal our findings as we run tests and make observations about how different the same place can look depending on what time of the year it is that you visit it. We will view tracks, track views, and record our findings as we learn how to be nature journalists. Learn to Make Soap Soap is one of those things that we use every day. It comes in a variety of forms; there are basic bar soaps, liquid soaps, dish soap and laundry soap to name a few. Many of these items sold at your local store are, however, not true soap, but a detergent, beauty bar or cleanser. This class series will cover how to formulate, customize, and make a basic, true bar soap recipe in three different methods: hot and cold process as well as liquid soap. It will also cover designing the appearance, coloring, and scenting of your soap. By the end of the class series, you will have a basic understanding of formulating soap, the process of soap making, a basic soap recipe you can use and build on as well as some bar soaps to use and share.

This class focuses on the fundamental rules and skills of modern Olympic fencing. Students learn skills such as basic footwork and bladework with the foil and epee, as well as the basic rules of play and safety requirements of the sport. Coach-led instruction is in groups as well as working with a partner. There is time for fencing bouts with each other in each class. Please wear clothing you can exercise comfortably in, including athletic shoes and long, loose pants. Cheer & Tumbling Performance Cheerleading Teams We are excited to offer continued sessions of cheer with CHEER SPIRIT COLORADO! Our program provides sessions filled with great skill building opportunities and fun performances.

Cheer, dance, stunts, and jumps will be taught in a positive and motivating environment where kids are proven to excel. Each athlete will have the opportunity to order a uniform at the start of the session. This cost will be in addition to the class. The Dance Department is a local Dance School in Windsor Colorado offering classes 1.5-18 years of age in a variety of styles.

The Co-Directors of The Dance Department, Miranda Lung and Nicole Kutella, come with more than 30 years of teaching experience and are ready to show families in our community how much fun they can have through dance and movement. Whether your child is interested in trying out dance for the first time, or are looking to perfect their technique, they have a place in the TDD family.

SuperTots

Start Smart Basketball teaches children the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work one-on -one with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents’ skills in dribbling, ball handling, passing, catching, shooting, and running/agility without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parent Meeting is on Thursday, February 29th. Parent participation is required for all sessions.

Since 2002, SuperTots has engaged kids in physical activity in a noncompetitive environment that is safe and fun above all else. SuperTots knows kids are hardwired to learn through play. For that reason, we’ve designed an engaging and skill-building curriculum in which “tots” learn through a series of fun games. They will acquire athletic skills and fitness but also develop an interest and love of sports.

Start Smart Baseball

The Softball Clinic series is presented by Colorado WILD Softball, including Head Coach Aryn Rangel Henneke and other Wild Coaches. These clinics are designed to help young softball players have fun playing while learning the fundamentals of softball. T-ball – 10U will practice and play games in Windsor. 12U will practice in Windsor and will combine leagues with Thompson Rivers and Berthoud and will play games in Windsor, Berthoud, and Johnstown. 13U and 15U will participate in the Greeley Evans Youth League (GEYL), will practice in Windsor and play games in Windsor & Greeley. For information on the GEYL visit their website at www.geyl.org. 6U and 8U are coed leagues. Teams will play 8 league games. 10U and 12U will conclude the season with an end-of-season recreation tournament held on the week of July 22nd. 13U and 15U will play approximately 10 games with a league tournament at the end of July.

This mandatory meeting covers the upcoming season including Team Sideline training, rules, practices, team rosters, program philosophy, scheduling, facilities and more.

Uniforms are sold at the Windsor Community Recreation Center.

Recreational uniforms may be exchanged or returned within 10 business days of purchase date if it has not been worn or washed and the tags are still attached.

Officiation & Scorekeeping

At the Parent Meeting, we will conduct Team Sideline training, our online schedule, and team roster system. We will also discuss general sporting parental sporting etiquette and expectations. The sport-specific portion of the meeting covers season schedules, rules, and more. All parents should plan to attend the meeting.

Interested in officiation and/or scorekeeping youth and adult sports? Northern Colorado Sports Officials (NCSO) is assigning Windsor youth and adult games for the 2023/2024 seasons!

Need a little help? Reduced Fee & Scholarship Programs The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Reduced Fee & Severance Youth Scholarship Programs are funded through generous donations from multiple sources including the Windsor Town Board and United Way of Weld County.

Reduced fees are available for Town of Windsor residents and scholarships are available for Severance Youth residents both meeting qualification guidelines including proof of income and household size taken from the most recent IRS tax form and proof of residency taken from a property tax certification, utility bill or rental agreement. Unique Programs for Windsor Area Residents with Disabilities Please call (970) 674-3500 for information on any UPWARD recreation program. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be provided reasonable accommodations for all programs. Staff are responsible for participants during program hours only.

Participants in wheelchairs or who require one to one attention will need to provide their own caregiver.

Active Recreation Bowling Join us as we venture to Highland Park Lanes in Greeley for noncompetitive, but hilariously fun bowling that works on basic skills, good sportsmanship, social interaction, and fun. All skill levels are welcome; adaptable to all. The price includes two games, shoe rental, and transportation from the CRC to the bowling alley and back.
