Regency Glass accelerates automation strategy with next phase of manufacturing equipment investment
Regency Glass has announced the next phase of its long-term manufacturing strategy, committing to a significant investment in automation technology at its purpose-built headquarters at Omega Business Park, Warrington.

Having now fully transitioned operations into its 420,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, the company is continuing its investment programme with an extensive order of advanced machinery from longstanding partners Glaston and HEGLA. Scheduled for installation before Christmas 2026, the latest investment will further enhance production efficiency, increase automation across key manufacturing processes and strengthen capacity to support continued customer demand.
The investment includes two additional Glaston ULTRA TPS® insulating glass lines, two Glaston MULTIʼARRISSER, one HEGLA Dynamic SortJet, two HEGLA SortJet line loaders, one HEGLA SortJet furnace unloader, three additional HEGLA ProLam LSR cutting tables and two HEGLA Autofeeders.

While the new equipment will expand manufacturing capability, Regency says the investment is driven by a wider ambition to create one of the UK's most advanced and efficient insulating glass production facilities, where automation supports exceptional quality, consistency and customer service.

The company's commitment to continuous improvement is already delivering measurable results. During June 2026, Regency Glass recorded a reject rate of just 0.29%, a figure the business aims to build upon through further automation, reducing manual handling and increasing process consistency throughout production.
Wayne Fitzmartin,
Director & Chief Operations Officer at Regency Glass,
said:
"Our investment strategy has never been about having the biggest factory or the most machinery. It's about creating a manufacturing environment that consistently delivers the quality, capacity and service our customers expect. Every investment we make has that goal in mind.
"Moving to Omega Business Park gave us the opportunity to rethink how we manufacture IGUʼs from the ground up. This latest investment is another important step in that journey, enabling us to automate more processes, improve operational efficiency and ensure we're well positioned to support our customers as demand continues to grow."

The investment also reinforces Regency's longstanding relationships with machinery manufacturers Glaston and HEGLA, whose technologies have played a significant role in the company's manufacturing transformation.

Wayne continued:
"One of the reasons we continue to work with HEGLA and Glaston is because they share our ambition to keep improving. They understand our business, they understand our standards and they've been an important part of the journey that has brought us to where we are today.
"As we continue to invest in our people, our technology and our manufacturing capability, having partners who share our long-term vision is incredibly important. Together, we're building a facility that's designed not only for today's market, but for the future of insulating glass manufacturing."
The latest machinery is on track to be fully installed by Christmas 2026, further strengthening Regency Glass' manufacturing capabilities as the company continues to invest in innovation, automation and sustainable long-term growth.

EDITOR’S COMMENT
PUTTING RESIDENTS IN A SWEAT

Britain’s increasingly unpredictable temperatures have brought renewed attention to conditions inside the country’s homes. For now, the focus is on overheating as outdoor temperatures climb towards the high 30s. In four months, however, the debate will almost certainly swing back to cold homes, inadequate insulation and buildings failing to retain heat. The challenge is no longer simply how to keep homes warm in winter, but how to create buildings that remain comfortable and healthy throughout the year.
Recent heatwaves have broken records, exceeding previous highs associated with 1976. References to that summer are often used to dismiss concerns about climate change on the grounds that Britain has experienced extreme heat before. Yet that argument ignores the science and data. Climate experts are clear that heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense.
Dr Mark McCarthy, manager of climate attribution at the Met Office, said 2026 had been exceptional because early heatwaves in May and June broke records standing since May 1944 and June 1976. “For the time of year these events were extreme, even in our warmer climate,” he said. “However, it is clear that human-caused climate change is leading to more frequent and more intense summer heatwaves.” McCarthy pointed to effects on human health and mortality, agriculture, transport infrastructure and biodiversity.
Dr Malcolm Mistry of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine described extreme heat as a rapidly developing health risk after England and Wales experienced two record-breaking heatwaves in the first half of summer.
Professor Lea Berrang Ford, head of the UK Health Security Agency’s Centre for Climate and Health Security, has warned that periods of heat are likely to become more intense, longer and more frequent. Adapting Britain’s homes, workplaces and infrastructure must therefore outpace the risks, particularly for older people, babies and children.
This is where building design, regulation and fenestration collide. There is a brief buried within the Building Regulations that borders on the impossible. A window must keep a home warm enough in January to satisfy Part L, cool enough in July to satisfy Part O, ventilated under Part F, safe under Part K, secure under Part Q, and still operate as a means of escape under Part B. For specifiers attempting to sign off an opening in a single-aspect London flat, the conflict is obvious. Something usually has to give.

The need to retrofit a swathe of London’s flagship ecohomes after residents suffered severe overheating should embarrass everyone involved in approving their design.
Built after the 2012 Olympics, when regulation and design thinking were heavily focused on insulation and energy efficiency, these homes were engineered to retain heat. That is precisely the wrong instinct for a city facing hotter summers.
Residents have reported indoor temperatures comparable with tropical conditions, sleepless nights and, in one case, a family leaving for a hotel to protect a newborn. They reveal the consequences of designing homes around winter performance while failing to plan for summer.
The immediate response is often to call for air conditioning. Air conditioning consumes energy, is expensive to retrofit into buildings not designed for it and transfers pressure to the electricity grid. The more fundamental failure is that these homes were not designed around passive ventilation. Opening windows and doors, cross-ventilation, external shading and night-time purging are unglamorous, low-cost and effective measures that should have been incorporated from the outset.
Instead, residents can find that layouts, locations or safety concerns make opening a window impractical. That is not a failure of ventilation technology. It is a failure of planning and design. The retrofit work may be welcome, but it represents an expensive lesson. Before mechanical cooling becomes the default response, planners and developers should ask why the cheapest and greenest option, a properly designed window, was not provided in the first place.
One thing is clear. Fenestration has a major role to play in keeping homes cool during summer and warm during winter. The focus on passive ventilation is good news for the window and door industry, but products must be in good working order and provide safe opening, particularly at height.
Windows and doors also remain central to winter performance. Heat loss through ageing products can be significant, while modern high-performance fenestration can offer an effective upgrade.
The challenge is to produce windows that satisfy the growing and sometimes competing demands of the Building Regulations. The opportunity is that the solution gives homeowners another compelling reason to replace existing windows and doors with products that improve energy efficiency, solar control and security.

Saint-Gobain Glass UK manufactures lower-carbon flat glass as standard
Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland has taken a significant step forward in lower-carbon flat glass production.
At its Eggborough plant, near Goole, Planiclear® now achieves 7.22 kgCO₂e/m² for 4 mm glass.
Standard production, not a limited campaign - The new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) reflects SaintGobain Glass UK & Ireland’s regular day-to-day production. It is not based on a trial or short-term campaign. Planiclear® is manufactured and delivered this way as standard, every day.
The new declaration shows a reduction of more than 34% compared with the previous EPD. This strengthens Planiclear® as a practical choice for lowering embodied carbon, while maintaining the same quality, availability, and performance.
Driven by a clear decarbonisation roadmap - This progress is driven by SaintGobain Glass UK’s decarbonisation roadmap and its Glass Forever circular economy approach to flat glass recycling. Together,

they focus on three key areas: increasing circularity, reducing reliance on virgin raw materials, and improving renewable energy use and process efficiency.

Producing around 13 miles of flat glass daily, the Eggborough site is embedding lower-carbon manufacturing at scale. By reducing the footprint of its core product, Saint-Gobain Glass is making lower carbon specification simpler for the construction and retrofit markets.
The EPD is third-party verified and positions
Planiclear® among the lowest embodied carbon standard float glass products manufactured in the UK. It provides robust data for planning, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, and procurement decisions, helping customers move with confidence and avoid the risk of greenwashing.
Critically, this applies to standard Planiclear®, supporting lower embodied carbon at sealed unit level with no added cost and no change to product performance. New EPDs available now and more to follow - New EPDs are now available for all Planiclear® thicknesses and Sapphire Blue. UK coated and laminated products will also benefit from this lower embodied carbon substrate, with supporting EPDs expected to be validated in the second half of 2026.

Leads 2 Trade platform unlocks hidden sales potential for installers
Leads 2 Trade, the UK’s leading pro‑ vider of double qualified sales leads to installers, has introduced new in house AI driven process im‑ provements to identify more genuine sales opportunities and help members secure more appointments from existing enquiry volumes. The technology is being used primarily to help re engage with home owners who may still be looking for quotes after initial contact attempts via the contact centre were unsuccessful. The new systems are designed to support the company’s expe rienced contact centre team, helping them focus on consumers who are most likely to convert.
Andy Royle, Co Founder and Managing Director of Leads 2 Trade, which celebrates 20 years this year, said: “The adoption of AI is helping us take some of the heavy lifting out of the qualification process, but it is by no means replacing the human element. We still speak to every consumer individually

because that’s a key part of what makes our leads so valuable to installers, particularly as we are booking appointments and surveys in for over 75% of our members.
“What AI allows us to do is work in conjunction with our lead management systems that work off algorithm’s that determine the maximum number of calls by a call centre operative before the systems decide that their resource time is better spent on calling fresher enquiries.
“Consumers are guided through a more intelligent enquiry process that adapts according to their responses, helping us
identify genuine intent before our team even picks up the phone.”
The new approach reflects changing consumer preferences, particularly among homeowners who are more comfortable initially engaging online before requesting to speak to a member of the team directly.
As part of the process, consumers can choose to request a call back at their convenience to agree and arrange a time to book the appointment or survey with our approved Trusted Local Suppliers in their area.
Andy added: “Using traditional methods, we were effectively qualifying and appointing around 25 to 35 per cent of raw enquiries which still left a large amount of unutilised data. AI is helping us re engage with those homeowners days later to ask if they are still looking for quotes which is creating more opportunities for our members without compromising lead quality.”

Industry backs Women in Fenestration Network following successful launch
The Women in Fenestration Network (WFN) has launched with overwhelming support from across the fenestration industry following its inaugural Professional Development Day, held in Bristol on 25 June.
More than 75 women from every corner of the country, representing every part of the fenestration supply chain, came together for a day of learning, networking and honest conversations, hearing from an inspiring line-up of speakers, including keynote speaker and former England Rugby Captain, Catherine Spencer.
While the event marked the official launch of WFN, it also confirmed something much bigger. Women across the industry are looking for opportunities to connect, develop professionally and support one another throughout their careers.
Ahead of the event WFN carried out its first Women in Fenestration Industry Survey to better understand the experiences, challenges and opportunities facing women working across the sector. The findings helped shape the programme for the day and highlighted confidence, imposter syndrome, mentoring and career development as some of the key areas women wanted WFN to focus on.
Those themes became some of the most powerful conversations throughout the event, with delegates continuing discussions long after the final session had finished.
Sarah Ball, Founder of the Women in Fenestration Network, said: “When I first shared the idea for WFN, I hoped it would resonate. I never imagined quite how many people would share the same passion for creating something that genuinely supports women across our industry. Seeing that vision become a reality has been incredibly special.”
“None of this would have happened without the support of our fantastic sponsors: Access Marketing, Aluminium Fire Systems, DoBetter Businesses, Emplas, FIT Show, Glass & Glazing Federation, Glass News and Fire Door Journal, Rehau, The

Residence Collection and Yale, speakers and everyone who believed in what we’re trying to achieve.”
“What made the day so special wasn’t just the quality of the speakers. It was seeing women openly sharing their experiences, making new connections and leaving with greater confidence. It reinforced exactly why WFN was created.”
“This was never about delivering one successful event. It’s about creating a community that supports women throughout their careers through professional development, mentoring, networking and shared experiences, while helping to build a stronger industry together.”
Sioned Yates, who is working in partnership with Sarah Ball to develop the long-term vision and growth of the Women in Fenestration Network, added:
“One of the biggest highlights for me was seeing the conversations continue throughout the day. Despite falling on one of the hottest days of the year, people weren’t rushing home. They were introducing each other, discussing future collaborations, talking about mentoring and already planning how they could stay involved.”
“We’ve also been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from across the wider industry. Businesses have already signed up as Founding Corporate Members, individuals are joining as Founding Members and we’ve received so many messages asking how they can get involved.”
“What excites me most is where WFN goes next. The Professional Development Day was just the beginning. Together, we’re building a community that will continue to support women through mentoring, networking, professional development and shared experiences, while working with our partners to help build a stronger fenestration industry for the future”
The event also saw the official launch of the WFN Mentoring Programme, led by former Epwin Window Systems Managing
Director Clare Bailey. With decades of industry experience and a passion for developing future talent, Clare will lead the mentoring programme as it supports women throughout their careers. The day also marked the launch of Founding Membership for both individuals and businesses.
The response since the event has been equally encouraging, with businesses already signing up as Founding Corporate Members, individuals becoming Founding Members and growing interest in the WFN Mentoring Programme.
Looking ahead, WFN has already confirmed an exciting programme of activity for the remainder of 2026, including the launch of the WFN Podcast, a Building Our Skills training day, a Lunch & Learn networking event in London focusing on confidence and imposter syndrome, further networking events across the UK and the continued rollout of the mentoring programme. Founding Membership is now open for both individuals and organisations, giving members the opportunity to become part of a growing professional community focused on connection, collaboration and career development.
Sarah Ball added: “This is only the beginning. Our ambition is to create a community where women can develop their careers, businesses can invest in their people and, together, we can help build a stronger fenestration industry for the future.”
The Professional Development Day may have been the beginning, but it is only the first chapter. With a growing membership, an expanding programme of events and a shared commitment to supporting women across the industry, WFN is building a community designed to inspire careers, create opportunities and help build a stronger fenestration industry together.

Nationwide marks 40 years with milestone birthday celebration
Four hundred guests came together on Friday 5th June to celebrate 40 years of Nationwide Windows and Doors at The Vox at the NEC. The evening was an opportunity to bring together all of the people who have supported Nationwide’s forty year journey, including key partners, long-standing suppliers and industry friends, for a night to really enjoy and remember.
Described by many as a truly unforgettable occasion, the celebrations began in style with a champagne reception before guests were welcomed into an evening of exceptional entertainment. A mesmerising performance by electric string quartet Siren, accompanied by an impressive light show and pyrotechnics display, a welcome film capturing guests’ arrival and a montage of memories celebrating the company’s 40-year journey, created a phenomenal opening to the event.
Hosted by Jason Manford, the evening featured a surprise appearance from George Whalley, son of managing director John Whalley, who travelled from Australia especially to mark the milestone occasion. John and operations director Daryl Cashmore also took to the stage to reflect on the company’s 40-year journey and thank

the employees, customers, suppliers, friends and family who have been part of that journey over the past four decades, receiving a standing ovation from guests.
Later in the evening, Jason Manford returned to the stage with a comedy set before leading renditions of ‘Sweet Caroline’ and ‘Delilah’, which had guests on their feet singing along.
A spectacular fireworks display over the lake provided one of the evening’s most memorable highlights, before ten-piece party band ‘The In Thing’ took to the stage, keeping the dance floor full until the very end, providing a fitting finale to the evening.
Nationwide was established on 5th June 1986, 40 years to the day of the celebration, and has gone from strength to strength over four decades. Today, the company operates from a 150,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility on its seven acre site in Rugby, where they fabricate more than 2,500 windows and doors for installation across the UK, every
week.
“It was an absolute pleasure to bring together the people who have supported our journey,” says John Whalley, managing director at Nationwide. “We wanted to give our guests a night to remember and I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all of our event partners who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. The feedback I have received confirms that we delivered an evening worthy of the team, suppliers and industry friends who make Nationwide what it is today.”
The celebration served as a powerful thank you to those who have helped the company demonstrate such strong resilience and innovation since 1986. Looking ahead, the company is poised for a bright future, ready to build on its legacy and continue leading the industry with the same commitment to quality and innovation that has defined its first forty years.
Sustainability certification renewed
Epwin Window Systems has renewed its VinylPlus Product Label certificate, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. The certification helps customers and specifiers identify PVC-U products that meet rigorous standards for responsible production, transparency and continuous improvement and applies across all the company’s PVC-U system brands: Profile 22, Spectus and PatioMaster. David Watts, Group SHEQ Development Manager, said: “We are delighted to have renewed our VinylPlus Product Label certification. It provides independent recognition of our sustainability credentials and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to responsible manufacturing. Sustainability is increasingly important throughout the supply chain, making certification like this a
valuable differentiator for our customers.”

The certificate was presented to David at the VinylPlus Sustainability Forum 2026. Epwin Window Systems was among the first companies to achieve the certification in 2018 and has maintained it ever since, underlining its long-term commitment to sustainable business practices.
Sustainability is embedded throughout the company’s operations adopting a cradleto-cradle approach, A zero-to-landfill policy ensures waste is segregated and recycled wherever possible, while waste PVC-U is repurposed into recycled composite materials for use in thermal inserts for
outerframes, sashes, transoms and mullions.
The company also adopts a circular approach to product lifecycle management. At end-oflife, PVC-U products are recycled through group company Poly-Pure, with reclaimed material reprocessed into new building products manufactured across the Epwin Group. David concluded: “Our sustainability journey is well advanced, but we remain focused on continuous improvement. Sustainability sits at the heart of our decision-making because, as a responsible business, we have a duty to minimise our environmental impact and help build a greener tomorrow.”

Universal Trade Frames expands with in-house flush tilt turn manufacturing
Universal Trade Frames has strengthened its commercial capability for 2026 with the introduction of in-house flush tilt and turn manufacturing, expanding its offer to meet growing demands.
For Sales Director Richard Hammond, the move isn’t about chasing trends, but about aligning a proven fabrication model with the realities of today’s specification landscape.
“Flush tilt and turn isn’t a new idea in itself,” he says. “What’s changed is the level at which it’s being specified and the type of projects it’s now being used on.
“We’re seeing it come through consistently on apartment blocks and larger developments, where you need the functionality of tilt and turn but the aesthetic expectations are much higher than they used to be.”
Tilt and turn systems have long been the default for high-rise and multioccupancy buildings, offering inherent safety, controlled ventilation and ease of maintenance. What flush tilt and turn adds is a more refined, contemporary finish that aligns with current architectural preferences.
“It’s about bringing two established ideas together properly,” Richard explains.
“Tilt and turn gives you the performance and practicality you need for those environments. The flush aesthetic brings it in line with the way buildings are now being designed.
“When you combine the two, you end up with a product that feels current, but still does exactly what it needs to do.”
There are also clear design advantages. The system allows for larger sash sizes than a typical flush casement, supporting the move towards increased glazing in modern construction.
“You’re able to achieve bigger openings and more glass, which is something architects are pushing for,” says Richard. “That’s where tilt and turn really comes into its own, because it handles those larger sizes comfortably.”
With Secured by Design and PAS24 forming part of the overall offer, Universal is able to support projects that demand higher levels of compliance, while maintaining a consistent manufacturing approach.

NorDan latest informative CPD shines a spotlight on sustainability
As a company that takes pride in enhancing energy efficiency and driving innovation across the fenestration sector, NorDan presented its latest insightful and thought-provoking CPD on sustainability and the significant advantages of specifying aluminium-clad timber at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week.
With NorDan’s stunning London showroom welcoming hundreds of leading decision-makers, architects, developers and innovators during the three-day event, the fenestration experts took the opportunity to shine a crucial spotlight on the pivotal role the windows and doors sector has to play in decarbonising the built environment.
Presented by Tom O’Sullivan, Technical Specification Advisor at NorDan, the informative CPD provided the myriad of guests with a background of NorDan’s 100-year history, evidence of its sourcing of timber from sustainably managed European forests, critical information on its specialist vacuum impregnation process, and an example of how its aluminiumclad timber frames had been utilised on a 1,700-bedroom Passivhaus student accommodation project.
With embodied carbon increasingly becoming a vital focus for developers, architects and anyone overseeing a construction project in the UK, the CPD detailed the critical need for the implementation of specific project Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) – as opposed to product-specific alternatives. Tom highlighted how projectspecific EPDs tailor environmental impact data to specific project parameters, removing the use of conservative estimates found in standard EPDs and enabling

precise, trusted calculations.
Emphasising the importance of increasing awareness of the fenestration sector’s crucial role in reducing carbon emission in the built environment, Tom revealed the CPD presentation had generated some encouraging feedback. He said: “It was an honour to present NorDan’s latest CPD and it was good to shine a spotlight on how the organisation is driving innovation in the construction industry.
“There were plenty of architects and other key decision-makers asking questions about how NorDan’s aluminium-clad timber windows and doors can be effectively utilised in both new build and retrofitting projects across the UK; especially with sustainability and energy efficiency targets in mind.
“We all have a major role to play in decarbonising the UK’s built environment
and it was encouraging to share plenty of insight and discuss how NorDan has not only shaped the past but is leading the way forward, too.”
Celebrating its centenary year, NorDan is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of timber and aluminium-clad timber windows, doors and smart accessories. Over the years, it has developed and enhanced its reputation for quality, aesthetics and performance, designing cutting-edge solutions with an ideal balance of sustainability, longevity and modern architecture demands in mind.
With sustainability equally as important as building safety and quality, the informative CPD provides critical information that drives decision-making, ultimately leading to a more energy efficient and greener built environment. Homeowner confidence has never played a bigger role in installer sales
Shepley Windows says rising customer expectations are making confidence and presentation a critical part of the installer sales process, as more people research companies and compare products online before committing to projects.
The fabricator says installers are increasingly having to build trust earlier in the customer journey, particularly as buyers arrive more informed and with higher expectations around professionalism, branding and product presentation.
For Shepley, that shift has reinforced the importance of Visage within its wider installer support offer.
“Homeowners are far more informed than they were a few years ago. They are researching products, styles and companies long before an installer arrives at the

property, and that naturally changes the sales process,” says Managing Director, Ian Griffiths.
“Installers are no longer just selling windows and doors. They are also building
confidence and trust from the very first conversation, and that has become a much bigger part of winning work.”
Ian says this is one of the reasons Visage continues to play an important role in helping installers present products as lifestyle choices and create stronger customer reassurance, alongside the manufacturing quality and reliability Shepley is known for across the trade.
“It gives installers a stronger consumerfacing platform that homeowners believe in and reinforces the quality behind the products themselves,” he continues.
“The manufacturing expertise, service and reliability all come from Shepley, but Visage helps present that in a way customers can relate to, recognise, and really get on board with.”

Atlas Aluminium’s transformation earns two NFA shortlist nominations
Just eighteen months after its relaunch as an independent business, Atlas Aluminium has been named as a finalist in two categories of the National Fenestration Awards 2026 – ‘Aluminium Fabricator of the Year’ and ‘Bi-Folding Door Manufacturer of the Year’ – true recognition of the investments it has made to deliver unrivalled support to its trade partners.
Atlas Aluminium’s management-backed acquisition in December 2024 marked a new chapter for the business. Since then, Atlas Aluminium, a leading supplier of aluminium doors, window and glazed roof systems, has made significant investments in its capabilities and improvements to its operations.
One of the core strengths of Atlas Aluminium is its people. Its skilled team of over 200 has a wealth of experience in aluminium glazing systems, with many team members having built long careers within aluminium fabrication. Around 28 percent of employees have been with Atlas Aluminium for more than ten years, and the longest-serving team member has 35 years’ experience. This experience supports

customers who need technical guidance and a supplier that understands the demands of aluminium fabrication.
To deliver the reliable service that so many trade customers rely on, Atlas Aluminium has made investments in its production and distribution capabilities. With team members within production trained across different product areas, Atlas can quickly respond to customer requirements while maintaining standards. All this means better technical support and shorter lead times across the range, with nationwide delivery and real-time tracking also offering partners added piece of mind that their order will be delivered on-time, in-full.
Jamie Newall, CEO at Atlas Aluminium said: “The last eighteen months is proof it is possible to retain the best of the past while
building a new, stronger identity. Being shortlisted in two National Fenestration Awards categories is recognition of our razor-sharp focus on our customers. Since relaunching as an independent business, we have listened to our customers and made improvements that are having a positive impact on their business. It is encouraging to see that recognised by the industry.”
The business is now asking for backing from customers and trade partners in the form of votes in these categories, the winners of which are decided completely by those in the industry. Every vote in the National Fenestration Awards can make a difference and voting closes Friday 18th September at 5pm. Derw Glass marks 35 years with Edgetech automation investment
Leading IGU manufacturer and glass processor Derw Glass is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a major milestone of another kind, one year of automated insulated glass production powered by Edgetech’s Super Spacer®.
Founded in 1991 in West Wales as a oneman operation by Julian Palmer, Derw Glass has grown in the last three decades.
Today, under the stewardship of Julian’s wife Noella Palmer and their daughter, director Angharad Palmer, the business continues to evolve, most recently through its transition from rigid spacer bars to Edgetech’s flexible Super Spacer® as part of a new automated IGU line. The results, one year on, have been transformative. “We invested in the new line to improve quality, and moving from rigid to flexible spacer bar has been 100% better,” said Noella. “We’ve seen significantly less wastage and a much more consistent unit.”
Automation has streamlined operations across the factory floor, reducing manual handling and improving workflow. Where once up to eight operatives were required, the new system now runs efficiently with just three, all while delivering a higher output. “The quality is better, customers are happier, and we’re able to meet demand more effectively because we can produce a lot more units because of the speed of the line,” added Angharad Palmer.
Central to the success of the transition has been Derw Glass’s close working relationship with Edgetech, a Quanex

company. From initial planning through to installation and beyond, the support provided has helped ensure a smooth and confident move into automation. “Edgetech have been fantastic from the outset,” said Noella. “Even before the line was fully installed, Tony Palmer and the team were helping us analyse usage, forecast volumes, and guide us through the process. The ongoing support has been invaluable, and we see Edgetech as more than a supplier; it’s a genuine partnership.”
Tony Palmer, Head of Sales at Edgetech, commented: “Derw Glass is a great example of how forward-thinking manufacturers
can embrace automation and flexible spacer technology to achieve significant gains in quality and efficiency. We’re proud to support them and look forward to continuing our partnership long into the future.”
With investment in automation securing the business for decades to come, Derw Glass is optimistic about what lies ahead.
“This investment will take us forward for the next 20 years,” added Angharad. “We’re building a future we can pass on to the next generation of the family to keep the Derw Glass legacy going, and we definitely see Edgetech as part of that journey.”
Software support from an expert

There’s a brand new name in the software sector – but with a trusted and familiar name behind it. The Fenestration Software Consultancy (FSC) is the new venture from Nick Bailey, who spent many years in both installations and sales at Business Micros, first as a senior technician and then as head of the sales team. Nick has set up his new company to offer independent, practical support to fenestration manufacturers and their customers and help them get more from their software, systems and processes.
He is focused primarily on the Evolution, EvoNET and Evo Satellite systems which are used so extensively across the industry, and brings the kind of expert knowledge and experience which can only come from being immersed in the software for almost 20 years.
Nick explained: “I have seen first-hand the issues and frustrations that fabricators go through with their IT packages and

know all the pinch points that can cause them problems. More importantly, I know how to fix them. I also know how just many fabricators could be getting better value from their software if they utilised it more effectively, and I will be looking to demonstrate that.
He added: “FSC is not about sales or upselling – it’s about helping fabricators and installers make the most of what
they already have. My approach is straightforward - listen, understand the problem, provide honest recommendations and help put practical improvements in place. I can help with user training, data maintenance, process improvement, and system configuration.
“Since I announced the launch of The Fenestration Software Consultancy, I’ve had several calls from fabricators who want me to come in and provide project support and problem solving and that will cover everything from reviewing how systems are being used and tidying up data, to improving workflows and simply helping untangle something that is not working as well as it should.
“I can deliver support remotely, on-site or through a mix of both, and I am flexible in terms of a quick conversation, a day of consultancy or ongoing help. I can also advise on wider software and IT tools that support day-to-day operations for fabricators and installers and help them optimise their systems.”

Centenary celebration is a ‘Perfekt’ testimony to NorDan success
Having started its life in a small Norwegian village in 1926, NorDan is now one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of aluminium-clad timber windows and doors. With people, partnerships and values the reasons behind the company’s century of success, it welcomed group management, representatives of the owning family, partners and customers to a celebration at the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence in London.
Set in the stunning Grade II listed building on Palace Green, home to the Norwegian Ambassador since 1951, the June festivities shone a spotlight on NorDan’s core principle of ‘Perfekt Samspill’, a collaborative, family-like environment that focuses on harmony across all facets of the business.
Originally founded as a small woodworking workshop in Moi, NorDan quickly developed a reputation for quality and craftsmanship. While now a multinational company boasting more than 2,600 employees across Europe, the organisation still maintains the very same long-term thinking and collaborative culture it was renowned for a century ago and remains family-owned by descendants of Johannes and Tøri Rasmussen.
Perfekt Samspill has been a strong foundation for continued growth in the UK and internationally, something Johannes Rasmussen, Marketing Director of NorDan Gruppen, was keen to stress. He said: “NorDan’s anniversary is about more than history. It is about values, culture and the Perfekt Samspill between people, expertise and markets. It is this interplay that makes us a choice for generations to come.”
Craig Greenwood, Managing Director at NorDan UK, emphasised the reasons for NorDan’s centennial success. He said: “100 years ago, Johannes Rasmussen decided to start a business in a small town called Moi. I doubt he expected that 100 years later,

his grandchildren and great-grandchildren would be celebrating its centenary in a beautiful Embassy in London. It’s a fantastic accolade and is testimony to NorDan’s long-term mindset. They don’t think about the next quarter; they think about the next generation.”
Sustainability, long-term thinking, quality and performance shaped the conversation throughout the evening creating an ideal opportunity for dialogue and networking between Norwegian and British colleagues. In his speech to guests, Dag Kroslid, CEO of NorDan Gruppen, underlined the importance of the British market. He said: “Today, the UK is NorDan’s second-largest market and the most important market outside Norway. NorDan has developed its business in close collaboration with British customers and partners, and the experience gained here has been crucial for the group’s growth, innovation and position in Europe. NorDan would not be the company we are today without our operations in the UK. As we
celebrate 100 years in 2026, it is both about being proud of what we have built together and about looking ahead, in close collaboration with our customers and partners.”
The event formed part of NorDan’s wider centenary celebrations, with a series of activities taking place in Norway and internationally throughout the rest of 2026, including the opening of a new showroom, museum, facility upgrades, sporting events, and other festivities with customers and partners.
For NorDan, commemorating the centenary is as much about acknowledging the past as it is looking to the future. While it has prided itself on continual investment and growth during its century of operation, it is heavily focused on the next stage of its journey. Its recent acquisitions of Performance Doorset Solutions (PDS), Esk Glazing and RED Systems have further expanded its capabilities and laid the groundwork for it to be a leading supplier across the wider building envelope sector in the near future.
‘Outstanding Contribution’ Award
GAP (General All-Purpose Plastics), the UK’s leading independent trade manufacturer and specialist in low-maintenance PVC-U building products, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Award by Taylor Wimpey, one of the UK’s largest housebuilders.
The accolade was presented to the GAP team during Taylor Wimpey’s annual supplier conference, hosted at the world-renowned Belfry Golf Course.
The major industry award celebrates the long-standing partnership between the two companies, which has seen GAP reliably supply BBA-certified, sustainable building products to construction sites nationwide. Crucially, it highlights the continuous, collaborative efforts of GAP’s internal scheduling, manufacturing, and trade counter
teams who ensure seamless, day-to-day fulfilment across the country.
Amidst a historically turbulent construction market, GAP’s capacity to deliver has been sustained by its massive infrastructure footprint, consisting of a nationwide network of over 110 trade depots, vast stock levels, and an agile, company-owned distribution fleet.

This framework enables GAP to react instantly to localised developer demands, maintaining a consistent supply chain for national housebuilders and independent regional contractors alike.
Dave Tingle, National Sales Director at
GAP, expressed his immense pride in the achievement: “Receiving the Outstanding Contribution award from Taylor Wimpey is an incredible achievement that we are deeply proud of. This recognition does not just belong to the National team; it belongs entirely to the hard-working teams across the whole of GAP.
“From our factory floors and scheduling rooms to the depot teams loading vehicles every morning, every single employee plays a critical role in supporting Taylor Wimpey developments nationwide. We look forward to building on this fantastic partnership for many more years to come.”

Sheerline’s inline patio glides through enhanced security testing
SheerGlide®, the new inline patio from Sheerline, is now available with an enhanced security upgrade. The patio has achieved PAS 24 accreditation, which is offered as standard on all Sheerline products, however, homeowners can now request a Secured by Design (SBD) upgrade.
The rigorous testing process saw the inline patio subjected to physical security testing, a manual attack to check for weak spots, and mechanical load testing. The aim is to assess the product as a whole while also focusing on specific component parts.
Clever in-built innovations ensure SheerGlide® is secure. This includes TwinLock, which is the first single component interlock, combining both security and thermal efficiency. It’s strong and fully thermally broken, and at 38mm, it maintains the slim aesthetic homeowners expect.
Additionally, it’s non-bonded to make it easier to manufacture, transport, and install. Other security features including the modular ‘quad’ hooklock provided by Ingenious Locks & Hardware. This true PAS 24 lock delivers exceptional levels of reliable security and operation.
Security is a key feature of all Sheerline
products, and the new inline patio is no different. Given the poor reputation inline sliders have had in terms of both security and thermal performance, it was key the inhouse R&D team overcame these issues.
This doesn’t just reflect homeowner demand or the fact that standards have increased across the industry. It reflects Sheerline’s approach and commitment to having a 100% fully matched range in terms of refined aesthetics, high-performance U-values, and enhanced security, across its windows, doors, and roof-related products.
Ben Hartshorn, Sheerline’s Technical and Design Director, said: “When people see SheerGlide®, they see a stylish sliding patio door. But what they don’t see is the months of development and refinement that went into it. Being able to offer enhanced security as standard alongside an optional upgrade is a testament to our commitment to security.”
“We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved and we’re already working on the next stage of development – watch this space for updates,” he added.
Sheerline hasn’t just renewed its commitment to security and continuous development, but also the goal of making life easier for fabricators and installers. This

is why SheerGlide® is available in bar length or as a time-saving kit requiring just three decisions.
For more information on SheerGlide® contact the team directly on 01332 978 000 or email info@sheerline.com.

SILKA urges installers to target younger homeowners driving renovation demand
SILKA is encouraging installers to take a closer look at younger homeowners after new research revealed a significant shift in renovation behaviour.
MyBuilder’s latest Renovation Nation Report found that 18 to 34-year-olds are nearly five times more likely to upgrade their current home than those aged over 55. More than half (53%) say the current financial climate makes them more likely to invest in their existing property rather than move, compared to just 11% of over-55s.
“Younger homeowners are becoming an increasingly important part of the renovation market, but many businesses are still communicating in the same way they always have,” explains Asa McGillian, Managing Director at SILKA Aluminium Windows & Doors.
“They’re investing in extensions, upgrading existing spaces and taking on ambitious renovation projects much earlier than previous generations. The opportunity is there, but it’s important to recognise that this audience often researches products

differently, and has different expectations.” SILKA says younger homeowners are more likely to compare products online, get excited by inspiration-led content,
and scrutinise specification details before making purchasing decisions.
“This type of customer often arrives at an appointment with a clear idea of what they want their project to look like. What they’re often less familiar with is the specification behind it, and why one solution costs more than another,” Asa adds.
“That creates a real opportunity for installers who can clearly communicate value. Whether it’s smart technology, premium materials, security features or long-term performance, this age bracket are looking to the experts for assurance they’re making the right investment.”
The findings also reinforce the importance of providing installers with the right tools to support those conversations. Through the SILKAselect Trade Partner Portal, SILKA provides approved partners with access to magazine-style brochures, datasheets, videos, imagery, social media content and marketing assets designed to bring their aluminium products to life, and support sales activity.
Endurance® Doors inspires future female talent by supporting WiME
Endurance® Doors has demonstrated its commitment to nurturing future talent by supporting the WiME Raising Aspirations Programme in partnership with Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) and The Vale Academy. The initiative is designed to encourage more young women to consider careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), showcase the breadth of opportunities available within modern manufacturing and engineering, and provide practical insight into modern industry, helping to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world careers. Confidence building is another key aim of the programme.
The programme reflects Endurance® Doors’ wider focus on investing in local communities, developing the workforce of tomorrow and helping to promote greater diversity across the manufacturing sector.
Students were inspired by female industry professionals, including Endurance® team members, Emma Sloan and Jessie Meakin who led a series of workshops designed to help participants identify their strengths, develop confidence and think about their future ambitions.
Other speakers included Sarah Cook from Wood and Lisa Carter from Munich Re who shared their own career journeys and experiences and highlighted the value of determination, resilience and self-belief. The second phase of the programme

included a visit to the Endurance® Doors manufacturing facility where students were given a guided tour of the extrusion department by Ryan Clarkson.
The visit offered valuable first-hand insight into a modern manufacturing environment, allowing students to observe production processes, ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the diverse range of roles available across the sector, including engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, logistics and business functions. Russell Hensman, Brand Engagement Manager at Endurance® Doors, said: “As one of the UK’s leading composite door manufacturers, we are passionate
about supporting the next generation and helping young people understand the exciting opportunities available within modern manufacturing and engineering. Programmes such as WiME play a vital role in raising aspirations, building confidence and challenging perceptions about careers in STEM and we are proud to champion and be a part of the initiative.
“It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and engagement from the students throughout the programme. By opening our doors and sharing real-world experiences, we hope we have helped inspire some of the future talent that our industry will rely on for years to come.”

Plastic Parts Direct boss grills Labour MP over costs and red tape
ABanbury plastics manufacturer has grilled its local MP over soaring energy bills, rising employment costs and what the company’s boss describes as a government “out of touch” with the realities facing small businesses.
Plastic Parts Direct invited Sean Woodcock, Labour MP for Banbury, to its manufacturing site after raising questions in correspondence about the government’s handling of increased fuel duty revenues, estimated to be generating an additional £25 million a day for the Treasury.
The answer they received was blunt. The extra money was simply that, extra revenue, with no plans to reduce duty or tax to help businesses manage what are already punishing energy costs.
But energy bills were only the start of it. The firm’s management used the visit to challenge Woodcock on a string of concerns weighing on the business, from the increases to national insurance contributions and the national minimum wage, to forthcoming employment law reforms. The overall impression, according to the company, was of a Whitehall machine that views every business through the same

lens as a large multinational with cash to spare.
The firm, which manufactures and sells plastic accessories into the fenestration and building industries, also pressed the MP on Labour’s failure to hit its own housebuilding target of 300,000 new homes a year, a
shortfall that directly affects demand for their products. The current figure stands at around 195,000. The response, that changes to planning rules would resolve matters, appeared to satisfy no one in the room.
Further frustrations emerged over net zero policy, with the company arguing that offshoring emissions simply moves pollution elsewhere, often to countries still heavily reliant on fossil fuels, while pricing British manufacturers out of the market.
The company also questioned how smaller suppliers could break into the government’s increased defence spending, describing attempts to do so as hitting a “brick wall.” Woodcock offered to follow the matter up.
To his credit, company bosses acknowledged that the MP had shown up at all, facing awkward questions rather than declining the invitation.
The firm’s wider message to fellow small business owners was clear: get your MP into your workplace. “By listening to those small businesses that are the backbone of the UK,” the company said, government could begin to understand the world beyond Westminster and perhaps help get the country back on track.
Glazing installers warned over hidden safety glass compliance risks
Installers and developers are being urged to ensure safety glazing is correctly specified, installed and evidenced, amid warnings that repeated errors across larger projects can lead to significant commercial consequences.
Safety glass is required under Building Regulations in certain locations, including low-level windows, glazed doors, side panels, screens and partitions in circulation routes. These obligations are set out in Approved Document K.
While a single missing pane of safety glass may be relatively simple to put right, industry inspection body RISA said problems can become far more serious when the same mistake is repeated across an entire housing scheme or multi-plot development.
“A single missing pane of safety glass is an easy remediation,” said Lee Galley, Inspection Manager at RISA. “But when a specification error has been repeated across every plot on a development, you are no longer talking about a quick visit.
“This becomes a programme of works, potential Building Regulations noncompliance, and costs that can run wild.”
The challenge for installers is that safety glazing failures are not always immediately visible. Many modern glass products are

not clearly marked, while markings may be obscured, removed or absent altogether.
Toughened and laminated glass can also appear similar to standard float glass to those without specialist knowledge. RISA said this can make it difficult to confirm whether the correct product has been installed without appropriate equipment or expertise.
The organisation’s Safety Glazing Assessments are intended to address that issue by checking installed glazing against its location, the use of the building and relevant safety glazing standards.
“Where markings are absent or unclear, we use specialist glass analysis equipment to help identify the type and make-up of the installed glazing,” Mr Galley said. “This gives
clients a technically informed assessment, not just a walkthrough.”
Where required, the findings can be used to produce a schedule of remedial works, as well as confirmation where existing glazing is compliant.
RISA said early assessment is likely to be more cost-effective than dealing with issues after completion or occupation.
“The earlier we are involved, the better the outcome tends to be,” Mr Galley said. “Once a building is occupied or a development is signed off, addressing glazing compliance becomes a far more complex and costly exercise.
“Independent verification at the right stage can prevent that entirely.”
The company said its independence is central to the service. Unlike a contractor that may be asked both to inspect glazing and carry out replacement work, RISA said its role is limited to inspection and reporting.
“We will never recommend replacement where a reasonable and proportionate remedial solution exists,” Mr Galley said. “Our job is to establish the facts and set out what is actually necessary.”
For installers, RISA said evidence of correct glazing can help protect businesses as well as support compliance.
Aluminium sliders draw level with bifolds as homeowner tastes evolve
Latest figures from Tommy Trinder reveal a significant milestone in the aluminium door market; sliding patio doors now account for exactly half of all aluminium slider and bifold sales by value. Based on quoting activity from hundreds of installers using the Tommy Trinder platform, aluminium sliding doors have steadily gained ground over the past two years and have now reached parity with bifolds.
“We’ve been watching sliders close the gap for some time,” says Tommy Trinder founder and CEO Chris Brunsdon. “Now they’ve caught up. It’s a fascinating moment because bifolds have dominated the market for well over a decade, but homeowners are increasingly valuing the uninterrupted views, slimmer sightlines and hassle-free operation that modern aluminium sliders deliver.”
The trend reflects a broader maturation of the aluminium market. Once regarded as a specialist product, aluminium is now firmly mainstream, with more installers offering comprehensive aluminium ranges than ever before.
“Competition has intensified as adoption has grown,” Chris continues. “That has helped make aluminium more accessible, while continued innovation in sliding door systems has made them an increasingly compelling option for both contemporary new-builds and renovation projects.”
The figures also underline the importance of presentation during the sales

process. Premium products continue to perform strongly when homeowners can properly visualise them.
“Large aluminium sliders are an aspirational purchase,” says Chris. “If you can show a homeowner exactly how a four, five or six-panel slider will transform the rear of their property, the conversation changes completely. The ability to present products photo realistically using Tommy’s ‘Bring It To Life’ feature then output highly professional proposals gives installers a real advantage when selling higher-value installations.”
Commenting on the robustness of
the findings, Chris adds: “More than 700 window companies now use Tommy every day to prepare quotations, from independent installers to national businesses across the UK. While our customer base naturally leans towards companies that embrace premium products and modern selling techniques, it provides one of the clearest real-time indicators of changing homeowner demand.”
For installers, the message is clear: aluminium bifolds remain hugely popular, but sliding doors are no longer the challenger. Today, they’re an equal player in the premium patio market.
Eurocell opens refurbished Birkenhead branch with window and door display
Eurocell, the UK’s leading specialist in home improvement products, has completed a full refurbishment of its Birkenhead trade branch, introducing a purpose-built space that puts its extensive range of windows and doors on display for the local trade community.
Now open at Units 9-10, Egerton Court, Birkenhead CH41 1FN, the refreshed branch has been transformed from a traditional trade counter into a destination for installers to bring their customers.
The centrepiece is a dedicated display area where tradespeople can explore the full breadth of Eurocell’s window and door portfolio in person. Local installers can now assess hardware quality, frame construction and finish before committing to a specification.
The revamped space has also been designed with end customers in mind. Installers can bring homeowners into the branch to walk through style options, colour choices and configurations, helping them

make more informed decisions about their projects before work begins.
Mick Phillips, Branch Manager at Birkenhead, said: “Birkenhead has a strong and active trade community, and this investment shows our commitment to the best support possible. We’ve got a fantastic team here
who genuinely know their products inside out, whether that’s helping an installer choose the right composite door for a period property or working through the technical spec on a larger development.
“What excites me most is the conversations we’re able to have. When you’ve got the products right in front of you on display, it’s much easier to match the right solution to the job. We’re not just here to process orders; we want to be a proper resource for the local trade and help our customers grow their businesses especially at a time when we know the market is challenging.”
The branch stocks a comprehensive range of PVC-U and aluminium windows and doors, conservatories, composite doors, roofline products, and outdoor solutions including fencing and decking. Among the highlights is the recently-launched Peak Collection, a range of 48mm solid timber-core composite doors engineered for superior security, thermal performance and striking kerb appeal.
Installer demand rebounds as window and door project values normalise
Business Pilot’s June Barometer points to stronger enquiry levels and steadier homeowner confidence, despite a fall in average order values.
Window and door installers saw demand strengthen in June as enquiry levels rebounded and sales activity improved, according to the latest Business Pilot Barometer.
The data suggests the market has regained momentum after a softer May, when lower enquiry volumes were offset by a spike in higher-value projects. In June, average leads rose from 99.8 to 116.1, an increase of more than 16%, reversing the slowdown recorded over the previous two months.
Sales also moved higher, climbing from 48.2 in May to 54.4 in June. Business Pilot said the rise showed installers were converting stronger consumer interest into confirmed work, with conversion rates holding broadly stable at 39.8%, down only marginally from 39.9% in May.
Neil Cooper-Smith, senior analyst at Business Pilot, said June’s figures pointed to a broader spread of opportunities across the market. “The data paints a picture of
a market that has regained momentum, with stronger enquiry and sales activity signalling renewed confidence among homeowners entering the summer months,” he said.
Average order values fell sharply from May’s unusually high £4,473 to £3,666 in June, an 18% month-on-month decline. However, Business Pilot said the fall should be seen as a return to more typical trading conditions rather than a weakening of demand, with May’s figure reflecting a concentration of larger projects.

Lead times were largely unchanged, edging up from 24.0 days to 24.1 days, suggesting installers continued to manage workloads effectively despite the rise in enquiries and sales.
The figures come as the wider UK economy offers a mixed backdrop for big-ticket home improvement spending. CPI inflation stood at 2.8% in May 2026, unchanged from April, while the Bank of
England held Bank Rate at 3.75% in June, with its next decision due on 30 July. For installers, the latest data underlines the importance of tracking leads, conversion rates and order values closely as demand patterns shift. Business Pilot said firms that remain data-led and responsive are likely to be best placed to sustain growth through the summer.
Beating the heat with integral blinds from Morley Glass this summer
As the UK’s increasingly regular summer heatwaves begin, now is a great time for window and door installers to provide homeowners with a solution that will help keep their homes cool in the form of integral blinds.
According to Morley Glass, the UK’s largest manufacturer of bespoke ScreenLine® integral blinds, an IGU complete with an integral blind and solar control glass can reduce heat transmission to such an extent that the temperature difference between outside to inside is cut by up to 9° Celsius. This level of heat reduction is maintained over the lifespan of the company’s Uni-Blinds® units, giving homeowners a long term solution for reducing overheating risk as climate change impacts and summer temperatures gradually rise.
All Uni-Blinds® integral blind systems offer heat reflection, with certain colours and types being particularly effective. The blind’s functionality can be paired with the advanced solar control glass option that Morley Glass offers for maximum protection in strong sunshine. This glass has a microscopically thin coating applied to the inner face of the glass to reduce solar gain whilst also preventing heat loss at colder times of the year.
As integral blinds are permanently sealed within the IGU, they cannot become damaged or attract dirt or dust which affects the longevity and visual appearance of traditional blinds, curtains and external solar shading systems such as external shutters, brise soleil and awnings.
Ian Short, Managing Director of Morley Glass, said: “June 2026 has seen a large part of Britain and Europe affected by another intense heatwave, which understandably means more and more homeowners are turning their attention to how to keep their homes cool. This is quite a reversal in traditional thinking for many UK consumers who have up to recently been heavily focused on the opposite – insulating our homes to keep warm – especially as we’ve seen energy prices spike.

is going to be a bigger part of consumer purchasing decisions in future, and integral blinds offer installers a valuable market opportunity to provide a product that ticks both boxes.”
“As the window and door industry is well versed in selling the benefits of heat retention and the promise of warmer homes in deepest winter, offering solutions for reducing solar gain and preventing overheating for a large part of the year can seem like a contradiction. However, cooling
While ScreenLine® integral blinds are best known as a solution to provide privacy, one of the main reasons for their development by Pellini S.p.A. back in the 1990s was to offer an alternative to damageprone external shutters, which are widely used in houses and apartments across mainland Europe.

J&K cuts routing time 50%, prompting second Kombimatec investment

Kombimatec is continuing to demonstrate how the right machinery investment, backed by practical support and expertise, can help fabricators improve efficiency, accuracy and profitability, following a successful partnership with Norfolk-based fabricator J&K Glass & Glazing. The family-run business first partnered with Kombimatec through the installation of a CR5650 Trickle Vent Router, which reduced routing times by 50%.
The success of that investment, coupled with the hands-on support provided by Kombimatec managing director David Parsons, led J&K to return to the machinery specialist when it came time to upgrade its mitre saw capability.
Second to none
“Accessibility to David and his knowledge is second to none,” said Andrew Chilvers, general manager. “So when we identified the need to update our mitre saw a year after the installation of the vent router, we went straight back to see what Kombimatec could offer in comparison to some of the other machinery suppliers.
David Parsons presented them with his DGS500 Electronic Double Mitre Saw.
“I admit that when we spoke about it over the phone, it sounded quite complicated,” continued Andrew. “But travelling down to view the machine at Kombimatec’s Leighton Buzzard HQ, I could appreciate the inherent simplicity of the machine and its ease of use. It was clear that it would give us great accuracy and efficiency. Add to that the price tag – coming in at a significantly more sensible price than its closest competitor –
and Kombimatec’s proven customer service – the decision was a fait accompli before I had even arrived back in Norfolk.”
Since its installation earlier this year, the DGS500 has gained a real fan club across the J&K’s production team, many of whom are family members.
“Not only is the machine more accurate, but its ease of use is a hit across all the operatives no matter how experienced they are, or not”, added Andrew. “There’s a flow to the way it carries out each process – accommodating the different ways each operator handles the profile to create a consistent and uniformed result.”
Consistent 100 frames per week
Established in the early 1980s by John Engledow, the company has been producing a consistent 100 frames per week (on average), serving the local community, both retail and trade, with products which are manufactured with care and craftsmanship. Having lived through the rise and fall of the super-fabricators, the over confidence in mass automation, and the market being flooded with cheap, substandard components, the company has remained steadfast in its desire to make windows which are a ‘little bit special’.
Lauren Chilvers, director of J&K and daughter of founder John (who to this day is happiest in the company’s glazing department), commented: “Bending with the market is crucial to our evolution and survival, but not at the expense of our core values – that of focusing on the true craft of making a window or door. A major part of this is having that trust in our suppliers, most of whom have been with us over the
decades. Our hinge supplier, for example, has been supplying us for over 20 years. We would rather have the confidence and trust, which is then communicated in the same way to our customers.”
That doesn’t mean to say that the company doesn’t explore new opportunities with new suppliers – and if it likes what it sees, it applies the same values of trust and loyalty. So when Kombimatec installed a CR5650 Trickle Vent Router, enabling J&K production to reduce its routing process by 50 per cent, all with a pragmatic, hands on support by Kombimatec managing director David Parsons, J&K knew it had found a likeminded supplier for its business.
Higher premium orders
The market is changing, but that does not mean J&K will compromise on its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Most recently the company has noticed that it is getting more and more enquiries coming through from general builders, rather than specialised window fitters, who are retiring without being replaced. Volumes may be reducing, but the orders that are coming in have higher premiums with more bespoke requirements.
“Business is as a result remaining relatively steady, and giving us the space to focus on that quality and craftsmanship,” said Lauren Chilvers.
“Kombimatec gives us that sense of confidence to create product which is that little bit special, that elevates the finished look of an installation job, and that will carry J&K through to the next generation of family making windows and doors for this corner of the country.”

DIRECTOR OF THE MONTH
In this month’s director of the month feature, we talk to Suzanne Nicholl, Sales and Marketing Director of Kenricks
Thirty years in the fenestration industry teaches you that no twelve months are ever quite the same! Markets rise and fall, customer expectations evolve and new opportunities emerge, but the businesses that succeed are invariably those that continue to adapt, invest and remain focused on delivering value.
Those are qualities that attracted me to Kenrick when I joined the business earlier this year.
Established in 1791, Kenrick is one of the industry’s longest-standing hardware manufacturers. Its heritage spans more than 230 years, which is an extraordinary achievement in any sector. However, what impressed me most was not just the company’s impressive history, but the ambition within the business and the determination to continue moving forward.
It’s fair to say that the past 12 months have been challenging across much of the industry. Economic uncertainty, inflationary pressures and cautious consumer confidence have all influenced buying patterns throughout the supply chain. Fabricators and installers have had to work harder to win business, improve efficiencies and demonstrate value in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
For hardware suppliers, that creates both pressure and opportunity.
Customers are rightly more selective about the partners they choose. They want products that perform, service they can rely on and suppliers that understand the realities of fabrication, installation and dayto-day business pressures.
Since joining Kenrick, customer feedback has reinforced the strength of the business. Customers value the quality and reliability of the product range, but they also value the experience and support behind it. In a market where time, consistency and confidence matter, that combination is extremely important.
The last year has also shown that visibility matters more than ever. In an industry of choice, customers are researching potential supply partners long before the first sales conversation takes place. They are looking at websites, social media, press coverage and industry presence. Kenrick has become far more visible across the market in recent years, and that increased presence has helped create stronger engagement with both existing and new customers.
A key milestone in that journey was Kenrick’s debut appearance at FIT Show 2025. The event provided an excellent platform to showcase the business and engage with existing and prospective customers from across the industry. The launch of AK Touch Secure™ helped raise the profile of the Kenrick brand, opened the door to new con-

versations and reinforced our position as a business that continues to invest in product innovation whilst responding to changing market demands.
The positive response also reflected growing interest in smart security solutions. Homeowners are looking for greater convenience, connectivity and security, creating new opportunities for fabricators and installers to differentiate their offering. Businesses that understand how to communicate these benefits effectively will be well placed to capitalise on this developing market.
The success of AK Touch Secure™ has allowed us to further expand our smart security offering, with products such as the AK Safe Secure Smart Lock Box creating additional opportunities in residential, commercial and holiday-let environments where secure and convenient access control is increasingly important.
However, while smart technology is creating new opportunities, the strength of Kenrick remains firmly rooted in traditional window and door hardware supply.
Hardware continues to form the backbone of the fenestration industry. Fabricators and installers need products they can trust, products that are easy to fabricate and install, and products that consistently deliver the levels of performance their customers expect. Those fundamentals remain just as important today as they have ever been.
Products such as our Excalibur, Interceptor, Nemesis and Maximus continue to generate strong demand because they provide exactly that combination of reliability, performance and practicality.
Our Excalibur multi-point door lock is a particularly strong example. Demand continues to grow because it combines security, reliability and ease of fabrication. The inclusion of a sprung gearbox is an important differentiator, helping to deliver

SFS invests in Insight Data’s growth software

SFS, the market-leaders in high-performance hinge solutions for PVC-U, composite and aluminium systems are the latest company to train its sales teams on Salestracker, Insight Data’s growth platform. The company has been an Insight customer for over 10 years and is one of a growing number of companies who are re-thinking their approach to sales.
Nigel Wood, Director of Sales – Hinge and Fastener Technology for SFS explained; “SFS is part of an international group, and we operate a global CRM platform, and only ever relied on Insight Data to supply market information.
But technology is moving fast, and we want to give our sales teams the best tools to deliver maximum results. Salestracker gives our team deep market intelligence, but it also has the tools and features to really drive growth, and it made sense to have a team training day.”
Insight Data has dedicated training facilities at its 7,500 sq ft offices near Bristol, with a team on-hand to provide expert training and configuration. Many Insight customers already use the facilities for regional meetings and training.
Rob Sheppard, Technical Support Executive commented; “While Salestracker gives users access to in-depth information on fabricators and installers, as well as the wider building and construction sectors, it is much more than just a database of prospects.
It’s a growth platform designed for sales and marketing teams. It can work alongside existing CRM software or replace it completely. Since SFS uses a group-wide CRM for their global business, we were able to customise Salestracker to give their UK team agile tools and features to move fast, while working alongside their existing CRM.”

Emplas becomes a member of the GGF
Emplas has become the latest big name to sign-up to Glass and Glazing Federation membership. Founded in 1979 and still family-owned, the G25 Fabricator of the Year has played a key part in driving innovation within the window and door industry.
With a track record of investment in automation, digital ordering, realtime delivery tracking, sustainability and product innovation, it’s among the UK’s leading window and door manufacturers, working across trade, home improvement and commercial sectors. Craig Johnson, Director, Emplas, said: “While we have always recognised that the GGF plays an important part within the industry, there was perhaps a slight misalignment, which meant that the time was never quite right for us to join. You only need to look online or pick up the trade press to see how much the GGF has changed - and more importantly – how much change the construction and building products sectors are going through more generally. Having access to the latest technical updates and Government guidance is invaluable in supporting us and our customers in navigating, some fairly turbulent regulatory waters, not to mention wider economic pressures within the market.”
Emplas operates from one of the UK’s most advance manufacturing facilities. This includes its’ Wellingborough operational hub, having added a second and dedicated door manufacturing facility in 2024. It’s also one of only a handful of fabricators to operate its own IGU facility, connecting and bringing complete visibility to the manufacturing process. With a sustained multi-millionpound investment programme recent innovations include its launch of a unique recycling scheme developed in partnership with Polypure.
Combined with investment in solar generation, energy reduction measures, route optimisation and waste reduction initiatives, its allowed Emplas to manufacture one of the UK’s lowest carbon windows at only 3.73kg of CO2, per frame. Craig continued: “We have always taken the view that scale brings responsibility. We manufacture at volume, but we remain a family business, and our focus is on using that scale to deliver better products, better service and better support to customers. Joining the GGF is part of that commitment. It aligns with where we are as a business and where the industry is heading.”

Stricter regulations are not a burden, but a catalyst for driving better standards in hardware says Sam
Nuckey, Managing Director of Window Ware
As an industry, we’ve always evolved in response to regulation, but the current landscape feels markedly different. Today’s drivers, particularly developments around PAS 24 and the ongoing consultation surrounding Document Q, are doing more than simply raising standards.

They are reshaping expectations across the entire supply chain and, crucially, reinforcing the value of quality hardware in a way we haven’t seen before.
For many years, hardware was too often viewed as something specified to meet a price point rather than a performance threshold. It’s a mindset that is becoming increasingly outdated.
PAS 24 has long been recognised as a benchmark for enhanced security performance, but as its influence grows and Document Q continues to evolve, the gap between basic and best-in-class hardware is now almost impossible to ignore.
This shift creates a level playing field where quality wins and presents a significant opportunity. When standards demand higher levels of security and performance, there is no longer justification for using inferior products, and it instead places the emphasis firmly on reliability, durability and proven compliance.
This is something we should actively champion as an industry. The Document Q
consultation is particularly important because it underscores the expertise within our sector. It sends a clear message that we are an industry that takes pride in delivering products that protect people and property. Every home deserves to be safe and secure, and higher standards help ensure it is delivered consistently and it’s a huge opportunity for our industry.
Alongside this, there are wider market dynamics at play that could further drive demand. The ongoing conversation around positioning windows and doors as energy-efficient home improvements, eligible for grants or incentives, has gained renewed momentum. In the aftermath of other products such as air source heat pumps becoming more notorious for not achieving the energy efficiency results expected, if successful it could be transformative and create a real shift in demand in home upgrades, placing even greater emphasis on high-performance products.
In that context, hardware becomes even more critical. Energy efficiency and security are linked to the overall performance of a window or door, and both rely heavily on the quality of the components used. As scrutiny increases, so too does the need for products that can stand up to it.
For Window Ware and every other business committed to quality, these market drivers present a clear direction of travel, and it’s one that promises long-term value for manufacturers, installers and homeowners alike.

Framexpress delivers real-world reliability for Sean Cardwell Windows
Trade fabricator Framexpress has received high praise from Sean Cardwell Windows. The local installation company, based in Western-Super-Mare, specialises in all manner of home improvements and has a long-standing relationship with Framexpress, purchasing PVC-U windows and doors, composite doors and aluminium products from the Telfordbased manufacturer.
In our fast-paced industry, the difference between a smooth project and a frustrated homeowner can often come down to the reliability of the supply chain. Sean Cardwell understands that while perfection is the goal, the true test of a manufacturer is how they handle the unpredictable.
Sean says: “In the real world, nothing is perfect, but when there is an issue, what really matters is how it is dealt with. If I ever have a problem, I know that I can just call Sarah in customer care and it will be rectified within a couple of days.
“It’s being kept in the picture that really matters to me. Delays can happen, and it might not be ideal, but if it is going to happen, Framexpress always keeps me in the loop and tells me as soon as they can, which makes a huge difference for me and my customers.
“My rep, Dave [Stearman] is perfect and always around if I need to talk to him, but these days I mostly deal directly with the people in the office. They’re always polite and efficient and get quotes sent over quickly.
“The delivery guys couldn’t be more helpful and they’re flexible too. If I’m up the road when they come for a drop-off, it’s no bother, they’ll wait for me or meet me there - it’s those little touches that really make the difference for me.
“Business is good - I’ve just taken on a new fitter, which means we’ll be moving faster through projects this year and I know that Framexpress can keep up!
“Pricing is competitive, point-of-sale and back-up support is spot-on, the products are great - honestly, I can’t praise you enough!”

ACTIVE VOICES
Neil Parton, Managing Director of Elumatec UK: Simplifying manufacturing environments improves efficiency and helps inspire the next generation to imagine themselves working in the industry
Each summer brings a fresh intake of school and college leavers into the workforce. For manufacturers, it’s a timely reminder that the long-term strength of the sector depends on how effectively we continue to attract, train and retain new people into shop floor roles.
At the same time, many businesses are already thinking about how knowledge and experience can be passed on effectively across teams. It’s not a new challenge, but it is becoming more visible as production demands increase and lead times remain under pressure.
The manufacturing skills challenge is often discussed as a recruitment problem. In my view, that’s only part of the picture. The bigger challenge is creating environments where new entrants can become productive, confident and engaged quickly enough to build long-term careers in the industry.
We often talk about attracting young people into manufacturing. I believe the more important question is whether we’re making manufacturing attractive once they arrive.
It’s not just recruitment — it’s relevance
Competitive pay matters, but I don’t believe manufacturing’s talent challenge will be solved by wages alone. Younger people increasingly judge workplaces by how efficiently they operate, how quickly they can learn, and whether the tools they’re given help them succeed.
For many younger entrants, expectations around technology are shaped by the digital tools they use every day. They are accustomed to systems that are intuitive, responsive and easy to navigate. When they enter a manufactur ing environment, however, they often encounter a wide variety of software, machinery and processes, reflecting the different ways businesses have evolved over time.
That isn’t a criticism of the industry. Manufacturing businesses have invested, adapted and grown in response to changing market demands for decades. But it does mean that the experience for a new starter can vary significantly from one factory to another.

In practical terms, that difference matters.
A mix of experience on the shop floor
One of manufacturing’s greatest strengths has always been its people. Experienced operators bring an understanding of materials, process behaviour and practical problem-solving that cannot be replicated overnight.
At the same time, newer employees often bring strong digital skills and an expectation that systems should support them rather than slow them down.
Too often, these qualities are discussed as though they are competing priorities. I see them as complementary strengths.

The manufacturers that will thrive over the next decade won’t be those that choose between experience and technology. They’ll be the ones that combine the two most effectively. Experience provides judgement, context and expertise. Modern systems help make that knowledge easier to apply consistently, share across teams and transfer to the next generation.
Technology quietly makes a difference
quicker to set up and more consistent in day-to-day operation, it reduces the time it takes for someone to become confident using it. That has a direct impact on productivity, but it also influences how people feel about the environment they work in.
In my experience, manufacturers increasingly value systems that are not only capable, but straightforward to integrate into daily production routines. Not because operators cannot manage complexity, but because reducing unnecessary friction allows skilled people to focus on the work that adds value.
At Elumatec, that thinking has influenced how we approach both machine design and control systems. The objective is simple: clarity of operation, practical usability and a reduced learning curve wherever possible. Technology should support the operator, not become another obstacle for them to overcome.
Looking ahead
Where systems have developed over many years and involve multiple platforms, onboarding can become more challenging than it needs to be. Equally, where interfaces are clear and processes are well structured, people tend to gain confidence and become productive far more quickly.
This is where machine design and software usability play a more important role than they perhaps used to.
For many years, discussions around manufacturing technology focused primarily on capability. Today, capability remains essential, but usability is becoming just as important.
If equipment is easier to understand,
Manufacturing will always rely on skilled people at every stage of the process. That isn’t changing. What is changing is the expectation around how systems support those people. The companies that succeed in the long term are likely to be those that recognise productivity and accessibility are not separate goals. The easier it is for people to learn, contribute and perform consistently, the stronger the business becomes.
If we can make manufacturing environments easier to engage with, we not only improve efficiency, we also make it easier for the next generation to see themselves as part of the industry.
In simple terms, that’s what long-term success looks like.

Sustainability starts behind the scenes
True sustainability extends well beyond the finished product—here’s why Unique Window Systems is rethinking its approach entirely
Sustainability in construction is often judged by what can be seen at the end of a project, such as finished façades or the energy efficiency of windows. But increasingly, the industry is recognising that true sustainability goes far beyond the finished product.
For businesses operating across the sector, sustainability must also be embedded into the way they operate every day. From manufacturing and logistics through to fuel use and supply chain decisions, the operational side of the industry has a major role to play in reducing environmental impact. Developers, contractors and specifiers are looking more closely at the sustainability credentials of the companies they work with, while tightening regulations and future legislation continue to reshape expectations across the sector.
For Unique Window Systems, a leading fabricator of aluminium and PVC-U windows, doors and curtain walling, sustainability is not simply about meeting compliance standards, but also about identifying practical, measurable improvements that can make a genuine difference across the business.
One area attracting growing attention is transport and logistics. Across the construction industry, vehicle emissions remain a significant challenge, particularly for businesses operating large delivery fleets. While the transition to fully electric vehicles remains difficult for many due to infrastructure, range and operational demands, alternative fuels are emerging as an important stepping stone towards lower carbon operations.
This has led to Unique Window Systems trialling HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel as part of its wider sustainability strategy.
HVO is a renewable fuel produced through the hydrotreatment of vegetable oils or animal fats, which significantly reduces harmful emissions. Designed as a drop-in alternative to diesel, it can be used within diesel vehicles and machinery and existing fuelling infrastructure without requiring significant vehicle modifications or operational disruption.
While the requirements for transition to this fuel source are minimal, the environmental benefits are considerable.
Operational impact
If fully implemented across the fleet, the use of HVO at Unique Window Systems could reduce net CO2 emissions by up to 90%.
Current projections show that for every 1,000 litres of HVO used, greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced to 195kg of CO2, compared to the 3.6 tonnes generated by conventional diesel fuel.
Importantly, initiatives such as this demonstrate that sustainability improvements don’t always require extensive operational changes, and that meaningful progress can come from identifying practical solutions that can integrate into existing infrastructure.
Historically, environmental conversations within fenestration have centred heavily around thermal efficiency, glazing performance and compliance with Building Regulations. While these remain critically important, there is now growing recognition that the environmental impact of manufacturing, transport and delivery processes also forms a key part of the wider sustainability picture. For businesses supplying major new build and commercial developments, this matters more than ever.
Across sectors such as Build-to-Rent, purpose-built student accommodation and large scale residential construction, sustainability targets are becoming increasingly ambitious. Developers and contractors are being asked to demonstrate stronger environmental performance throughout their supply chains, and

as a result, those suppliers that can evidence genuine sustainability initiatives are becoming increasingly valuable project partners.
Supply chain focus
Speaking about the ongoing focus on sustainability at Unique Window Systems, and the recent HVO trial, Ashleigh Crane, Head of Compliance, commented: “Sustainability has become an important consideration across every area of construction and that includes the operational side of manufacturing and delivery. It’s not enough to simply focus on the finished product anymore. Businesses also need to look at how they operate day-to-day and where practical improvements can be made.
“For us, the HVO trial is about taking realistic and measurable steps that can reduce environmental impact without affecting the quality or reliability of the service we provide to customers. It’s a practical solution that has the potential to make a significant difference.
“We have partnered with a proven HVO supplier who can guarantee their supply chain from manufacturing abroad back to the UK for Net Zero purposes.
“What’s important now is that sustainability becomes part of the wider business mindset. Incremental improvements such as this one across manufacturing, logistics and supply chain can collectively have a major impact over time.”
Alongside emission reductions, HVO also offers operational advantages that support long-term implementation. The fuel has a 10-year lifespan, helping to reduce degradation concerns and minimise the need for regular testing. Planned investment in on-site fuelling infrastructure including a 15,000L tank, will further support operational efficiency, while helping the business maintain greater control over supply and usage.
Equally important is supply chain transparency. By working closely with suppliers able to verify the origin and sustainability credentials of the fuel throughout the supply chain, businesses can ensure that environmental claims are backed by genuine accountability and traceability.
For the construction industry, this type of operational sustainability is likely to become increasingly important in the years ahead. Far from being the focus of standalone initiatives or marketing messages, it will become an integrated part of how construction businesses and their suppliers operate, manufacture, transport and deliver.
Sustainability must extend beyond products and into every stage of the wider process. Creating more sustainable buildings now relies on building more sustainable businesses behind the scenes.

Tony McAspurn, Production Manager at UKO Glass, explains what makes integral blinds a smart investment for modern living
Smart investment for modern living spaces
In today’s homes and commercial spaces, there’s a demand for practical, lowmaintenance and aesthetically pleasing solutions. As lifestyles evolve, so do expectations around design, functionality and performance. Integral blinds have become an increasingly popular choice, and from my perspective as a Production Manager at UKO Glass, it’s easy to see why they are such a smart investment for modern living.
At their core, integral blinds offer a unique combination of convenience and durability. Unlike traditional blinds, they are sealed between panes of glass, protecting them from dust, damage, and wear. This sealed environment not only keeps the blinds looking pristine over time but also removes the need for regular cleaning or maintenance. For homeowners and property managers alike, this is a significant long-term benefit, both in terms of time saved and product longevity.
Precision in manufacturing
From a manufacturing standpoint, precision is everything. Integral blinds are engineered to operate smoothly within a sealed unit, meaning that every component must work flawlessly together. At UKO Glass, we place a strong emphasis on quality control throughout the production process, ensuring that each unit delivers consistent performance. When installed correctly, integral blinds can last for years without degradation, offering a level of reliability that traditional window coverings cannot match.
Energy efficiency is another key reason why integral blinds are well suited to contemporary living. Modern glazing systems already play a crucial role in reducing heat loss, but when combined with integral blinds, they provide an added layer of thermal control. By adjusting the blinds, users can manage solar gain throughout the day, keeping spaces cooler in the summer and retaining warmth in the winter. This not only enhances comfort but can also contribute to improved energy efficiency, something that is increasingly important in both residential and commercial buildings. Aesthetically, integral blinds support the clean, streamlined look that is central to modern design. Without external cords, fabrics or fixtures, they create a clutter-free appearance that works particularly well in minimalist or open-plan spaces. This simplicity is also a major advantage in

environments such as kitchens, bathrooms, or healthcare settings, where hygiene and ease of cleaning are essential. With no exposed surfaces to collect dust or moisture, integral blinds provide a practical solution without compromising style.
Safety and compliance
Safety is another important consideration. Traditional blinds often come with cords or chains, which can present a risk in family homes or public environments. Integral blinds eliminate this concern entirely, as all mechanisms are enclosed within the glazing unit. This makes them an ideal choice for households with children or pets, as well as for commercial spaces where safety regulations must be carefully observed.
What truly sets integral blinds apart is their adaptability. Available in a variety of control options, including motorised systems, they can be tailored to suit different applications and user preferences. This level of flexibility adds significant value, particularly in high-spec or future-focused developments.
From my experience overseeing production, it’s clear that integral blinds represent more than just a design choice, they are a considered investment in performance, convenience and long-term value. At UKO Glass, we are committed to delivering products that meet the demands

of modern living, combining robust manufacturing processes with forwardthinking design. Ultimately, integral blinds offer a solution that aligns with how people want to live today: efficiently, safely and with minimal compromise. Whether for residential or commercial use, they continue to prove themselves as a reliable, practical and intelligent addition to any space.
Ian Short, MD of Morley Glass,
highlights why integral blinds are ideal for privacy, shading and a wide range of window designs
Versatile privacy and shading solutions
Integral blinds are widely-known for being compatible with standard types of windows and doors, particularly casements. However, with the choice of systems available today in our ever-expanding Uni-Blinds® range, the application potential to incorporate this premium privacy and shading solution into a broader range of domestic window and door styles has never been greater.
In over 22 years of manufacturing UniBlinds® integral blinds exclusively using ScreenLine® systems, one of the stand-out factors that our customers value most is their versatility. The bespoke nature of our products means they can be manufactured to suit a vast range of applications. In fact, if you are working on a project involving products such as a bi-fold door, a sliding door or vertically sliding sash, integral blinds are not only feasible, but they are actually the only viable privacy and shading solution that will maximise homeowner satisfaction.
Triple glazing can feature integral blinds too – they are as compatible with triple glazed units as they are with double glazing. As long as your IGU has a minimum cavity width of 16mm available and is sized within the blind system’s specific feasibility – the minimum and maximum height and width – an integral blind can be fitted into it.
Perfect for bi-folds and sliding doors
Integral blinds work better than any other type of privacy and shading system in bi-folding doors because they allow the multiple door sashes to concertina properly – nothing gets in the way.

As the main Venetian or pleated blind in an integral blind unit is contained within the IGU, leaving just a slim operating mechanism positioned on the face of the glass, the doors can be folded back neatly to create the full opening. Integral blinds, therefore, have the major benefit of allowing each sash to stack neatly at the side in a flush fashion – exactly as they were designed to do.
Integral blinds are also ideal for sliding doors because the blind moves with the door. With widths of up to 1.5m possible with 20mm Venetian UniBlinds® systems and up to 1.2m for integral blinds created using the slimline SL16 system, they are an option for the majority of sliding door projects.

A slick, slim solution for vertical sliders
Integral blinds are also an excellent solution for vertically sliding sash windows, because they are clean and don’t interfere with smooth opening and closing. As the IGUs in modern VS windows are normally designed to accommodate a 24mm wide IGU, the Uni-Blinds® SL16
slimline Venetian integral blind provides a solution. With this system, each individual sash is fitted with an integrated blind that can be controlled by a cord-pull, a magnetic slider or electronically thanks to the recent introduction of our SL16 MB brushless motorised system.
Raked, shaped and apex windows for gable ends
As every Uni-Blinds® integral blind is made-to-order, it may also be possible to create Venetian blinds to fit inside shaped IGUs typically needed for apex windows in glazed gable ends, or high level windows in extensions featuring a sloping roof. Subject to a feasibility assessment first, these can be manufactured with a traditional cord-pull, rotational knob control or wands for easy reach.
A hassle-free blind for tilt & turn windows
For the same reasons as bi-fold doors, integral blinds are well-suited to tilt and turn windows because they do not interfere with the inward opening function of these windows. Blinds and curtains hanging from the window reveal or wall mountings may restrict this functionality, whereas integral blinds are neatly contained, moving with the sash. www. morleyglass.co.uk

Overheating is already reshaping UK homes and external shading must be part of the answer believes Stuart Dantzic of Caribbean Blinds
A straightforward way to help homes stay cooler

The Weather-Ready Homes Report published recently by Westminster City Council is a timely reminder that overheating is no longer a future concern for UK homes. It is here now, and it is affecting people in houses, flats and office spaces in a way that is becoming harder to ignore. For those of us working in the shading sector, the report is welcome because it does not treat heat as a narrow comfort issue. In fact, it examines it as part of a wider task: making homes safer, healthier and more resilient.
Dealing with solar gain
One of the report’s strongest messages is simple: if we want to keep homes cooler, we should stop heat getting in at the first point of contact. That means dealing with solar gain at the window, not after it has already entered the room. Too often, the default response is to close curtains, buy a fan or install air conditioning. Those steps may have their place, but they are not the starting point. They use more energy, cost more to run and do not tackle the cause of the problem.
This is where external blinds make total sense. By shading the glass from the outside, they can block much of the sun’s heat before
it enters the building. That makes them a practical, low-energy and low-carbon answer to summer overheating. They also work quietly in the background, which is often the mark of a good building solution.
The report is also helpful in the way it frames the wider retrofit debate. It acknowledges that homes vary, that flats and houses face different risks and that heritage buildings need careful, thoughtful solutions.
In our experience external shading should not be seen as an afterthought or a compromise. In most cases it is the right answer precisely because it is discreet, effective and can be designed to suit the building. Done well, it sits comfortably alongside good glazing, ventilation and sensible fabric upgrades.
External blinds and awnings are not a new idea. They were once a familiar part of British streets, especially on shopfronts in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, long before air conditioning and cheap energy changed the way we thought about cooling. We have, in a sense, already known this for generations. The task now is to bring that practical thinking back into modern homes and modern design.
At Caribbean, we see this not as a sales point but as a design point. We produced
our White Paper last year because we felt the public debate around overheating was missing something important: a clear understanding of how much difference external shading can make. The record hot summer of 2025 only underlined that need. People are worried about overheating, yet many do not yet realise how much of the problem starts with the lack of shading. That awareness gap matters, because it means homes are being cooled the hard way, and often too late.
Shift in thinking,
If the Weather-Ready Homes report helps to shift that thinking, then it will have done a valuable service. It encourages a more measured response to a growing problem, reminding us that resilience is about making better choices before the heat arrives. External blinds are part of that choice. They are sensible, durable, economical to run and far kinder to the environment than a heavier reliance on mechanical cooling.
As summers grow hotter, we should be totally realistic about the role of external solar shading. It is not a luxury and it is not a niche product. It is a straightforward way to help homes stay cooler, more comfortable and better prepared for the years ahead.

Sliding doors are taking the lead, and primePort AS is built for the opportunity. Windows Active takes a closer look
Sliding doors are now taking the lead
For many years, bifold doors dominated the conversation around large openings, garden rooms, and modern extensions. But the market is changing. Homeowners are increasingly looking towards sliding doors for cleaner sightlines, smooth operation, space saving design, and ability to maximise natural light.
This shift matters for fabricators, installers, and specifiers. Sliding doors are no longer just an alternative to bifolds. They are becoming a preferred choice for many modern homes, apartment schemes, and commercial applications, particularly where space, views, and everyday usability are key priorities. This makes the primePort range especially relevant. Designed for use across timber, aluminium, and PVC-U systems, primePort provides a family of high performance sliding solutions that help the market respond to changing demand with confidence.
At the centre of this opportunity is primePort AS, a retract slide system developed for projects where performance, aesthetics, and efficient use of space all need to work together.
The appeal of sliding doors is easy to understand from a homeowner’s perspective. They offer large glazed areas, uninterrupted views, and do not require the same internal or external swing space as other door styles. In real homes, that means more flexible furniture layouts, easier movement between inside and outside, and a cleaner architectural finish.

primePort AS supports this preference with a retract slide mechanism that pulls the sash away from the frame before sliding. Helping deliver smooth operation, strong sealing performance, and a flush appearance when closed. It makes the system particularly well suited to balcony doors, apartments, urban homes, exposed elevations, and commercial buildings where space is limited but performance expectations remain high.
For the end user, the benefit is simple. The door works around the space, rather than taking space away from it. For specifiers, that supports more practical layouts and more usable interiors. For fabricators and installers, it provides a high quality sliding system that helps meet demand without compromising on reliability, weather performance, or security.
Key advantages of primePort AS include sash weights up to 250kg, strong wind load resistance, reliable weather performance, activPilot central locking technology, concealed hardware for a cleaner appearance, and optional Soft Close and Safety Stop for added comfort and safety. These features make it a strong choice for projects where the finished door must look refined, operate smoothly, and perform consistently over time.
Its concealed components also support the growing demand for minimal visible hardware. As homeowners continue to favour simpler, more contemporary design, this cleaner appearance can help fabricators
and installers offer a more premium sliding door solution.
While primePort AS is a strong fit for today’s market, it also sits within the wider primePort family. primePort SK offers tilt and slide and parallel action slide options, while primePort HS provides a lift and slide solution for large format glazing and wide openings. Together, the range gives fabricators flexibility across different project types, while maintaining the benefits of a coherent system family.
For fabricators, the advantages go beyond product performance. primePort has been developed with compatibility and efficiency in mind, including shared component design across the range, suitability for aluminium, timber, and UPVC profiles, and a choice of seven modern hardware colours, including anthracite, titanium, and deep black.
The preference for sliding doors reflects how people want homes and buildings to work: more light, better views, smoother movement, cleaner lines, and more usable space. With primePort AS, Winkhaus provides a retract slide solution designed for exactly that opportunity, combining the space saving appeal of sliding doors with proven performance, concealed hardware, and trusted Winkhaus locking technology. As sliding doors continue to take the lead, primePort AS gives fabricators, installers, and specifiers a fitting system built to move with the market.

Smart window and door hardware is transforming installer and fabricator sales, says Safeware’s Charlotte Maynard-Keene
Smart hardware gives installers the edge
In a competitive market where many window and door products can appear similar, finding meaningful points of differentiation has never been more important. Charlotte MaynardKeene, Business Development Manager at Safeware, discusses why smart window and door hardware is becoming an increasingly valuable selling tool for installers and fabricators.
The window and door industry has always evolved to meet changing homeowner expectations. We’ve seen advances in thermal efficiency, security, aesthetics and sustainability become key selling points over the years. Today, however, I believe we’re witnessing another shift as consumers increasingly embrace smart technology throughout their homes.
From smart heating and lighting to security cameras, video doorbells and connected appliances, homeowners have become accustomed to technology that provides greater convenience, visibility and peace of mind. As a result, they are increasingly open to the benefits that
connected window and door technology can offer.
For installers, this presents a valuable opportunity.
The reality is that many homeowners struggle to distinguish between competing window and door products. Security, energy efficiency and aesthetics are all important, but they are also expected as standard. In a crowded market, it can sometimes be difficult to demonstrate why one product or installation company stands apart from another. But offering smart hardware changes that conversation.
Rather than simply talking about what a window or door does, installers can demonstrate what it tells the homeowner. That creates a far more engaging and memorable sales proposition.
Changing the conversation
Having spent many years working within the smart home sector, I’ve seen first-hand how technology can transform a sales conversation. Consumers immediately understand the value of being connected to their homes and appreciate the reassurance that comes from receiving notifications and monitoring the status of their property, whether they are at home or away.

While smart technology has become commonplace elsewhere in the home, adoption within the window and door sector has been more considered. However, I believe that presents an opportunity rather than a challenge.
Those businesses that embrace smart hardware now have the chance to establish a genuine point of difference before the technology becomes more widely adopted. As awareness continues to grow, I expect demand for connected windows and doors to follow.
At Safeware, we recognised this potential early, which is why we became Yale’s launch partner for SensCheck™. The system provides homeowners with real-time status updates on their windows and doors, delivering the visibility and reassurance that modern consumers increasingly value.

For installers, this creates a compelling additional selling point. Rather than competing solely on price or product specification, they can offer something that enhances the customer experience long after installation is complete, helping shift the focus from cost to value.
The benefits are equally important for fabricators. By offering smart-enabled windows and doors, they can give their installer customers a valuable differentiator. When margins remain under pressure and competition is fierce, anything that helps customers stand out holds real value.
Whilst SensCheck™ was initially launched for PVC-U systems and composite doors, it will soon be available on Stellar Aluminium. This industryfirst development will give aluminium fabricators the same opportunity to offer connected technology within a premium aluminium system.
The introduction of SensCheck™ on Stellar means fabricators and installers can bring smart technology to a wider range of projects while further strengthening their market proposition.
For me, smart hardware is far more than the technology itself. It’s about giving installers a stronger story to tell, helping fabricators create additional value and providing homeowners with greater confidence in their homes. And in today’s market, that’s a smart advantage to have. https://safewarehardware.com/

Here, Window Ware Managing Director Sam Nuckey discusses why reliability and trusted partnerships are vital in a challenging market
Reliability wins in tough market conditions
It’s no secret that the market has been a tough place for the last few years. Even households with healthy savings levels have been spending with caution and opting for experiences over big-ticket improvements like new windows and doors.
With nowhere to go during the Covid years and more cash in the bank as a result, home improvements made perfect sense. Since then, there’s been a clear shift in mindset and people want to go places, see people, and enjoy time away from home.
And yet, despite this, Window Ware has held its ground. We’re broadly on par with last year’s performance, which is hugely positive because we know the market itself is down. That means we’ve consistently outperformed the current market.
Yes, we’ve felt the fluctuations just like everyone else; one month looks positive, the next dips unexpectedly. But overall, we’ve kept a steady course. And when reflecting on what’s helped us weather the storm, we’ve learned that reliability and relationships matter more than ever.

becomes a differentiator, not a given. Fabricators need reliable component suppliers, partners who’ll deliver what was promised and solve problems when they arise. That’s what we focus on at Window Ware. It’s not just about having the parts on the shelf, it’s about how we support our customers through the entire process. We’ve spoken a lot recently about the ‘Window Ware difference.’ After nearly 40 years in this industry, we’ve built our reputation on being a reliable supplier. Our customers know we offer a range of more than 5,000 products from more than 90 of the industry’s leading brands, not to mention our in-demand own-brand solutions like Regal Hardware and Xpert tools. This isn’t just convenience, it’s about enabling our customers to streamline procurement.
demand; it comes from taking market share. For our customers to do that, they need us to be on point all the time. Reliability isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s critical to keeping their production lines moving and their businesses growing.
And we don’t take that responsibility lightly.
From clear service-level KPIs to a knowledgeable and experienced sales and technical team that knows the hardware we supply inside and out, our goal is to be more than just another supplier; we want to be a trusted extension of our customers’ businesses.
When times are tough, the companies that survive and thrive are the ones that can still count on their supply chain. That’s what we’ve aimed to be for our customers, and I believe it’s why we’ve been able to hold firm, even as the wider market softens.
When markets tighten and spending slows, people buy from people and trust
But even more than that, it’s our service that sets us apart. We started 2026 as we mean to go on for customers by posting a 98.9% OTIF for January, so our customers can plan their production with total confidence, while currently our team is picking nearly 1,000 lines every day.
Growth doesn’t come from increased
The road ahead may still have many bumps, but at Window Ware, we’re staying the course and doing what we’ve always done best: supporting our customers with consistency and service they can count on.
Because our reputation, and your results, depend on our quality as a hardware supplier.

Coastal Group named exclusive hardware supplier for Hansen Millennium windows, setting a new benchmark in premium hardware
Strategic partnership for premium hardware
Coastal Group, a leading designer and manufacturer of high-end door and window hardware, and Hansen Products, Northern Europe’s foremost independent fenestration specialist, today announced a strategic partnership that will see Coastal become the exclusive hardware supplier for Hansen’s flagship Millennium window range.
The partnership brings together two companies with a shared commitment to precision engineering, premium aesthetics and long-term performance – delivering a complete, fully integrated solution to architects, developers and contractors operating at the top end of the market.
A perfect match for the Hansen Millennium
The Hansen Millennium is renowned across the industry for its ultra-slim profiles, which maximise natural light and open up interior spaces in contemporary architecture, while also enabling the precise arched detailing demanded by sensitive heritage and renovation projects. The range sets a new benchmark for customers who are looking for quality, performance and a way to stand out.
Coastal’s hardware has been selected to complement that exacting standard, with three distinctive hardware lines – Classic, Modern, and Timeless – now available across the Millennium range.
Each line is offered in three refined finishes: Black, Satin Stainless Steel, and PVD Stainless Satin Brass, allowing specifiers to achieve a matching coordinated design across every project.
For bespoke specifications, custom powder coating is available to match hardware precisely to individual window constructions. To support partners in making confident product selections, professional sample kits are being made available, ensuring quality can be assessed firsthand.
“At Coastal, we have always believed that great hardware is the final detail that transforms a good window into an exceptional one,” explained Loren Jenner, Coastal Group’s Managing Director. “Hansen Products shares that philosophy entirely. The Millennium range represents exactly the kind of precision engineering that our hardware is designed to complement, and we are proud to be part of a partnership that will set a new standard for what premium fenestration looks and feels like. We look

forward to bringing this collaboration to the wider market and continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible.”
“Premium quality is defined by every detail, and the hardware on a window is no exception,” said Marcin Banak, Hansen Products. “Coastal brings exactly the rigour, durability and design sensibility that the Millennium deserves. This partnership allows us to deliver a truly complete, endto-end premium solution to our clients, one that performs as beautifully as it looks, from the profile to the handle. We are excited about what this means for customers and for the wider market.”

Karen Nelson, business development manager at HOPPE (UK), explains how customer collaboration drives the company’s success
Solving challenges through partnership
In the door and hardware sector, the most effective solutions rarely come from a catalogue alone. They come from conversation and a clear understanding of what a customer is wanting to achieve and a willingness to work through challenges together. Karen Nelson, business development manager at HOPPE (UK), details the company’s approach to customer collaboration, with insight from Robust’s commercial director Paul Williams.

For HOPPE, success is not simply about supplying hardware. It is about listening to customer needs, applying technical expertise and helping customers reach the right outcome for their market.
Its long-standing relationship with steel door manufacturer Robust UK shows that approach in action.
Over the past decade, the two companies have developed a partnership built on trust, continuity and a detailed understanding of each business.
Collaborative testing
That depth of knowledge matters when a new requirement emerges. Robust recently identified a need for a cost-effective PAS 24-compliant panic exit hardware solution for its single and double steel security doors.
The collaborative process began with exploratory testing using standard panic hardware from ARRONE, a HOPPE brand, and a typical door from Robust. This provided a benchmark and helped the team better understand the test itself. The early result provided valuable insight and was a crucial stage in development to help shape the solution required.
As Paul Williams, commercial director at Robust, explains: “Both sides needed a clear understanding of the project goals and the flexibility to adapt their part of the solution to achieve them.”
Sharing engineering insight
Dan Savage, product engineer at HOPPE, played a central role in that development journey.
His involvement spanned research, design and testing, giving the project a more streamlined path from concept to refinement. HOPPE invested in additional test equipment so it could build its own
testing capability further, carry out more indicative work in-house and go into third-party testing with greater confidence.
From Robust’s perspective, that practical support was important.
Paul added: “HOPPE took the lead in arranging early test fitting and indicative testing of the new SECURDOR 2.1, helping to prove the approach before Robust committed it to a full-scale test programme.”
All of that speaks to one of the biggest strengths HOPPE brings to customer relationships, which is practical support backed by technical expertise. Huge investment is made in training to help staff achieve the widely respected qualifications from the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI).
A partnership for the future
In the case of Robust, the relationship already had strong foundations. Years of liaison with the same team have created familiarity, responsiveness and mutual confidence.

Paul said: “HOPPE has demonstrated over time that it understands the Robust business, its product requirements and where value can be engineered into a solution without compromising quality.
“This strengthened partnership sets the scene for future collaboration and a better understanding of how to define the initial specification at the outset of a development project.”
Partnerships like this bolster HOPPE’s position, not just as a supplier, but as a responsive, solution-led partner with the engineering flexibility to tackle new challenges.
The relationship with Robust reflects a mindset that HOPPE wants to bring to customer partnerships more broadly.
It is a mindset built around listening first,
staying engaged and being open to new ideas. Not every project follows a straight line. But when both sides are prepared to share expertise, work through obstacles and keep sight of the end goal, the result is often better than either could achieve alone.
The value of partnership
In a market shaped by regulation, performance demands and commercial pressure, that kind of partnership has real value. The relationship between HOPPE and Robust shows that finding the right solution is not about forcing a standard answer. It is about understanding the challenge, bringing the right knowledge to the table, and working together to achieve the best possible outcome.

Meeting PAS 24 means every doorset component must work together to deliver proven security under real-world test conditions
Secure doorsets need integrated hardware
For door manufacturers and specifiers, PAS 24 is now a baseline requirement rather than a box to tick. It is the benchmark used to demonstrate that a doorset can withstand opportunistic and forced-entry attacks seen across the UK. As a system-level standard, compliance depends on how every component performs together within the complete doorset.
PAS 24 assesses resistance to the types of low-skill attacks typically used by opportunistic intruders, which can still be effective where weak points exist. Unlike component-level standards, it evaluates the combined performance of hardware, glazing, locks and accessories, meaning a failure in any single part can result in the entire doorset failing the test. This makes hardware selection critical for manufacturers and specifiers, who must ensure every element is both robust in isolation and compatible within a tested configuration.
Understanding PAS 24
Adam Dixon, Senior Technical Manager, said: “PAS 24 assesses the performance of the entire doorset under simulated attack conditions, so every component must function as part of a cohesive system. Multipoint locks, cylinders and letterplates all need to maintain structural integrity and resist manipulation without creating weak points. Our approach is to engineer hardware that works together to deliver consistent, repeatable performance in PAS 24 testing.”
At the centre of any secure doorset is the locking system. Fullex’s multipoint locks are engineered to deliver strong performance across multiple attack points, helping to reinforce the overall security of the door. By distributing locking force across several positions along the frame, multipoint locks increase resistance to forced entry. Features such as opposing hooks, anti-lift bolts and reinforced keeps are designed to strengthen protection during the physical attack elements of PAS 24 testing.
long-term reliability in mind, supporting consistent operation under demanding test conditions.
Alongside the locking system, the cylinder plays a key role in both security and operational reliability. UAP’s Freezeguard 3 Star cylinder is designed to perform in challenging environmental conditions, helping to ensure doorsets remain functional even in extreme cold. Within a PAS 24-compliant doorset, that consistency matters because the cylinder must not only resist attack but also maintain usability during testing and in day-to-day use. By combining enhanced security credentials with durability and resilience, the Freezeguard cylinder supports the wider integrity of the doorset and helps prevent environmental conditions from undermining performance.

specified auxiliary component elsewhere in the system.

element, even if they are often overlooked in the wider security discussion. In residential doors, they can represent a common point of vulnerability.
PAS 24 specifically evaluates whether intruders can exploit openings such as letterplates
Beyond locks, cylinders and letterplates, PAS 24 compliance depends on a broader ecosystem of supporting hardware. UAP’s wider portfolio includes high-security escutcheons, door handles engineered for durability, cylinders and masterkey systems, door viewers and door chains. Each of these products contributes to the overall performance of the doorset. Security escutcheons, for example, help protect cylinders from attack, while reinforced handles are designed to resist attempts to compromise access points.
Many UAP products are also accredited by recognised schemes such as Secured by Design and BSI Kitemark, offering further assurance around quality and performance.
These locks must also prove durable as well as secure. PAS 24 includes repeated mechanical operations alongside attack simulations, which means locking systems must maintain performance throughout the process. Fullex locks are designed with
certification relates to enhanced security standards developed to resist manipulation techniques such the letterplate aperture. When used within a PAS 24-compliant doorset, these letterplates are intended to provide resistance against intrusion attempts through the opening, robust construction to withstand physical attack and compatibility with both fire-rated and security-rated door systems.
UAP’s range also includes TS008 firerated letterplates, allowing manufacturers to address security and fire performance requirements within a single solution. That matters because PAS 24 assesses the doorset as a whole. Even a high-performing lock can be undermined by a weak or poorly
For door manufacturers, one of the biggest challenges is achieving PAS 24 compliance at the first attempt. A failed test can lead to additional costs, delays and reputational damage. UAP’s approach is to work closely with manufacturers to specify complete hardware packages that have already undergone extensive testing and validation.
By combining proven components such as multipoint locks, TS008 letterplates, Freezeguard cylinders and compatible accessories, UAP aims to reduce the risk of failure and streamline the route to certification. The approach ensures every element works as part of a fully tested doorset system designed to meet PAS 24 requirements consistently.

Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens, Deputy CEO of the Door & Hardware Federation reflects
on building safety progress nine years after Grenfell
Compliance must be ongoing
Nine years on from the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has reflected on the changes that have taken place across the construction and built environment sectors, while highlighting the continued work needed to improve building safety standards across the UK.
The Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017 claimed 72 lives and exposed serious failings across parts of the construction, product testing and regulatory system. On 19th May 2026, the BBC reported that police and prosecutors are considering potential criminal charges against up to 57 individuals and 20 organisations connected to the disaster. Possible offences include gross negligence manslaughter, corporate manslaughter, fraud and breaches of health and safety legislation. The report also highlighted findings from the Grenfell Inquiry, which identified failures in oversight, testing, accountability and product information across parts of the sector.
Regulatory and cultural change
Since the tragedy, the construction and built environment industries have undergone significant regulatory and cultural change, with a stronger focus on accountability, competence, compliance, product information and resident safety. The Building Safety Act has reshaped responsibilities across the sector, placing greater accountability on clients, designers, contractors and those responsible for managing higher risk buildings.
The Building Safety Regulator has introduced stronger oversight and enforcement powers, alongside increased emphasis on maintaining accurate building information throughout a building’s lifecycle through the golden thread approach. There is also greater scrutiny of construction products, including testing, certification, traceability and ongoing compliance. In addition, there is wider recognition that product performance must be supported by competent installation, maintenance and inspection.
“The Grenfell tragedy changed the conversation around building safety,” explains DHF’s Deputy CEO, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens. “The Inquiry findings and the recent developments regarding

potential criminal charges reinforce the importance of accountability, transparency and competence across the entire supply chain. One of the clearest lessons from Grenfell is that safety cannot depend on assumptions or uneven responsibility. Everyone involved has an important role to play in ensuring products are correctly specified, tested, installed and maintained.”
DHF continues to work with government departments, regulators, certification bodies and industry stakeholders to support the implementation of ongoing reforms.
The Federation has submitted feedback to the Government’s consultation on Construction Products Reform and continues to engage with proposals linked to the Building Safety Regulator and wider product reform programmes. DHF is also preparing comments on BS 8670-2 and gathering feedback from members to inform its response. The proposed reforms represent one of the most significant changes to construction product regulation in decades. Current proposals place greater emphasis on product traceability, accurate product information, digital record keeping, testing, certification and accountability throughout the supply chain.
“We are seeing a much greater
focus on evidence-based compliance, product traceability and demonstrable competence across the sector,” continues Patricia. “There is also increased demand for third-party certification, audited processes and stronger quality assurance. Organisations are expected to demonstrate clear systems for risk management, training and ongoing monitoring.”
Supporting
members
With its regulatory engagement work, DHF is also continuing to support members through technical guidance, training programmes and competency development initiatives. This summer, the Federation will launch its newABBE Level 2 Certificate in Core Competencies: Understanding Building Hardware
. The programme has been designed to address knowledge gaps and improve technical understanding and compliance awareness relating to building hardware products. DHF has also contributed to the development of competence frameworks covering the installation of metal doorsets, industrial doors and shutters, and automated gates. These frameworks help define the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for safe and compliant installation.
“Competence is now central to regulatory expectations across the built environment,” concludes Patricia. “Compliance must be ongoing, evidencebased and supported by properly trained people throughout the supply chain. DHF remains fully committed to supporting the industry through guidance, training, technical leadership and competency development to help create safer buildings for everyone.”

Jon Crohill reveals why Sheerline’s S1 roof lantern remains unmatched, five years on, with effortless elegance and enduring performance
Celebrating five years of the S1 Roof Lantern

At the time of writing, it’s July and although many people are turning their thoughts to upcoming summer holidays and staying cool during the heatwaves we’re experiencing, one of the things I’m thinking about is our S1 Roof Lantern turning five.
This has, of course, led me down a rabbit hole where I’ve been contemplating what’s changed over the past five years, and indeed, what hasn’t. Not just in terms of the S1, but the industry in general.
The S1 Roof Lantern
At Sheerline we’re committed to continual improvement. This isn’t just in terms of our products or technical updates, but across our processes, production, and specialist services. It enhances our offering and ensures our customers remain at the forefront of everything we do.
In terms of the S1, we’ve made some updates over the past five years.
Aside from the 3-way option that enables installers to create larger spans without the use of jack rafters, we offer an enhanced security upgrade that makes the S1 the most secure lantern on the market today.
We launched SheerVent® – our intelligent ventilation system in 2023. One of the standout features is the fact it sits flush with the frame. Anyone who knows anything about lantern ventilation knows it has historically been an afterthought. It often looked like a window had been
cut out and stuck on top of a lantern. There was zero refinement or attention to the kinds of details that matter to homeowners, installers, and fabricators. SheerVent® has redefined roof lantern ventilation.
Redefining roof lantern ventilation
It’s sleek, sits flush with the profile, is 100% colour matched, and automated using powered actuators. It can be enhanced with the addition of a discreet rain sensor. And something that elevates the product even further is the fact it can be retrofitted to existing installations.
While we’ve launched enhancements that make a real difference, one important fact is the fundamentals of the S1 haven’t changed. For example, the chassis has remained the same, we haven’t had to reduce the weight or refine the aesthetics to keep pace with industry trends.
Five years on, it still looks modern, sleek, and contemporary without compromising on performance. This is testament to the initial design, which has not only stood the test of time, but has arguably inspired change within the industry.
Industry changes and challenges
Looking ahead, big changes are coming, and it will be interesting to see how other systems houses react. At Sheerline, we pride ourselves on crafting future-proofed products that genuinely combine beautiful aesthetics with practical solutions.
But looking back, in some respects, a lot has changed, and in others, nothing has. Many systems houses now offer a lantern product, which I’d argue reflects how desirable they’ve become, partly because of demand from homeowners.
A key change is the way in which competitor lanterns have changed after taking design cues from the S1. This is reflected in the slimmer aesthetics and the way the top caps have changed over time, for example. It’s great to see the S1 inspiring change!
Of course, the trend for refined aesthetics has had a bigger impact on the roofing market as it is driving homeowners away from the look offered by conservatories in the 80s and 90s. For instance, this is reflected in the rise of the single storey extension.
When homeowners weigh up the total cost of moving house – this includes stamp duty and unpredictable mortgage interest rates alongside the increased cost of living, it’s no surprise many people are opting to renovate.
And single storey extensions pair perfectly with roof lanterns because they increase natural light and add a sense of space.
I look forward to another five years of the S1 – seeing how it inspires change and holds its own in an increasingly competitive space, particularly within the context of an everevolving industry.

Keylite Roof Windows expands flat roof horizons with Whitesales integration and high-performance lanterns and rooflights
Widening its outlook on the flat roof market
For an industry built around light, the flat roof sector has often been shaped as much by complexity as by opportunity. Architects want clean lines and better daylight. Housebuilders need speed, compliance and reliable supply. Homeowners, increasingly, want the extension to feel less like an add-on and more like the best room in the house.
Keylite Roof Windows is now trying to bring those requirements together under one roof, following the formal integration of the flat roof product range it acquired from Whitesales Ltd. The move gives the company a significantly broader presence in the UK construction market and marks a clear statement of intent in a category that continues to benefit from demand for glazed extensions, single-storey living spaces and improved natural light.
Refined for residential housebuilding
The newly launched Flat Roof Solutions brochure sets out the expanded offer for architects, specifiers, housebuilders and merchants, bringing established Whitesales lines into the Keylite portfolio. Chief among them is the em.glaze range, including the em.glaze Resi, previously known as the Select Flat Glass Rooflight, which has been refined for residential housebuilding and self-build projects.
Other products now sitting within the Keylite range include em.glaze Premium, ray.lux flat glass, em.dome polycarbonate systems and the Sun Lite Tube System. Together, they give the manufacturer a wider platform in both residential and commercial daylighting, while also simplifying the route to specification for those who want a single supplier.
The most visually striking part of the launch is the em.glaze Lantern, which Keylite is positioning as a premium product for larger daylighting applications. Designed

mainly for flat roof extensions, the lantern is intended to turn darker interiors into brighter living spaces, without compromising on the slim sight lines now expected in contemporary projects.
Its aluminium frame is thermally broken and measures just 55mm wide, while 38mm internal rafters are used to maximise light penetration. The system is available in six standard sizes, up to 3000 x 3200mm, giving designers and installers scope to use it across a range of extension formats.
Performance has been given equal weight. The em.glaze Lantern achieves U-values of 1.2W/m².K and has been engineered to reduce the risk of cold bridging through isolated internal and external profiles. Glazing options include clear or blue solar-control self-cleaning glass, allowing products to be matched to project requirements and homeowner expectations.
Safety is also central to the offer. Across the em.glaze range, toughened outer panes and laminated inner panes are supplied as standard, a specification Keylite describes as the safest choice for overhead glazing. The products are designed to support compliance with Parts L and B of the building regulations, helped by options including a pre-built timber upstand with a 5° pitch and
PVC-U kerbs for compliant installation.
To make the process more straightforward, Keylite has also introduced RUFUS, an online product configurator accessible through the new brochure. It allows users to configure products, generate prices and place orders instantly.
Complete flat roof proposition
Colin Wells, Head of Technical at Keylite, said the expanded range gives the company a more complete flat roof proposition. “Whether it’s supporting merchants, housebuilders, or architects, we want to make it easier to specify compliant solutions from one supplier,” he said.
Ross Telford, Head of Marketing at Keylite Roof Windows, added: “Our new Flat Roof Solutions brochure has been designed to give customers a clear and accessible overview of the full range, with detailed technical information, specification guidance and compliance support all in one place.”
All products in the new flat roof range, including lanterns and former Whitesales glass units, are supplied with a 10-year warranty on glazing and powder coating.

Rishton Glass expands living space with Sheerline’s bespoke roof

Rishton Glass and Windows completed a transformative conservatory extension in the Ribble Valley in Lancashire, using Sheerline Bespoke’s S2 conservatory roof system to overcome structural challenges and deliver a high-performance, modern living space.
The project involved removing a small, conservatory featuring an ageing roof and PVC frames, replacing it with a much larger, hipped lean-to design in foil grey.
The new installation incorporates high-performance solar control roof glass and a double glazing bar with an integrated screen to conceal an internal partition wall, creating two distinct yet cohesive spaces.
Director Steve Keenan explained the brief: “This was for a regular customer who had bought the neighbouring cottage and wanted to extend both properties into one usable space, while keeping separate areas. The original conservatory was too small and wasn’t being used properly, so the aim was to create something bigger, brighter and far more practical and increase the roof pitch.”
Given the complexities of the property, including random stone walls, an outof-square structure, a soil pipe and the requirement to increase the roof pitch, Rishton Glass turned to Sheerline Bespoke for expert survey support, with Chris Cooke, the Commercial Director, providing detailed survey assistance to ensure accuracy from the outset. “On projects like this, getting the survey right is everything,” said Steve. “Chris came out, helped measure up and made sure we had a solution for every obstacle. His

experience means we’ve yet to come across a job we can’t make work with his input.”
Rishton Glass has used the S2 system on previous installations, and Steve cites its simplicity and reliability as key advantages.
“The S2 is very straightforward to install,” he said. “The instructions are clear, and the detailed plans show exactly where everything goes. That makes a huge difference on site. If we ever need anything, it’s just a quick call or email to Chris and it’s sorted straight away.”
Thanks to the thorough preparation and installer-friendly design of the S2 system, the entire installation was completed in just four days by Steve and his team.
“The speed of install was excellent, and that comes down to both the product and the support behind it,” Steve added. “The
customer was absolutely over the moon with the end result, and it’s completely transformed how they use the space.”
For Chris Cooke, the project highlights the importance of collaboration. “This was a complex property, but by working closely with Steve and his team from the survey stage, we were able to deliver a solution that met both the structural challenges and the homeowner’s vision. The finished result speaks for itself.”
Steve is clear about the value of the ongoing partnership. “We’ve worked with Sheerline Bespoke for a long time now, and we won’t go anywhere else. The products are excellent, and the support from Chris and the team makes every project easier.”

Specialising in in-house manufacturing with an emphasis on quality control and independent testing, the company supports window installers and homebuilders across the UK, as well as its host of merchant partners, with a product portfolio built around its flagship sliding sash windows.
Crucial to its continued growth is the relationships the West Yorkshire business has built with its suppliers, based on high quality service and commercial understanding, as well as industry leading products.
By building relationships with suppliers who share Quickslide’s ethos, the company has seen continued and consistent growth since its launch in 2004.
One such supplier is ERA, a leading fenestration manufacturer based in the West Midlands, with over 185 years of

manufacturing, design and innovation experience.
ERA, now part of Quanex Hardware Solutions, is a leader in the development and distribution of hardware and security solutions for the residential building and home improvement markets, with extensive knowledge and experience in delivering security solutions for windows and doors.
The business moved to a world-class purpose-built 135,000 sq. ft headquarters at the prestigious i54 site in Wolverhampton in 2017, housing state-of-the-art manufacturing, R&D, product development, test, and training facilities.
Their relationship with Quickslide now dates back 15 years, with ERA’s UK manufactured vertical sliding sash balance range at the heart of product investment over this period.
Quickslide’s sliding sash windows are its flagship product, utilising ERA’s F and K spiral balances. The combination of a stainless steel spiral rod, torsion spring and tension spring produces a self-contained balancing device capable of maintaining the sash window in equilibrium at any point in its travel.
Outside of product performance, Quickslide Managing Director Ben Weber, who has been with the company since its inception, values ERA’s support towards achieving and maintaining manufacturing lead times, as well as their role in driving new product development.
Over the past six months, ERA has supplied more than 50 hardware display units to some of Quickslide’s key trade partners, adding value and supporting strong customer retention levels.
Ben said: “Our strength as a business comes from our culture - we’re driven and committed to continuous improvement across everything we do, all with the aim of delivering better products and service
for our customers. That mindset naturally extends to our supply chain.
“We’ve worked with ERA for around 15 years, and that relationship has been built on consistency and a shared understanding of what good looks like in manufacturing. It’s never been a passive supplier arrangement – it’s a working partnership where both sides challenge, support and push for better results.
“We’re ambitious and are growing year on year – I think ERA’s size, history and reputation hold them in good stead.”
The relationship between the two companies has grown over the years, with Quickslide centralising product purchasing where possible. Alongside balances, ERA’s sash window furniture range is now used across Quickslide’s flagship Legacy Sash Windows.
The Fab&Fix VS hardware range has been specifically designed for sash windows, offering a premium suite of hardware that combines lasting durability with a wide choice of styles and finishes, from classic to contemporary, all backed by ERA’s highest manufacturing standards. It is available in a wide range of distinctive finishes, including Hardex Gold, Pewter, Bronze, Chrome and Graphite, alongside more traditional colour options.
Protected by the renowned Hardex coating, Fab&Fix hardware is built to resist corrosion, fading and everyday wear, ensuring long-term aesthetic consistency across sash windows and the wider Fab&Fix range. For Quickslide, this delivers greater design versatility across its high-spec product portfolio, with a wide choice of finishes and styles to suit different window designs, all backed by ERA’s commitment to quality.
Marc Robinson, Technical Sales Manager at ERA, said: “We’re proud to support the growth of Quickslide, and their continued success is a testament to the team’s ambition and professionalism. ERA supports customers beyond product supply, aiming to be a trusted partner offering reliability, transparency and expertise. Whether contributing to discussions on legislation and testing or developing bespoke solutions where possible, we remain flexible and proactive.
“The future is exciting for Quickslide, and we’re delighted to be part of that.”

Discover why installers consistently choose Affordable Windows Group, where family values, trust and quality come first
Built on family values, trust and loyalty
When you partner with a supplier, you want more than just a quality product. You want a company that treats you well, knows you by name, and goes the extra mile when it matters. At AWG, the company behind popular heritage PVC-U range Timberlook, that commitment runs deep, and it starts with the people who work here.
“We genuinely care about the people we work with, whether they are part of our team or one of our installers,” says Amelia Gaughan, Head of Marketing for AWG. “That has always been at the core of who we are.”
A genuine family affair
Many businesses talk about having a “family feel”, but at AWG it is more than a phrase. Within the Affordable Windows Group there are generations of the same families working side by side.
Take Amelia Gaughan, who has been with AWG for over 17 years. Her father, Micky Gaughan, is a Director who has dedicated an incredible 46 years to the company. Amelia’s uncle, Eddie Gaughan, is AWG’s Managing Director and has been part of AWG for an astonishing 52 years.
“Growing up around the business and then joining it myself, I have seen first hand how much family means here,” Amelia explains. “The fact that we have so many families within AWG really showcases our approach to growth - no matter how large we get as a fabricator, we always strive to maintain that close-knit feel.”
The Gaughans are far from the only family within AWG’s walls. The Stanton family are also a big part of the company.
Director Nigel Stanton has been with AWG for 32 years, his wife Kate works in the PVC Production Office, their son Luke works in the factory, and Nigel’s brother Mark has served as a factory supervisor for 32 years. The Hoops are another family within AWG that spans generations, as Director Andy Hoop works alongside sons Jordan and Reece Hoop.

The company has numerous other father and son duos too, including Garry and Ollie Maddox, Daz and Adam Barrett, Phil and Theo Beardall, and Bryan and both Adrian and Marc Carney. There are mother and son pairings as well, such as Director Karen Mageean and her son Dan, Sales Manager, alongside Director Paula Cocker and her son Matt Diack.
Loyalty that speaks volumes
You can tell a lot about a company by how long its people choose to stay. “At AWG, many of our team have been with us for over a decade, and many have clocked up more than 30 years of service,” comments Amelia.
Beyond those already mentioned, this includes Director Karen Mageean (44 years), Director Paula Cocker (35 years),

Conservatory Manager
Bryan Carney (39 years), Director Phil Myers (35 years), and Director Andy Hoop (38 years).
“When people stay for 30, 40, or even 50 years, it tells you something real about the company,” says Amelia. “Our team are loyal because they feel valued, and that loyalty flows straight through to the service our installers receive.”
This level of staff retention is rare in any industry. For installers, it means continuity and trust. “When you call AWG, you speak to the same familiar voices each time,” comments Gaughan. “There is no being passed from department to department or starting from scratch with someone new. Our installers get to speak to people who understand their business and remember their previous orders. It’s this personal touch that really makes a difference.”
Treating installers like family
That family spirit does not stop at the AWG front door, but instead extends to every installer the company works with.
“Our installers are an extension of our family,” Amelia says. “We know the market can be tough at times, so we do everything we can to support them. That includes our free in-house lead generation programme, which takes the legwork out of finding new customers. We’re always looking for ways to make our installers’ lives easier, whether that’s investing in vans to ensure speedy deliveries or developing answers to meet growing demand or trends.
“In the last couple of years, we’ve added a mechanical midrail to our Timberlook flush French doors, introduced a new smooth black shade, and developed our aluminium range Decorio, Timberlook’s sister-brand. All of these developments have our installers’ needs at the forefront.”
For AWG, it is clear that the goal is to always be more than a supplier. Relationships with installers have been built up over the decades, founded on trust and a genuine dedication to quality, as Amelia notes: “No matter how much we strive to grow and offer our installers the very best, we will never lose that family feel within AWG.”
True authenticity comes from a blend of heritage styling and modern performance.
Single features may grab attention, but a true heritage sash window is designed to ensure the seamless integration of all its parts.
Everything has to work together: slim overlapping putty-line profiles, a 35mm midrail, heritage chalk finishes, seamless ornate sash horns, true mechanical joints, deep cills and innovative balance chamber covers, to name but a few.
Add to that a 1.2 W/m2k u-value without specialist glass, and you have a true conservation-grade sash window with outstanding modern performance.
Only Roseview’s Ultimate Rose sash window delivers all this. Because it’s more than a sum of its parts.

Heritage properties need a future-focused approach, here’s why the industry must align on clearer, more consistent guidance
Rethinking guidance for heritage properties
If we’re going to take heritage properties into the future, the industry needs a more aligned approach to guidance. At Ventrolla, we believe heritage restoration should be guided by industry experts to ensure the right improvements are made for each property. Heritage and listed buildings hold key architectural and historical significance for the property sector and are protected by strict planning regulations that can restrict or challenge changes, more so when the property owner may not understand those regulations. This lack of understanding can create a huge stumbling block, especially given the UK has an enormous stock of period properties, the largest in the entirety of Europe. There are also more than 370,000 listed building entries on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE).
Planning officers and other professionals in the industry place stringent controls on the work that can be done to heritage and listed properties, as a way of preserving architectural integrity. Part of these restrictions is the need to obtain consent before undertaking any changes that may impact the overall character of the property, with windows falling under this remit. When it comes to heritage and listed properties, restoration or repair are the preferred options for works, as replacement is often not an option due to the listed ranking of the property.
Window restoration
options
On the surface, it may seem like there are limited options for restoration works on windows, but there are a number of enhancements that can take place to help improve the efficiency and overall feel of a heritage window. This could include glazing upgrades to heritage single glazing, vacuum glazing or even discreet secondary glazing, the implementation of new technology such as the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System and Sash Removal System and the restoration of wooden casings.
The main problem lies in the interpretation of guidance and regulations. A more unified approach to planning rules and regulations is needed, with guidance that is simple to read and interpret, ensuring both industry professionals and homeowners can move forward with improvements in an informed
way. Misconceptions can cause delays and frustration, especially when works that are approved in one region are then denied in another. Although this will require significant effort upfront, it would undoubtedly pay off in the long term when both industry professionals and the wider public know what to expect when looking to implement changes. Clearer, more consistent guidance would also support planning authorities by reducing the burden of repeated case-by-case interpretation.
On a wider scale, it is important to improve public education around conservation areas within the UK, which can often be overlooked in comparison to listed and heritage properties. These areas can require planning permission on a similar scale to heritage projects, which many owners do not realise. An awareness campaign, and aligned approach to conservation guidance, would help support the preservation of properties within these areas, preventing further degradation.
Need for consistency
A great example of works that followed guidance and met any restrictions is with Turnberry Lighthouse. The building faced dual pressures of age and exposure, with the existing windows deteriorating and no longer up to expectations. We initially restored and replaced six windows, including conservation-friendly doubleglazed sash units to improve performance while preserving the building’s character. Following the success of the first phase, we were recommissioned to complete the remaining 18 windows across the property.

works helps ensure heritage properties are not only respected but also remain viable places to live for years to come. In the face of ongoing energy challenges and climate targets, the preservation of these buildings through careful, considered performanceled upgrades can create a practical path forward. Heritage homes are there to be lived in and loved, and that should be possible without sacrificing either history or efficiency.
Another example is Canons Ashby House, a Grade I listed National Trust property in Northamptonshire. We were appointed to undertake the careful renovation of 16 original sash windows across the entire front elevation of the house. We were under very strict conservation guidelines and had to prioritise repair over replacement, but our heritage-led approach ensured the windows were restored in situ and did not compromise the building’s architectural integrity.
Investing in the correct restoration
Whilst the restrictions and regulations surrounding these properties are completely understandable, and, to a degree necessary, it is important that they are regularly reviewed to ensure professionals across the UK can remain informed and aligned on the works that can realistically be undertaken. We believe a balanced and slightly more flexible approach is needed, where the importance of heritage conservation is recognised, while reasonable retrofit and restoration works are still permitted. Planning authorities must become more aligned with the rules and restrictions that are in place on a national scale and create clearer guidelines for heritage property owners to remove confusion throughout the process.

The traditional towns and villages of Britain are defined by their heritage homes and are full of character and charm. And whilst preserving that character matters, it should not come at the cost of comfort, warmth or efficiency.
This is exactly the tension EcoSlim was designed to resolve. Thoughtfully developed for period properties and conservation areas, EcoSlim from Ecoglass blends the timeless elegance of traditional windows with the high-performance benefits of modern glazing, allowing

homeowners to honour the visual heritage of their property whilst enjoying modern standards of comfort and efficiency.
“Homeowners in period properties shouldn’t have to choose between preserving their home’s character and living comfortably in it,” explains Mark
High, Director at Ecoglass. “EcoSlim was developed precisely so they don’t have to.”
Available from just 14mm, Krypton’s superior thermal performance is central to the EcoSlim design, allowing for noticeably narrower frames than conventional units while still meeting modern building regulations. The result is glazing that preserves the slim, authentic sightlines of a heritage home without sacrificing thermal efficiency.
The benefits extend beyond warmth, as the use of Krypton gas improves acoustic insulation, thereby reducing external noise and creating a meaningful advantage for older homes in busier locations.
For conservation areas and period properties alike, EcoSlim offers a genuine answer to a long-standing problem: how to protect the heritage we value while meeting the demands of modern living.
Our growth means we’ve accelerated our ability to help our customers take on tough frame manufacturing challenges, and find the solutions that work. Consult | Tooling | Machinery | Bespoke

Cortizo’s new system for commercial premises
The multinational company has launched a new fixed light and door solution with anti-finger-trap protection
Cortizo presents Millennium Wall, a modular system of fixed lights and doors designed for enclosing commercial premises, offices, restaurants or any other tertiary-use spaces.
Fixed elements are configured using 100 mm deep mullions and transoms with sightlines of 52 mm, enabling a consistent exterior appearance with Cortizo’s capped curtain wall systems.
Millennium Wall provides access solutions with a single or double-sash pedestrian door system equipped with pivots and door closers integrated into the top frame, allowing bidirectional opening. These doors are designed for intensive use in high-traffic environments and incorporate an anti-finger-trap solution to ensure user safety.
The doors can accommodate weights of up to 120 kg and max imum dimensions of 1,100 mm in width and 2,500 mm in height per sash. Their high level of security has been certified
through successful PAS 24 testing under the demanding British standard. Accessibility has also been a key consideration in the design of this system, which features a PRM threshold of only 15 mm.
Millennium Wall has successfully passed laboratory testing, achieving Class 4 air permeability, Class 3A watertightness, and Class C2 wind resistance ratings. Thermal performance is enhanced by a thermal break of up to 35 mm and glazing options of up to 45 mm. In addition, Millennium Wall offers the possibility of installing glazing beads with inserted gaskets on the sash, helping to speed up the glass installation process on site.

To harmonise the overall aesthetic, all accessories are available in the same colours and finishes as the rest of the profiles. The system is compatible with the standard pull handles used on Millennium doors, such as Art Infinity and Inox. Furthermore, when

the door is configured for single-direction opening, handles can also be fitted.
Millennium Wall is now available in the Croydon and Leeds showrooms, where clients and architects can discover this new solution firsthand.

Luxury aluminium and steel entrance doors
Alunet Systems and JD Door Systems expand installers’ premium entrance door options with three-tier Aluna+ range nationwide launch
Alunet Systems and JD Door Systems, part of the Eurocell Group, have launched the Aluna+ Entrance Door range to the UK market, introducing a new collection of luxury aluminium and steel entrance doors aimed at helping installers expand their front entrance door offering.
The introduction comes as demand for premium aluminium entrance doors continues to grow, providing installers with an additional product option that combines contemporary styling with security and thermal performance. The Aluna+ collection has been structured into three distinct ranges—CORE, NOVA and PRIME—allowing installers to offer customers a choice based on budget, specification and project requirements.
Aluna+ CORE is positioned as the quality range, delivering durability, thermal insulation from 1.1 W/m²K, anti-burglary security and a two-year warranty as standard. It is intended to provide a dependable entry point into the collection while maintaining the key characteristics expected from a premium entrance door.
The NOVA range builds on those features by offering thermal performance with U-values as low as 0.87 W/m²K, together with
sound reduction and a five-year warranty. Positioned as the superior tier, NOVA gives installers another option for customers seeking increased insulation and additional performance benefits.
At the top of the collection is Aluna+ PRIME, a fully aluminium range described as the supreme option. PRIME achieves thermal performance from 0.8 W/m²K and includes Class 6A watertightness, sound reduction, a 10-year warranty, and RC2 and RC3 security options, giving installers access to the highest specification within the new portfolio.
Across the entire Aluna+ range, install-

ers can choose from more than 100 panel designs and approximately 200 colours and finishes. The collection also includes aluminium sidelights with thermal breaks and an extensive selection of hardware, allowing products to be configured for a broad variety of residential styles and customer preferences.
Supporting the launch is a new online door builder developed by Alunet Systems and JD Door Systems. The platform has been designed to simplify the quotation and ordering process, enabling installers to configure door designs, select colours, finishes and hardware, and generate validated orders within minutes.
According to the companies, the digital ordering system is intended to reduce ordering errors, shorten turnaround times and make the process of securing and processing new business faster and more straightforward. Together, the Aluna+ Entrance Door range and its accompanying ordering platform provide installers with a comprehensive addition to their product offering as they respond to demand in the premium entrance door sector.

Marking 35 years in business, Senior Architectural Systems has channelled
sustained investment into innovation and market growth
35 years of investment and innovation
Senior Architectural Systems is marking its 35th anniversary, celebrating more than three decades of growth, investment and product development within the UK aluminium fenestration industry.
Established in 1991, the company has grown to become one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of aluminium windows, doors, curtain walling and ancillary systems. Over this period, Senior has expanded its operational footprint and product portfolio, with a commitment to developing future-proof and energy-efficient solutions to meet the evolving needs of the construction industry. In March 2025, Senior entered a new phase of growth following its acquisition by ASSA ABLOY, supporting further expansion of its manufacturing capabilities and strengthening its position in the UK market.
Over the last 35 years, Senior has invested significantly in its manufacturing and distribution facilities in South Yorkshire, including the opening of a dedicated Thermal Improvement Centre in Rotherham. The company continues to operate from its headquarters in Denaby, where recent upgrades to the in house powder coating facility have continued to support greater efficiency and quality control.
PURe® thermal break technology
A major highlight for the company came in 2015 with the launch of Senior’s patented PURe® thermal break technology. The system secured a UK patent the following year and went on to receive a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. Senior’s PURe® range of aluminium windows and doors has supported a wide range of projects across the education, healthcare and residential sectors and remains a core part of Senior’s product offering.
Since 2019, Senior has also been the proud host of Aluminium Day, a dedicated awareness day for the aluminium industry which provides an annual platform to celebrate innovation and success across the supply chain.
Mark Wadsworth, Senior’s Managing Director commented: “Reaching our 35th anniversary is a proud moment for the business. Our progress has been driven by continuous investment and by the strong relationships we have built across the industry. As we look to the future, our focus remains on supporting customers with more sustainable products, transparent data and ongoing improve-

ments to our manufacturing capabilities.”
What you see is what you spec
Reducing the environmental impact of its business operations and providing customers with sustainable and efficient aluminium fenestration products remains a core part of Senior’s future plans. Most recently, as part of its What You See Is What You Spec campaign, Senior Architectural Systems is reinforcing the clarity of its environmental information and calling on the wider fenestration industry to move beyond top-line figures and also adopt the same transparent, evidence based approach.
The call to action follows Senior’s publication of a suite of product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its aluminium doors, windows and curtain
wall systems which challenge the traditional format to provide more accurate data.
As part of this unprecedented move, Senior’s EPDs include the environmental impact of all system components, including thermal breaks, gaskets, and fixings, as well as fabrication and delivery to site via Senior’s fabricator network.
Dedicated UK sustainability lead
Senior’s campaign is being headed up by the manufacturer’s dedicated UK sustainability lead Luke Osborne. Under Luke’s stewardship, Senior is reframing the way it communicates information about its low carbon aluminium to provide more detail and context so that specifiers are empowered to challenge some of the bolder claims
that are often made. A key part of this is Senior’s desire to see the industry move away from the over reliance of quoting carbon figures relating to aluminium billets in isolation as this doesn’t account for the extrusion and profiling process and therefore doesn’t reflect the products that are actually installed on site.
For its part, Senior is keen to provide greater clarity around its own aluminium extrusion processes and how that affects the billet figure that is so often quoted. Senior currently offers two options – its standard aluminium, known as ReAl 4.0 and its lower carbon option which is available on request, ReAl 2.0.
Impressive figures
Senior’s standard ReAl 4.0 aluminium has a billet figure of 3.5 kg CO₂e/kg and an extrusion figure of 0.75 kg CO₂e/kg to give an overall carbon footprint of 4.25 kg CO₂e/ kg for mill finish aluminium profiles. ReAl 2.0 has a billet carbon footprint of 1.61 kg CO₂e/kg, which when added to the 0.75 kg CO₂e/kg figure for extrusion process, gives an overall figure of 2.36 kg CO₂e/kg for mill finish aluminium profiles.
Commenting, Senior Architectural Systems’ UK sustainability lead Luke Osborne said: “As carbon figures relating to aluminium billets alone don’t give an accurate picture of the products installed on site, the extrusion process must be factored in to any carbon calculations as well as all the individual components that make up the specific system. Otherwise, there are significant

discrepancies in terms of what has been claimed, and what is true in reality. With many public sector projects now engaging with carbon auditors to check for this very issue, the need for full transparency is not only an ethical matter but also a commercial one”.
‘Marking the milestone’ - Senior will be marking its anniversary across its social media channels over the coming months,
sharing a series of company milestones and project highlights that showcase the breadth of its work across the commercial, residential and public sectors. Any fabricators or installers that would like to nominate a scheme to be featured can do some by getting in touch via Senior’s social media platforms.

Ten years on, Midori Aluminium and AluK celebrate a partnership defined by trust, performance and ambition
Partnership success for Midori Aluminium
eicester based fabricator Midori
LAluminium has just received its Authorised Partner plaque from AluK in recognition of the success of two companies’ ten year ongoing partnership.
The presentation followed hot on the heels of Midori’s second appearance at the NEC’s Home Building & Renovation Show, where both the success and value of the partnership to both businesses were very apparent.
Arjun Keshwala, Midori Managing Director, said that lots of well-informed homeowners came to the Midori stand specifically to see AluK products. He said: “We were delighted because we had enquiries from people who already knew the AluK brand and what it stands for in terms of UK design, manufacture and quality. They’d done their research on line beforehand and came to us because they knew we had AluK windows and doors on show. “It was the perfect example or how we benefit from the investment AluK makes in its brand, and the fact that the brand is underpinned by good quality products and a truly comprehensive customer support package.”
Neil Dattani, AluK’s Area Sales Manager who is responsible for looking after Midori added: “Midori’s association with AluK undoubtedly brings benefits to them, and we’re constantly looking to add even more value via our technical and marketing support and continual investment in new products, but obviously it’s only one aspect of their story. Midori is a strong brand in its own right, and Arjun and the team have done a fantastic job over the years building a reputation for quality and professionalism, and for going over and above when it comes to service.”
Midori now fabricates a comprehen-

sive range of AluK products, including the Heritage door, the BSC94 HI slider, all the 58BW window options and the brand new IconiK bifold. It supplies trade customers nationwide and has an installation arm which operates within a 100 mile radius of Leicester, specialising in high end residential projects where there is real demand for slim sightlines, larger glass areas and premium finishes.
Arjun added: “Every customer that buys from us – whether they are a trade installer, an architect or a homeowner knows that we deliver reliably excellent quality, but hopefully also that we are focused on delivering an outstanding experience every time.
“For installers, that means easy ordering, technical and drawing support and showroom access for their retail buyers. While for homeowners and architects, it means being prepared to work on even the most complex, one-of-a-kind glazing projects, and finding solutions where other fabricators might say no. Bespoke isn’t just a word we use, it’s how we operate. From luxury heritage glazing to complex commercial installations, we approach every project with a problem-solving mentality and attention to detail. Customers know they can bring us ambitious ideas and trust us to deliver them, and our partnership with AluK certainly helps with that.
“We really value the technical support
and accessibility of the AluK team. Having a responsive account manager like Neil Dattani and technical expertise on hand makes a big difference when you’re managing bespoke projects and tight timelines.
“Recently, for instance, we fabricated AluK’s first arched Heritage door and AluK’s technical team worked closely with us to to ensure the design met the customer’s vision and also performed structurally, thermally and compliantly.”
Like so many aluminium fabricators, Midori Aluminium is pushing back against the race to the bottom on price which threatens to undermine the sector. Arjun commented: “Too many companies still compete purely on cost, even though service, reliability and product quality ultimately matter far more over the lifetime of a project. We are all facing rising costs, labour shortages and increasingly demanding compliance requirements, so it is frustrating unrealistic pricing and lead times giving customers false expectations.
“However, as we are demonstrating, there are still huge opportunities out there for businesses like ours which have got the balance right between manufacturing capability and efficiency and customer experience.”

Economic uncertainty has changed the way many homeowners now approach major spending decisions. Rather than upsizing or relocating, increasing numbers are choosing to improve the homes they already have, investing in spaces designed to meet their long-term needs and lifestyles.
While the ‘move or improve’ debate is nothing new, the concept of the ‘forever home’ is becoming increasingly influential with homeowners placing greater emphasis on quality, durability and timeless design choices that will continue to add value and enjoyment for years to come.
For the fenestration sector, this shift is creating a growing demand for premium products and materials, particularly aluminium systems, as consumers look beyond short-term costs and focus more heavily on long-term performance and aesthetics.
As Scott Foster, group marketing director at Endurance® Aluminium explains, homeowners are becoming far more considered in their purchasing decisions as they pursue the perfect ‘forever home’.
“People are thinking much more carefully about where they invest their money,” says Scott.
Improving the property they aleady love
“For many homeowners, moving house is either financially unattractive or simply not the right solution anymore, so instead they’re investing in improving the property they already love.
“When customers take that long-term approach, priorities naturally begin to shift. Rather than looking purely at the upfront costs, they start focusing on quality, durability, appearance and how products will perform over many years. These days, creating a space that is ‘Instagrammable’ is increasingly becoming part of the checklist too.”
This changing mindset is particularly evident in the growing popularity of aluminium glazing systems. Once viewed primarily as a commercial product, aluminium has become increasingly desirable to homeowners thanks to its slim sightlines, contemporary appearance and long-term resilience.
Modern homeowners are also increasingly design conscious with glazing playing a major role in the overall look and feel of a property. Large expanses of glass, minimal frames and clean architectural lines continue to grow in popularity across renovation and extension projects, particularly as homeowners seek to create brighter, light

living spaces.
“Where once windows and doors were seen as functional, they are now a key part of the overall aesthetic vision for many homeowners. Aluminium is increasingly viewed as a premium solution because it delivers on both performance and aesthetics, offering strength, durability and low maintenance alongside the sleek, modern appearance many customers are looking for,” Scott continues.
“Homeowners want products that look exceptional but also stand the test of time, and aluminium gives them that combination.”
Energy efficiency also remains a major driver behind renovation activity, particularly as homeowners continue to face rising energy costs and increasing awareness around sustainability. Premium glazing systems can play a significant role in improving energy efficiency and comfort, making them an increasingly important part of renovation plans.
Importantly, the shift towards premium home improvement products is also creating new opportunities for installers.
As consumers become more willing to invest in quality, conversations are moving away from purely price-led selling and towards long-term value. Installers who can confidently demonstrate the benefits of premium systems, including durability, aesthetics, efficiency and lifecycle performance, are often better positioned to secure higher value projects.
“The most successful installers are increasingly those who can sell on value rather than simply competing on price,” says Scott. “Homeowners undertaking major renovations are typically making emotional as well as financial investments into their homes, so they want reassurance they’re choosing products that genuinely deliver.
“That creates significant opportunities for installers who understand premium products and can clearly communicate the long-term benefits to customers.”
Expectations continue to evolve
The trend also reflects wider changes within the home improvement market, where consumer expectations continue to evolve. Homeowners now carry out extensive online research before making purchasing decisions and are increasingly influenced by quality, reputation and overall customer experience rather than headline pricing alone. For manufacturers and installers alike, this means premium positioning, product quality and service standards are becoming increasingly important competitive differentiators.
While economic uncertainty may have slowed some areas of discretionary spending, the ‘forever home’ trend demonstrates that homeowners are still prepared to invest when they see genuine long-term value. For the glazing industry, and particularly for premium aluminium systems, that shift is helping to reshape both consumer expectations and future market opportunities.

3D Aluminium boosts capacity with Emmegi
Aluminium fabricator has strengthened its Oxfordshire facility with a new four-axis Emmegi machining centre, lifting production capability
3D Aluminium’s 22,000 ft² factory in Oxfordshire has long been a showcase for Emmegi’s advanced machinery solutions, but it has had a significant boost recently with the installation of a brand new Emmegi Phantomatic X4 4-axis CNC machining centre.
The Eynsham-based commercial aluminium fabricator has trusted Emmegi’s proven performance for decades, so when it was looking to increase capacity and invest in more advanced CNC technology, the Emmegi brand was very much first choice.
The team at Emmegi (UK) understood 3D’s strategic growth plans and recommended the Phantomatic X4 to 3D as the ideal machine to support those. The X4 is a proven and popular solution, with a 7kW S1 high torque electrospindle and 8-piece tool magazine for heavy duty machining on curtain walling sections. The 4-axis technology means the electrospindle can rotate around 180° and machine on the top and sides of the profile without having to be repositioned and, with an overlength feature, it has capacity for up to 8m bar lengths.
Integrated software controls the
automatic positioning of the vice units depending on the length of the workpiece, so the machine is easy to operate, and there is a user-friendly interface displayed on a suspended, movable 15in touch screen.
For 3D, the new machine further enhances its efficiency and gives commercial clients absolute confidence that the company is focused on innovation.
Paul Batts, 3D’s Operations Director commented : “This significant investment with Emmegi (UK) marks a new chapter in our commitment to precision engineering, efficiency and excellence in the fabrication of aluminium curtain walling, doors and windows. By integrating further advanced CNC technology into our production processes, we can ensure both the accuracy and consistency of our output, whilst also reducing lead times and increasing overall productivity.”
One of the lead operators of the machine from 3D also commented: “As the main operator of the Emmegi Phantomatic X4 4-axis CNC, I’ve found the machine to be exceptionally user-friendly and highly reliable in day to day operation.
“Its intuitive interface and
straightforward programming make set up efficient, even for the most complex machining tasks, allowing for a smooth workflow with minimal downtime. The precision and consistency of the machining performance are outstanding, delivering high quality finishes and tight tolerances across a wide range of profiles.
“Overall, the Phantomatic X4 combines ease of use with excellent operational performance, making it a valuable asset in maintaining both productivity and quality standards.”
Ian Latimer, Emmegi (UK)’s Managing Director added: “The supply of the Phantomatic X4 really demonstrates the value of a long term partnership with your machinery supplier. 3D told us they wanted to reduce material waste and optimise energy usage, as well as achieving performance improvements, and we were able to recommend a machining centre we knew would deliver all of that, and also dovetail perfectly with their existing Emmegi machining set up.

Driving a dedicated aluminium expansion
Fabframes has opened a dedicated aluminium manufacturing facility as demand for its Stellar Aluminium fabrication continues to grow
Less than twelve months after entering aluminium fabrication with Stellar Aluminium, Fabframes has expanded its operation with the opening of a dedicated aluminium manufacturing facility as demand continues to grow.
The Devon-based fabricator initially added Stellar Aluminium to its portfolio in August 2025, attracted by the system’s combination of premium aesthetics, fabrication efficiency and installer-friendly design. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength, with continued customer demand driving the investment and expansion.
Mike Taylor, Managing Director at Fabframes, said: “When we first invested in Stellar Aluminium, we were confident it would be a strong addition to our business. What we’ve experienced over the last 12 months has exceeded our expectations. Demand has continued to grow, our customer base has expanded and we quickly reached the point where a dedicated aluminium manufacturing facility was the natural next step.”
A key factor behind the company’s suc-
cess has been the response from installers. Mike said: “The feedback we receive from customers is consistently positive. One of the biggest benefits they highlight is how easy Stellar products are to install. The pre-gasketed knock-in beads save valuable time on site and make installations quicker and more efficient. In today’s market, anything that helps installers save time while maintaining quality is a major advantage.”
As demand has increased, Fabframes has also expanded its Stellar offering and now manufactures the complete portfolio, including casement windows, flush windows, residential doors, heritage windows, bifold doors, inline sliding doors and lift-and-slide doors.
Mike added: “Being able to offer the full Stellar range means our customers can source all their aluminium requirements from one trusted supplier. The consistency of the system, the quality of the products and the support from the Stellar team have all contributed to our growth.”
Jon Foulds, Key Account Manager at Stellar Aluminium, said: “Fabframes’
progress over the past 12 months has been exceptional. They recognised the potential of Stellar early and have invested to maximise the opportunity. Their decision to open a dedicated aluminium manufacturing facility demonstrates the confidence they have in the system and reflects the growing demand for premium aluminium products in the market.”
He continued: “The installer feedback they are receiving mirrors what we’re hearing across the country. Stellar was designed to save time at every stage, from fabrication through to installation, and features such as the pre-gasketed knock-in beads have proved particularly valuable for installers looking to improve efficiency on site.”
With its dedicated aluminium facility now operational and the full Stellar Aluminium range in production, Fabframes is well positioned to continue its growth trajectory while supporting installers across the South West with a complete aluminium window and door solution.

As aluminium demand grows, Nathan Court explains how Visoglide Premium helps installers compete with greater value and flexibility
Smarter design unlocks aluminium potential
Homeowners are drawn to the clean lines, slim sightlines and contemporary aesthetics that aluminium products offer, making them a popular choice across both refurbishment and new-build projects. As demand has grown, competition has intensified, creating fresh challenges for installers looking to win work and maintain healthy margins.
Against this backdrop, value has become more important than ever.
Customers remain willing to invest in high-quality home improvements, but purchasing decisions are being scrutinised more carefully. Installers therefore need products that combine competitive pricing with quality, reliability and service.
Recognising this shift in the market, Sternfenster has undertaken a comprehensive review of its aluminium patio door offering, resulting in Visoglide Premium.
Meeting market demands
Visoglide Premium has been developed to create a stronger proposition for installers by improving efficiency, simplifying installation and delivering greater value.
“We wanted to take a fresh look at what installers really need from a patio door system,” says Nathan Court, Chief Sales Officer at Sternfenster. “The market has evolved significantly over recent years, and our customers need products that support competitiveness, customer satisfaction and long-term business growth.”
By refining the system design and introducing improved manufacturing efficiencies, the company has been able to create meaningful commercial benefits, improved value and a more competitive patio door proposition.
“The real gains have come from improving efficiency behind the scenes,” Nathan explains. “We’ve looked carefully at how the product is manufactured and how we can create a stronger proposition for installers. That work has allowed us to improve the overall offer and achieve a significantly more competitive price point.”
For installers, this creates opportunities in a market where every quotation matters.
Patio doors have historically presented challenges when it comes to balancing performance, aesthetics and affordability. In many cases, installers have found themselves having to navigate difficult conversations around price while trying to

protect their own profitability.
Visoglide Premium has been developed to help address that challenge.
Flexible by design
The system combines the aesthetics homeowners are looking for with the flexibility and performance installers need.
An 83mm interlock comes as standard, with an optional 35mm slim interlock available for projects where maximising glass area and creating expansive panoramic views is a priority. A standard U-value of 1.6 W/m²K and 1.2 centre pane U-value also supports growing demand for energy-efficient home improvements.
Flexibility has also been a key consideration. Available in both double and triple track configurations, Visoglide Premium can accommodate two, three, four, five or six sliding sashes, while also supporting larger and heavier sash weights. This allows installers to specify solutions for a broad range of property styles and project requirements, whether for contemporary homes or more traditional properties.
Security is another important part of the Visoglide Premium proposition. PAS 24 options are available alongside enhanced locking specifications that allow doors to conform to Document Q requirements where required. Features including a flush upstand outer frame and internally beaded co-extruded sash and bead design contribute to a high-quality finished product, while colour-matched handles are available on request to create a coordinated appearance.
Designed with consistency in mind, the system helps installers achieve reliable results on site and ensures projects run smoothly from order through to installation. “We know that our customers value simplicity, reliability and flexibility,” says Nathan. “They want products that adapt to different requirements and deliver the quality and performance homeowners expect.”
Build quality, manufacturing expertise and trade-focused support remain central to the Sternfenster offering.
Customers continue to benefit from the build quality, manufacturing expertise and trade support that have helped establish Sternfenster as a trusted supply partner across the industry. Reliable lead times and responsive customer service continue to underpin the company’s approach.
As market pressures continue to shape buying decisions, Sternfenster believes installers will seek products that help them remain competitive and deliver value to homeowners.
For the company, Visoglide Premium represents exactly that opportunity.
“Installers should have access to solutions that help them win work, operate efficiently and grow their business,” Nathan concludes. “Visoglide Premium brings together quality, flexibility, performance and value in a way that works for today’s market.”

MAXIMUM DESIGN FLEXIBILITY FROMASINGLESYSTEM
Aluminium fabricator wins approval after two decades of partnership
AMidlands-based window and door manufacturer has been awarded official Approved Fabricator status by aluminium systems supplier ALUK, recognition that formalises a working relationship stretching back to 2006.
Astra Windows, which was founded in 1989, has fabricated ALUK systems for nearly 20 years, supplying trade installers across the UK with aluminium windows, doors and commercial glazing solutions. The accreditation, which ALUK awards to fabricators meeting its standards for quality, consistency and technical capability, provides installers with additional assurance when selecting a supply partner.
David Jackson, managing director of Astra Windows, said the status reflected the consistency the company had worked to maintain throughout the partnership.
“We’ve worked with ALUK for twenty years, so achieving Approved Fabricator status is something we’re incredibly proud of,” he said. “More importantly, it gives our customers additional confidence that they’re partnering with a fabricator recognised for its knowledge, longevity, expertise and commitment to quality.”

The accreditation comes as demand for aluminium products continues to rise across residential and commercial construction. Installers operating in tighter project schedules are increasingly consolidating their supply chains, and Astra Windows positions itself as a single-source fabricator capable of covering a full project’s aluminium requirements. Its portfolio includes casement, flush and tilt-and-turn windows, sliding patio doors, commercial entrance doors, shopfront systems and curtain walling, alongside
bifolding doors from Aluna and entrance doors from the Signature range.
The company, which employs precision in-house fabrication and offers nationwide delivery direct to site, returns quotes within 24 hours and backs its aluminium systems with 10-year guarantees.
Jackson said the company’s focus had always been on reducing pressure for trade customers. “Installers today need more than just great products. They need suppliers who understand the pressures they face and can consistently deliver quality, service and support.”

Senior calls for greater clarity over low carbon aluminium claims
As part of its What You See Is What You Spec campaign, Senior Architectural Systems is reinforcing the clarity of its environmental information and calling on the wider fenestration industry to move beyond top-line figures and also adopt the same transparent, evidence based approach.
The call to action follows Senior’s publication of a suite of product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its aluminium doors, windows and curtain wall systems which challenge the traditional format to provide more accurate data to specifiers.
As part of this unprecedented move, Senior’s EPDs include the environmental impact of all system components, including thermal breaks, gaskets, and fixings, as well as fabrication and delivery to site via Senior’s fabricator network. The energy-intensive extrusion process is also accounted for, but importantly the glazing has been omitted. This is because glazing, which is not typically supplied by system houses, can artificially lower the carbon figure for the aluminium system. Senior argues that for complete accuracy, glazing should always be reported separately through its own EPD.

Senior’s campaign is focused on the belief that specifiers should only be given accurate and useful information and is being headed up by the manufacturer’s dedicated UK sustainability lead Luke Osborne. Under Luke’s stewardship, Senior is reframing the way it communicates information about its low carbon
aluminium to provide more detail and context so that specifiers are empowered to challenge some of the bolder claims that are often made.

Fentrade supports Newport city centre shopping mall rejuvenation
Amajor transformation and revitalisation of a Newport city centre shopping district has been supported by specialist independent trade fabricator Fentrade Limited.
The project saw the creation of a complete new shopping area within the Kingsway Centre with nine sets of shopfront doors and screens manufactured in RAL9005 matt black finish from Jack Aluminium profiles. The new shopping area will make more space available for small local traders to access start-up retail units and complement the recent addition of a traditional market and entertainment area in the Kingsway.
Commenting on this latest commercial undertaking, Chris Reeks, Fentrade’s Managing Director, was pleased with the outcome: “Newport is one of the fastestgrowing cities in Wales and it’s been a pleasure to work with the Kingsway Centre to help them develop a shopping experience that will drive more visitors to the city centre. Working closely with their team

we provided open, bright and welcoming entrances to appeal to traders and shoppers alike.”
Fentrade’s commercial offering has continued to grow and it has become a goto fabricator for trade installers requiring high-quality GFT shopfronts and screens suitable for multiple applications. The Kingsway project required non-thermally
broken screens with easy-to-use yet secure locking and single glazed laminated panes, but Fentrade’s portfolio also encompasses thermally broken profile systems with multiple options of standard, secure and emergency-access locking.
“Being involved in such a project in our home town is a great source of pride for our team and us as a company”, continues Chris, “and it is also exciting for our products to form an integral part of a drive to increase footfall into the city centre when other high street shopping areas are struggling.”
Established in 2018, Fentrade Limited manufactures and supplies high-quality aluminium frames for the trade delivered across Wales, the West Country, Midlands and the North produced from industryleading systems such as Aluk, Kestrel and Jack Aluminium. The manufacturer has recently relocated to larger premises and undertaken an investment programme of over £500,000 in new plant, machinery and equipment to underscore its reputation as a reputable reliable trade fabricator of choice.
Garnalex and Sheerline secure
EPD sustainability verification
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have been achieved to the requirements of EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 and published online for both Garnalex and Sheerline.
This reflects the growing need for sustainable products and transparency around the manufacturing processes, which aligns with Sheerline’s core values. With the Future Homes Standard (FHS) updates coming into effect next year and the UK working towards its Net Zero Strategy, EPDs are expected to become more important in the near future.
Both EPDs have been externally assessed and independently verified by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), which adds legitimacy, giving customers confidence in both the brand and products they’re choosing. It will also enable them to win more business through competitive tenders and with specifiers that demand proof of sustainable practices.
Several factors contributed to the low GWP number; all operations are completed in-house at a single manufacturing site, giving full oversight over the processes required to take the raw materials and turn them into the end product. Additionally, the raw material (aluminium) is sourced in the UK, reducing the carbon footprint.
To ensure they’re as broad as possible, both EPD types are Cradle to Gate with modules C and D. The Garnalex EPD

has been calculated using 1 kg of trade aluminium extrusions, while the Sheerline EPD utilises 1 kg of profile used across the entire range of window, door, and roof products.
Sheerline’s Head of Compliance, Martin Froggatt, said: “Our EPDs provide the indepth insights our customers want and need to know. We’re giving them the tools they need to win more work and champion sustainability. It’s been a long process, but ultimately it has been worth it.”
“I’ve already worked with two of our customers who are now interested in securing an EPD for their operations. For me personally, it’s been a great exercise in teamwork, requiring the input of colleagues from across the business, which highlights what we can achieve when we work together, while also highlighting our ongoing commitment to sustainable practices.”

Immersive marketing that wins the sale
Hurst Doors is helping retail installers sell more effectively with an integrated marketing package centred on immersive digital tools
With many retail installers lacking dedicated showroom facilities, Hurst is enabling its customers to give homeowners an immersive, up-close look at their chosen door from the comfort of their own sofa. Through an integrated package of brochures, augmented reality and digital marketing tools, the company is bringing the showroom experience directly into the home.
“Investment in marketing is critical for Hurst because it’s critical for our customers,” says Hayley Barker, Head of Marketing at Hurst Doors.
“The brochures, augmented reality (AR) tool, and video content that we’ve created have all been designed to support the sales process for our retail customers.”
With around 80% of those customers operating a smallerscale business model, Hurst’s marketing plan was centred around recognition that many installers don’t have access to dedicated showrooms.
“This means going into their customers’ homes with a brochure full of 2D images, which often doesn’t do the products justice enough to sell them,” explains Hayley.
“Our task was to give our customers the tools to bring those doors to life – in the comfort of the homeowner’s own living room.”
The result is a suite of marketing tools designed to create an immersive showroom experience, whatever the location.

A showroom in your pocket
Central to the package, Hurst’s AR sales tool enables installers and homeowners to visualise doors in 3D and in-situ, directly on the intended property.
With CGI imagery used throughout Hurst’s brochures, homeowners can access their chosen door style instantly on their smartphone through a simple QR code. The technology also allows users to rotate the door 360º, zoom-in to see woodgrain effects and glass styles up close, and walk around the visualised door using AR.
“It’s like having a showroom in your pocket,” Hayley explains. “From a sales perspective, the fact that you can walk around the door, see the grain effect, see the glass style – those elements go far beyond ‘what does it look like on your front door, Mrs Smith?’ It’s far more than that.
“It also makes it much easier for installers to sell to those homeowners who may be housebound or live too far from a physical showroom to make a visit.”
In addition to the AR tool, installers also have free access to highquality CGI renders for websites and social media, customisable social graphics and video content to support digital marketing.
With all this available, free of charge, to all Hurst customers, the marketing package also helps smaller installers to compete against larger companies, with access to greater resources, on a level playing field.
“All of these tools are absolutely free to use for our customers,” Hayley confirms. “Along with any of the imagery from the brochures, they can have the QR codes – even for their invoices and emails – which link to the 3D imagery.”
By equipping installers with tools that genuinely bring products to life, Hurst is helping them convert more leads, increase customer confidence and differentiate themselves from the competition.
“When manufacturers invest in marketing that helps installers sell, they’re investing in everyone’s success,” says Hayley. “That’s our marketing mission, here at Hurst.”

Business Pilot launches Phases feature for commercial installations
Business Pilot has launched a new feature developed in response to customer feedback, giving installers greater visibility and control over commercial, multi-site and multi-phase projects through a single customer record.
The feature makes Business Pilot the first CRM in the glazing sector to give installers a dedicated way of managing both retail and commercial projects within a single platform.
While many CRM platforms are designed around retail installations and commercial project management systems are often geared towards large-scale construction projects, Phases has been developed specifically to support installers operating across both markets.
While many installation businesses continue to focus on retail work, growing numbers are securing larger contracts spanning housing developments, apartment blocks, commercial offices and multiproduct installations. Managing these projects through traditional CRM systems can create administrative challenges, reduce visibility and make operational planning

more difficult.
The new Phases feature has been created to address those challenges, providing installers with a structured way to manage
complex projects while maintaining visibility and control across every stage
The new functionality allows businesses to divide large contracts into clearly defined operational segments, giving project managers greater visibility of progress across individual phases, plots, buildings or product deliveries while maintaining a single commercial relationship at contract level.
Administrators can enable the feature as required and configure custom project types to suit their own workflows. Projects can then be split into specific operational segments and labelled according to the needs of the contract, whether that’s Phase 1, 2 and 3, individual plot numbers or bespoke delivery stages.
Once a project progresses from enquiry to order, each phase can be managed individually, allowing teams to track progress, allocate resources and monitor the status of different elements of the contract from a single screen.

Leading independent trade fabricator Modplan has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of its new composite door range, enabling customers to source another high-quality product from a supplier they already know and trust.
Liam Isaac, Head of Sales and Marketing at Modplan, said: “As a business, we’ve built our reputation on supplying products that our customers can install with complete confidence. When we decided to add composite doors to our portfolio, it was important that the product reflected the same levels of quality, performance and reliability that customers have come to expect from Modplan.”
The new range is manufactured from DoorCo’s composite door slabs, selected for their quality, design options and market reputation. Combined with VEKA outerframes, high-security cylinders and premium hardware throughout, the result is a composite door range designed to deliver outstanding aesthetics, security and longterm performance.
Liam commented: “We carefully assessed the market before making our decision. DoorCo has an excellent reputation for quality and innovation, making it the ideal partner for our composite door range. By combining DoorCo slabs with premium specification components and our own
manufacturing expertise, we’re offering a product we’re proud to put the Modplan name behind.”
As you would expect from Modplan, security was a key consideration throughout the specification process. As standard, the doors feature the Winkhaus autoLock AV4 automatic multi-point locking system, which secures the door automatically when closed. The lock meets the requirements of PAS 24 and is approved by the Secured by Design initiative, delivering peace of mind for both installers and homeowners.
Liam said: “Homeowners expect more from their entrance doors than ever before. They want a product that looks exceptional, performs flawlessly and offers complete security. The Winkhaus AV4 system plays an important role in helping us deliver that combination of convenience, security and performance.”
The range includes a carefully selected collection of traditional and contemporary door styles, supported by a wide choice of colours, glazing options and hardware finishes. This gives installers the flexibility to offer homeowners a solution that suits virtually any property style while maintaining the standards that define the Modplan brand.
Liam concluded: “The addition of composite doors is a natural progression for Modplan. It allows customers to source

even more products from a single trusted supplier while benefiting from the quality, service and reliability that have defined our business for more than 50 years.”

Window Tracer: the fastest window and door design software ever built
ApertureWorks launches Window Tracer in June, a design tool built around how installers actually work on site.
ApertureWorks, the Hertfordshire SaaS company behind CIS Invoice and TakeoffPDF, launches Window Tracer this June. The company says it is the fastest and most complete window and door design software in the trade.
Window Tracer is built for the surveyor on site, not the designer at a desk. Founder Paul Edwards spent more than 20 years in fenestration before starting ApertureWorks, and says the team scrapped two earlier ideas before landing on the right one.
“We thought about a 3D window designer. Then a tablet app to draw on. Then we watched what actually happens on a survey. Every fitter I know has sketched a job on the back of a fag packet, an old receipt, the corner of a quote pad. It’s not lazy. It’s fast. It works. So we built Window Tracer to respect that.”
Window Tracer is the simplest and fastest way to design a window or door. Layer in sketch2quote and a surveyor can sketch an opening on any bit of paper, snap it with their phone, and have it converted into a working Window Tracer design in seconds.
Edwards calls sketch2quote the Netflix moment for fenestration. The Uber moment
From rough sketch to finished design.

for surveys. He argues the trade’s design tools have for decades served fabricators, leaving the small window companies and one man installers at the front line with software that doesn’t match how they work.
Window Tracer is one of six products in the ApertureWorks suite, positioned as the operating system for window and door installers. Spicy Designer, a white-label door configurator that lets installers offer
homeowners a branded online designer without being tied to a single fabricator, also launches in June. Hub CRM is the connective tissue across the suite and is already in beta with installers. Leads, an automated postal outreach tool driven by planning application data, follows later in the year. Both join CIS Invoice and TakeoffPDF, already live. The waitlist is open now at windowtracer. com.

This is a truly flexible system which can be fitted on doors with a lever handle, escutcheon or pull bar and is available in six different finishes including black, white, brass, chrome and nickel to suit the style and colour of any panel.
The ABS Black Xlock uses advanced keyless technology to allow users to lock, unlock and monitor the status of their door using either their phone, an xKey fob, XPad keybad, Wi-Fi bridge or NFC tag.
User-friendly, the Black Xlock is ideal for both homeowners and landlords because it allows users to either share the app directly with family, friends and trusted visitors, create temporary or limited access codes for anyone who needs to enter their property, or lock and unlock remotely.
Users get notifications about who has unlocked the door and, when they pair the app with a Wi-Fi bridge, they can control the Black Xlock from anywhere in the world.
Nicky Park, Euroglaze’s Senior Business Development Associate, commented: “The Black Xlock is a simple and cost effective upgrade for our trade customers and gives them lots of opportunities to upsell their
installations and increase their margins. It has all the physical and digital security protections required, with both facial and fingerprint recognition and full 128-bit AES encryption. And, for complete reassurance, it even comes with two traditional cut keys which can be used in an emergency.”
She added: “Euroglaze may be Rehau’s longest serving UK fabricator with a distinguished 45 year heritage, but our success has always based on always looking forward and not back. Whether it’s introducing cutting-edge Smart Door systems like the Black Xlock keyless cylinder, pioneering advanced manufacturing techniques, or developing bespoke digital tools for efficient ordering and stock management, we have consistently led the way in technological innovation within our industry. Our team are highly trained and extremely knowledgeable, and can give

specialist advice on these new products or on any of our service and support tools on the phone, online or in person.”

Presenting designs with VisiRoom
When a customer is considering making a change to their home, choosing the right design can be difficult. Drawings, samples and showroom displays can be useful but they do not always make it easy to picture how the finished product would look at home. Wouldn’t it be useful if you could show them the proposed design in the setting that matters most.
VisiRoom is an augmented reality app that allows retailers to do exactly that. A retailer creates the customer’s design in vsHome and can then either present it directly during an appointment or share

it by text message, email or QR code. The customer or retailer can then open the design in the free VisiRoom app on a compatible iOS or Android device and view the model in their own environment. The visualisation is based on the design created in vsHome, carrying across key details such as dimensions and materials.
VisiRoom includes three viewing modes which are designed to allow for different ways of interacting with the model.

In Real Scale mode, customers can preview their design at full scale, accurately placed against their property. The app detects horizontal and vertical surfaces to help position the model. Once placed, users can walk around it, view it from different angles and also step inside to understand the space better.
Tabletop mode is designed for situations where the user is away from home. It allows the same designed to be viewed on a flat surface such as a table, making it easy to move, rotate and zoom in on details whilst on the go or in the showroom.
Virtual Reality mode is available for use with a compatible VR headset. It provides an immersive way to explore the design, although it is typically used less frequently than the mobile and tablet modes due to the need for the headset.
VisiRoom is free to download for both retailers and customers, with no specialised equipment required for the mobile or tablet experience. By allowing designs to be viewed in context before any work begins, VisiRoom helps customers better understand the proposed project and gives retailers a more effective way to present and communicate their designs.

Unique Door Panels launches Defendor
Working with leading composite door manufacturer, DoorCo, Unique Door Panels has recently launched the Defendor range, engineered with BRiTDOR, DoorCo’s solid core o ering.
Andy Jones, MD of Unique Door Panels, explains that adding BRiTDOR to their range has delivered clear bene ts, combining exceptional aesthetics with long-term performance across their door products.
“One of the standout advantages is the nish quality. With BRiTDOR, foils such as Rosewood, Oak, and Irish Oak are not simply stained to achieve a similar tone; they are manufactured as a precise match to the door pro le. This creates a seamless, consistent appearance across the entire door set, signi cantly enhancing the overall visual impact. The result is not a “close enough” nish, but a true, perfect match that elevates the standard of the nished product.
“In addition to these popular nishes, BRiTDOR o ers a wide range of leading foils to matching pro les. This ensures continuity across every element of the door, so the slab, frame, and detailing work together perfectly. It’s a level of integration that our customers immediately recognise and value.
“Durability is another key bene t. The foil nish provides a robust alternative to traditional sprayed products, o ering improved resistance to wear, weathering, and day-to-day use. This not only enhances

the lifespan of the door but also reduces maintenance concerns for the end user.
“Finally, BRiTDOR has expanded our manufacturing exibility. Compared with conventional GRP slabs, we can now produce both smaller and larger door sizes, giving us greater scope to meet bespoke design requirements without compromising on quality or nish.
“Overall, adopting BRiTDOR, which we have launched as Defendor, has allowed us to deliver doors that are more visually consistent, durable and versatile – bene ts that translate directly into better outcomes for our customers.”
Amanda Shelley, DoorCo Sales Manager, comments: “Sales are ying for our solid timber core option BRiTDOR, with a massive 55% growth as more and more customers add the versatile range to their composite door o ering.
“It has been a pleasure working with Andy and the team at Unique Door Panels to launch their Defendor range. As an existing DoorCo customer fabricating ORiGINAL doors, it was simply a case of supporting them to onboard and integrate BRiTDOR into their existing set up through our readymade processes. The systems are all set up and ready to go, with orders placed online through the ONE portal, and our technology team worked with Unique to make sure the upgrade was seamless.
“We also worked with Andy and the team to create marketing materials to support the launch, including a bespoke brochure designed to showcase the new Defendor brand. This included creating a bespoke selection of 4K images to showcase the new range of doors and the perfect colour matching capabilities available, which they are also using to support their social media launch campaign.”
The launch of Defendor marks a strong next step in Unique Door Panels’ partnership with DoorCo, bringing BRiTDOR into the company’s range under a dedicated new brand. Supported by tailored marketing materials and an established ordering process, Defendor provides a strong platform as Unique Door Panels continues to develop its composite door o ering.
