Welcome
Windermere School is proud to offer an Immersion Programme that runs for the month of June each year. Immersion pupils will make friends from the UK and around the world whilst improving their English skills and developing their independence. They will study alongside Windermere School pupils and will participate in all aspects of school life, following the normal timetable of lessons in their year group. When Windermere School pupils study Modern Foreign Languages, our Immersion pupils will take part in extra English lessons.

Immersion pupils in Year 12 will complete an International Baccalaureate taster following either the Diploma Programme or Careerrelated pathway within our thriving Sixth Form community. During this time, they will live in our Sixth Form boarding house in university style, single sex apartments; the perfect preparation for life beyond school.
Immersion pupils will also enjoy sports, social events and activities including sailing at our private watersports centre on the shores of Windermere, and a weekly excursion.

Applications to attend the school at other times of year are welcomed, however, unlike our specialised June Immersion Programme, the cost of this will be on a pro-rata basis in relation to the termly fee. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept pupils into Year 13 at any time, and only welcome pupils into Years 10 and 11 at certain times of the year.
We ask that all June Immersion pupils arrive and depart on our designated Travel Days (Sunday 31 May and Friday 26 June 2026). Please note that there will be a surcharge to cover an airport transfer for individuals not arriving on designated school Travel Days.
ACCOMMODATION & CATERING
We pride ourselves on the standard of accommodation for our pupils. Each of our two boarding houses has a Houseparent who works closely with the House Assistants and Matrons. Our aim is to create a caring atmosphere in which our boarding pupils feel happy, secure and comfortable. We offer every boarder a true ‘home from home’ experience. We operate a no phone policy after 10pm to ensure pupils have a good night’s sleep.
We provide three meals a day of fresh, healthy food prepared by the school chefs. Everyday there are hot and cold options available as well as a salad bar, soup and baked potatoes. Fruit, biscuits, snacks and drinks are available in the boarding houses.
Packed lunches are provided for off-site activities. Vegetarian, vegan and all other special dietary needs can easily be catered for. The school operates a no nut policy within all controlled catering environments.

MEET YOUR HOUSEPARENTS
Westmorland Houseparent (Year 12)
Miss Imogen Lawlor has recently joined Westmorland House as Houseparent, bringing with her two much-loved companions Kola the dog and Tim the cat. She is passionate about helping the 16–18-year-olds in her care develop the skills they need for life. Within the house, there is a strong focus on independence and practical learning, whether that’s cooking, managing a household routine or navigating new cities on trips away.
Langdale Houseparent (Years 5 - 11)
Miss Grace Boyes has been working in state and private boarding schools for a number of years, and her passion lies in creating a nurturing family environment where individuals can thrive, both socially and culturally; as well as being supported academically. Outside of the Boarding House she enjoys Literature, is a big football fan, and loves to explore our incredible surroundings - with big plans to tick off all the Wainwrights during her time at Windermere!
Our Location
Manchester airport, offering connections to Europe and the rest of the world, is only a 90minute drive from the school, and we provide an escorted service to the airport on designated Travel Days.
There are plentiful interconnecting flights from all London airports. London is also reached by high-speed train in under three hours.

THE FINAL DETAILS
• Airport transfers to and from Manchester airport are included, provided pupils arrive and depart on the designated travel days.
• Places are limited by nationality and year group to ensure a diverse community mix.
• Accommodation is provided in a comfortable, homely boarding house environment.
• Pupils have three high quality, freshly prepared meals per day.
• Snacks and drinks are available in the boarding houses.
• Sports and activities are delivered by qualified instructors.
• Weekly excursions take place at the weekend. Admission to the attractions is included in your fee.
• Pupils have 24-hour access to pastoral care and medical support.
• Pupils will receive a short school report, including comments from the Head of Boarding, and their Academic Tutor at the end of their time with us.
