THE WINCHENDON SCHOOL
Progress
CROSSROADS OR INFLECTION POINT? John Kerney, Executive Director Greetings from Winchendon - that is the Winchendon that is no longer just a campus in MA or NY - but The Winchendon School of May 2020 which exists daily in over 325 homes and offices across our country and around the world. These could be trying times for a school like Winchendon. • Boarding schools, colleges and universities around the globe are working to figure out what it will take to reopen residential communities this fall - and how we satisfy students and parents that our campuses are safe places. • There is significant uncertainty about when and if international students and families, a critical part of the fabric in a community like ours, will be able to return. • And when we do get the students back on campus, how will life be different? Will there be interscholastic sports or theater productions? International travel or weekends away from campus? The array of challenges and unknowns can seem overwhelming on some days. For too many schools and colleges, this pandemic and the associated financial crisis will prove to be the last straw. Other schools and universities will flounder through it chewing up precious resources.
