EDITOR’S COMMENT A GLOBAL WINDOW ON INNOVATION AND IDEAS

T

he past month has been a significant one for the UK window and door industry. Chief among developments was the publication of the Future Homes Standard, a clear signal of the government’s determination to close the gap between the theoretical performance of building products and how they perform in real-world applications. For the specification of windows and doors in new-build housing, it marks a meaningful change in the rules of the game.

The sector is facing a growing wave of regulation. That shift is unavoidable, but many in the industry regard it as a necessary and positive step, bringing fenestration into closer alignment with other parts of construction in the drive towards warmer, safer and more efficient buildings.

As a result, the race is on to identify products that make compliance with increasingly complex regulation easier. For many in the UK, this month’s search for answers began at Fensterbau in Nuremberg , the world’s largest sector-specific exhibition. The biennial event attracted more UK visitors than usual this year, helped by machinery suppliers and profile system companies inviting customers to see innovations from their international supply partners. Fensterbau remains an unrivalled platform for networking and relationship-building, something reflected in the volume of social media activity around the event. While detailed reporting on individual product launches has been relatively limited, several themes emerged that are both transferable to and highly relevant for the UK market.

Among the most prominent product trends were vacuum glazing, slimline interlocks, zero low-level door thresholds, pivot doors and aluminium-clad windows. There was also a strong emphasis on greater connectivity between fenestration products and digital technology. More broadly, leading system houses appeared increasingly focused on developing platforms that can be adapted to differing regulatory environments and aesthetic demands, rather than creating narrowly localised product lines. In many cases, the strategy could be summed up as global systems for local markets, with significant investment going into engineering products for export.

“Framing what’s next” proved to be more than a slogan at Fensterbau 2026. It served as a clear statement of intent from an industry moving quickly to reinvent itself. In Nuremberg, many of the world’s leading fenestration players used the show to demonstrate how sustainability, smart technology and industrialised workflows are converging into a new operating model for manufacturers and fabricators. On sustainability, the message was unequivocal: climate performance is no longer an added feature, but a basic requirement. From recycled and bio-based materials to high-performance coatings and glazing,

exhibitors framed their product launches around lifecycle carbon, durability and circularity. The dedicated “climate safe building” content reinforced the point that windows, doors and façades are being re-engineered as active contributors to the energy transition, designed to withstand hotter summers, heavier rainfall and tighter regulation.

That sustainability agenda is now reshaping product development itself. System houses showcased new profiles, surfaces and sliding solutions that combine thermal performance with refined aesthetics and extended service life. Decorative technologies that replicate natural materials through industrial processes also highlighted how environmental demands are increasingly aligned with architects’ preference for warmer, more tactile façades.

The first Innovation Award formalised this shift, recognising solutions that deliver technical gains alongside measurable ecological benefits.

Yet behind the visual appeal of the exhibition stands, the deeper transformation lay in how products are designed, specified and manufactured. Across the halls, machinery suppliers demonstrated fully networked production lines, robot-assisted handling and data-led quality control, all aimed at supporting high-mix, high-volume production. Digital twins, BIM interfaces and smart configurators are shortening the feedback loop between design office and factory floor, bringing serial refurbishment and modular construction closer to the scale the sector has long discussed but only rarely achieved.

Smart technology is completing that picture at the product level. Connected windows and doors, sensor-enabled hardware and app-based monitoring are turning the building envelope into an intelligent part of the wider building system.

At Fensterbau, that technological development was matched by a sharper strategic message: the future competitive edge will belong to businesses capable of combining sustainable products, digital workflows and smart functionality into coherent, scalable systems.

Above all, Fensterbau demonstrated the continuing value of conversation, face-to-face engagement and direct interaction with products. For the UK market, that provides a timely lead-in to its own dedicated fenestration exhibition, the FIT Show, which returns to the NEC Birmingham from 18 to 20 May 2027. The industry is now entering what promises to be an important 12 months, as promotional activity from exhibitors and organisers begins to accelerate ahead of the main event.

NorDan UK expands into façade solutions by acquiring RED Systems

orDan UK has announced the acquisition of RED Systems, a UKbased specialist in architectural glazing, curtain walling and façade systems. The move marks a significant step in NorDan’s UK growth strategy, strengthening its early-stage design, compliance expertise and building delivery capabilities to expand its market-leading offering beyond high-performance windows and doors into a more integrated building envelope solution.

As the UK construction industry continues to adapt to evolving regulatory requirements and expectations around compliance, accountability and performance increase, the need for more coordinated façade and building envelope solutions has become more pronounced.

By combining NorDan’s expertise in high-performance timber and aluminiumclad windows and doors with RED Systems’ façade capability, the business will offer a more integrated approach to building envelope design and delivery. This aims to support earlier project involvement, improve coordination across systems and reduce risk at key interface points.

Glazerite’s Barnsley site hits 500 frames per week within 18 months of set-up

lazerite has revealed that it is manufacturing 500 frames per week at its Barnsley manufacturing site; a significant milestone that was achieved within just 18 months of the facility opening. The trade fabricator’s North Division took the new factory from an “empty shell” into a live fabrication site in just 84 days.

“To go from a standing start to fully functional within 12 weeks, and 0 to 500 frames per week within 18 months, is a considerable accomplishment,” said Darren Rhodes, Managing Director for Glazerite’s North Division.

“We’re very proud of the whole team for all the hard work and effort they put in to make that happen within such a short space of time.”

The 30,000ft² Barnsley facility, located in Darton, is dedicated to the manufacture

of Deceuninck products, including its 2500 and 2800 system casements and tilt and turn windows, as well as composite, residential and French doors.

Set up to meet Glazerite’s increased commercial demand, the fabricator chose to work with Deceuninck due to its strong product and service offering and extensive

commercial expertise.

“At Glazerite, we like to work with like-minded partners and Deceuninck’s commitment to quality and excellence matches our own,” added Darren.

“Products like the Chamfered 2500 offer low U-values and are designed to maximise energy efficiency and security, so they’re very appealing to housebuilders and developers.

GGF lobbying government to protect the apprenticeship coalition

A

mid proposed reforms to the apprenticeship system, the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has stepped up its engagement with government to safeguard the competence framework underpinning safe construction practices.

From April 2026, the Apprenticeship Levy will transition into a new Growth & Skills Levy, designed to provide employers with greater flexibility in how they invest in workforce training.

Designed to streamline the system and increase apprenticeship uptake across the UK, the reforms are expected to allow funding to be used more widely for modular, shorter, and targeted skills programmes, alongside changes to end-point assessment structures.

While increasing participation is widely supported, sectors that deliver critical building elements, including glazing and fenestration systems, have expressed concern.

Reducing independent assessment could dilute training standards and weaken competence frameworks essential to safe construction.

The GGF has formally raised these concerns with Neil Coyle MP and is collaborating as part of the 31-member

Apprenticeship Coalition, led by the British Woodworking Federation (BWF), to ensure reforms balance accessibility and assurance.

“Encouraging more people into apprenticeships is something the industry fully supports, and greater flexibility in training investment can help address skills shortages,” said John Mannell, Technical Officer at the GGF. “However, competence must remain

at the centre of any reform. Independent assessment plays a critical role in ensuring that individuals entering the sector are properly trained, objectively assessed, and capable of delivering safe and compliant results.”

“As reforms emerge and evolve, it is vital that flexibility does not come at the expense of consistent, independently verified standards – particularly in sectors governed by the Building Safety Act.” As the recognised voice of the glass and glazing sector, the GGF continues to engage with government and sector partners to ensure apprenticeship reform supports workforce growth while maintaining professional competence.

The GGF also continues to support new talent entering the industry through its Skilled Pathways for Trainees programme, delivered via the GGF Training Hub. The initiative provides structured routes into the industry, offering recognised qualifications and clear competency benchmarks to support both employers and apprentices.

The Federation will continue reinforcing its commitment to protecting standards, supporting members, and strengthening the long-term capability of the glass and glazing workforce.

Outstanding start to year signals strong start to 2026 for installers

Haffner demonstrates excellence with machinery relocation support

achinery specialist Haffner has demonstrated the strength of its service offering with the successful relocation of machinery for long-standing customer Mercury Glazing, ensuring fabrication continuity with minimal disruption.

Specialist PVC-U and aluminium fabricator Mercury Glazing required its existing Haffner machinery to be transferred into its main manufacturing facility in Gloucester as part of an operational reorganisation. With production uptime critical, the project demanded careful planning, efficient execution and rapid recommissioning.

Haffner’s experienced team managed the entire process, from dismantling and transportation through to installation and commissioning. The relocation, which included four machines and the large CNC machining centre, was completed in just two days, ensuring everything was back up and running with minimal disruption.

A cautious welcome for the Future Homes Standard from Paul Booth

P

aul Booth, Technical Director, AluK has given a cautious welcome for the Future Homes Standard. He told Windows Active: “The government recently published its long-awaited response to the Future Homes Standard consultation, and we finally now know what the standard will look like when implementation starts next year. Having taken part in the consultation, we were amongst the first to have sight of the new standard and, from an aluminium perspective, it is broadly good news.

“The notional U-Values for new build are staying at 1.2W/m²K, which is very achievable in aluminium for all but the very smallest windows even without triple glazing, rather than the 0.8 which many had feared. This looks like a pragmatic approach by the government, and possibly reflects a desire not to increase the cost and/or embodied carbon of a building by requiring triple glazing almost everywhere.

“However, there will be a move away from how that 1.2 U-Value has to be calculated.

Until now, calculations could be based on the standard calculation model (ie 1230 x 1480 standard size) but from 2027 onwards, they will have to be based on the actual size – and configuration - of each individual window, to arrive at an area weighted average.

“Technically, that is a straightforward task for us here at AluK, since our estimating software already calculates the whole window U-values using the frame U-value data we input it at the time of estimating the job. And of course, the accuracy and reliability of our calculations is underpinned by the fact that, unlike many other systems companies, all the frame Uf data we input is validated by third party Notified Bodies.

“Switching to actual window size

calculations is clearly intended to help address the gap between theoretical and real-life building performance and that’s certainly something we support. But the challenge for us – and for the whole industry – is the fact that, from next year, calculations will have to include the cills, couplers and add-ons as well as the frame, and that will significantly multiply the amount of Uf data required. Currently, a system with three opening sash and four frame options requires 12 simulations to obtain the Uf data. But from next year, once we have to add in three coupler options, four cill options and two add-ons, that will require 108 simulations – just for one product!

“As you would expect, we’re already planning a schedule so that we can get all the required AluK simulations done by 2027 – and of course that means working closely with our third party Notified Bodies on validating the data as well.

“Despite the challenge, AluK remains a proud supporter of the sustainable, low carbon objectives which drive the Future Homes agenda. Once the new regulations are in force, new homes will emit on average 75% less carbon than those built as recently as 2013 and crucially will be less reliant on fossil fuels, cheaper to run and more energy secure.”

Universal Trade Frames celebrates 30th anniversary of trading

Time to adapt to a shifting regulatory and commercial landscape

T

he UK glazing industry faces one of the most significant periods of transformation in its history, according to Michael Butterick, Marketing Director of Saint-Gobain Glass and President of the Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF), who warned that businesses must adapt quickly to a shifting regulatory and commercial landscape.

Speaking at Industry Connect 2026, the GGF’s annual conference held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Butterick told delegates that while change presents clear challenges for the sector, it also offers substantial opportunity for companies able to innovate and respond. Drawing on more than three decades of experience in the industry, Butterick said the scale of regulatory reform, evolving customer expectations and growing scrutiny of compliance represents a moment of profound transition for the sector. “I genuinely cannot remember a moment when there’s been such significant change that’s already happening and is just about to happen,” he told attendees.

A complex regulatory environment Butterick identified the evolving regulatory framework governing construction products and building performance as one of the most immediate pressures facing the glazing industry. In response, the GGF has established a Consultation Response Group (CRG) comprising representatives from across the federation’s membership. The group meets monthly to coordinate industry responses to government consultations and ensure that policymakers hear the sector’s collective voice.

According to Butterick, this collaboration has helped position the industry as a credible and informed contributor to regulatory discussions. “The government recognises our expertise and leadership,” he said, adding that maintaining constructive dialogue with policymakers is essential if the industry is to influence future regulation.

However, Butterick warned that increasing scrutiny from regulators means businesses must take compliance more seriously than ever. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) recently released findings following investigations into heat-soaked thermally toughened glass, highlighting what it described as a “deep structural compliance issue” within parts of the sector.

For companies operating in the industry, Butterick said, compliance is no longer simply an administrative requirement but a core business responsibility. “It’s the difference between leadership and liability,” he told delegates, noting that the OPSS has the authority to halt business operations where products fail to meet regulatory standards.

New building standards approaching Further change is expected as the government prepares to introduce the long-awaited Future Homes Standard, which will reshape

energy efficiency requirements for new homes in England. Butterick also highlighted ongoing discussions around Document Q, which governs security standards for dwellings. Proposed revisions could extend its scope beyond new-build housing to include replacement windows and doors.

If implemented, such a change could have significant implications for the replacement sector, potentially affecting a far larger portion of the market than the Future Homes Standard itself. Similar regulatory developments are also emerging in Scotland and Wales. Despite these complexities, Butterick emphasised that the glazing sector is central to the UK’s ambitions for more energy-efficient housing. Windows and doors, he said, play a crucial role in ensuring that technologies such as heat pumps operate efficiently. Without high-performance glazing, the benefits of low-carbon heating systems cannot be fully realised.

A major retrofit opportunity Butterick also pointed to the scale of the retrofit challenge facing the UK housing stock. More than 80 million windows in existing homes do not comply with current building regulations, representing a vast potential market for the industry as properties are upgraded to meet modern standards.

However, he argued that the sector must ensure that replacement products deliver high levels of performance and are accompanied by clear communication of their benefits to consumers.

Window Energy Ratings, widely used across the industry, have provided a simple method of communicating product efficiency for more than 25 years. But Butterick suggested that the scheme may now need to evolve. Changing climate conditions and consumer priorities mean that other factors – including security, acoustic insulation and protection against overheating – may need

greater emphasis in future product ratings.

The industry is therefore exploring the possibility of complementary “effectiveness ratings” that could highlight these broader performance benefits without replacing existing schemes.

Sustainability and industry reputation Butterick also addressed the wider perception of the glazing sector, arguing that the industry must better communicate the environmental value of its work. Replacement windows and doors play an important role in improving energy efficiency, while many of the materials removed during refurbishment can be recycled and remanufactured into new products.

This circular approach, he said, reduces the need for raw materials and strengthens the sector’s sustainability credentials. That sustainability narrative may also help attract younger workers to the industry. Butterick noted that an increasing number of new recruits are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to environmentally responsible industries.

Collective strength Closing his speech, Butterick emphasised the importance of collaboration across the sector during a period of rapid change. Industry bodies such as the GGF, he said, play a vital role in bringing together expertise from across the supply chain and representing the sector’s interests in policy discussions.

For businesses operating in the glazing market, the coming years will demand adaptability and innovation. But Butterick expressed confidence that the industry has the capacity to meet the challenge.

“One of the great strengths of our industry is our collective ability to adapt,” he said.

“As long as we continue to do that, we can turn these changes into opportunities rather than threats.”

Reynaers 35mm curtain wall achieves industry-leading test standards

eynaers Aluminium has introduced a new 35mm façade system that has achieved a UK-first in securing both CWCT (to Sequence B) and full ASTM testing for performance, safety and durability. Reynaers SlimWall 35 (SW 35) is a high-performance 35mm stick façade system best suited for low-rise commercial projects and contemporary homes.

Developed for ease of fabrication and installation, the curtain wall system is the latest addition to Reynaers’ premium range of façade systems, including ConceptWall 50, ConceptWall 60, amongst others.

Combining slender sightlines with high technical performance, SW 35 has been tested in accordance with the Centre for Window & Cladding Technology (CWCT) to the robust Sequence B standards for air, water, wind and impact performance. comfort and sustainability. Cradle-to-Cradle certified, SW 35 supports product circularity, requiring less aluminium due to its slimline design, which also helps to reduce embodied carbon to support projects with enhanced sustainability requirements.

TradeMark, which was founded by local business entrepreneur and Wokingham Football Club President Mark Ashwell 33 years ago, unveiled the new-look space this weekend with a major party that attracted more than 100 people.

Visitors explored the 2500 ft² building on Headley Park 10, talking to its home improvement experts and checking out its exclusive collection of windows and doors.

There were also four complete living spaces on display at the modern and welcoming showroom that welcomed a live band, footballing royalty, food and drink from local producers and the firm’s A-list mascot TradeMark Ted. Backed by its involvement in CO Retail Network, the company has achieved three record months on its way to achieving £4m sales this year and is about to create up to eight new retail, surveying and installation jobs in the process. Timberlook passes major milestone as over 128,000 frames are manufactured

imberlook, the heritage-style PVC-U window and door brand from Affordable Windows Group, has announced a significant manufacturing milestone. The leading manufacturer has produced over 128,000 frames since launching Timberlook in 2017, using more than 320,000 metres of PVC-U profile in the process.

To put that figure into perspective, 320,231 metres of profile is just shy of the distance between London and Paris (approximately 344,000 metres).

This milestone comes alongside a period of significant investment in the Timberlook range from Affordable Windows Group.

The business has expanded its delivery fleet with additional vehicles, invested in new machinery, and now operates three dedicated Timberlook production lines – alongside a further three lines for standard uPVC production.

For Amelia Gaughan, Head of Marketing for Affordable Windows Group, this milestone reflects the growing demand for heritage-inspired PVC-U products from installers nationwide. Double R renews service contract with Flat Glass Solutions for cutting tables

D

ouble R Glass & Roofing Systems Ltd has renewed its service contract with Flat Glass Solutions (FGS) for its Yinrui glass cutting tables after three years of successful performance in production.

The IGU manufacturer originally selected the Yinrui tables, supplied by FGS, after recognising that they delivered comparable performance to established European brands – but at significantly better value.

“For the same investment we would have spent on one traditional brand, we were able to purchase two Yinrui cutting tables, both with edge deletion and automatic double-sided glass loaders,” said Neil Spicer, operations director at Double R. “There’s been no perceptible difference in performance or product quality.”

Initially cautious about investing in Chinese-manufactured equipment, Double R relied on the expertise of FGS managing director David Cahill (Oz) and his team to ensure the solution would meet the company’s production requirements.

Today, Double R produces around 1,000 sealed units per day, with the cutting tables forming a key part of its production operation.

“The cutting tables are the engine room of the factory,” said Neil. “Making the wrong decision could have serious implications.

But the trust we placed in FGS and its understanding of our cutting requirements has absolutely paid off.”

FGS worked closely with Double R to plan and install the tables within tight factory constraints, designing the layout to within 100mm tolerances to ensure safe glass deliveries and uninterrupted production.

“The positioning and integration of equipment is a fundamental part of our service,” said David Cahill. “By carefully planning around Double R’s operational parameters, we ensured the tables were manufactured to their exact specification and installed without disrupting production.”

The installation involved engineers from both FGS and Yinrui, with rapid technical support ensuring any issues were quickly resolved. Crucially, the installations were completed without affecting day-to-day production.

For Double R, the combination of reliable equipment and responsive service has made renewing the contract an easy decision.

“The Yinrui tables might not carry the pedigree of some European brands, but they’ve proven to be exceptional workhorses,” Neil added. “FGS has demonstrated real commitment to keeping our operation running smoothly, and that’s why we’re continuing the partnership.”

ommy Trinder marks a new milestone in its rollout to The States - quotes by American installers top a million dollars in March.

“Quoting a million bucks in a month is a solid first base in our American expansion - feels like proof that there is a Tommy-shaped gap in the US market,” says Tommy Founder & CEO Chris Brunsdon. “U.S window and door software suffers from familiar problems; the tech is built to serve manufacturers not installers. It’s great for running factories, but not so great if you are in a customer’s house trying to make a sale.

The team have also discovered that American window and door language is surprisingly different; glass is tempered not toughened, Georgian squares are grilles, and back-to-back spacers are referred to as ‘simulated divided lights’.

Hurst launches digital workshops to help installers boost online sales leads

The initial workshop was delivered to a first cohort of customers ahead of Christmas and received positive feedback, prompting Hurst to roll out further sessions throughout the year as part of its ongoing Sales Academy programme.

eading North East fabricator TWR Group is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026, marking a significant milestone in a journey that has seen the family-run business grow from a local PVCu manufacturer into a dual uPVC and aluminium powerhouse serving installers nationwide.

The anniversary comes at a pivotal time for the Sunderland-based business, following its move into a new landmark 65,000 sq ft headquarters last year that united its aluminium and uPVC operations under one roof in the city where it was founded.

Veka marks five years of WinDoPlan specification platform success

F

ive years after its launch, VEKA says its WinDoPlan platform has become a central part of how its partners specify windows and doors, by bringing structural and thermal calculations into the design process at an earlier stage.

The company introduced the system to allow VEKA window and door products to be configured within set structural and thermal limits before a job reaches quotation, manufacture or installation. According to VEKA, that means suitability can be assessed at design stage rather than later in the project.

WinDoPlan calculates wind load using project-specific information such as location and building characteristics. VEKA says this allows users to determine whether a proposed design is appropriate for the conditions it will face.

The platform also calculates wholewindow U-values based on the actual configuration of a product, separating the performance of the frame from that of the centre pane. That is intended to give fabricators and specifiers a more detailed picture of thermal performance, rather than relying on broader assumptions.

VEKA says the system also carries out automated validation checks, identifying designs that are oversized or otherwise

unachievable before they move any further.

The aim, it says, is to keep specifications within defined performance limits and reduce the need for redesign later on.

For fabricators and specifiers, the company argues that this kind of earlystage modelling supports more consistent decision-making. By working within defined performance parameters from the outset, businesses can produce more accurate quotations and improve predictability across projects.

That matters as energy efficiency requirements continue to tighten. VEKA points to the direction of travel towards the Future Homes Standard as one reason why configuration-specific calculation is becoming more important, particularly when assessing wind load and thermal performance against a project’s intended design.

Alongside calculation tools, WinDoPlan includes a range of features aimed at dayto-day fabrication and specification. These include a download manager for component drawings in PDF, DWG and DXF formats, fully dimensioned cross-sectional views, and interactive 3D images designed to make product configurations easier to visualise.

The system also includes a projects area with templates, free-text notes and branding options for fabricators, as well as a freedraw function for bespoke shapes including arched and circular frames. Other functions highlighted by VEKA include area-weighted U-value calculation, a “Postbox Support” link to its technical team, and a recently added fastenings planner intended to help users specify sufficient fixings.

VEKA says WinDoPlan sits within a broader technical framework built up over four decades in the UK market, combining modelling tools with testing and technical governance. The company also says its windows product set has been independently verified as conforming to the Code for Construction Product Information.

Five years on, VEKA is presenting calculation-led specification as an established part of its support offer.

Timber is another area that’s growing in both interest and prominence at FIT Show 2027, reflecting the shift in the market toward more sustainable, high-performance solutions and the opportunity it creates for installers and manufacturers alike.

For installers in particular, FIT Show is a place to explore opportunities to broaden their portfolios and stay competitive in a changing market. Alongside the product showcase, we’ll also have content designed to help visitors drive more profit and run better businesses, because we know the current landscape remains challenging and business owners and leaders need practical ideas, solutions and products they can take away and use, see, develop and see results from in the short and long-term.

How important is the international side of the show? It’s massive. There are so many untapped brands out there that offer the full spectrum of products and are really excited by the prospect of the UK market. That creates a brilliant opportunity for FIT Show to deliver a truly international showcase and give visitors access to a wider, more diverse range of products and suppliers.

How do you help exhibitors stand out in such a busy marketplace? By really getting under the skin of what makes them different, and what a successful FIT Show looks like to them. DIRECTOR OF THE MONTH In this month’s director of the month feature, we talk to Sam Nuckey, Managing Director, Window Ware

I

f there’s one word I would use to describe the last 12 months, it would be “mixed,” but within that, there has been a great deal of opportunity. At Window Ware, we experienced a good trading year overall and achieved growth in 2025, which in the current climate is something we’re very pleased with. However, that performance hasn’t been uniform across all sectors or regions.

The repair market was a little bit down, and regionally the North proved more challenging than other areas. That said, one of the strengths of our business is our ability to adapt and create demand. Our investment in new product development last year, particularly with the Regal Hardware knurled range and Armis, generated real interest and helped stimulate growth even in areas where the market was slower. That ability to innovate and bring something fresh to the market continues to be a key differentiator for us.

Looking ahead to the next 12 months, I’m cautiously optimistic thanks to some exciting developments for us, particularly with BJ Waller becoming part of the business.

That opens up new opportunities and allows us to expand further into other areas of the fenestration industry.

However, I don’t think the market is going to hand anyone easy wins. I expect trading conditions to be broadly similar to 2025. Success will come down to focus, identifying genuine opportunities and investing time and energy where it will make a real difference. There’s also a wider economic backdrop to consider too. Ongoing geopolitical tensions and the Middle East conflict will have an impact, so it’s important to remain agile and keep monitoring the situation without becoming distracted by it.

Ultimately, it’s about concentrating on what you do best.

Inconsistent market conditions Market conditions more broadly are inconsistent. We’re seeing some customers who are very busy, while others are noticeably quieter compared to previous years. That contrast highlights an important point: a lot depends on the decisions businesses have made over the last few years. If things are slow, it’s an opportunity to reassess and look at your wider business model, offering and your market positioning.

My advice to fabricators would be to focus on your own business. It’s very easy to get distracted by what competitors are doing, but the most successful companies are those that understand their customers, their strengths and their market. Stay close to your customers, listen to their needs and build your strategy around that.

The Regal hardware knurled range has been a standout success. It brought something genuinely different to the market and our campaign behind it was also one of our most successful to date, having also been nominated at the G-Awards for Best Promotional Campaign. For me, what made it particularly effective was the level of internal engagement. The whole team got behind it, and that enthusiasm translated into a strong, cohesive message externally. When your people believe in what you’re doing, it creates huge momentum.

Our customers, many of whom are manufacturers, operate in fast-paced environments where every second counts so need suppliers they can depend on. Our OTIF (On Time In Full) metrics remain high, and the feedback we receive continues to reinforce our reputation for quality and responsiveness. That consistency is something we’re incredibly proud of.

Year of refinement In terms of products, last year was a significant one for us, so 2026 will be more about refinement than revolution. There will be some smaller additions to our range, but our primary focus is on building momentum behind what we’ve already

Opportunities emerging There are also some important opportunities emerging at an industry level.

One of the most significant is the ongoing conversation around positioning windows and doors as energy-efficient products. If government support, grants or incentives were introduced in this area, it could have a transformative impact on demand. It’s something that has been discussed for years, but there now seems to be a growing level of interest and momentum behind it.

Alongside that, developments around PAS 24 and Document Q present another opportunity. Raising standards across the industry not only improves security and performance but also reinforces the value of quality hardware. I firmly believe that every home deserves to be safe and secure, and higher standards help eliminate the justification for using inferior products.

First job: I was a management trainee for the British Railways Board. I was one of 18 on the scheme around the country It was a two to three-year programme and I worked on placements in London and across the UK. It was brilliant.

When did you join Window Ware: I joined in April 2014 as Finance Director, and I became their Managing Director the following summer in 2015 and then we did the MBO in 2022.

Most useful/favourite gadget: My iPhone; I do everything on my phone, from everything for work to all my home stuff too.

Favourite/most useful website: My favourite is Spotify because I just love music, however I’m feeling there is always music to suit the mood or environment.

Favourite restaurant for business: The Kings Arms in Cardington, which is just three miles from office. It’s a really nice historic pub, it does great food, has really lovely staff and is very convenient.

Business person you admire: I admire three leaders for their distinct styles. Tim Cook’s calm, humble, operational excellence; Richard Branson’s approachable, people-centric empowerment; and Alex Ferguson’s disciplined, values-driven accountability. What I value most is being remembered for how I lead, not just what I accomplish.

What lesson have you learnt about business over the last 12 months: It’s not a new thing that I’ve learned but I have been continually reminded of it in the last 12 months and that is to trust your gut – you know more than you think.

Best business decision: Buying Window Ware.

Other interests: Our dachshund Ruby, music, theatre, anything with friends and family, travel and I also like holistic things that are quite grounded and peaceful like yoga.

april 2026 | director of the month | 35 From a strategic perspective, our goals at Window Ware over the next 12 months are clear. Integrating BJ Waller into our operations is a major priority. That involves relocating the business into our facility and ensuring that we bring its service levels up to the benchmark that Window Ware is known for. Once that foundation is in place, we can focus on growth.

Strengthen our position More broadly, our ambition is to strengthen our position across multiple material sectors. We are already very strong in PVC, but we see significant opportunity in aluminium, where we’re not yet where we want to be. BJ Waller also gives us a foothold in timber, although there is work to be done to bring that side of the business up to speed. It’s about building a truly comprehensive offering and reinforcing our position as a leading hardware distributor across the board.

One of the biggest challenges we face as a business is actually managing our own ambition. We are a team full of ideas, and while that’s a strength, it can also lead to trying to do too much at once. Learning to pace ourselves, to prioritise and execute at a speed that is sustainable for the team, is critical.

That ties into one of the key lessons I continue to come back to: trust your instincts. In business, you’re constantly making decisions, often with incomplete information. Experience counts for a lot,

WORKING DAY I start most mornings with 15-30 minutes of yoga before the day properly begins. I check my calendar before the 20-minute drive to the office, using that time to mentally prep for the day ahead.

My days are a blend of internal and external meetings, including customer visits, supplier discussions and industry commitments.

While no longer involved in day-to-day operations, my focus is on strategic projects that drive the business forward.

I’m typically the last to leave the office and, after catching up with my family I’ll catch up on emails for some of the evening. and sometimes you have to rely on your judgement. More often than not, your gut is telling you something for a reason.

VAT threshold pressure hits installers

Small glazing installers warn of VAT threshold squeeze as rising costs continue to force price increases

mall business owners in the UK’s doubleglazing sector are warning that rising material and transport costs are pushing them towards a tax threshold that could undermine their competitiveness and profitability, even as real earnings stagnate.

One installer, speaking in a recent interview, described mounting pressure on margins as inflation drives up the cost of essentials such as fuel and raw materials. While firms are responding by increasing prices, he said these rises are merely compensating for higher input costs rather than generating additional income.

“Materials costs, everything that leads to transportation, is going to go up,” he said. “When we’re charging our prices, we’ll have to increase them by that same amount. The profit we’re making is only going to be the same as last year and probably not as much as it was even three or four years ago.”

More installers hit VAT limit The more immediate concern, however, is the interaction between inflation and the UK’s VAT registration threshold, currently set at £90,000.

Because the threshold is based on turnover rather than profit, businesses that raise prices to keep pace with costs risk breaching the limit despite seeing little or no improvement in their underlying earnings.

“It’s not about the money you put in your pocket, it’s turnover,” the installer said. “That reflects not how much you earn, but the price you have to charge to cover rising costs. It’s putting us over the VAT threshold.”

Crossing that threshold brings significant consequences. Firms must register for VAT and begin charging an additional 20 per cent on their services, a step that can make them less competitive in a price-sensitive market.

At the same time, administrative burdens increase, including higher accountancy fees and more complex reporting requirements.

For small operators, many of whom rely on local customers and word of mouth, the shift can be difficult to absorb. The installer warned that the additional cost passed on to customers could deter demand at a time when household budgets are already under strain.

“Suddenly we’re making less money than five years ago, but we’ve now got to start charging VAT to customers,” he said. “That 20 per cent extra comes when it’s hard enough to get business anyway.”

Frozen thresholds pull firms into tax bands The issue reflects a broader phenomenon often described as fiscal drag, in which frozen tax thresholds pull individuals and businesses into higher tax bands as nominal incomes rise with inflation. While widely discussed in the context of income tax, industry participants argue that the effect on VAT registration has received less attention.

A consumer expert responding in the same discussion noted that frozen thresholds have been in place since the pandemic and are increasingly having unintended consequences. “The longer that goes on, the more you’ll start to hear stories like this,” he said, describing it as a “tax rise by sleight of hand”.

However, the installer stressed that the impact of VAT differs in an important respect from income tax. Employees pushed into higher tax bands by pay rises still take home more money overall. By contrast, small businesses increasing prices purely to offset higher

costs see no equivalent gain. “With VAT, we’re getting no more in our pocket,” he said. “Prices are rising because of costs. That’s not our profit. That’s just what we have to charge to make the same money.”

Industry participants warn that this dynamic risks creating a cliff edge. Firms approaching the threshold may choose to limit their activity to avoid registering for VAT, potentially constraining growth.

Others that cross it may struggle to remain competitive, particularly when competing with smaller operators that remain below the threshold.

Mounting concern across the sector The installer said he knew “a lot of companies that are really worried”, adding that the additional burden could affect hiring decisions. “Anyone wanting to employ someone, you’ve lost it,” he said, referring to the increased costs associated with VAT compliance.

The concerns come against the backdrop of a broader cost of living crisis, which has already damped consumer demand for discretionary home improvements. With prices for windows and doors rising sharply in recent years, some installers fear that further increases linked to VAT could push projects out of reach for many households.

Despite these pressures, the installer expressed frustration that the issue has not featured prominently in policy debates. While ministers have highlighted decisions to hold headline tax rates steady, he argued that the structure of VAT means small businesses are still being drawn into higher tax burdens.

“No one seems to be looking at it,” he said.

For policymakers, the challenge lies in balancing revenue needs with the health of small businesses that form a significant part of the construction supply chain. Without adjustments to thresholds or targeted support, industry figures warn that more firms could face difficult choices in the months ahead.

As inflation continues to reshape the economics of small enterprises, the experience of installers in the glazing sector may offer an early indication of pressures building more widely across the UK’s small business landscape.

New U-value rules set future for windows

The Future Homes Standard delivers a step-change for new build windows and doors, reshaping U-value calculations and compliance requirements

N

ew regulation forcing manufacturers and housebuilders to evidence the u-value for the exact configuration of each individual window supplied into new build, could drive a shift to triple-glazing.

The Future Homes Standard was published on the 24th of March 2026. While notional U-values were held as outlined in Approved Document L at 1.2w/m2K for new build windows, the revision introduces a move away from the standard model of calculation.

Instead it introduces a specific assessment of each individual window supplied - something which may force developers to move to triple-glazed specifications to achieve compliance.

“The age of the ‘standard calculation window’ is effectively over for new build,”said Kevin Jones, Head of Technical at the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF).

“Under the Home Energy Model, every window has to be calculated to its actual size and configuration to arrive at an area weighted average. That includes all the items that sit within the opening. That’s a huge change in mindset and methodology for both housebuilders and their window and door suppliers.”

It comes as the Government attempts to close a gap in performance between theoretical building product performance and what they deliver in real-life applications.

From standard models to real-world calculations At the heart of the change is the move away from SAP to the new Home Energy Model (HEM) for new homes.

This means modelling each specific window configuration. That creates a challenge because most of windows supplied in a realworld context are smaller than the ‘standard’ window configuration (1230x1480 open/fixed) used to model U-values.

The smaller the glazed area, the harder it is to achieve a U-value

of 1.2 W/m2K, especially where windows feature transoms, mullions, dummy sashes, astragal and Georgian bars, add-on cills, head vents and other components.

“Government has been very clear that the model of the home needs to reflect what is actually built,”explained Kevin.

“That means everything in the window opening that affects thermal performance has to be taken into account. Up to now, most calculations have been based on relatively simple, clean configurations. Under the new regime, the real-world complexity of modern window designs is brought into the calculation.

“On a big, simple window with a high glass-to-frame ratio, you can often achieve compliance with a well-specified double glazed unit. But when you start adding dummy sashes, transoms, Georgian bars and so on - particularly in smaller apertures - you’re making life much more challenging in thermal terms.”

Structural elements of the window which can negatively impact thermal performance, for example steel reinforcements and bay couplers, do not need to be included in the HEM calculation.

Industry faces race to prepare The shift also puts software and systems houses in an immediate race against time to create and integrate U-value configurators into their manufacturing processes before the end of the transition period.

The GGF is currently seeking clarification on how long the industry has to implement the changes.

The Approved Document states that changes ‘take effect on 24 March 2027 for use in England for building work that is not in connection with higher-risk building work’ and ‘24 September 2027 for use in England for building work that is in connection with higher-risk building work’. This would, however, mark a departure from previous – and longer – transitional arrangements.

For now, at least, for domestic replacement, the current regime, including the use of standard sizes and styles for U-value declarations, essentially remains unchanged, however Kevin warned that an extension into window and door replacement, was the logical next step. “Everything we’re seeing points to this being a staging post, not the final destination,” he said.

Kevin concluded: “The Future Homes Standard doesn’t just tweak the numbers – it changes the rules of the game for new build window and door specification “Those who move early, understand the detail and invest in the right tools and relationships will be in a strong position.

“Those who wait until 2027 and hope for the best are likely to face difficult conversations, disrupted projects and squeezed margins. Now is the time for the trade to get on the front foot.”

Triple performance with just two panes

Velux redefines energy efficiency and reduces the carbon footprint of roof windows with new vacuum insulating glass technology

A

t the DACH+HOLZ trade fair in Cologne, Germany, Velux unveiled its new vacuum insulating glass technology — an innovative product designed to take the performance of roof windows to the next level.

Developed in partnership with Guardian Glass, the technology is specifically engineered for roof windows — a far more demanding application than facades due to higher loads and structural requirements. It provides high thermal and acoustic insulation with a reduced CO₂ footprint, contributing to more sustainable buildings and improved indoor comfort.

This new technology allows Velux to replace the space between glass panes with a vacuum that significantly reduces heat transfer.

This enables excellent insulation performance within a much thinner and lighter construction compared to standard triple glazing. Instead of separating panes with argon or krypton gas, this solution uses a vacuum that effectively minimises heat loss.

As a result, the vacuum insulating glass achieves the performance of triple glazing in a slimmer, lighter design. A subtle dotted pattern created by tiny spacers between the panes is characteristic of this technology but does not obstruct the view.

VELUX will introduce the technology in two variants: a single vacuum glazing solution and a hybrid version.

Single Vacuum Glazing The single vacuum glazing variant is an ultra-thin double pane design that delivers thermal performance comparable to triple glazing. By eliminating the third pane, this new solution is between 1.5 and 5 kg lighter per MK06 unit (depending on the full window construction), making installation easier.

In addition, it offers approximately 30% lower CO₂ footprint when comparing the insulating glass unit alone. A roof window equipped with this glazing achieves an impressive insulation value of Uw = 1.0 W/(m²K). The difference becomes clear when comparing thickness: this new glass measures only 11.5 mm, versus 26.4 mm for standard double glazing and 38 mm for standard triple glazing with similar insulation performance.

It will debut in 2026 in the UK and Ireland within the Velux Heritage range, ensuring architectural authenticity is preserved while delivering superior thermal and acoustic performance for enhanced indoor comfort.

Vacuum Hybrid Technology The hybrid version combines the vacuum double glazing with a third pane separated by a gas filling. This construction delivers outstanding thermal insulation and excellent sound reduction while lowering the CO₂ footprint. With a Uw value of 0.83 W/(m²K) and a sound insulation rating of 38 dB, the hybrid solution offers high energy efficiency and acoustic comfort, comparable with the company’s most efficient glazing, IGU 67, with reduced carbon emissions by 5% compared with a full roof window and by 12% compared with the glass alone.

“We are very pleased to introduce this product innovation at DACH+HOLZ. It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to sustainable construction and living and confirms that our product innovations are future-proof, designed to meet even the most stringent upcoming requirements for window thermal insulation values,” says Tina Mayn, Executive Vice President for Products & Innovation at the Velux Group.

A launch date for the German market has not yet been set.

Depending on project interest and availability, Velux expects to expand the offering to additional European markets.

Velux began testing vacuum insulating glass more than 20 years ago and introduced early versions to the German market. While promising, demand for ultra low U value products was lower at the time, and performance advantages were not yet significant enough compared to standard triple glazing.

Since then, vacuum glass technology has advanced considerably in durability and performance, especially in facade systems.

Tempered glass is now used for greater resilience, sealing methods have improved vacuum integrity, and closed absorber systems remove residual and released gases.

Building on this progress, Velux spent the past decade developing vacuum insulating glass technology and, since March 2024, has continued development through partnership with Guardian Glass.

Improvements include a fully tempered glass solution with fewer supporting spacers between panes — enhancing insulation — and the ability to achieve lower Ug values than standard triple glazing with the hybrid solution. Single vacuum glazing now enables ultra-thin double pane units with sleek profiles and comparable performance to conventional triple glazing.

AWG Director Paula Cocker reflects on 35 years of progress as a senior female leader working in the window and door fabrication sector

W

ith March celebrating International Women’s Day, Affordable Windows Group has been taking the opportunity to recognise the women who play an invaluable role at AWG. Director Paula Cocker, who has been with the company for a remarkable 35 years, looks back on how her role has developed – and how the industry has shifted – over more than three decades.

You started at the company when you were just 16. What were those early days like?

When I joined as a 16-year-old office junior, I expected to spend my days photocopying and filing – but that was never really the case. Instead, I was thrown straight into pre-planning production for the factory, making sure there was a steady work flow through into PVC manufacture. I was ordering hardware and timber for our timberclad system at the time, and supporting our contracts manager with admin. Before long, I moved on to pricing jobs for trade customers and dealing with locals as they came in with orders and collections. All under the watchful eye of my then-boss, who could instil the fear of God into anyone. I still partly credit him for my resilience in the line of fire of pretty much anything!

How did your role develop as the company grew?

As we became busier and bigger, we moved to a larger factory and my role shifted. I was switching between quoting, taking orders from customers, and processing them onto the production software for manufacture. I was also ordering products based on these orders, so I became much more involved in the production side rather than sales. When we moved to even larger premises, customers were mainly dealing with our sales teams, and I somehow became the point of contact for technical enquiries. I’m not entirely sure how that happened! I certainly didn’t have all the answers for every enquiry, but I resolved every single one, without fail. I’m completely honest in saying I don’t know everything – not by a long stretch – but I will always find the pieces of information we need to get customers the answers they’re looking for.

The fenestration industry has traditionally been very male-dominated. What has your experience been like as a woman working in this sector?

It was, and still is to a degree, a male-dominated sector. Back in the day, some customers would point blank refuse to deal with a woman and preferred to “wait for one of the fellas” to become free.

But things have (thankfully) changed a lot over these 35 years.

Back then, we had women in office roles (and still do now, of course), but the only managers were male figures, and only men

were fabricating in the factory. Now we have women in positions across the company, from managerial roles to manufacturing positions. It’s made us stronger as a company, without question.

You need diversity to thrive – a wide range of perspectives, ideas and practical skills across every part of the business. The women at Timberlook bring knowledge, ambition, practical skills and insights that are absolutely invaluable, and we wouldn’t be the company we are today without them.

Why is it important to see more women in roles across the industry?

Visibility is everything. We need women represented in every part of the business – not just behind a desk, but on the factory floor, in management, across the whole operation. When the next generation of young women look at our industry, they need to be able to see people like them in the roles they aspire to. That’s how we encourage them in, and that’s how we grow. I’ve always believed that women bring something incredibly valuable to the workplace.

We have an enormously robust but empathetic way of dealing with situations – whether that’s personnel issues or customer enquiries.

We’ve got the strength, the sensitivity, the composure, and the banter to smooth things over and get things resolved. A strong work ethic, pride in your work and a courteous manner shouldn’t make us any different to our male colleagues. But the reality is, I think women still have to push that little bit harder to prove themselves.

The good news is that we’re more than up to the challenge.

Gerda hits the TV screens of homeowners

T

John Cowie discovers how Gerda is turning to television advertising to reach a new door buying audience

he decision by Gerda to take to national television marks a notable departure from the glazing sector’s usual marketing playbook, with the company betting that a broader consumer audience will ultimately drive demand through its installer network.

At the launch of its new campaign on GB News, Danny Williams set out a rationale rooted less in brand vanity and more in practical sales outcomes. The aim, he said, is to support fabricators and installers by helping them win and retain customers who might otherwise remain out of reach.

“We’re stepping into a different type of market,” he said. “It’s about assisting our downstream partners to retain more clients and attract more enlightened customers.”

For all the industry’s investment in digital channels, Williams believes there remains a sizeable audience that has yet to be properly engaged. Social media, online advertising, print media and e-commerce platforms all have their place, but they do not capture everyone. Television, in his view, offers a way of bridging that gap and prompting consumers to begin their buying journey with a clearer idea of what they want.

Deliberate focus on audience profile The choice of GB News reflects a deliberate focus on audience profile. Williams pointed to the channel’s appeal among older homeowners, a group more likely to be considering significant home improvements and less inclined to make purely price-driven decisions. Crucially, he also noted that advertising rates remain competitive, making the move more viable than many in the sector might assume.

There is, however, no fixed commitment to the campaign’s duration. “If it works, you carry on doing it,” he said, capturing a straightforward approach that prioritises results over long-term media planning.

Measuring those results is central to the strategy. Rather than relying on broad estimates of brand awareness, Gerda has put in place a system designed to track enquiries from first contact through to distribution among its dealer network. Viewers who respond to the advert are directed to the company’s website, where a configurator and enquiry process feed into a central dashboard.

This allows the business to monitor traffic levels and, more importantly, to ask customers directly how they heard about the product. The intention is to build a clear picture of how effectively the campaign is converting interest into tangible leads.

Williams suggested that experiences from other advertisers on the channel had helped shape expectations. In some cases, he said, companies had generated more leads than anticipated, forcing them to expand capacity or even launch new brands to handle the volume.

For Gerda, the emphasis is slightly different. With an established dealer network already in place, the task is to ensure that demand is channelled efficiently to partners who can convert it into sales. The campaign is therefore as much about reinforcing those relationships as it is about attracting new customers.

Underlying the move is a firm belief in the continued importance of the showroom. Williams argued that premium products such as entrance doors are rarely bought on impulse or on price alone.

Customers want to see, touch and experience the product before committing.

A defining feature of the home “If you can drive people to a showroom, they can feel the difference,” he said, adding that serious buyers are unlikely to rely solely on online images when making a purchase of this scale.

That reflects a broader view of the front door as a defining feature of the home rather than a functional afterthought. It is, as Williams put it, “the face” of the property, shaping first impressions for visitors and owners alike.

The campaign also signals a clear move away from the lower end of the composite door market, which he described as prone to service issues and inconsistent performance. By contrast, Gerda is positioning its offer firmly at the premium end, supported by marketing that speaks directly to the homeowner.

In that sense, the television campaign is more than an experiment. It represents a shift in how demand may be generated in the sector, with manufacturers taking a more active role in influencing consumer choice before the installer ever becomes involved.

If the approach delivers the results Williams expects, it may not be long before others begin to follow suit.

Unpicking the Middle East crisis

Mike Parczuk, MD, Sternfenster asks ‘How will the Middle East crisis impact your business?

he global backdrop for the UK window and door industry has shifted dramatically in recent weeks as geopolitical events have a direct, measurable impact on the day-to-day reality of fabrication, supply, pricing and installation. So, what do installers need to know?

The conflict between the US and Israel, and Iran is having a massive impact on energy markets, logistics networks and raw material supply and with oil tipping above the $110 mark at the start of this month, no one is immune.

That’s pushing up manufacturing and energy costs. It increases operational overheads, gives home owners a reason to invest in energy efficient home improvements and limits their ability to do so all at once by squeezing household incomes.

With so much volatility, how do installers navigate economic waters as turbulent as those of the Hormuz Strait?

“We were hit by a raft of price increases and manufacturing costs at the end of March”, explains Mike Parczuk, Managing Director, Sternfenster. “Systems houses, our glass suppliers, hardware – we’ve seen increases across the board and by as much as 11%.

“That is a direct consequence of the conflict in the Middle East.

It’s impacting the price you pay at the pumps for fuel and your energy costs.

“Even with the current ceasefire the impact of disruption to global oil supply and shipping is going to be felt for months to come.

“We can’t change the course of global events but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have a choice about how we move forward.

“We do.”

Supplier to strategic partner Against this backdrop the changing role of the fabricator is accelerating away from supplier to strategic partner, placing emphasis on stability, transparency and long-term thinking.

“When the market becomes unpredictable, the difference between a good supplier and a great one becomes very clear.

It’s about who can keep delivering, who communicates honestly, and who has made the right investments to support their customers when it really matters”, Mike continues.

The risk of getting this wrong for installers is significant. Supplier instability can lead to missed deliveries, inconsistent quality, and ultimately damage to your reputation with homeowners.

And in a market where margins are already tight, those risks are amplified.

Mike argues that this is where long-term planning comes into its own. Sternfenster’s investment strategy has been consistent and long-term.

It includes significant capital investment in manufacturing infrastructure, including new automated glass lines and welding technology, alongside ongoing development of digital systems that improve efficiency and reduce errors “We can’t control global events,” Mike continues, “but you can control how well your business is set up to deal with them. The investments we’ve made are all about giving our customers that extra layer of protection.

“No supplier is immune to global cost pressures, the approach to managing them can vary significantly - that was something that we saw with Covid.

“Some fabricators switched-off investment plans. That’s made them less able to manage the challenges that we’re facing today.”

Sternfenster’s action plan While Sternfenster’s long-term investment strategy has given it

stronger foundations on which to build it has also been proactive in its response to the radically shifting economic landscape.

This includes absorbing costs where it has been viable to do so; challenging supplier increases where those costs have appeared unjustified; investing in supply chain resilience; and communicating openly and regularly with its customers.

“As you might expect, we’ve had some challenging conversations with our suppliers”, continues Mike, “but we should have confidence in our relationships with them and if necessary, have those robust and frank discussions.

“We’ve recognise the impact to the global economy and supply chains but also don’t believe that we or anyone else should try and profiteer from them and we’ve said that.

“We’ve got to a place with our suppliers where we’re collectively feeling the pain and things are as fair as they can be but we will continue to push and challenge if we believe it isn’t.”

Lessons learnt As well placing emphasis on the importance of investment, Mike argues that the other important takeaway from the pandemic was the importance of consistency of supply.

“You can’t simply look at Covid and overlay as a roadmap for where we are today”, he says, “but there are clearly some takeaways.

“The most important one of those is that short-term decisions have long-term consequences. Partnerships pay when economic conditions are tough. They deliver reliability and stability to your supply chain.

“There were lots of installers who jumped between suppliers based on price and it came back to haunt them.

“The industry needs to value partnership and loyalty more highly. It delivers greater certainty over supply, it reduces the risk of disruption, protecting your reputation and it gives you access to tools and support.

“When it’s difficult, it provides stability and longer term, a far stronger foundation for growth.”

PAS 2000:2026 marks a significant shift in how construction products are assessed, Winkhaus says it will bring the end of the ‘Frankenstein doorset’

The end of the ‘Frankenstein doorset’ T he publication of PAS 2000:2026 “Bringing safe construction products to market”, marks a significant shift in how construction products are assessed, specified and justified across the UK housing sector. While the Code of Practice applies to all construction products, its implications are particularly important for residential and multi-occupancy projects, where the need for demonstrable safety, compliance and accountability continues to intensify.

At its core, PAS 2000 moves the industry away from assumptions and fragmented evidence towards clear, verifiable proof that products are safe for their intended use. For specifiers and responsible persons, product claims can no longer be taken at face value.

Instead, performance must be supported by relevant test evidence, independently verified and directly linked to the product being installed.

This is especially important for fire doorsets. These are not simply doors, but life safety systems designed to protect escape routes, contain fire and smoke, and provide occupants with time to reach safety. Yet historically, the sector has relied on a patchwork of test data, extended assessments and substituted components that do not always reflect the doorset ultimately installed.

The end of derived evidence A key issue addressed by PAS 2000 is the reliance on derived evidence. This is where test data from one doorset configuration is used to justify another, despite differences in materials, construction, hardware, glazing or seals. Over time, this creates a chain of assumptions that moves further away from the original tested design.

The result is what is often referred to as a “Frankenstein doorset”, a product assembled from multiple pieces of unrelated evidence, but which has never itself been tested as a complete system.

While this approach has historically been supported through technical assessments or engineering judgement, PAS 2000 signals a clear change in direction. Manufacturers must now demonstrate that their products are safe for the intended application, supported by appropriate and relevant evidence. For doorsets, this means the evidence must relate to the actual product supplied, not a theoretical combination built from historic reports.

Fire, smoke and security: all must be proven - Another challenge for specifiers is

• Has the complete doorset been tested as a system, including leaf, frame, hardware, glazing and seals?

• Is there verified smoke control performance?

• Has the doorset been tested for security performance?

• Is the evidence independently certified?

• Does the evidence relate directly to the doorset being specified?

the tendency to treat fire resistance as the sole measure of performance. Three critical performances must be considered: • Fire resistance, the ability to contain fire for a defined period; • Smoke control, preventing smoke spread into escape routes; • Security performance, resistance to forced entry.

Each plays a vital role, particularly in residential and multi-occupancy projects.

Smoke inhalation remains the leading cause of fire related fatalities. A doorset that meets fire resistance requirements but lacks verified smoke performance may fail to protect escape routes in the early stages of a fire.

At the same time, security cannot be overlooked. Doorsets must protect residents from unauthorised entry, anti-social behaviour and criminal activity. A door that performs well in fire but lacks tested security performance introduces a different, but equally significant, risk.

Crucially, none of these attributes should be assumed. They must be demonstrated through testing and verified by independent third parties.

Asking the right questions PAS 2000 places strong emphasis on accurate product information and verifiable evidence, creating an opportunity for specifiers to strengthen procurement processes.

These are not administrative hurdles.

They are fundamental to ensuring that what is installed performs as expected. Choosing a fire doorset is not simply a procurement decision, but a strategic safety choice.

Implications for residential and multi-occupancy projects - For social housing providers, the implications are significant. Organisations must demonstrate compliance with fire safety legislation while maintaining accurate records under the Golden Thread.

PAS 2000 supports this by driving clear, consistent and evidence based product information, enabling better decision making at specification stage and throughout the building lifecycle.

It also aligns with the expectations of the Building Safety Regulator. At Gateway 2, submissions must be supported by robust, traceable and product specific evidence. PAS 2000 helps ensure that this information is verifiable and consistent across the design and supply chain, reducing the risk of delays or resubmissions.

Ultimately, PAS 2000 helps move submissions from “this should comply” to “this is proven to comply”, which is exactly what the BSR requires.

A shift towards proven performance PAS 2000 does not introduce new test standards, but it does change how evidence is expected to be used.

The direction is clear: products must be specified based on tested, verified and traceable performance, not assumptions or inherited data.

For residential and multi-occupancy projects, this represents a critical shift. By asking the right questions and demanding the right evidence, the industry can move away from theoretical compliance towards genuine, proven safety for residents.

Helping to make smart locking a reality S mart locking technology continues to evolve, but adoption in the UK domestic market remains slower than expected. Paul Balfe, Business Development Manager at FUHR UK, explores the gap between innovation and installation, and how the industry can bridge it.

Events like Fensterbau Frontale provide a valuable opportunity to step back and reflect on how our industry is evolving, and where there may be gaps between innovation and adoption.

One of the most prominent themes from this year’s event was the continued development of smart locking and access control technologies. From smartphoneenabled systems to biometric access, technology is advancing rapidly. However, conversations with fabricators and installers suggest that bringing these solutions into the domestic market is not always straightforward.

At the same time, customer behaviour is changing. Homeowners are increasingly doing their own research and often know exactly what they want before speaking to an installer. If that option is not available, there is a risk they will go elsewhere. We are already seeing door manufacturers offering complete, high-specification solutions that include smart locking as standard, so there is definitely demand.

A common perception is that smart locking systems are complex to manufacture, install or maintain. In reality, these systems have been designed with fabrication and installation at the forefront. FUHR’s SmartAccess module integrates directly into the multipoint lock, removing the need for additional hardware or complicated wiring.

From a fabrication perspective, features such as test mode allow the complete door system to be fully checked before it leaves the factory. This can be done without storing biometric data, and once test mode is removed, all data is cleared. It gives fabricators confidence that everything is working as intended.

Installation is also

simpler than often assumed. These systems form part of the door set, with an integrated power supply. On site, a qualified electrician simply connects the power, much like any other building service.

Alongside SmartAccess, FUHR also launched its latest development in biometric access at Fensterbau. The SmartAccess multiscan fingerprint scanner provides a simple and secure way to unlock a door using biometric authentication, managed via the SmartAccess app and communicating directly with the SmartAccess module fitted to the door lock. With no Wi-Fi, cloud or external data storage, all encrypted biometric data remains securely stored within the door itself. The system incorporates liveness detection, the sensor reliably detects whether a finger is “alive.” This virtually eliminates the possibility of tampering with fake fingers. It also has an extremely low false acceptance rate, making unauthorised access, to all intents and purposes, as unlikely as winning the lottery, while still offering intuitive, everyday operation for homeowners.

Continuing to evolve Biometric technology is not new, but its use within domestic door locking continues to evolve. There is also a noticeable difference in attitudes between the UK and other European markets. Across much of Europe, homeowners are more accustomed to investing in higher specification door systems, with smart and biometric access seen as part of a more premium and wellconsidered solution, much the way our homeowner market is developing.

In the UK, there can still be hesitation. Yet this contrasts with wider consumer behaviour. We trust fingerprint and facial recognition technology to access phones and banking without question.

When applied to

door locking, the same technology can feel unfamiliar rather than untrusted as we’re not used to this technology in fenestration – despite the apps being extremely intuitive.

International stage for market ambitions R eturning to Hall 4, Hoppe occupied a prominent space at this year’s Fensterbau Frontale. The company used its appearance to present a broad view of its hardware offer, from window handles and core ranges through to newer developments including smart home options, MiniLock non-keyed locking technology and the exclusive Venezia and Firenze series from the duravert line.

Within that wider showcase, Arrone, a Hoppe Group brand, had its own dedicated area, giving it a clear presence on an international stage – helping to raise its profile with both established customers and visitors from newer markets.

For fabricators, distributors and specifiers, the appeal of Arrone is practical with dependable products backed by consistent testing, certification and a level of robustness that supports specification with confidence.

Seen together, the products on display showed Arrone as a viable door hardware offer that not only complements the Hoppe Group portfolio but also stands as an attractive proposition in its own right.

Security and style One such example featured was the TS008:2022-tested letterplate which helps protect homeowners from so-called ‘letterbox fishing’.

Suitable for 44-54mm doors, the AR708HS features an anti-theft steel guard with a slimline cover on the inside that offers a more discreet finish. With a projection of just 21mm, the cover provides non-restrictive door opening, even when fully opened.

It is also part of a wider suited door furniture range allowing a secure option that fits in seamlessly with a coordinated look.

When fitted with the associated Arrone intumescent kit the letterplate is supported

by Certifire certification for use on 30- and 60-minute timber doors.

Problem solving Also on show was the new AR227 split spindle designed to address challenges faced when installing apartment locks.

Specifically developed to improve the installation process of the AR915 mortice apartment lock, it uses an innovative clip-fix split spindle.

As well as reducing installation times, this removes the risk of overtightening

during assembly, which was a common problem with a traditional type of split spindle which requires the two halves to be screwed together manually.

In recognition of the innovative work behind the split spindle, it has been shortlisted in the ‘Product Design and Innovation’ category at the GAI AI Specification Awards.

Hidden designs A more design-led talking point came from the AR8990 40kg and 60kg concealed hinges for internal doors.

Offering an invisible hardware solution, they are installed within the door and frame rather than on the surface. Increasingly favoured in minimalistic interior design trends, the hinge remains hidden when the door is closed to provide a seamless and uninterrupted finish.

When the door is open, black and silver colour options help maintain a contemporary appearance that can be coordinated with surrounding décor and other hardware.

When adding a third hinge, they can also be suitable for doors weighing up to 60kg and 80kg respectively, allowing greater flexibility when heavier doors are specified but the project still requires clean sightlines.

With 3D adjustability and tested to BS EN1634-1 for 30 minutes using the relevant intumescent kit, the AR8990 is a a practical

option where safety, adjustability and appearance all matter.

The Arrone appeal The company’s presence in Nuremberg elevated Arrone to a global audience alongside the familiar Hoppe name.

It reinforced the brand’s credentials in areas such as quality, testing and reliability, and signalled its intention to build stronger recognition in markets where those strengths may be less familiar.

Industry-first PAS 24 TS008 letterplate for 28mm PVC-U panels

urst has launched a new TS008-compliant letterplate designed specifically for 28mm PVC-U panels. The first of its kind on the market. This now enables a fully PAS 24-compliant doorset when used in a tested configuration with Hurst’s Securicore™ panel.

Until now, there was no TS008-accredited letterplate available for a standard 28mm PVC-U panel. As a result, installers couldn’t offer a fully compliant PAS 24 doorset in this category because the letterplate element of the test couldn’t be satisfied.

Hurst’s new design fills that gap, completing the last missing component needed for a fully compliant, fully tested PAS 24 PVC-U panel doorset.

“Another true ‘Hurst is first’, as we are pleased to be able to offer a TS008-compliant letterplate to complement our Securicore™ panel in a PAS 24-tested doorset,” said Kevin Wheatman, Director & General Manager at Hurst. “This is a truly unique offering from Hurst.”

A major challenge in meeting TS008 is allowing a standard DVD-sized package to pass through the letterplate while still preventing “fishing” attacks.

For 28mm panels, adding a TS008 security cowl previously made this impossible with existing designs. Hurst’s new solution allows the package to pass while still delivering the enhanced security performance required.

“The plate was developed because, quite simply, one didn’t exist,” Kevin added.

“Without it, we couldn’t offer a fully compliant PVC-U front door with a letterplate.

“Our unique design overcomes the delivery restriction that made TS008 unattainable on 28mm panels, meaning a complete PAS 24-tested and SBD-ready doorset can now be achieved.”

When installed as part of a full test with the Securicore™ panel, the new letterplate enables the doorset to meet PAS 24. A major milestone for a product category that has traditionally been locked out of higher-security specifications.

Installers can now supply PAS 24 and Secured by Design-ready PVC-U panel doors into new-build, social housing and other security-driven sectors where full doorset compliance is essential.

He is someone who has always given his very best to the business, to his colleagues and to our customers. Those qualities, alongside his calm manner and willingness to support others, have made him widely liked and respected across the company and the wider industry.

Phil Parry says the Future Homes Standard has clarified the path for the new build sector, introducing stricter compliance rules

Future Homes Standard signals major shift W ith the publication of the Future Homes Standard, the direction of travel for the new build sector is now unmistakably clear. Phil Parry, Technical Director at Epwin Window Systems, explains why this moment reinforces an approach Profile 22 has championed for many years.

When the eagerly awaited Future Homes Standard was published, much of the industry reaction focused on what was changing. For me, the more important question was what it confirms.

The emphasis is no longer just on meeting generic target U-values, but on evidencing an area weighted performance across every individual window and door configuration supplied into the building envelope. It represents a fundamental shift in how compliance is demonstrated and one that will reshape specification decisions across the industry.

Closing the gap on performance For a long time, there has been a nonintentional gap between theoretical performance and what is actually delivered on site. Standard window sizes and simplified calculations have been used as a benchmark, but they don’t always reflect the complexity of modern installations. What the Future Homes Standard does is close that gap.

The move to the Home Energy Model means that every individual window must now be assessed based on its actual size, specification and components. That includes everything within the aperture, including frame extensions, cills, Georgian bars, non-structural couplers etc. It’s a far more accurate way of measuring performance, but it also raises the bar significantly for the entire supply chain.

This is where the challenge begins.

Smaller windows, more complex designs and additional features all have an impact on thermal performance. Achieving a 1.2 W/m2K notional target could become far more demanding when you move away from the ‘standard calculation window’ and start working across typical project specifications.

And that’s why we are already seeing conversations around triple glazing becoming more prominent.

From a Profile 22 perspective, however, this isn’t a sudden shift. It’s something we have been preparing for over many years.

Long before the latest changes to

Approved Document L were introduced, our focus has been on delivering consistent, proven performance across a wide range of window and door specifications, not just optimised test scenarios. That means designing products that perform just as effectively in smaller apertures, more complex formats and fully featured window styles as they do in standard configurations.

It’s one of the reasons Profile 22 has become one of the UK’s most widely specified PVC-U window and door systems.

The award-winning system has always been designed with performance, versatility and compliance in mind, giving fabricators confidence that what they manufacture will stand up to both regulatory scrutiny and customer expectations.

In many ways, the Future Homes Standard simply validates that approach.

That means offering flexibility across design, supporting a wide range of specifications and delivering reliable performance without adding unnecessary complexity to the fabrication process.

The Future Homes Standard will undoubtedly change how windows and doors are specified in new build. It will place greater emphasis on detail, accuracy and accountability and rightly so. But for those already working with systems designed to perform, it’s not a disruption. It’s an opportunity.

Rehau urges the industry to better promote its innovation to secure the next generation of skilled workers

Building the industry’s future workforce R ecruiting skilled workers within the fenestration industry is becoming increasingly challenging and those within the sector are aware that it needs to do more to attract talent.

The industry is more innovative and selfreliant than those outside of the sector give it credit for, but it must do more to highlight the breadth of innovation, technical expertise and career pathways it offers if it is to address the growing skills shortage.

Fenestration is still widely overlooked by young people and those looking to change careers, who often opt for more traditional and better promoted engineering, defence and construction roles.

This presents both a challenge and an opportunity. With the right engagement, the industry has the potential to attract a new generation of skilled professionals who are looking for hands-on, problem-solving roles that combine high levels of detail with realworld application.

Rehau has been actively involved in supporting skills development through its role with the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) in Hereford. NMITE offers a practical, projectbased engineering degree designed to better reflect the needs of the modern industry.

“NMITE’s approach aligns closely with the reality of working life,” said Martin Hitchin, CEO of Rehau UK. “Students are hands-on from day one, learning how to apply engineering principles rather than just studying them in theory. That practical mindset is exactly what the fenestration industry needs but explaining that to people outside the sector is where we fall short.”

Through its close links with NMITE, Rehau has seen first-hand how exposure to industry can shape career choices. Many students enter engineering degrees without a clear understanding of fenestration but once they are introduced to the sector, they can see the depth and variety of opportunities available.

One such example is Dan James, a recent NMITE graduate who joined Rehau last year after completing his studies. As someone interested in hands-on engineering and problem solving, Dan was drawn to a role that allowed him to apply technical knowledge in a practical environment.

“I wanted to work somewhere where I could really understand how things work, not just at a surface level,” said Dan. “At Rehau, there’s a high level of technical detail, and a real emphasis on learning

and development. It’s a great fit for people like me, who enjoy understanding systems inside out.”

Dan’s day-to-day role involves responding to customer technical queries, supporting complex project journeys, and assisting the technical product management team.

He believes these varied responsibilities demonstrate just how diverse roles in the fenestration sector can be.

“Before joining the industry, my only knowledge of the fenestration industry came from White Gold!” he added. “In reality, there’s a great mix of creativity, engineering, digital tools and collaboration across international teams. It’s not a static or boring industry at all.”

During the graduate scheme, Dan was supported through structured training, including opportunities to visit facilities overseas. He spent time in Germany, as

well as visits to sites in Poland and Mexico with his graduate cohort, helping him build technical understanding while forming strong relationships across the wider Rehau business.

“Seeing how products are made, meeting people across the organisation and understanding different markets makes a huge difference,” said Dan. “It gives you a much broader perspective and helps you develop confidence quickly.” Rehau believes the industry must be more proactive in promoting itself to students and careerchangers. The company offers process and engineering roles to apprentices at its plant in Blaenau Ffestiniog and recycling facility in Runcorn. Since 2024, it has partnered with Building our Skills which is doing vital work to try and address the skills gap in the industry. Initiatives like these, as well as greater engagement at job fairs, stronger links with educational institutions, and clearer messaging around what a career in the fenestration industry looks like could all help shift perceptions.

“There’s a tendency to undersell ourselves - fenestration is innovative, resilient and full of opportunity for people who want to build meaningful, technical careers”, Martin concluded. “We need to be more vocal about that if we want to secure the skills our industry depends on.”

How is PVC-U responding to the growing presence of aluminium?

A

ffordable Windows Group (AWG) operates across both PVC-U and aluminium, with their Timberlook brand representing heritage PVC-U innovation and Decorio leading in heritage aluminium design. This dual perspective provides a clear view of how both materials are evolving in response to changing market demand. As Amelia Gaughan, Head of Marketing at Affordable Window Systems, explains: “For the first time in over 15 years, PVC-U hasn’t tried to keep pace with aluminium — it has overtaken it in, especially in the heritage sphere. Eurocell expands PVC-U recycling network to 142 branches

E

urocell, the UK manufacturer and recycler of PVC-U window and door systems, has significantly expanded its post-consumer PVC-U recycling programme, rolling the service out to a further 53 branches to create a 142-strong national network for the trade.

The expansion introduces the service to Scotland for the first time, with Eurocell branches in Edinburgh, Edinburgh West, Falkirk, Glasgow, and Glasgow East now actively participating in the scheme.

Despite PVC-U being highly recyclable and having a potential lifespan of up to 350 years, installers and the trade have historically faced limited access to practical recycling routes. Bulky window and door frames present severe operational challenges on small sites, frequently resulting in: Expensive skip hire costs cutting into project margins; Time-consuming, unpaid trips to local tips; Valuable, recyclable materials ultimately being treated as general waste.

Working with Biffa and major regional waste management partners, including Rhinos, CTSR, D&G, Avon Reclamation, and PVC Collections, Eurocell is providing installers with a localised, highly efficient route to dispose of replacement materials.

Through the expanded network, trade customers can easily arrange domestic and smallload collections via their local branch or by phone. Material is collected, consolidated at regional transfer stations, and transported to Eurocell’s specialist recycling facilities in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and Selby, North Yorkshire, where it is reground and extruded to be manufactured into new window and door profiles.

Joy Naylor, Manufacturing & Recycling Director at Eurocell, said: “We know that dealing with old, bulky window frames is a massive operational headache and a growing cost for window and door installers and fitters. By expanding our recycling network to 142 branches, we are taking the hassle out of waste disposal.

“Our closed-loop system means the trade can drop off waste or arrange collections locally, saving them skip fees and time off the tools. Just as importantly, it gives our

installers a brilliant sustainability story to tell their homeowner customers, proving that the old windows they remove are being responsibly recycled right here in the UK, and going back into the manufacture of new PVC-U windows and doors at our manufacturing facility in Derbyshire.”

Returning with a strong steel message

Windows Active caught up with Paul Sullivan to discuss what he has been working on since returning to Anglo

t’s been three years since Paul Sullivan sold steel reinforcement specialist Anglo. In an unexpected move, he returned to the helm as managing director 10 months ago. We caught up with Paul to find out what he’s been working on since returning to the industry.

You have a strong message to get across to the industry. What would you like to say Paul?

It is so important for fabricators to understand that they have a choice about where they can get their steel from. And that choice is between their systems supplier, or from independent suppliers such as Anglo and our competitors.

Independents such as Anglo will always be in a position to give better deals – we have global networks established to ensure the best prices, no matter what is going on in the world. It’s not easy – we are constantly fighting for every penny. But this is our game. This is only what we do and we do it well.

It’s not an easy environment at the moment – the volatility in the world is affecting everyone throughout the supply chain. It is vital to remember that as steel specialists we have the contacts, knowledge and resources to be constantly sourcing the best solutions for our clients.

People forget but it was Anglo who changed the reinforcement demographic in the UK forever back in 1995... when all the fabricators had to put 2mm box section in the profile and you couldn’t pick the frame up!

We are all so busy it is difficult to take a step back and really evaluate what you want for yourself and your business. It took me a long time to realise that this was MY BUSINESS and this was MY MONEY....and I was going to make it go further. You can’t do that by conforming to the system company and their tactics all the time, they want to do the best for their shareholders not for your business.

A good analogy would be that Anglo offers BMW products but at Halfords prices. We can supply the exact same material grade for grade, coating for coating, but without the pomp and ceremony, we do it cheaper and faster and even cut it for free.

It is said that buying steel reinforcements from Anglo would invalidate any warranties on window and door products. What’s your response?

In Anglo’s 36 years of business, it has never had any warranty claim made against it. The 450 customers we have on our books – many of whom have been with us for many years – have never had any warranty issue. It’s just a fallacy.

If a window fabricator were to buy steel from you, what sort of savings would they be looking at?

Minimum 25% if dealing with their profile supplier, but that could be as high as 50%. Compared to our independent competitors, we are looking at anything between 17- 37% in savings. We’ve been carrying out market research since June last year to make sure we have our figures correct. And while the markets have become more volatile, we remain confident that we maintain those advantages.

What made you decide to come back to Anglo, Paul?

When I sold the business, it was an extremely strong, solid business that was making good money, with a loyal and committed customer base. I felt the need for a new challenge so invested elsewhere, but nothing quite excited me in the same way as the steel game. I was still seeking that sense of purpose when the opportunity came up to take back the helm.

I had left friends and colleagues here who I had worked brilliantly with for many years, and I could see that they were demotivated. I knew they were good at their jobs, and that Anglo was a company that had somehow lost its way. That sense of camaraderie with them was strong, so I decided to come back again.

You’ve been investing in the business since you rejoined last year – tell us a bit about what you’ve been up to.

We’re setting the company up for growth so increasing capacity by another 25%. This includes upgrading fleet, new machinery and roll forming equipment.

And on the customer service side, we’re also looking at staff training to help with the increase in sales. The business has committed partners who are keen to see it succeed in the long term, and are willing to put in the investment to make sure that happens both for the good of the industry as a whole, but also good for the business and those that work within it.

urst has added a stable door option to its growing S-Class composite range, offering installers and homeowners a traditional aesthetic combined with the solid-core performance of the wider S-Class portfolio.

The new design is available to order now through Hurst Live, giving customers full visibility over pricing, configurations and production progress.

The introduction of the S-Class stable door reflects ongoing investment in product development at Hurst and follows strong uptake of the S-Class range since its launch.

The stable door brings all the familiar characteristics of the system – a robust timber core, high structural integrity and a wide choice of styles and finishes – with the added practicality of a split-leaf design for controlled ventilation.

CO Manufacturing has appointed David Maybury to its board of directors as the Divisional Director of Clearview New Build, marking a significant milestone in the continued growth of the specialist new build division.

Artin’s specialisms include injection moulding, design for manufacturability as well as delivering innovative and costeffective solutions from conceptualization through to production. Artin said: “I’m delighted to be joining Glazpart and contributing to a company with a strong reputation for innovation in plastic injection moulding. I’m particularly excited with the opportunity to apply my experience in product development and design for manufacturability to support the creation of high-quality, efficient solutions for customers.”

Fabricator Dudley’s Aluminium has promoted Ben Leonard to Production Manager, recognising his commitment to the company and professional development over the last decade. Ben joined the team as an estimator in 2016 and progressed into procurement after three years, supporting the production team and project delivery.

Upon his promotion to Production Manager in March, Ben said: “I am excited to take on this new role and thank Dudley’s for this opportunity. The team has been incredibly supportive of my career progression over the last 10 years, particularly Nigel, my predecessor in this role. I look forward to building on the firm’s success.”
