MIA Galleries is pleased to present an exhibition celebrating four decades of film and video preservation by Miami Dade College’s Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives (Wolfson Archives).

The Wolfson Archives has served as a vital repository of South Florida’s visual history through moving images. The collection, spanning from the 1920s to the present, includes home movies, travelogues, promotional films, and news footage that document the growth and ever-changing landscape of South Florida.

Wolfson Archives: Celebrating 40 Years of Collecting, Preserving, and Sharing South Florida’s Visual History showcases images representing the film and video collections found in the Wolfson Archives. It follows a timeline from the early 1920s to the 2000s, featuring home movies filmed by families enjoying their vacations in Miami and Miami Beach at various tourist attractions - some of which no longer exist - and everyday events in South Florida. The mural and video component also highlight local influential figures, historical personalities, and key events that have shaped Miami-Dade County and the state over the last century.

The Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives is a one-of-a-kind collection of film and video related to Florida, with a particular emphasis on television news and home movies from the twentieth century. Based at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, the Wolfson Archives houses over 35,000 hours of video tape and 23 million feet of film documenting Florida history. www.wolfsonarchives.org

Wolfson Archives: Celebrating 40 Years of Collecting, Preserving, and Sharing South Florida’s Visual History is supported by Miami Dade College; the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation; and with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
