Research launches

Keystone Signal:

powerful new online platform turns consumer data into clear direction Keystone Market Research has launched Keystone Signal, a new online software platform designed to transform the company’s comprehensive fenestration consumer research from static reports into actionable intelligence – helping installers apply targeted end-customer data directly at the point of sale and throughout the supply chain for product and marketing development.

insight easier to access, explore and apply to real-world business decisions, says the company.

Developed from Keystone Market Research’s extensive programme of consumer research, Keystone Signal brings together more than 22,000 consumer data points into one database, making detailed

Keystone Signal Sales has been developed to help installers better understand homeowners and guide them through product and style choices during the sales conversation.

4 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

The platform launches with two distinct applications: Keystone Signal Sales, an intuitive sales aid designed for installers and salespeople, and Keystone Signal Intelligence, a powerful data interrogation platform for product developers, manufacturers, suppliers and marketing teams.

Keystone’s latest consumer research found that just 7% of homeowners said that, when window or door salespeople visited their home, they addressed what mattered most to them and recommended styles that suited their taste very well. In the same survey, 91% of homeowners said that if two installation companies offered similar products, they would choose the company that better demonstrated an understanding of their needs and style, and 60% said they would still choose that company if it was more expensive. For installers, this creates a significant opportunity. Keystone Signal Sales uses insight from thousands of homeowners to help guide the conversation – supporting installers as they work with customers to identify preferences, narrow down choices and arrive at a specification that reflects what matters to that individual homeowner. This is particularly relevant to one of the frustrations repeatedly highlighted in Keystone’s installer research: homeowners often don’t

TRADE NEWS know exactly what they want, change their minds throughout the process and increasingly look to installers to support their decisionmaking. Rather than relying solely on instinct or presenting homeowners with an overwhelming range of choices, Keystone Signal Sales provides a simple, guided way to use consumer insight at the point of sale, supporting installers to build trust, increase sales and profitability. The second application, Keystone Signal Intelligence, takes Keystone’s consumer research beyond the traditional report. Rather than providing customers with a static document to read through, the platform allows users to explore and tailor the data to their own business applications. Users can analyse consumer preferences across a range of demographics, including age, gender, location, property type, property age, tenure and life stage. The data can then be broken down across product categories including windows, doors, glazing and extension roof styles, helping businesses understand the end-customer, identify growing opportunities, gaps in the market and changing priorities, for more targeted product and marketing development. Charlotte Hawkes, director at Keystone Market Research, said: “For data to be useful, it needs to be applied as easily as possible. Keystone Signal moves consumer data from static reports into a game-changing service that can be used both at the point of sale and at the point of product and marketing development – and tailored specifically to each company’s needs.” “Early on in our research, I could see the potential for this data to be used by installers in the home.

As we saw the statistics around homeowners not receiving the support they needed, it became even more apparent how much of an impact this could have if we could make the insight userfriendly and enable it to be tailored at the time of the conversation.” “Our installer research reinforced that opportunity. Time and time again, installers told us that one of the frustrations in the industry today is that homeowners don’t always know what they want, change their minds repeatedly and look to the installer to guide their decision-making. Keystone Signal Sales helps address this by leading the installer and homeowner through the choices that thousands of similar homeowners have made, leading to a confident specification seamlessly.” “At the same time, through our Intelligence model, we’re putting all the data directly into users’ hands. Instead of a static report to read through, users can tailor the data to their exact requirements.” “I’m incredibly proud of this latest launch. Keystone Signal Sales is an intuitive sales aid that I believe can be a game-changer for installers – helping them demonstrate a genuine understanding of their customers’ needs and style, build trust and ultimately increase profitability. And Keystone Signal Intelligence is an exciting step forward for our wider market data, allowing users to explore more than 22,000 consumer preference data points through a very simple process.” “Together, the Keystone Signal platform creates a powerful new way for fenestration businesses to use consumer research, turning complex data into a clear direction for sales, product and marketing decisions.” For more information about Keystone Signal, or to book a demonstration, visit www.keystonemr.co.uk

Windows marks first

year of fabrication with expanded factory

and growing team

AluFold Windows is celebrating one year of fabrication at its factory at Whitebirk Industrial Estate – a year marked by significant expansion, a growing 35-strong team and the addition of uPVC manufacturing, says the company. The supply-only fabricator moved into its Blackburn facility in August 2025, initially focused exclusively on aluminium windows and doors. Just over 12 months later, AluFold has expanded its manufacturing footprint by more than 60%, from 56,457 sq/ft to 90,407 sq/ft, claims the company. The additional space has enabled the business to introduce a dedicated uPVC factory, increase production capacity and create a new despatch area to support its growing customer base. AluFold now fabricates both aluminium and uPVC glazing systems, with its uPVC offering manufactured exclusively using Eurocell systems. This expanded range gives installers and contractors access to a wider choice of products through one supply-only fabrication partner, according to the company. alufoldwindows.co.uk WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 5

More than 12,500 UK window and door companies buy in sealed units, Insight Data reveals allowing manufacturers to identify and prioritise the prospects most relevant to them.

New analysis from Insight Data has identified more than 12,5001 window and door companies across the UK that buy in insulating glass units (IGUs) rather than manufacturing their own. The findings highlight the scale of the addressable market for sealed unit manufacturers at a time when supply relationships across the sector are coming under renewed scrutiny. Insight Data’s specialist Fenestration database distinguishes between companies that manufacture sealed units in-house and those that source them externally, giving suppliers a detailed picture of the market and where potential opportunities exist. The data goes further than simply identifying businesses. Insight Data also records estimated production and purchasing volumes, company size, product activity, key decision makers and other commercial intelligence, 6 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

Andrew Scott, founder and CEO of Insight Data, said: “The IGU sector has consolidated significantly in recent years with the rise of automation and economies of scale, but there are still thousands of window and door companies buying-in sealed units. Knowing who they are, what they buy and the likely volumes involved is what turns market potential into a genuine sales opportunity. “Markets change quickly. When they do, suppliers need accurate intelligence that allows them to respond immediately rather than relying on historic customer lists or waiting for enquiries to arrive.” The information is available through Insight Data’s Salestracker platform, enabling users to segment the market, identify relevant contacts and target prospective customers through sales and marketing activity. Insight Data continuously researches and updates businesses throughout the UK fenestration sector, providing suppliers with a live view of the companies operating within their target markets. LeadMaximiser join New AI-powered tool gives fabricators full visibility of every lead handed to installers. Fabricators across the UK invest heavily in generating consumer interest for their installer networks, yet once those leads leave the building, most have little idea what happens next. LeadMaximiser, the latest product from thinkivity’s The Glazing Hub, has been launched to change that. Thinkivity says the new tool allows any company that hands out leads to its customers to manage the entire process and see exactly what happens to every enquiry, from the moment

TRADE NEWS disappear. Some are never followed up. Others are quoted slowly and lost to a quicker competitor. And in the worst cases, a lead generated by one fabricator’s marketing ends up being used to sell another fabricator’s product. “Every fabricator I speak to shares the same frustration,” said Simon Monks, managing director of thinkivity. “They’re spending serious money to create interest in their products, and then the trail goes cold the moment the lead is passed on. If you can’t see what happens to a lead, you can’t measure the return on the money it cost to generate it.”

LeadMaximiser joins DocChecker, Notes2Quotes and GlazingBot in The Glazing Hub line-up, the platform built to bring reliable, industry-specific AI to the window, door and glazing sector. The problem it tackles is one that comes up time and again for fabricators and system houses. Marketing budgets are spent driving homeowners to websites, showrooms and campaigns, and the resulting leads are handed out to installers in good faith. Too often, those leads simply

LeadMaximiser closes that gap. Fabricators can see which installer received each lead, whether it has been contacted, quoted and converted, and how long each stage took. For the first time, lead generation can be judged on real outcomes rather than guesswork. Visibility is only half of the story. Built into LeadMaximiser is an AI agent that helps fabricators distribute leads in the most effective way. By learning from how each installer performs – how quickly they respond, how often they convert and how well they look after the homeowner – the agent recommends where each new lead should go, on a product by product basis, so enquiries land with the installers most likely to turn them into orders. The same insight allows fabricators to reward their topperforming installers with more of the leads they have proven they can convert, creating a fairer and more motivating system across the whole network. “This is where the AI really earns its place,” said Elton Boocock, founder of thinkivity,

who leads product development for The Glazing Hub. “It isn’t about replacing the relationship between a fabricator and its installers. It’s about giving the fabricator the information to make better decisions, and making sure the installers who do the best job are the ones who get rewarded for it. Better distribution means more leads converted, and more leads converted means a better return on every pound spent on marketing.” Crucially, installers do not need any additional software for LeadMaximiser to work. There is no new system to learn and nothing extra to log into, removing one of the biggest barriers to getting an entire installer network on board. For installers using Business Pilot, the leading CRM platform for the glazing industry, the process goes a step further. Through a connection between the two systems, the whole process is automated: leads flow straight into the installer’s CRM and their progress is reported back to the fabricator, with no re-keying of information and no chasing for updates, says thinkivity. “The Business Pilot integration means that for a large part of the industry, the whole thing just happens,” Elton added. “The installer carries on working the way they always have, and the fabricator finally gets the picture they’ve never had.” Simon concluded: “Lead generation is a big investment for fabricators. LeadMaximiser means they can finally see what that investment is delivering, and make sure every lead works as hard as possible.” Businesses that distribute leads to installers can find out more and book a demonstration at www.theglazinghub.com WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 7

LSF Commercial bucks fenestration slowdown with busiest summer in years Commercial aluminium systems specialist LSF Commercial is defying a wider slowdown in the fenestration market, reporting turnover ahead of last year, a growing customer base and a summer so busy it called for significant overtime across the factory floor, according to the company. While many fabricators report a quieter market, the Essex-based company has taken on more new clients this year than in previous periods, with school project work proving particularly strong over the summer months. Director Onkar Toot puts the growth down to the breadth of 8 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

service LSF offers on commercial projects, from design and engineering through to fabrication and installation, all handled inhouse. “We’re seeing a market where a lot of businesses are quiet, but we’ve had one of our busiest years so far,” said Onkar. “New clients keep coming to us because we can take a project from the drawing board right through to completion ourselves. That’s a difficult thing to offer and it’s paying off.” Schools work made up a significant part of the summer workload, with LSF’s team taking on more education sector projects than in previous years, often

working to the tight deadlines that come with the summer holiday installation window. “Schools projects are unforgiving on timescales,” Onkar explained. “Everything must be installed before term starts. Our overtime this summer reflects just how much of that work landed on our desk, and the trust clients place in us to deliver it on time.” With 45 staff, thirty years of experience at its Rainham headquarters and recent investment tripling manufacturing capacity, LSF Commercial is well placed to keep growing through both its commercial and trade supply, says the company. “We’ve built a reputation for handling complex, bespoke commercial packages,” said Onkar. “This year has shown that reputation still counts for a great deal, even when the wider market is struggling.” lsfcommercial.co.uk

Hardware specialist Window Ware has recorded its best month for online sales since launching its new website this year, with recent trading proving that the investment is paying off for customers, says the company. More than 50% of Window Ware’s customer base now actively place orders through the website, often alongside phone and email orders, and manage their accounts online, compared to 33% five years ago. The figure marks a substantial climb since its launch and has been the foundation for a second record month running, according to the company. Sarah Binns, customer operations and marketing director at Window Ware, said: “We built the new site to give customers more control over how they order from us and improve their experience with us. Seeing our website hit a new high shows that it’s hitting the mark for customers.” The website was built to make life easier for fenestration

But Sarah is quick to stress that the rise in web orders isn’t about steering customers away from picking up the phone or emailing an order over. “Customers who want speed and automation can use the website, while those needing advice or interaction with our expert team can speak to real staff, and that’s fine by us,” she said. “Whatever works for the customer works for us.” “There’s been a shift across the industry since Covid where some suppliers moved to automated chat, making it hard to reach real people,” Sarah added. “We want to grow online without losing that human intelligence and accessible phone support our customers value. opposite. Sheerline has launched a new ‘Snap It. Send It. Enjoy’ giveaway aimed at installers of its popular S1 Roof Lantern. Running from Monday 21 September, installers are being invited to put their best S1 projects forward to win a £10 Greggs voucher. Entering the giveaway is easy. All participants need to do is take a photo of their S1 installation, send it to Sheerline, and once reviewed, they’ll receive a £10 Greggs voucher via email. There are several ways to enter – via the website, social media, or email. Rather than one main prize, installers have the chance to enter – and be rewarded – up to three times. Sheerline’s marketing director, Lee Renshaw, commented: “Aside from being a celebration of our S1 Roof Lantern, this giveaway has a dual purpose. We want to recognise the great work being carried out by installers up and down the country.” “Secondly, we sell thousands of S1s each year. We offer

However, updates have been released to ensure the S1 remains competitive such as the 3-way option. To mark this anniversary, Sheerline launched its S1 Still Unmatched campaign, which highlights a different feature or benefit of the S1 each month. The giveaway falls within the campaign and provides another opportunity to highlight how installerfriendly the product is, says the company. Jon Crohill, technical & design office manager, said: “Many of the features that enabled the S1 to stand out – aesthetics, security, strength, efficiency, and ventilation – are as relevant today as when it was first launched.” “This is a testament to the original design brief and illustrates what can be achieved with a bit of time and consideration. Rehau-FENS

partnership offe

uPVC window disp Rehau UK has partnered with the FENSA Recycling Scheme to offer installers across the UK free disposal and recycling for uPVC windows. More than 7,000 window frames have been collected and recycled through Rehau’s involvement in the scheme since it launched in February 2026. That’s the equivalent of an estimated 1000 homes – with all old windows recycled in the first four months of the partnership, according to the company. Run through Rehau’s recycling division, PVCR, the scheme gives installers a free, compliant route

TRADE NEWS plans to continue to grow in the future, says the company. It is a simple process where PVCR will collect your old (deglazed) windows from site removing them via recycling vehicles. Each collection is covered by a waste carrier’s licence and waste transfer note, ensuring installers have documented proof that their waste has been dealt with correctly. This point is incredibly important, because liability for fly-tipping frames lands on the installer who produced them, rather than the company that collected them. Ian Ward, purchasing manager at PVCR, said: “This has been a really successful launch, and the numbers are only part of the story. Every frame we collect through FENSA is material we secure directly, clean and put back into new Rehau windows, which is exactly the closed loop the industry keeps talking about.

posal and recycling for their end-of-life uPVC frames for those who want to save on waste disposal costs and support sustainability in the fenestration sector. Since February it has drawn 60 enquiries and brought 35 new customers into the collection network, many of them moving to regular weekly collections rather than one-off drops. The scheme also provides an easy way for installers to improve their sustainability credentials and carbon footprint, at no additional cost to the business, says the company. The 7,000 frames are material

kept out of landfill and, in Rehau’s case, returned to production through their closed-loop system. Frames collected from installers are brought back to PVCR’s plant in Runcorn, where they are shredded and cleaned through multiple sorting stages into a fine white granulate. That material then travels to Rehau’s manufacturing site in Blaenau Ffestiniog, where it becomes recycled compound used in the core of new Rehau window profiles. Old windows, in effect, become new ones. PVCR collects across the whole of the UK, from the Isle of Wight to the north of Scotland, through a network of satellite hubs where frames are stored before transport to Runcorn. Its national reach sets it apart, enabling installers almost anywhere in the country to take part. It’s a commitment to making recycling accessible to every window company in the industry that Rehau started 8 years ago and

“What I would say to installers is that this is really simple to get involved with, it’s free, and it gives you the paperwork to prove you are doing the right thing. We collect nationally, so wherever you are, we can almost certainly reach you. The more installers who join us, the more old windows we can keep out of landfill and turn into new ones.” With four months of collections behind it, Rehau expects the scheme to build steadily, and projects it could recycle in the region of 25,000 to 30,000 windows over its first full year – the equivalent of between 3,500 and 4,200 houses. That predicted expansion accompanies the consistent investment into PVCR’s recycling capacity, as Rehau works to keep more of its material within its own supply chain. Affordable Windows

Group’s Decorio now live on Tommy Trinder

Affordable Windows Group (AWG) has announced that its steel-look aluminium range, Decorio, is now available on Tommy Trinder’s Framepoint app, joining sister brand Timberlook to give installers instant, professional-looking quotes from just £1 a month. The subscription gives installers live pricing and ordering capability, alongside ‘stunning’ visuals that bring both the external and internal ranges to life on screen. In just a few clicks, homeowners can view the entire range of products, removing the guesswork that often slows down decisionmaking. Instead, accurate, instant pricing speeds up the entire quote-to-order process. Although homeowners can choose from over 200 RAL colours and BS numbers for Decorio systems, to simplify colour selection, the range will be available in four standard and six premium colours on the platform. Installers can also use Tommy Trinders’ new ‘Bring to Life’ feature which generates photorealistic images of a customer’s home fitted with their

chosen glazing. Amelia Gaughan, head of Marketing at AWG, said: “Adding Decorio to Tommy Trinder alongside Timberlook means our installer partners now have two heritage ranges available through one easy-touse, visually stunning platform and it’s available from just £1 a month. “The level of detail the app can achieve is incredible. It allows homeowners to choose how many transom bars they want and even brings their glazing to life with photos of their own home, which massively improves the sales process. It is a brilliant tool designed to turn enquiries into orders faster, giving our installer partners a competitive edge in a challenging market. “Timberlook installers have already secured more than £7.5million worth of orders through the app, which shows you just how easy it is to adopt and how effectively it converts. We’ve no doubt Decorio installers will see the same success.”

Endurance, the business behind Endurance Doors and Endurance Aluminium, has further strengthened its manufacturing and logistics capabilities. The company has invested into a new warehouse facility – named Nexus – which will improve operational efficiency and service levels for its nationwide network of installer partners whilst enhancing on-site safety for employees.

TRADE NEWS Commenting on the new facility, Chris Walton, group purchasing manager at Endurance said: “Taking on the new Nexus warehouse is about much more than simply adding additional space. It gives us the opportunity to rethink the way materials move through our operation and create a more efficient, controlled process from goods arriving on site right through to production. “Bringing our raw material stockholding together under one roof will give us much greater visibility and control over stock, while the new linefeed team will ensure that our production team has the materials it needs, when it needs them. “Ultimately, all of these improvements are focused on the same goal – creating a more efficient operation that enables us to deliver an even better and more reliable service to our installer partners.”

and service The new 11,500 sq. ft. facility at the company’s headquarters in Brigg, Lincolnshire, will provide Endurance with a dedicated central location for its raw material stockholding, supporting the continued development of the business and creating a more streamlined flow of materials into its production operation. A key benefit of the new Nexus warehouse will be the

consolidation of external supplier deliveries at a single point, significantly reducing vehicle movements across Endurance’s main production site and helping to create a safer working environment for employees. The move will also enable the business to introduce a dedicated linefeed team, responsible for transporting materials from the warehouse directly to the production lines in smaller, more frequent loads. The companys says for Endurance customers, this will translate into an increased FTA rate (first time stock availability), which will allow the business to drive towards an improved delivery OTIF and ultimately provide an enhanced level of service.

The new approach will reduce the amount of stock held within the existing production facility and support a smoother flow of work in progress through the factory. Greater stock accuracy will additionally allow the business to operate with leaner overall stock levels, releasing capital that can be reinvested into further improvement projects across the business. Concluding, Chris said: “This is an important investment in the infrastructure behind Endurance Doors and Endurance Aluminium. While our installer partners may not necessarily see the changes taking place behind the scenes, they will see the benefits through greater efficiency, availability and delivery performance. It’s another progressive step in ensuring that we are equipped to support our customers in the best way possible.” WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 17

they can choose those instead. That gives our installers a flexible sales conversation without complicated offer mechanics.” High Five also gives Apeer installers a natural reason to return to earlier enquiries or speak again to customers who may have delayed replacing their entrance door. The combination of added value and practical product benefits is designed to support sales without asking installers to compete on headline price alone. The five High Five upgrades include: High-security handle – a reinforced handle designed to resist common methods of attack, available in gold, chrome and satin silver, and supported by the Yale £3,000 antiburglary cylinder snap guarantee.

Apeer is giving its installer network a massive High Five in the shape of a new autumn promotion. High Five offers homeowners five security, energy-saving and style upgrades worth up to £1,000, at no extra cost. This gives Apeer installers much needed leverage in adding value to every quote for homeowners, rather than heavily discounting and ultimately devaluing the offering. The campaign follows the conclusion of Apeer’s highly successful Ultimate promotion and gives installers a fresh, straightforward offer to take into the important autumn sales period. High Five is available on traditional, contemporary and accessible Apeer70 doors across the UK and Ireland. Homeowners can choose all five upgrades for their chosen door or select only those that suit the property and their priorities. This gives installers scope to tailor the offer around the homeowner,

whether the main concern is security, keeping more heat inside the home or adding a seasonal finishing touch. “The response to Ultimate was excellent,” said Apeer CEO Asa McGillian. “It gave our installers something clear and valuable to put in front of homeowners and helped keep the Apeer brand visible at a time when every enquiry matters. “High Five takes the same straightforward approach into autumn. Security feels more immediate as the nights draw in, while householders are starting to think again about keeping the heat inside their homes. We are offering meaningful upgrades in both areas, together with the magnetic wreath holder that has proved so popular with homeowners. “The important part is choice. If a homeowner wants all five upgrades, they can have all five. If only one or two suit the project,

Built for Scotland:

Adapting manufacturing around the market

how Glazerite has adapted

Serving Scotland brings its own manufacturing requirements, with customer preferences and fitting methods influencing how products are produced at Glazerite’s Northwest division.

Scotland has become an important market for Glazerite, supported by an approach that takes into account the specific products, manufacturing requirements and delivery needs of customers across the country.

Factory glazing is a significant part of the operation.

to a growing market Since Glazerite was established in Wellingborough 25 years ago, the business has expanded its manufacturing footprint further north through a combination of acquisition and organic growth. That expansion has helped Glazerite build its presence in Scotland, with its Northwest division playing a key role in serving customers across the region. For Jeff Dunn, group sales & commercial director at Glazerite,

developing the Scottish market has also drawn on many years of personal experience. “Scotland has been a big part of my sales career for the whole of my career,” Jeff says. “The business was keen to move into Scotland and partner with some large Scottish customers. When we took on Glazerite Northwest, it gave us a division that could supply Scotland and work in the way our customers there need us to.”

20 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

Glazerite employs three to four fulltime glaziers at the site to support the volume of glazed products being supplied to Scottish customers. “We sell a lot more glazed product from this site,” Jeff explains. “The Scottish market tends to fit slightly differently, using timber frames and straps, so we’ve adapted the site to work well for our Scottish customers.” Product demand also differs. Scotland operates under its

TRADE NEWS own building regulations, which influence the types of windows specified for certain applications. As a result, Glazerite’s Northwest division manufactures a higher proportion of tilt and turn and fully reversible windows for Scotland. These products allow windows to be cleaned from inside the property, supporting the requirements of the Scottish market. “We sell an awful lot more tilt and turn windows and fully reversibles in Scotland,” Jeff says. “The Northwest division produces far more of those products than any other site in the Group.” Building experience into production Tilt and turn and fully reversible windows can require more time and expertise during manufacturing due to their design. For Glazerite, building experience with these products at the Northwest division has allowed the team to establish an efficient manufacturing process around the needs of its Scottish customer base. That means tilt and turn windows can move through the site on the same lead time as casement windows. “Tilt and turns are more complicated to make, so they take a little bit longer in manufacturing,” Jeff explains. “But they go through this site at the same lead time as a casement because the team is very familiar with working with the Scottish market.” That familiarity is important as Glazerite’s presence in Scotland continues to grow. By developing the manufacturing

capability of the Northwest division around the products its customers regularly order, the business can support volume alongside the specialist requirements of the market. Delivering across Scotland Manufacturing the right products is one part of the picture. Getting them to customers across Scotland is equally important. Multiple vehicles from Glazerite’s Northwest fleet travel into Scotland two to three times a week, with haulage operating across the border four days out of five. Some of Glazerite’s larger Scottish customers require at least two deliveries every week. “The Scottish market has been a very successful area for Glazerite and it’s still growing,” Jeff says. “Some of our larger customers need at least two deliveries a week, so we’ve got haulage running into Scotland four days out of five.” The delivery network is designed to respond to customer order volumes, giving installers the ability to increase the frequency of deliveries when required. For Jeff, that flexibility gives customers confidence that Glazerite has the capacity to support their requirements as their own businesses grow. “If they have one delivery a week and they need two, they’ll get two. If they need three, they’ll get three,” he says. “Whatever they have ordered, we will deliver. We’ll keep sending trucks if they keep sending orders.” From the border to the Highlands and Islands The geographical reach of the operation demonstrates how far Glazerite’s Scottish customer base

has developed. Deliveries from the Northwest division travel as far north as Peterhead and Inverness, while Glazerite also supplies customers in Orkney by transporting products to the docks for onward delivery. For customers operating across such a wide geographical area, having access to regular deliveries can play an important role in managing workloads and keeping projects moving. “We’ve got haulage running right into the north of Scotland,” Jeff says. “We’re running up to Peterhead and Inverness, and we supply into Orkney by dropping at the docks. If the customer has the volume and they want to deal with Glazerite, we will deliver.” Growing with our customers Glazerite’s development in Scotland demonstrates the value of understanding the individual requirements of a market and building the operation around them. From increasing factory glazing capacity and manufacturing higher volumes of tilt and turn and fully reversible windows to developing regular delivery routes across Scotland, the Northwest division has evolved alongside its customer base. As demand continues to grow, that experience gives Glazerite a strong platform to support existing customers while developing further relationships across the Scottish market. For Jeff, the opportunity is clear. “Scotland has been a very successful area for Glazerite. We’re delighted that it’s grown and it’s still growing,” he concludes. www.glazeritewindows.co.uk WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 21

guides to help customers

prepare for Future Homes Standard Epwin Window Systems has published two new practical guides to help customers understand the forthcoming Future Homes Standard and what the changes will mean for the specification and thermal performance of windows and doors. The new guides cover Epwin Window Systems’ PVC-U brands – Profile 22, Spectus and PatioMaster – alongside a separate guide for Stellar Aluminium, giving customers clear, accessible information on the changes to Building Regulations and the implications for the fenestration sector. The Future Homes Standard sets out the intention that all new-build homes are built with low-carbon heating and high levels of energy efficiency. For fenestration, the key changes

are within Approved Document L (Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions) Volume 1: Dwellings and include changes to the way U values are calculated, building control notification and how the regulations are enforced. Gerald Allen, head of marketing at Epwin Window Systems, said: “The Future Homes Standard represents an important change for the industry and, understandably, customers have questions about what it will mean for their businesses.” He added: “As a systems company, our role goes beyond developing products that meet changing regulatory requirements. It is also about giving our customers the information and support they need to understand those changes and prepare for them. These two guides bring the key

22 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

Under the new regulations, the U value of a window or door will need to reflect its exact size and configuration, rather than being based on a standard window configuration. This means elements including cills and thresholds, frame extenders, dummy sashes, dummy transoms and mullions, decorative glazing bars and non-load-bearing coupling components will need to be incorporated into the calculation where applicable. Gerald commented: “This is a significant change because the thermal calculation will need to reflect the window or door that is actually being supplied. The different elements within a product configuration will therefore become increasingly important when assessing its overall performance. Our guides explain these changes in practical terms so customers can start understanding what they need to consider well ahead of implementation.” The new regulations come into force on 24 March 2027, with transitional arrangements in place, while those relating to higher-risk buildings take effect from 24 September 2027. The guides also cover requirements for replacement windows and doors in existing homes, building control notification and enforcement, giving customers a useful overview of the key changes they need to understand. Both guides are available to download now via the company’s Connect portal.

Morley Glass & Pellini: Shaping

the UK integral blinds

market for over 20 years When Morley Glass took the decision to begin manufacturing integral blinds in the UK over two decades ago, they were not responding to demand – they were creating it. At a time when the market was small and fragmented, the company’s decision to partner with Italian systems specialist Pellini S.p.A set a new benchmark for quality and service. Today, their enduring partnership has defined what installers and fabricators in the UK now expect from integral blinds here. 24 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

(L-R) Pellini S.p.A.’s Alessandro Pellini, Commercial Director; Alfredo Bonvino, Area Manager and Hana Pávková, General Manager of Pellini CZ, with the senior team from Morley Glass – Jess Owens, Office Manager; Ian Short, Managing Director; and Kevin Murphy, General Manager.

In the early 2000s, when the first integral blind units with ScreenLine systems inside left the Morley Glass factory, the products were largely unknown in the UK. The concept of fitting Venetian or pleated blinds inside a double glazed unit seemed almost too good to be true. The scepticism in the market at that time also wasn’t helped by the

Unlocking the potential of ScreenLine systems

fact, amongst the handful of window and door installers who had been involved in projects with integral blinds, many had experienced problems. The partnership Morley Glass and Pellini have formed over 22 years has turned that perception on its head. By demonstrating that high quality integral blind units can be manufactured to order in the UK and delivered to site within lead times as short as 10-12 working days, complete with a robust system-backed five-year warranty, Morley Glass has helped to create a whole new market that has given installers a valuable additional revenue stream.

One of the most important factors in Morley Glass’s success in developing the integral blinds market and taking quality and performance to a level previously not seen in the UK is the ScreenLine integral blinds brand. This range of integral blind systems developed by Pellini is a worldleader for good reason, sold to manufacturers like Morley Glass in over 50 countries as diverse as India and Brazil, continues to set the standard as Ian Short, managing director of Morley Glass explains: “ScreenLine systems represent everything you’d expect from a leading European manufacturer, with added Italian design flair. As windows and doors have become more featurepacked over recent years, discerning buyers are more aware of products like integral blinds – but they are also keen to ensure the products they purchase are going to meet their

expectations. That means quality and aesthetics matter more than ever, making ScreenLine integral blinds an unrivalled choice.” Setting a new standard for service Prior to Morley Glass entering the market, one of the biggest issues that installers faced when sourcing integral blinds was the slow or poor service many had experienced. To overcome this, Ian and his team built a business which carefully considered how to optimise every stage of the customer journey. By putting themselves in the shoes of customers, they could put processes in place that meant speed and quality of service would be a world away from what came before. Ian continues: “For quality products to succeed long term, they have to be backed by excellent service – and that’s always been our other major focus. In addition to ensuring our team are skilled at manufacturing WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 25

to many other shading and privacy solutions. And it shows how valuable the strength and longevity of the Pellini and Morley Glass partnership is to the market. Alessandro Pellini adds, “The fact that they have supplied hundreds of thousands of glazed units over two decades to the best window makers and fitters in the country, and developed new solutions and applications for the residential and commercial domains in association with Pellini, shows the contribution that they have made to growing the integral blinds market – both in the UK and internationally.

Pushing the boundaries in integral blind technology In addition to facilitating sustainable growth for Morley Glass, the partnership has helped Pellini develop too, according to Alessandro Pellini, commercial director of Pellini S.p.A.: “As we mark 22 years of partnership with Morley Glass & Glazing, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely celebrate the symbiotic relationship that we have built in the supply of our integrated blind systems, which has contributed to the growth of both companies’ businesses and to the increase in the market’s demand for this technology. “When, back in 2004, Morley Glass decided to invest in knowledge, production equipment, promotional tools and a service team entirely dedicated to an, until then “minor” asset for glassworks – namely integral blinds, no one could have predicted that the company would become not only the UK’s sales leader but also a trendsetter in this field.” Given the volumes of integral blind units that Morley Glass manufactures, it is ideally positioned to provide installer feedback to shape future developments. These codeveloped products help meet the demands for Morley Glass in the UK market, but they also offer opportunities for Pellini globally. Amongst the most recently

A partnership that keeps building The co-development of the SV+ demonstrates how ScreenLine integral blinds have clear differentiators when it comes to more closely meeting customer needs and tastes compared

26 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

“The partnership between the two companies has always been based on mutual trust, the commitment to excellence and quality, and a shared vision whereby integral blinds can be an effective and exclusive way of protecting buildings from unnecessary heat and light gains, as well as ensuring privacy, hygiene and a look that suits every living and working environment. “Morley Glass & Glazing’s confidence in Pellini throughout these years has been both an honour and a driving force behind our continued dedication. We are truly grateful to Ian Short and his team for the opportunity to support their way of working, which has served as a model to many Pellini clients worldwide, who were looking for best practices to succeed in the promotion of ScreenLine integrated blind systems. “As we look ahead, we do so with enthusiasm and renewed commitment, confident that the foundation we have built will continue to support even greater achievements in the years to come.” Find out more at www.morleyglass.co.uk

Think twice before you follow that trend

White uPVC reflects most wavelengths of light, meaning less energy is absorbed and converted into heat. Darker colours do the opposite – absorbing light energy and converting it into heat, causing the frame to expand. If a frame expands beyond its tolerance, it can bind sashes, bow, and cause seal and hardware failure. “It is one of those situations where the outcome looks great right up until it doesn’t,” continues Dave. “By the time problems appear, the warranty is gone and the homeowner is facing repair or replacement costs they were not expecting and are unfortunately responsible for.”

Social media is full of home improvement ideas. A quick search on TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook reels will surface hundreds of videos promising simple upgrades to transform the look of your property – painted window frames for a contemporary aesthetic, bigger glazed areas for more natural light, dark finishes to modernise a tired exterior. Some of these ideas can be perfect to refresh or glow-up your home. Some, however, carry technical consequences that can bring unexpected issues. For homeowners considering changes to their windows and doors, the gap between what looks good online and what works in practice can be significant – and costly. “We see the results of decisions made without proper technical consideration more often than you might expect,” says Dave Mechem, managing director of RISA. “A homeowner sees something on social media, thinks it’s a straightforward change they can make themselves, and carries it out

without understanding how it might affect the performance, warranty, or compliance of their installation.” Painting your window frames Perhaps the most common DIY impulse RISA encounters is the decision to paint uPVC window frames – typically from white to a darker colour such as grey, green, or black. The appeal is tempting. Dark-framed windows are fashionable, and painting seems like a simple, cost-effective way to update a property’s appearance without the expense of replacement. Yet, the reality is much more complicated.

28 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

If you are considering updating the colour of your frames, speak to your original installer or manufacturer before picking up a paintbrush. If you want dark-coloured frames, the right route is to specify them that way from the start. Factory-finished dark frames are properly reinforced to handle the additional expansion – painting an existing white frame is not a like-for-like alternative. Surviving bigger windows in the heatwaves The trend for larger glazed areas, including full-height windows, expansive glass gables, and open-plan glazing is equally tempting. More glass means more light, connection to the outdoor green spaces, and modern glazing can be genuinely impressive. But size has consequences that are rarely discussed in the videos promoting the look.

TRADE NEWS Larger glazed areas can increase solar gain significantly. The same glass that floods a room with natural light in the winter can make it unbearable by midsummer. Thermal performance, shading, orientation, and ventilation all need to be considered before any decision is made. Building Regulations also impose specific requirements depending on the size and location of glazed areas. Changes that appear cosmetic can trigger compliance obligations that require careful navigation. Do your research The internet is not always wrong, but it rarely tells the full story. Before making any significant change to windows or doors, homeowners should speak to a qualified installer, check manufacturer guidance carefully, and understand the implications for compliance, warranty, and performance. Where there is genuine uncertainty, or where work has already been carried out and concerns have appeared, independent inspection provides the clarity needed to make informed decisions and establish the best remediation pathway.

AluK emphasises its Made in Britain status AluK is making its most definitive statement yet about its status as one of the few aluminium systems companies which is wholly based in the UK by joining the official Made in Britain network of trusted and transparent British manufacturers. AluK can now proudly display the instantly recognisable Made in Britain logo across its products, vehicles, packaging and marketing materials. Trade, retail and commercial customers will be left in no doubt about AluK’s commitment to the UK and the advantages that brings in terms of accessibility, responsiveness and supply-chain resilience, says the company.

“Our role is to establish the facts,” concludes Dave. “Whether that is confirming a modification is sound or identifying where things have gone wrong, independent assessment gives homeowners something that a social media trend never can – a reliable answer from a team of qualified experts.”

Becoming a member of Made in Britain network is much more than a tick box exercise. To qualify, manufacturers have to demonstrate that the products they manufacture undergo ‘a substantial and transformative change’ through manufacturing processes carried out in the Great Britain or Northern Ireland and that 100% of the labour involved in that process is based here.

For more information about RISA, please visit www.risaltd.co.uk

They also have to sign up to a Code of Conduct which covers operating standards, health

and safety, ethical conduct and environmentally responsible manufacturing. AluK’s managing director Russell Yates commented: “Becoming part of the Made in Britain network is a natural fit for AluK and reflects something that has always been fundamental to the way we operate. We’re proud that our customers are dealing with a business which is genuinely UK based, with manufacturing, technical, warehousing, sales and marketing all located here in the UK. “That matters because it means we can offer direct access to the people and expertise behind our systems, while also giving them confidence in the strength and resilience of our supply chain. “Made in Britain also aligns with our ongoing mission to campaign for more government support for this industry and the skilled jobs it supports and allows us to join another powerful group which is lobbying for the interests of British manufacturers and promoting sustainable economic growth.” https://uk.aluk.com WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 29

Northampton installer

Matt approached AWG about its Decorio range.

Windows were always adopts two Affordable Windows “Affordable so good at accommodating us

Group systems in three years In just three years, installer MG Window Systems has adopted two of Affordable Windows Group’s most popular window and door systems, all thanks to the manufacturers’ speed, reliability and ease of quoting and ordering. The Northampton business, trading since 1992, now fits both Timberlook and Decorio but the relationship started when it spotted the flush sash windows in quoting software Tommy Trinder, as Matt Munns, director at MG Window Systems, explains. “When I first spotted Timberlook

on Tommy Trinder, we looked closely at the windows and could see they ticked all the boxes. “For me, if you’re buying a flush fit window, you want it to look like a timber window, not something with an ugly trickle vent slapped on. Timberlook has mechanical joints and attractive concealed trickle vents complete with a hood. It was a no brainer that we wanted to sell these products to our customers.” Timberlook has become one of the installer’s biggest sellers so when delivery dates from its aluminium supplier started moving,

with Timberlook and providing free leads that when they launched Decorio, it made sense to see what they could do,” he adds. “We really liked the aluminium products, particularly the bi-fold doors. It’s the little things that make the difference – the gasket is built into the beads, which saves us time on site, and that’s not something every supplier offers. “Once we started installing Decorio, we knew we’d made the right decision. We had fewer issues with fitting, our lead times went down considerably and we had more confidence our deliveries would arrive on time.

TRADE NEWS The fact the system is now available on Tommy Trinder is another bonus as we now use just one platform for quoting our most popular products.” Three years in, Matt rates AWG’s service as highly as its products. “AWG is on another level with how they work with their clients,” he adds. “I’ve been so impressed with their customer service; it’s second to none. “That’s why, when we were hired a few years ago to complete a couple of big new build projects, we chose to work with AWG’s Timberlook range. We needed

roughly 500 frames for windows and doors that would complement the heritage and contemporary style of the housing development. Not only did we know the products would fit the bill, but we also had every faith that project would be completed on time and to a high standard – and the team at AWG were a big part of that.” Amelia Gaughan, head of marketing at AWG, said: “Matt originally came to us for flush sash, then trusted us with his aluminium too. That only happens when a manufacturer prioritises the installers needs from order through to delivery by providing free leads, installer friendly

The partnership comes at a time when installers continue to navigate developments across Building Regulations, construction product reform, competence and wider compliance requirements. Combining the resources available through the GGF with Rehau’s existing technical and product expertise will give Authorised Partners an enhanced support network to help them understand developments and prepare their businesses for change. Professional development will also form an important part of the combined offering. Rehau Authorised Partners already have access to Rehau training, CPD opportunities and product knowledge, while GGF Membership opens the door to further industry-specific training and development. Lauren Mawford GGF director said: “Running a successful installation business requires expertise across so many areas. Product knowledge and installation quality are fundamental, alongside keeping up with regulations, developing your people and understanding wider changes taking place across the industry.

TRADE NEWS “Bringing the support available through Rehau and the GGF closer together gives Authorised Partners access to an even broader pool of knowledge and expertise. We want these businesses to feel supported as they develop their teams, strengthen their professional credentials and continue delivering high standards for their customers.” Russell Hand, executive vice president at Rehau, said: “We see real value in providing Rehau Authorised Partners with preferential access to GGF Membership. This complements the support, training and technical expertise that Rehau already provides, while giving partners access to the wider benefits and representation offered by the GGF. Together,

Rehau and the GGF share a strong commitment to quality, professionalism and high industry standards, helping businesses demonstrate their credibility and deliver confidence to customers.” The two organisations will also create opportunities for greater engagement with Rehau Authorised Partners. Plans are being developed for a dedicated event bringing installers together with representatives from across the GGF, giving businesses the opportunity to learn more about Federation membership and hear directly from specialists covering technical matters, training and government advocacy. It’s about giving our partners both the products and the resources they need to communicate their value effectively.” The approach reflects Endurance’s wider Elevate Every Day philosophy, focused on developing products that make homes more beautiful, comfortable, practical and, importantly, secure, while helping Installer Partners communicate those benefits, generate leads and build stronger businesses. Endurance composite doors feature a 48mm solid timber core constructed from 17 engineered timber laminates, combined with ABS Master locking cylinders developed to resist recognised methods of attack, including snapping, picking, drilling and bumping. Selected doors can also be specified to meet Secured by Design requirements, with the compliant specification tested to PAS 24:2022 and incorporating the ABS Master locking cylinder, laminated glazing and a letterplate cowl.

With National Home Security Month returning this October, Endurance is encouraging its Installer Partners to use the campaign as an opportunity to start meaningful conversations with homeowners about the security of their windows and doors. As the darker evenings draw in, home security naturally moves higher up the consumer agenda. For installers, Endurance says this creates an opportunity not only to discuss security specifications, but also to demonstrate the tangible value and peace of mind that premium products can provide.

Scott Foster, group marketing director at Endurance, said: “National Home Security Month gives installers a natural reason to talk to homeowners about what really makes a secure window or door. “Security can be difficult to judge by appearance alone, so our Installer Partners have an important role to play in explaining what sits behind the specification and turning technical features into genuine homeowner benefits. “We support them with professional imagery, bespoke creative assets, video and

installation:

is it worth the risk? While DIY window installation may seem like an easy way for homeowners to save money, FENSA warns that getting it wrong can have costly consequences.

With no shortage of advice online about how to fit windows and doors, a DIY approach can be extremely tempting for handy homeowners looking to save money. But while

buying a window is relatively straightforward, ensuring it is installed correctly is considerably more complicated. “Anybody can go and purchase

a window or a door from a DIY centre, or over a trade counter,” says Sam Davies, technical manager at FENSA. “There’s nothing wrong with doing that, but there are significant risks associated with self-installation that need to be spoken about.” More than just fitting One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding window replacement is that the job simply involves removing the old frame and putting a new one in its place. In reality, however, there are important structural, safety and regulatory considerations that need to be

TRADE NEWS cause for concern. With safety a key priority, the location of a window can determine whether specialist glazing is required, particularly where there is a greater risk of impact. “You have to think about safety,” confirms Sam. “Is the window located in a critical safety area? Do you need to have safety glazing installed with that window?” In addition, a reputable, professional installer will assess the property and the proposed installation before work begins, ensuring the window opening is fit for purpose, among other important considerations. “You have to think about the structure of the property too,” says Sam. “Is the aperture correctly supported?” Further still, a replacement window may need to provide background ventilation, while the position of other installations, such as boiler flues, for example, must also be taken into account. addressed. “Replacing a window in the habitable areas of a home is classed as controlled work. That means homeowners need to consider how the work is notified and certified, as well as whether the installation complies with Building Regulations. “If you’re doing that without notification to the local authority, building control, or any level of certification, it would be technically defined as a criminal offence, which can result in prosecution or fines,” explains Sam. What could go wrong? But it’s not just the legal penalties of incorrect installation that give

While these issues may not be immediately obvious to a homeowner purchasing a window from a DIY outlet, overlooking them can have serious and dangerous consequences, as Sam reiterates. “Some of these things can result in a risk to life if they’re not carried out correctly,” he warns. The importance of a proper survey Another key difference between buying a window and having one professionally specified and installed is the assessment that takes place beforehand. “Buying a window off a trade counter, or through a DIY centre, means there won’t be a proper

survey carried out to establish the size, fit, and suitability as well the compliance required for that window,” explains Sam. That means the homeowner can be left responsible for determining whether the product is suitable for the specific opening and circumstances of their property. Even an experienced DIY enthusiast may not have the specialist knowledge required to identify every potential issue, as Sam admits. “I’m handy myself… I can fit a radiator next week if I need to. It will leak afterwards, but that’s the risk you take with DIY jobs, and that’s the whole point; you don’t want to be taking those risks. “If something goes wrong, it can cost a lot of money. Not just through prosecution and fines but actually putting your property right and rectifying any damage. That’s the value in using a professional installer that can do the job right first time.” Leave it to the professionals While the attraction of DIY installation is understandable, saving on professional installation at the outset could just mean homeowners end up spending more money, further down the line. “When purchasing any window or door, it’s really important that you use a FENSA registered installer to ensure that installation is carried out in a controlled manner, is compliant with Building Regulations, and notified to the local authority correctly. “You’ll have that certification; you’ll have your guarantees in place; and just as importantly, you’ll have that invaluable element of trust and protection,” Sam concludes. www.fensa.org.uk WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 39

The Business Pilot Barometer Activity rebounds as autumn begins By Neil Cooper-Smith, Senior Analyst, Business Pilot

September’s data paints an encouraging picture of renewed activity following the quieter summer period, with both leads and sales rising strongly and average order values continuing to strengthen. Conversion rates also remained close to their 42 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

recent high, suggesting installers are benefiting from a healthier flow of opportunities while continuing to convert them effectively. August’s Barometer highlighted a more selective market, with softer lead and sales volumes balanced by strong conversion and improving order values. September’s figures show activity picking up again as the market moves into autumn, while many of the efficiency gains seen over the summer have been maintained. Lead volumes recorded one of the clearest changes this month, increasing from 99.5 in August to 113.3 in September. That represents a rise of almost 14% month-on-month and takes enquiry levels back above July’s figure of 108.6. The rebound suggests the slowdown seen during the school holiday period was largely seasonal, with homeowners returning to the market as

VIEWPOINT normal routines resumed. Sales activity followed the same direction, rising from 47.8 in August to 53.5 in September, an increase of almost 12%. This brings sales close to July’s 54.1 and indicates that the stronger flow of enquiries is translating into confirmed work. Conversion rates remained particularly steady, moving only marginally from 41.0% in August to 40.9% in September. Having remained at or around 41% for three consecutive months, this consistency suggests installers are continuing to convert opportunities effectively, even as enquiry volumes fluctuate. Average order values also strengthened, rising from £4,094 in August to £4,344 in September. This represents an increase of just over 6% month-onmonth and continues the upward movement seen since June. The latest figure suggests homeowners who are proceeding with projects remain prepared to commit meaningful levels of spend, providing further support for installer revenues as activity picks up. Lead times edged upwards from 23.5 days in August to 23.8 days in September. The movement is relatively modest and follows the stronger increase in both leads and sales, suggesting businesses are continuing to manage growing workloads while maintaining turnaround times within a broadly consistent range. A stronger picture year-on-year Looking beyond the month-on-month recovery, the year-on-year comparison provides further evidence of improvement. September’s figures are stronger than the same month last year across leads, sales, conversion rates and average order values, while lead times are considerably shorter.

Average leads increased from 105.6 in September 2025 to 113.3 this September, representing growth of around 7%. Sales also moved

ahead, rising from 49.3 to 53.5, an increase of approximately 9%. This means September’s improvement extends beyond the usual postsummer uplift, with both measures also performing ahead of the same point last year. Conversion provides another positive comparison. The average conversion rate stood at 39.8% in September 2025, compared with 40.9% this year, an improvement of 1.1 percentage points. Alongside higher lead volumes, this stronger conversion performance is helping installers generate more sales from a larger pool of opportunities. The difference in average order value is particularly significant. September 2025 recorded an average of £3,736, compared with £4,344 this September, an increase of more than 16%. This suggests that the higher level of activity is also being accompanied by greater value, with homeowners committing more to the projects that progress to order. Lead times have moved in a favourable direction too. At 23.8 days this September, they are 3.5 days shorter than the 27.3 days recorded a year ago, a reduction of almost 13%. This suggests installers are handling higher levels of leads and sales while maintaining faster turnaround times than at the same point in 2025. Taken together, September’s figures suggest the market has moved beyond the summer slowdown with renewed momentum. Higher lead volumes are feeding through into stronger sales, while conversion rates and average order values remain healthy. The year-on-year comparison adds further weight to this picture, with performance ahead of September 2025 across the core commercial measures.

The wider economic backdrop remains mixed. UK Continued on page 38 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 43

VIEWPOINT Continued on page 37

CPI inflation rose to 3.1% in August, driven in part by higher transport and fuel costs, adding renewed pressure to household budgets. The Bank of England held Bank Rate at 3.75% in September as policymakers continued to monitor inflation and wider economic conditions. Consumer sentiment, however, has continued to improve gradually. The GfK Consumer Confidence Index rose by one point to -13 in September, marking a third consecutive monthly improvement. While households remain cautious, the direction of travel suggests confidence is slowly strengthening as consumers assess their finances and future spending plans. For the home improvement sector, September’s data provides encouraging evidence that homeowners are re-engaging following the summer break. Stronger enquiry levels, higher sales activity and rising order values create a positive platform for installers as they move into the autumn trading period. The year-onyear figures also suggest that this improvement extends beyond seasonal patterns, with the market entering the final quarter from a stronger position than at the same point in 2025. For businesses, the priority will be maintaining the conversion performance seen throughout the summer while managing the increased volume of opportunities entering the pipeline. Timely follow-up, clear visibility across leads and careful monitoring of sales performance will become increasingly important as activity builds. This is where Business Pilot continues to provide valuable support. By giving installers realtime visibility across leads, conversions, order values and operational performance, it enables businesses to identify changing patterns quickly, respond effectively to new opportunities and make informed decisions based on their own data. As the sector enters the final quarter of 2026, September’s figures suggest the market has regained some momentum following the summer lull. With leads and sales rising both month-onmonth and year-on-year, conversion remaining strong and average project values more than 16% higher than last September, installers enter the autumn with a solid base from which to build. New interviews will be released weekly, with installers able to follow the series through Business Pilot’s dedicated Installer Success hub. The conversations explore areas including whether to employ installers or use subcontractors, how closely businesses should monitor margins, the importance of supplier relationships and how technology can improve visibility across an operation. They also look at the value of keeping things simple and why traditional approaches to marketing can still have a place alongside newer channels. Crucially, the series was filmed against the backdrop of a difficult market for the industry. Elton continued: “These conversations are happening at a really interesting time. Installers are having to look closely at where they’re making money, how they’re operating and where they put their time and resources.

What they have in common is that they’re making decisions every day about how to grow, stay profitable and operate effectively in a challenging market. “That’s the kind of experience we want to share.” The series features Freedom Bespoke, a specialist glazing business working in the super prime residential market, alongside Sandringham Windows Norfolk, which has expanded its product offering as the business has developed. Also featured are Kent-based Home Choice Glazing, which has focused on organic growth, and Ripton Windows and Conservatories in Basingstoke, which brings the perspective of 30 years in business. Completing the series are Dimensions Garage Doors, a family-run company operating across two locations in Gloucester, and Wickford-based Ken Rhodes Group, where improving efficiency has become a key focus. Together, the businesses offer six different perspectives on many of the questions installation

“The businesses we’ve spoken to haven’t got identical answers, and that’s exactly why the series is useful. There are different ways to build a successful installation business. “We want people watching to hear something that makes them think about their own operation. It might be how they work with suppliers, how visible their margins are, the technology they’re using or something as simple as a marketing idea they haven’t considered for a while.” Each interview also asks the business owner or director to share one piece of advice with other installers, bringing together practical lessons learned from running and developing their own companies. For Business Pilot, the series is also an extension of its wider focus on helping installers understand their businesses and make better-informed decisions. “We work with installation businesses every day, so we see how much work goes into building a successful company,” Elton added. “There’s a lot of value in giving those businesses the platform to share what they’ve learned. These aren’t theories about how an installation company should be run. They’re real experiences from people doing it every day. “If installers come away from the series with one or two ideas that help them improve their own business, then we’ve achieved what we set out to do.” To follow Business Pilot’s weekly How to Build a Successful Installation Business series, visit businesspilot.co.uk/installer-success/. Speed wins: Why it all comes down to speed and

then price for installers

Speed has always mattered more than most fabricators like to admit. Price gets talked about because it’s easy to measure, but time is what actually determines whether an installer keeps working with you. A quote that takes a week isn’t a quote; it’s a missed opportunity. A delivery that’s late by 48 hours can unravel a fitting schedule that took weeks to plan. There’s a lazy assumption that fast lead times mean corners get cut. In my experience it’s the opposite. Speed without process is just chaos with a deadline attached. The fabricators who genuinely deliver quickly are the ones who’ve invested in the systems behind the scenes, not the ones cutting steps out of production. That’s the thinking behind everything we’ve built at BSW. Our pricing team exists so a quote lands the same day it’s requested, not because it looks good on paper but because we know installers are often quoting a homeowner while they’re still on the doorstep. Our aluminium capacity has doubled because demand has, and promising fast turnaround without the factory floor, or the nationwide delivery logistics, to back it up is a promise you can’t keep for long.

Rob Morley, managing director of BSW Window Solutions, says time, not price, decides who installers call first. Ask any installer what keeps them up at night and the answer is almost always the same; time and price. I’ve been in this industry for

47 years and that’s never changed. What has changed is how little room installers have to absorb delay. Margins are tighter, homeowners are more demanding and a job that slips by even a day can be the difference between a happy customer and a lost one.

46 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

None of this is about being the cheapest option in the market, the race to the bottom, and I don’t think it should be. It’s about being competitively priced while being genuinely reliable on time. Installers don’t need rock bottom prices nearly as much as they need to trust that what’s promised will actually turn up when it’s supposed to. Get the process right and speed follows. Get speed right and price becomes a much easier conversation. bsws.co.uk

Designing machines around needs Emplas explains its move away from a ‘one size fits all’ approach to machinery selection, as part of a three-pronged strategy that ultimately results in a better quality product. 48 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

Nigel Scott

For many fabricators, machinery investment has traditionally meant choosing from a catalogue and hoping the new kit delivers the promised gains, but Emplas is taking a different approach.

VIEWPOINT Scott is candid about where Emplas started: “I’m not from the window industry, and I was surprised to find machines that all did the same thing, no matter what manufacturer I went to. I would describe the options as simply ‘off‑the‑peg machines’.”

But rather than shrug and accept it, Emplas is using it as a roadmap for improvement. The Reliability Engineering Team, machinery suppliers and quality department are all working under the same premise to take those failure modes off the table.

But that approach didn’t fit a factory running three shifts in a restricted space, with a complex product range and UK‑specific fabrication demands.

It’s a simple but powerful expression of Emplas’ new philosophy: don’t rely on someone remembering – design a system that won’t let it pass.

Instead of accepting off the peg machinery, Emplas turned the model on its head. The fabricator has invited engineers from major suppliers into its Wellingborough site to help them understand the real constraints and quality challenges before proposing solutions.

Quality as data

“We’re looking for a partner that is prepared to design the machinery around us. Not the other way around,” explains Nigel The rise of the Reliability Engineering Team/Department

Faced with a limited footprint, rising quality expectations and a complex product mix, the company is re‑imagining how it buys, runs and maintains machinery – and using that as a lever to transform product quality and reliability. At the heart of this shift are three pillars: a new manufacturing design strategy, the introduction of a dedicated Reliability Engineering team, and a suite of live quality‑control systems that turn data into action on the shop floor. ‘Off‑the‑peg’ isn’t good enough Senior operations manager, Nigel

Changing how you buy machines only works if you also change how you run them. Emplas has done that by investing “very heavily” in its engineering team. “The team’s objective is to track breakdowns, and how long it takes to fix them; track to see how long it took to receive the spares and plan the maintenance on the machines,” explains Nigel The goal is simple: maximise the efficiency, utilisation, and revenue generated from existing machinery, without sacrificing quality. 2,000 ways to go wrong One of the more striking admissions from Nigel is just how many potential failure modes Emplas has identified, with the number standing at 2,000.

Underpinning the machinery changes is the factory‑wide Emplas Operating System, linking operators, machines and jobs into a single digital thread. “Information flow is more important than product output on the shop floor,” says Nigel. “There are 375 people working in our factory environment. To ensure that they have the right information to do the right things, at the right time, to deliver a quality product is a challenge.” Every operator now logs in to their workstation with a unique card. Before they can start, they must complete digital safety checks, creating a time‑stamped, auditable record, followed by quality calibration checks with on‑screen video instructions. When defects are found downstream, the system sends that information straight back to the operator and process concerned. Looked at in isolation, an engineer here or a screw‑counting system there might seem incremental. But viewed together, they mark a significant shift in its approach to machinery investment and quality, with positive results for both Emplas, its staff and its customers. emplas.co.uk WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 49

VIEWPOINT less.” According to Astra, more installers are now actively looking to simplify procurement by sourcing complete aluminium packages through a single trusted partner. This trend is being seen across both residential and commercial projects. Astra Window says its own expansive aluminium portfolio provides installers nationwide with a single source for virtually every aluminium requirement.

The biggest threat to installer profitability isn’t competition, it’s complexity The UK glazing sector has never been more competitive. Margins remain under pressure, customer expectations continue to rise, and project schedules are tighter than ever. Yet according to Astra Windows, the biggest challenge facing many installers isn’t competition, it’s complexity. The Greater Manchester-based aluminium fabricator believes too many installers are unknowingly sacrificing profitability through fragmented supply chains, inconsistent product sourcing and unnecessary operational inefficiencies.

As product portfolios have expanded across the industry, many installers have found themselves sourcing windows from one supplier, sliding doors from another, commercial systems elsewhere and specialist products from multiple manufacturers.

For David Jackson, managing director of Astra Windows, the issue is becoming increasingly apparent. “Everybody talks about generating more leads, winning more jobs and growing turnover. But very few people talk about how much profit is lost through complexity. The installers performing best aren’t always the biggest, they’re often the ones who have simplified their operations and removed as many obstacles as possible from the supply and installation process.”

While this can appear beneficial on paper, Astra Windows believes it often creates additional challenges; several quotations, complex lead times, confusing delivery schedules, overwhelming technical contacts, and multiple opportunities for mistakes. “Every additional supplier creates another point of potential failure,” explains David, “When projects are already operating on tight schedules, installers don’t need more administration. They need

50 WINDOW NEWS | SEPTEMBER OCTOBER 2026 2026

While price remains important, Astra Windows says installers are increasingly recognising the value of dependable service. The company points to issues such as delayed installations, rework, missed deliveries and project disruption as hidden costs that often outweigh small differences in product pricing. “The cheapest quote can quickly become the most expensive option if it creates problems on site,” says David, “Installers are becoming far more focused on consistency, communication and reliability because they understand the impact these factors have on profitability.” The company was recently recognised as an AluK approved fabricator, reinforcing its reputation for quality fabrication and technical expertise. Looking ahead, Astra Windows believes the installers who thrive over the next decade will be those who focus on operational efficiency as much as sales growth. “Winning work will always be important,” David concludes, “But the businesses that really succeed will be the ones that can deliver projects efficiently, consistently and profitably. In many cases, that starts with simplifying who they choose to work with.” Astra Windows: 01204 793333 or info@astrawindows.co.uk

VIEWPOINT Rob says Glazerite has seen this approach work successfully for customers sourcing their product requirements from the Group. “We’ve got a history of case studies at Glazerite, and more we’re building this year, where an installer buying all of its product requirements from one place has benefited their business.

Why installers can benefit from

“It makes the process slicker. They can concentrate on what they’re good at, which is the installation side, and have the reassurance that they’ve got a great portfolio of products coming in.” Making ordering and delivery simpler

buying from one fabricator

The benefits also extend into ordering and logistics. Bringing a greater proportion of an installer’s requirements together can make it easier to coordinate products for upcoming projects.

For installers, managing several product ranges, orders, deliveries and suppliers can take time away from the core job of serving customers and completing installations.

“Leave the fabricating to us. We can give you the volume, the selection, the colour choices and the delivery, and you can build your business around installation,” he explains.

Orders can be placed together, and products can arrive on the same vehicle, helping installers plan workloads and organise deliveries around their fitting schedules.

Working with one fabricator for a wider range of product requirements can help simplify that process, bringing ordering, deliveries, product choice and technical support together through a single supplier.

Bringing product requirements together

Rob explains: “Customers can place their orders together and have those products turn up at the same time.

For Glazerite, its scale and product portfolio allow customers to source a broad selection of windows and doors through one fabricator, supported by manufacturing sites across the UK. Rob Brearley, group managing director at Glazerite, says this approach gives installers the opportunity to focus their resources on installation and developing their businesses.

A broad product portfolio is central to the single-supplier approach. Glazerite’s manufacturing capability gives installers access to a wide selection of products, specifications and colour options, allowing them to meet different customer requirements through one fabricator. For installers, bringing those requirements together can create a simpler purchasing process and give them greater scope when discussing options with homeowners and commercial customers.

52 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

“We can offer that at scale and within a short lead time from our plants, which helps customers manage their own workload.” Giving installers greater choice Having access to a broader portfolio gives sales teams more options to present to customers and can help installers respond to a wider range of project requirements. That can include different window and door styles, colours and

VIEWPOINT specifications, backed by the relevant accreditations, Kitemarks and service support. For Rob, this breadth gives installers an opportunity to develop the proposition they take to market.

Glazerite supports its product offering with the accreditations, insurance requirements and service support that installers need when supplying products to their own customers.

“They’ve got a great portfolio of products coming in and they can step up in the market by offering more to their customers,” he says.

Bringing these elements together creates a more joined-up relationship between fabricator and installer, with product supply, logistics and support working alongside each other.

Supporting the whole customer relationship

For installers, it can also create more time to concentrate on the

High-performance

areas where they add the greatest value, from generating enquiries and advising homeowners through to fitting and aftercare. Rob concludes: “We can offer the product range, volume, colour choices, delivery, accreditations, Kitemarks and service support. “There are so many benefits for installers in bringing those requirements together. It gives them the support to concentrate on installation and develop their business.” www.glazeritewindows.co.uk

The Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF) has called for highperformance glazing to play a greater role in UK housing retrofit and fuel poverty policy, highlighting its potential to reduce energy demand, lower household bills and support British manufacturing.

The message was delivered at the UK Glass & Glazing Collective Parliamentary Reception at the Palace of Westminster on 9 September, where representatives from across the glass and glazing sector came together with parliamentarians and stakeholders to discuss the industry’s contribution to economic growth, energy efficiency, reindustrialisation and net zero. Speaking at the event, Chris Beedel, head of government advocacy at the GGF and chair of the UK Glass & Glazing Collective, said the sector has an important role to play in addressing some of the major

economic, environmental and social challenges facing the UK. Central to the GGF’s message was the need to consider the energy performance of the UK’s building stock alongside investment in low-carbon heating technologies. Chris highlighted the impact of inefficient windows on heat loss and argued that improving the fabric of homes should form part of a coordinated approach to reducing energy consumption. He said: “Every highperformance modern glazing system represents lower energy demand, lower carbon emissions, greater comfort, and lower household bills.” Chris told attendees that greater investment in high-performance glazing could support households while creating opportunities throughout the UK glass and glazing supply chain.

He added: “High efficiency glazing must be put at the heart of housing retrofit and fuel poverty policy and treated with the same strategic importance as insulation and other lowcarbon technologies. This will help support British jobs, support British-made products, and support British homes.” Building the case for policy change The Parliamentary Reception also heard from Lord Foster, who has supported the sector’s campaign for changes to the VAT treatment of energy-efficient glazing. Lord Foster highlighted that double and triple glazing have been required to meet energy-efficiency requirements since 2002, while remaining outside the list of energysaving materials benefiting Continued on page 48 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 53

from reduced VAT treatment. He called for continued collective engagement with policymakers to address the issue. He also raised concerns surrounding Extended Producer Responsibility arrangements for packaging, particularly the implications of a weight-based approach for glass.

Technologies including electric melting, hybrid furnaces and hydrogen-ready production systems are already available, he said, with the opportunity now centred on creating the conditions required to deploy them at scale within the UK. The event also saw Dean launch the Glass Charter, which calls for greater recognition and support for UK-manufactured glass.

Lord Foster praised the creation of the UK Glass & Glazing Collective, which was founded in 2024 to bring organisations from across the sector together and strengthen engagement with government, opposition spokespeople and other stakeholders.

The Charter is designed to champion domestic glass manufacturing and its contribution to skilled employment, UK supply chains, emissions reduction and future investment. Ministers, parliamentarians, peers and industry leaders were invited to demonstrate their support for its The GGF believes this collaborative aims. approach can help policymakers develop a greater understanding Creating the conditions for future of the contribution glass and growth glazing makes across housing, construction, energy efficiency and The reception also heard from UK manufacturing. Glass Futures, which highlighted the role glass plays across a wide Supporting British manufacturing range of strategically important and investment sectors. The economic contribution of domestic glass manufacturing was also highlighted during the reception. Dean Butler, president of British Glass and UK operations development director for Ardagh Group, told attendees that the UK glass manufacturing industry directly employs around 6,000 highly skilled people across 19 manufacturing sites, generates approximately £2.3 billion and contributes around £750 million in GVA.

Applications extend across energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy, communications, healthcare, defence, aerospace, scientific research and advanced manufacturing. Glass Futures identified four priorities for partnership between industry and government: internationally competitive industrial energy, long-term investment certainty, a renewed skills pipeline and support to move innovation from research and demonstration into full-scale industrial deployment.

Government signals commitment to collaboration Blair McDougall MP, Minister for Re-industrialisation, acknowledged the pressures facing the glass sector, including rising business costs, Extended Producer Responsibility and energy costs, while highlighting measures designed to support eligible glass businesses, including the British Industry Supercharger and the forthcoming British Industry Competitiveness Scheme. The Minister also recognised the work of the GGF and British Glass in representing the sector’s priorities to government and expressed his commitment to continued collaboration. Blair said: “I want all our foundation industries to thrive. So, it will be my pleasure to work with you openly and collaboratively on the priorities that matter to you.” For the GGF, the Parliamentary Reception provided an opportunity to take the priorities of the glass and glazing industry directly to policymakers and strengthen the case for greater recognition of high-performance glazing within national policy. Chris concluded: “Today, I ask those gathered here to see glass as the opportunity, see it as UK manufacturing, see it as skilled jobs, see it as warmer homes, see it as lower bills, see it as innovation, see it as investment, and above all else, see it as growth.” The GGF, working through the UK Glass & Glazing Collective, will continue engaging with government, Parliament and industry stakeholders to champion policies that support energy-efficient homes, British manufacturing, investment and long-term growth across the sector.

Why good service is about more than

getting the order right For installers, choosing the right supply partner can have a significant impact on the day-today running of their business. Product quality, price and lead times will always matter. But when you are managing multiple projects at once, the quality of support behind the product can be just as important. It is something Sternfenster customers regularly tell us, according to the

company. Chris, from Lifestyle Windows recently described the impact that moving to Sternfenster had on their business: “I’m not exaggerating to say the move to Sternfenster has been life changing for us. I honestly think our business would be in a different place if we hadn’t been buying from you guys for the last

five years.” They also highlighted the role played by Sternfenster’s Customer Service Department. “The support that we get is very noticeable. You can tell people really try to sort out the problems which are important to us.” Their conclusion was refreshingly straightforward, “It’s a bloody good firm you’ve got!” No supply chain is completely without challenges. Windows and doors are complex products, projects change and sometimes unexpected problems arise. What matters is how those situations are handled. A recent example came from Amy at Falcon Windows, when the

VIEWPOINT

Sternfenster team arranged for glass required for a customer’s project to be delivered by courier. Following the delivery, Amy contacted Sternfenster to say: “We just wanted to say a huge thank you for getting the glass to us. It’s just been delivered by courier.” But it was the next sentence that demonstrated why the additional effort mattered: “This has made the difference between a happy customer and unhappy customer.” For an installer, that difference is important. A missing or delayed item can affect a fitting schedule, require another visit to site and, ultimately, influence the homeowner’s experience of the installation company. Being

able to call on a supplier that understands those pressures and is prepared to help find a solution can make running a business that little bit easier, according to the company. Sternfenster has continued to invest in the products, manufacturing capabilities and digital tools it provides to its customers. But good service still comes down to people. It is the customer service team responding to a query. The production team working to get an order ready. The logistics team getting products where they need to be. And sometimes, it is someone recognising that getting a piece of glass onto a courier could make the difference between a happy and an unhappy

homeowner. That level of support helps installers concentrate on what they do best: winning work, completing installations and looking after their own customers, says the company. And while Sternfenster can talk about its approach to customer service, feedback from the businesses that experience it every day perhaps says it better. As one customer put it, “You can tell people really try to sort out the problems which are important to us.” For Sternfenster, that is exactly what good customer service should look like. www.sternfenster.com WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 57

PEOPLE advanced to assistant depot manager before taking the reins as depot manager. From Three Depots to a National Network

Danny Cavanagh

From warehouse floor

to the boardroom: how

Danny Cavanagh built a 25-year career at GAP

When Danny Cavanagh walked into GAP’s Wirral depot on October 1st 2001, for his first shift as a warehouse operative, he readily admits he knew very little about the building products industry. What he did know was that GAP felt like a business with genuine potential and a culture where hard work would be rewarded Now, as he approaches his 25th anniversary with the company, Danny sits on the Board of Directors as Depot Operations Director, managing everything from fleet logistics and central distribution to estates, stock management, sheet sales, and a national network of depots. His quarter-century journey is a powerful testament to personal commitment and to a company culture that actively champions internal progression.

A Steep Learning Curve and a Culture of Opportunity

Danny’s entry into the trade came after meeting Jon Randles, who was serving as the Wirral depot manager at the time. “Back then, I didn’t know much about the industry at all, sо іt was a steep learning curve,” Danny reflects. “GAP seemed like a great place to work and develop. I decided early on that with hard work and commitment, this could turn from just a job into a real career.” That early intuition proved spoton. Over the next several years, Danny systematically worked his way through almost every operational function within the depot. From the warehouse floor, he stepped up to the trade counter, moved into stock control and the sales office, and

Danny’s operational success at the depot level led to wider responsibilities across the group. Initially tasked with helping to mentor and develop a small cluster of three depots, his strategic remit expanded rapidly as the company grew, eventually encompassing 46 depots. His rise through the ranks culminated in his appointment to the Board of Directors. “Being promoted to the Board of Directors was a key personal moment for me,” says Danny. “There are too many highlights to list, but beyond business milestones like successful acquisitions, playing a key part in developing and promoting other people will always be what I’m most proud of.” A Flat Structure That Empowers When asked what single piece of advice he would give to a new warehouse operative starting out today, Danny points directly to curiosity and communication. “Never be afraid to ask questions to whoever you feel can give you the best answer,” he advises. “GAP works with a flat structure, sо never feel like you can’t call the owners or directors if you feel they can help. Nо question іs too big or too silly, everyone іs happy tо support you.” As GAP continues its strategic expansion across the UK and prepares for future milestones, including Rockdoor’s 30th anniversary in 2027, Danny’s story stands as a clear signal to both staff and trade customers: GAP is a business built on deep-rooted experience, genuine relationships, and leaders who know the trade from the ground up. https://www.gap.uk.com/ WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 61

Today, Rob is group managing director of Glazerite and Darren is managing director of its Northern sites. Their relationship began in 1995, when Rob, then 17, joined Carrington Wire in Halifax as a junior lab technician. Darren was head of the department and interviewed him for the role. We’ve got the same sort of operational energy, business thinking and approach to culture, so I always had it in mind that we’d work together again,” Rob says. Today, that shared approach remains central to how they lead Glazerite. Both place strong emphasis on knowing employees, understanding life on the shop floor and creating a culture where people feel valued and connected to the wider business. “We like to get to know people. We know their names and we know what interests them. “We think being personable is important because that’s where we came from. We were once working on the shop floor, putting things together ourselves.” For Rob, that experience continues to shape the Group’s priorities. “We all have the same goals: customer focus, care about people, culture, making good products and making sure the business is healthy for the future,” he explains. With its focus on creating an authentic heritage aesthetic supported by modern, low maintenance materials, Welborne was the perfect fit for Roseview Windows. It appealed to the team because Welborne sits exactly where they are operating in the market – blending sustainability with visual innovation. Welborne is being built to a Design Code set by the awardwinning architectural designer Ben Pentreath OBE and reflects the traditions of Hampshire architecture and Garden City styles. Welborne’s homes require windows that deliver traditional

The comeback

of character: how windows are helping homeowners blend heritage

with modern performance By Dene Rylands, Business Development Manager, UK Doors Online Over the years, I’ve spoken with countless homeowners who felt they were facing a difficult choice when replacing their windows. They either had to preserve the traditional character of their property or opt for modern windows that delivered better energy efficiency, security and ease of maintenance.

Thankfully, that’s no longer the case. In my time in the industry, one of the biggest shifts I’ve seen is the growing demand for windows that combine classic styling with modern performance. Whether it’s a Victorian terrace, an Edwardian semi, a country

70 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

cottage or even a newer property looking to add a touch of heritage charm, homeowners are increasingly looking for products that offer the best of both worlds. For me, this isn’t just a passing trend. It’s a reflection of how people feel about their homes. More than ever, homeowners

V E R T I C A L S L I D E R S & H E R I TA G E C O N S E RVAT I O N remain so popular One product that perfectly reflects the growing demand for character-led home improvements is the vertical slide window. Long associated with Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties, these traditional sash-style windows continue to be a popular choice for homeowners looking to keep the heritage feel of a home. I often speak to homeowners who are impressed by how closely today’s systems replicate the look of original timber sash windows. Character without compromise One misconception I still come across is that maintaining a property’s character means sacrificing performance.

want spaces that feel personal, authentic and full of character. Homeowners are looking beyond trends A few years ago, contemporary designs dominated the market. Minimalist frames, large expanses of glass and sleek aesthetics were what customers required. While those styles remain popular, I’ve noticed many customers now looking for something with a bit more personality. They want to enhance their home’s original features rather than replace them with something that feels generic. Windows play a huge role in this. They’re one of the first things people notice about a property and can have a significant impact on kerb appeal. The right windows can completely transform a home while still respecting its heritage. Why vertical slide windows

In reality, today’s systems are designed to provide excellent thermal efficiency, weather resistance and security while retaining traditional design features. As energy costs remain a concern for many households, homeowners understandably want products that can help create warmer, more comfortable homes. Heritage-inspired windows can now achieve this without detracting from the property’s appearance. From my perspective, that’s one of the biggest reasons demand continues to grow. Colour choices are driving individuality Another trend I’ve noticed is the increasing importance of colour and finish. White windows will always have their place, but more homeowners are exploring colours that complement the age and style of their property. Shades such as Chartwell

Green, Cream and Agate Grey remain incredibly popular, while woodgrain finishes are helping homeowners achieve a traditional appearance without the maintenance associated with timber. We’re also seeing more customers choose dualcolour options, allowing them to maintain a heritage look externally while creating a different aesthetic inside the home. It’s these choices that help homeowners create something unique rather than settling for a one-size-fits-all solution. The details matter In my experience, the most successful window projects often come down to the finer details. Features such as Georgian bars, astragal bars, period-inspired hardware and decorative finishes can make a huge difference to the overall appearance of a property. These finishing touches help windows feel authentic and in keeping with the character of the home. I believe the comeback of character is here to stay. Homeowners increasingly want homes that reflect their personality while still meeting the demands of modern living. Why heritage

styling continues to shape the window market Heritage-inspired home improvements continue to grow in popularity, with more homeowners choosing products that reflect the character and charm of traditional architecture. Vertical sliding sash windows remain one of the most recognisable styles, combining timeless design with the performance expected from modern windows.

For installers, this presents a valuable opportunity. Demand for heritage products extends far beyond period properties, with homeowners choosing sash windows for renovations, extensions and even contemporary homes where classic styling is part of the design. “Heritage design has a timeless

appeal,” says Nathan Court, chief sales officer at Sternfenster. “People want products that suit the character of their home and create a lasting impression. Sash windows continue to be one of the most popular choices because they offer that traditional look while delivering modern levels of comfort and performance.” The growing popularity of home renovation has also helped drive demand. Many homeowners are investing in improving their existing property, choosing windows that add style as well as value. At the same time, planning requirements often encourage sympathetic replacement windows, particularly in conservation areas and on period properties. This has

V E R T I C A L S L I D E R S & H E R I TA G E C O N S E RVAT I O N increased the need for products that combine authentic styling with reliable performance. “Homeowners are investing more in their homes,” Nathan explains. “They want products that look right for the property while helping improve energy efficiency and everyday comfort. That balance has become increasingly important.” Sternfenster’s Regency Sash Collection has been developed with these priorities in mind. The range combines traditional sash window styling with modern manufacturing, helping installers offer an authentic solution across a wide variety of projects. Attention to detail plays an important role throughout the collection. Slim sightlines, decorative sash horns and a choice of authentic hardware help create the appearance homeowners expect, while a wide selection of colours and finishes allows installers to match different property styles. “Details matter,” says Nathan. “Homeowners notice the finishing touches because they all contribute to the overall appearance of the window. When every element works together, the finished result feels right for the property.” The Regency Sash Collection delivers excellent thermal efficiency, helping homeowners reduce heat loss and improve comfort throughout the year. Strong security features also provide reassurance, giving homeowners confidence that their windows perform as well as they look. Practical features add further value. Tilt-in sashes make cleaning easier, allowing both sides of the glass to be accessed from inside the home. This is particularly useful for upper-floor windows and helps homeowners maintain their

windows with ease. For installers, reliability and ease of installation are just as important as product design. Every window is manufactured using Sternfenster’s advanced production processes, helping ensure consistent quality across every order. Installers also benefit from digital tools including EasyAdmin+ and EasySales, making it easier to produce quotations, configure products and manage projects from enquiry through to installation. “Our customers need products they can trust,” Nathan says. “They also want a straightforward ordering process and dependable service. By combining quality manufacturing with digital support, we’re helping installers work more efficiently while delivering an excellent experience for homeowners.” Nathan believes demand for heritage products will remain

strong as homeowners continue to place greater value on character and thoughtful design. “People are looking for products that bring lasting style to their homes,” he says. “Vertical sliding sash windows have remained popular for generations because they offer elegance, practicality and versatility. Those qualities continue to appeal to homeowners today.” For installers, heritage windows continue to provide opportunities across a wide range of projects, from period renovations to contemporary homes inspired by traditional architecture. “The Regency Sash Collection helps installers meet that demand with confidence,” Nathan concludes. “It combines authentic styling, modern performance and dependable quality, giving our customers a product they can be proud to install.” www.sternfenster.com WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 73

Repair, retrofit

or replace? Choosing the right approach

for timber sash windows By Borislav Čakarević, Repair A Sash

A broken cord or a decayed cill does not necessarily mean a timber sash window needs replacing. The moving sashes and the fixed box frame may be in quite different condition, and sound original components can often remain in use. The decision starts with what needs attention, what is worth preserving and what the owner wants the work to achieve. 74 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

Local defects can often be addressed without replacing the whole window. A failed cord calls for attention to the operating system; localised decay may require a timber section to be cut back and replaced while the surrounding sound joinery is retained. A sash that will not stay open needs its cords, pulleys and balance checked rather than being treated as evidence that the timber has failed. Where the joinery is broadly sound, easing and adjustment, correctly fitted beads and integrated draught seals may be enough to improve movement and reduce rattling and air leakage. Draught proofing addresses gaps around the moving components. It can improve comfort without changing the glass, while decayed

V E R T I C A L S L I D E R S & H E R I TA G E C O N S E RVAT I O N counterweights also had to be recalculated to suit the new sash weight. The specification brought these requirements together while preserving the sound original boxes. Glazing details and the limits of replacement Glazing should be selected alongside the sash design. Rebate dimensions, glazing bars and meeting-rail profiles affect what can be accommodated and how the finished window will look. Any change in overall sash weight must also be allowed for in the balancing arrangement, so the completed window slides correctly and stays in position. A thinner glazing unit does not, by itself, establish that an existing sash is suitable for an upgrade.

timber or failed operating parts require their own remedial work. These works can overlap on one window, so the scope should distinguish the repairs from the measures intended to reduce draughts. New sashes in a retained box If the existing sashes cannot accommodate the proposed glazing or are no longer suitable for repair, a serviceable box frame may still be retained. New sashes can be manufactured to fit it, reproducing the existing proportions and profile details where required. This preserves the fixed frame and avoids the disturbance associated with removing the complete window, although the moving components are replaced.

Retention still involves preparation. The box may need old coatings removed, local defects repaired and its running surfaces prepared before new sashes are fitted. Its condition and dimensions must suit the proposed work; new glass and carefully made sashes cannot compensate for an unreliable frame. At a listed Victorian property in Notting Hill, Repair A Sash retained the original box frames and manufactured new Accoya sashes with Fineo vacuum glazing. The owner wanted a substantial thermal upgrade while keeping the period proportions. Fineo was selected because its narrow edge detail suited the intended glazing rebate and sash design. The

For significant historic windows, technical feasibility is only part of the decision. Historic England advises retaining and repairing significant joinery wherever possible. Proposed changes to glazing or original components should be discussed with the local planning authority before the specification is finalised. Listed-building requirements and conservation-area controls differ, and reproducing the original appearance does not automatically resolve the consent position. Complete replacement may be more appropriate where extensive deterioration or the amount of rebuilding required means repair would not provide a durable result or reasonable long-term value. Local damage alone should not be used to reach that conclusion. Whether the work involves repair, new sashes or complete replacement, the specification should explain which components will remain, why others need changing and how the completed window will meet the agreed requirements. https://www.repairasash.co.uk/ WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 75

These products have been designed in the UK, by Siegenia’s in-house team following extensive discussions with their customer base and it marks a significant shift for the company. Speaking about the launch of the new range Ryan explained: “Our running feedback from the market was that customers wanted complete solutions, they

They told us that if they had a partner on open-out solutions that mirrored their partnership with us on TBT then their businesses would benefit.” So, is this first regionally designed range the start of a move away from the philosophy of the German based parent group? Not a bit of it says Ryan: “Germany are at the forefront of design on all our core products and set the philosophy for the company as a whole. Hurst reports that all eight Veka Feinstruktur colour finishes are now available across its PVC-U panel range, ideal for projects looking to create a sleek, contemporary look. Translating as ‘fine structure’, Feinstruktur is a decorative foil for windows and doors with a finetextured matt finish that emulates the appearance of powder‑coated aluminium. All colours can be applied to both Modern and Flat panel styles from Hurst, elevating aesthetics and creating opportunities to upsell, add value and increase margin. “Aluminium-like aesthetics continue to be very much ontrend, and the addition of the full Feinstruktur palette to our panel range allows fabricators and installers to tap into that,” said Mark Atkinson, sales director at Hurst. “Another significant benefit is the possibility to achieve a seamless colour match between PVC-U panels and Halo or Veka window and door profiles. The result is a consistent finish across products, increasing the visual appeal of installations for increasingly styleconscious homeowners.” Available in anthracite grey, black, slate grey, quartz grey, basalt grey,

silver grey, umber and traffic white, Feinstruktur’s substantial palette reflects the sustained popularity of textured, aluminium-style products. Hardwearing and robust, its surface is designed to resist knocks and scratches, while infra-red pigments reflect thermal absorption to minimise warping and twisting. Practical and easy to clean, Feinstruktur is sustainably manufactured by Veka using recyclable materials, enhancing its eco credentials. “We always keep our eye on market trends, and expanding our colour and finish choice with this high-end foil option supports our installers to meet homeowner demand for coordinated, premiumlooking entrance doors,” Mark added. “This is a product that doesn’t just look good. It’s resistant to fingerprints and dirt, it resists harmful UV light and extreme temperatures, and it scores highly in the sustainability stakes, so it has practical benefits as well as aesthetic. “Veka Feinstruktur is a welcome addition to our portfolio, and we’re confident it will deliver strong rewards for our customers.” www.hurstdoors.co.uk WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026 89

TWR Group adds SupaLite conservatory roof to expanding range Trade fabricator TWR Group has added the SupaLite tiled conservatory roof to its portfolio, giving installers a fast, fully compliant option for replacing tired polycarbonate roofs with a highperforming alternative, says the company.

Laura Richardson, director of the northeast-based TWR Group. “The SupaLite conservatory roof fits onto existing the frames that are already there, so the disruption for the homeowner stays minimal and the installer can move on to the next job without hanging around.”

The lightweight aluminium system is designed to sit directly onto most existing conservatory frames, working across Edwardian, Victorian, P-shape and gableended styles, and covering lean-to replacements, extensions and new-build projects without the need for a new foundation, claims the company.

With U-values as low as 0.15 W/m²K, the fully insulated tiled roof system delivers thermal performance that keeps conservatories comfortable through the coldest months, and in most cases the work falls under permitted development, sparing installers the delay of a planning application, claims the company.

“Our customers have been asking us for a roof solution that doesn’t turn a straightforward job into a three-week project,” said

Homeowners can choose between TapcoSlate or ExtraLight tiles in a range of colours, with SkyVista glass panels available for those

wanting more natural light without losing the thermal benefits of a solid roof, says the company. “A conservatory that only gets used in June is a wasted room,” Laura added. “SupaLite gives installers a premium solid tiled finish and genuine year-round upgrade to offer to secure conservatory roof projects, and one that’s quick to fit and built to last.” The launch comes shortly after TWR Group added the Iconiq aluminium roof lantern from Eurocell to its range, part of a wider push into roof products alongside its established aluminium and uPVC windows and doors offering. “Roofs weren’t something we’d traditionally supplied, but our installers kept telling us they wanted to source everything from one place rather than juggling multiple suppliers,” Laura explained. “Now they can come to us for windows, doors, lanterns and conservatory roofs, and that makes life easier for them and, in the long run, for their customers.” www.twrgroup.co.uk

Saint-Gobain Glass launches 4.8mm Stadip Plus

laminated glass for lighter¹

glazing with P2A² safety and security performance Saint-Gobain Glass has expanded its Stadip laminated glass range with the launch of 4.8mm Stadip Plus, an innovative thinner laminated glass designed to deliver P2A² safety and security performance while offering weight¹, thermal³ and environmental⁴ performance benefits. Suitable for both double and triple-glazed insulated glass units, the new product combines the safety and security credentials of the Stadip range with a lighter construction that can

help fabricators, sealed unit manufacturers and installers optimise glazing specifications without compromising performance, says the company. Compared with a traditional 6.8mm laminated glass, the new 4.8mm construction reduces weight while maintaining the P2A² safety and security classification. Saint-Gobain says the reduced weight can help to make insulated glass units more straightforward to process, handle and install, while also helping to reduce the load placed on window systems,

hinges and locking mechanisms. Saint-Gobain adds that the thinner construction can also help to create new opportunities for insulated glazing design. In a standard 24mm double-glazed unit, manufacturers can replace 6.8mm Stadip with 4.8mm Stadip Plus, improving the U-value performance³ from 1.1 W/m2.K to 1.0 W/m2.K Alongside thermal benefits, 4.8mm Stadip Plus can also enhance acoustic performance. In a typical 4/16/4.8 Stadip Plus double-glazed configuration, it delivers a 2–3dB improvement in acoustic performance compared with a standard 4/16/4 monolithic glass unit⁵. The product also offers higher light transmission than thicker laminated alternatives in certain configurations⁶, helping maximise natural daylight without sacrificing safety or performance. For triple glazing and enhanced thermal specifications, the

reduced glass thickness can enable larger cavity sizes within the same overall unit thickness, helping achieve lower U-values in specific configurations⁷. The product is also available with coated options, including Planitherm Neo, to suit a wide range of residential and commercial specifications. The launch also reflects SaintGobain Glass’ continued focus on reducing embodied carbon across its product portfolio. 4.8mm Stadip Plus is manufactured in the UK using Planiclear, lowercarbon flat glass as standard. Planiclear is now a lower-carbon, clear float glass, based on the product’s new, third-party verified EPD4. The new declaration shows a carbon reduction of more than 34% compared with the previous Planiclear EPD. Planiclear now achieves 7.22kg CO2e/m2 for 4mm glass (Global Warming Potential categories A1-A3). Manufacturing in the UK also helps support supply chain security and product availability, while Saint-Gobain Glass’

continued investment in glass recycling means that every tonne of cullet used in the manufacture of new float glass prevents the use of around 1.2 tonnes of virgin raw materials and approximately 700kg of CO₂ emissions across scopes 1, 2 and 3⁸.

Published June 2026.

Commenting on the launch, Mike Butterick, marketing director at Saint-Gobain Glass said: “As regulations continue to evolve and demand grows for residential glazing solutions, 4.8mm Stadip Plus provides the industry with a new option that can help to overcome some of the traditional challenges associated with laminated glazing, particularly with regard to triple-glazing.

“The launch of 4.8mm Stadip Plus further strengthens SaintGobain Glass’ portfolio of glazing solutions. By combining P2A²; safety and security performance with reduced weight¹, enhanced acoustic performance⁵ and lower embodied carbon⁴, the latest addition to the Stadip range can help to enable sealed unit manufacturers, fabricators and installers to meet future market requirements without compromising performance.” Article notes provided by SainGobain: 1/ Compared to 6.8mm Stadip laminate glass. 2/ P2A is a recognised classification under EN 356 for security glazing. Francesca Healy – lead product manager at SFS UK

Visible cladding success – Centre Point counters the conflicts facing contractors With up to a dozen rivets required per square metre to retain many types of rainscreen cladding panel, plus the array of equipment needed to complete the task, specialist installers are at risk of making critical errors as well as suffering fatigue or even injury. It is a situation that was crying out for the simple yet ingenious product solution that is already proving itself to be both user-friendly and reliable. As lead product Manager, Francesca Healy comments: “There was a clear opportunity to innovate in this area and improve outcomes for installers, main contractors and, in turn, clients. To make the visible fixing of rainscreen cladding panels quicker, easier and safer, SFS has developed the: a self-drilling, threaded fastener with a centring sleeve. The whole process is quicker to carry out, involves fewer tools and operations; and ultimately provides a more consistent install.

“Put simply, the challenge of meeting a panel manufacturer’s requirements can mean the difference between having a façade system that performs safely for the life of the building, or one at increased risk of panel deformation or detachment, potentially putting the public at risk as well as leaving the building fabric exposed. “To fully appreciate why Centre Point is proving so effective in both retrofit and new-build situations across the sectors, it is instructive to reconsider the inherent problems presented by using traditional visible fixing products. “Panels are supplied with both fixed position holes (generally at the centre) and those to allow sliding – or gliding – uptake of thermal expansion: which require very precise positioning. Failing to meet the necessary tolerances can lead to stresses and actual failures, through deformation and detachment. “In practice, typical rivet based

94 WINDOW NEWS | OCTOBER 2026

visible fixings require the installer to pre-drill a plus-1mm sized hole in the aluminium profile, the hole must be positioned exactly in the centre of the sliding slot. Therefore, as well as the drill and rivet gun, the operative must carry additional tooling, including a nose tool for alignment, to avoid over-tightening the panel against the substrate and a stand-off nose piece is needed to maintain a small gap. Such complications not only impact productivity, but can also increase the potential for installation errors, which can seriously detract from the performance of the installed system. “Underlined by the implementation of the Building Safety Act, specifiers and installers must ensure both integrity of the installation (against any thermal stresses). All involved should further strive for durability to avoid the need to return to site, with the risks of more working at height plus the costly provision of additional scaffolding or other access equipment. “In contrast to traditional practices, the SFS Centre Point solution requires a straightforward screw gun to complete a single operation install that is faster and simpler whereby the fastener is inserted

PRODUCT NEWS into the sliding hole and screwed straight in. “Firstly, even if the installer is working at an awkward height, the design of the fastener’s biopolymer sleeve perfectly aligns with the middle of the slot before breaking and ejecting away as pressure is applied; meaning no debris remains in the hole. As no residue is left in the hole it means the fastener allows for the full movement of the panel. Then not only is the stainless-steel fastener’s optimised tip able to efficiently penetrate into aluminium substrates, there is also a ‘bi-met’ version of Centre Point available for installation into steel substrates. In both cases the specially engineered double thread performs two functions. “Initially it prevents the fastener from kicking sideways, keeping it perpendicular to the face of the panel. Secondly, the double thread guards against the fastener unwinding once installed. There is also a reduced threaded zone, which mitigates the risk of damage from over-driving and prevents the panel being clamped and thus immovable against the rail. Aesthetically, the Dome screw head of the Centre Point can also be painted to colour match the panel. “Finally, the operation is facilitated through the SFS optimised T25W drive bit which provides a secure engagement for optimal guidance. “The Centre Point solution ensures that the panel OEM’s requirements are fulfilled, while main contractors have the reassurance that their projects are protected against poor panel installation and that project dates are more likely to be met. In the long term, façades are protected against panels failing as a result of being unable to accommodate thermal movement.” For more information click the link: Centre Point system

Crittall Windows contributed its products to The Rhythm of Rainwater, an Anthony Purdydesigned garden that won a gold medal at the inaugural RHS Sandringham Flower Show. The garden featured a bespoke artist’s studio incorporating Crittall windows and doors, creating a strong visual connection between the interior workspace and its surrounding landscape. The design explored the importance and beauty of rainwater, turning harvested water into a visual and musical experience. Held at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk from 22 to 25 July, the RHS show brought together garden designers, horticulturalists and construction specialists. The Rhythm of Rainwater also received the awards for Best Grow Forward Garden and Best Construction Award. Russell Ager of Crittall Windows said: “We were proud to contribute Crittall windows and doors to a show garden where architecture and horticulture came together so thoughtfully.

“Steel glazing has long been used to connect interiors with the landscapes beyond, allowing light, views and nature to become part of the experience. It was a pleasure to see our products take their place within such a carefully considered garden design, supporting a space built around detail, craftsmanship and a connection to the outdoors.” Rain collected from the studio roof was channelled through dipping tanks and steel tongue drums, creating an evolving soundscape inspired by rainfall. The garden also demonstrated how rainwater can be harvested and reused rather than relying on mains water. Crittall’s contribution helped give the studio a strong architectural presence while maintaining its connection with the garden. The project demonstrated how steel windows and doors can sit naturally within creative, landscape-led schemes where architecture and the environment are considered together. www.crittall-windows.co.uk

The Residence Collection

windows used to transform

farmhouse property

A recent project saw The Residence Collection, a window and door designer, transform Simcoe’s Farm, an original timber property using the Residence 9 timber-alternative window and door system. In collaboration with installer and fabricator, this farm building was transformed with 25 R9 windows and a set of R9 French doors, creating the perfect timber-totimber-alternative renovation story while maintaining that traditional timber aesthetic, says the company. The property features two Residence 9 sash windows in the colour Painswick on the exterior and Grained White on the interior, completed with gold Pear drop handles. For this renovation, all products were mechanically jointed and fitted with a 28mm glazing units, combining authentic timber-style aesthetics with the performance and low-maintenance benefits of modern pvc-u, claims the

company. The Residence Collection was chosen as the homeowner originally wanted someone to repair their broken timber windows; however, when the repairman arrived, the windows were unfortunately too far gone. Shirestone Windows showed them Residence 9 and provided them with a window sample, which led to them moving forwards with The Residence Collection. ON SITE and how it has transformed the space. “We can use the garden in inclement weather; that’s the biggest difference. It’s also given the patio a purpose, it’s not somewhere we’d really used before, but now we can sit outside, comfortable and dry, and enjoy uninterrupted views across to the distant Clee Hills. “We’re very happy with the service we received from Howells, from start to finish. They are approachable, friendly and professional with a great product.” The Horizon pergola uses Howells’ aluminium glazing bar technology to deliver structural integrity and visual appeal. The standard system configuration fully complies with EN 1991 for typical wind and snow loads, ensuring reliable, yearround performance.

When an extensive renovation project in South Shropshire neared completion, the focus turned to the outdoor living area. Given the property’s exposed, rural location, the owners required a highperformance, year-round solution capable of withstanding high winds and the demanding British weather without compromising on aesthetics. The couple selected the Horizon pergola from Howells Patent Glazing opting for the four pane model in a standard finish. The pergola spans 2.9m with 2.5m projection and is glazed with a grey-tinted laminated safety glass to reduce glare and control heat. The aluminium frame is powder coated in RAL 7016 anthracite grey matt. Homeowner, Mrs Williams praised the final result saying the Horizon pergola is a high-quality product, while also commenting on the care and consideration of the design

To maintain a contemporary aesthetic and maximise uninterrupted sightlines, the pergola includes colour-matched guttering with downpipes neatly routed along the posts – a standout feature in the UK pergola market. Working alongside a 5-degree pitched roof, it delivers effective and discreet water management. The Horizon pergola is custommade product, delivered in 4-6 weeks. It is a supply only product, unless otherwise agreed, and is suitable for both domestic and commercial use. It is available in four, six and eight pane configurations with a projection of 2.5m and spans from 2.9m to 5.7m at 717mm centres. Roofing options include 8.8mm laminated tinted glass or clear 10mm twinwall polycarbonate panels supported by a powder coated aluminium frame in standard RAL 7016 anthracite grey matt or any custom RAL colour. www.howellsglazing.co.uk/pergola

MARKETING & INTERNET Sioned Yates

What gap did you want the business to fill when you launched? “I’d spent years sitting on the client side of the table, so I knew there was a gap between employing a senior marketing person full-time and outsourcing everything to an agency. There are some brilliant businesses in our industry that know they need marketing support but don’t necessarily need, or can’t justify, a full-time Marketing Director.

Celebrating

I can come into a business, understand where it’s trying to go, look at what is and isn’t working and help put some strategy and structure around the marketing. Because I’ve been the client, I understand the pressures too. I’m not interested in doing marketing activity just for the sake of doing it. There needs to be a reason for it and ultimately, it needs to help the business gain sales.”

two years of Access Marketing: types of brands and Sioned Yates discusses growth What organisations have you worked

and the power of partnership

Access Marketing is celebrating two years in business. Founded by Sioned Yates to provide practical, strategic marketing support for businesses across the fenestration, construction and building sectors, the business has worked with manufacturers, suppliers, trade organisations and industry events. From delivering the first Velux Commercial UK&I press visit to developing a growing focus on the Women in Fenestration network, Sioned reflects on the projects, lessons and industry changes that have shaped Access Marketing so far – and explains why collaboration is central to her approach. How would you describe the last two years of Access Marketing? “Exciting, challenging and probably a much bigger learning curve than I expected! I’d spent more than 30 years working in marketing and holding senior in-house roles, but running your own business

is very different. Suddenly, you’re responsible for absolutely everything, as well as actually doing the work you love. Two years in, I feel like I’ve found the way I want Access Marketing to work. I don’t want to build a marketing agency. I want to work closely with businesses where I can genuinely make a difference.”

with, and which projects have been the highlights so far? “It’s been a real mix, and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about what I do. I’ve worked with global manufacturers, national and regional businesses, fabricators, installers, industry organisations, events and networks across construction and fenestration. There have been a few projects I’m particularly proud of. Delivering the first Velux Commercial UK&I press visit was definitely one. It was a first for the business, and being trusted to create and deliver it through Access Marketing felt like a real milestone. Another was developing Velux Commercial’s first brand campaign since the Velux acquisitions in 2019. Bringing the different

MARKETING & INTERNET businesses together under one story and helping establish what Velux Commercial stood for was a fantastic project to work on. I’ve also loved the more strategic projects where I can really get under the skin of a business and help shape where its marketing needs to go. I’ve been delivering lots of these.

adds new web resource showcasing working groups for roofs and flame spread tests for building products, while responding to changes in legislation e.g., Building Regulations Approved Document B.

And then there’s Women in Fenestration. That’s different again because it isn’t just another project for me. It’s something I’ve become personally very invested in and I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building.” What have the last two years taught you about marketing in fenestration and construction? “Probably that we still have a tendency to jump straight to tactics. Maybe you do. But why? What are you actually trying to achieve? What does the business need? The businesses that do marketing well are the ones that start there. Understand what the business is trying to achieve, understand the customers and then decide what marketing activity is actually going to help.” What would you say to a business that doesn’t know where to start? “Don’t start with the marketing. Start with the business goals and objectives! What are you trying to achieve? Where do you want your growth to come from? Who are your best customers? Why do they buy from you? Where are your enquiries coming from now? What’s working and what’s not?

The Rooflight Association (RA) has launched a new online resource detailing the critical work of its dedicated working groups in shaping industry standards and guidance for the rooflight sector and beyond. Led by Technical Committee Chair, Paul Smith, the RA’s working groups collaborate with British, European and wider industry standards committees and trade bodies to ensure high performance, safety and compliance throughout the rooflight supply chain. By representing member interests at this level, the RA also ensures that members’ voices are heard and that they stay ahead of legislative changes. To increase transparency and encourage member representatives to get involved, the RA has published a web page highlighting its four specialist groups:

The Rooflight Association’s Technical Committee Chair, Paul Smith, comments: “These working groups directly shape the rules and regulations that manufacturers, contractors, fabricators and installers work to every single day. The work may be happening quietly, behind the scenes, but it is vital, delivering huge benefits to our members while influencing and driving positive change across the sector.” The collective knowledge and insight of the working groups culminate in new and updated guidance published by The Rooflight Association which is free to download from its website. Founded in 2004, the Braveheart Cycling Fund provides grants to riders at one of the most financially challenging stages of their careers. The support can help cover the cost of competing, travelling, coaching and buying specialist equipment at a point when young athletes may be training at an elite level without earning an income from the sport.

Kathy Gilchrist, trustee of the Braveheart Cycling Fund, said: “Elite athletes don’t suddenly appear on Commonwealth or Olympic podiums. Their journeys start years earlier, and there is a crucial stage at which relatively modest financial support can make an enormous difference. “Erin is a perfect example. She already had the talent, determination and work ethic. Braveheart helped remove some of the financial barriers she faced before becoming a professional.

Jadeite Glazing’s results speak for themselves. The homeowners noted a significant improvement in living comfort during the summer months, with high-performance glass helping to prevent overheating – a benefit that demonstrates just how much the right product choice can transform everyday life at home. “This project is a reminder that not every replacement window installation needs to transform the look of a building,” said Sam Davies, Technical Manager at FENSA. “Sometimes the greatest skill lies in making sure nobody notices the change – while the homeowner feels it every single day. To support this, Forterro says it continues to invest in cloud technologies, connected platforms, AI-enabled capabilities and production automation. These investments are guided by what manufacturers are asking for: software that can grow with their business, connect information more effectively and make better use of the data they already have.

• ERP modernisation and business process optimisation • Multi-site operations and organisational visibility • Faster estimating and quotation processes • Engineering and production preparation

Forterro says most manufacturers do not want to start from scratch. They want to get more from the systems, processes and expertise they already have, while introducing new technologies where they deliver a clear and measurable benefit.
