Our faculty, staff and administration have many interests and talents outside of the work place. Betsy Ceparullo teaches a very popular zumba class. Mr. Verry has started his own band. Mrs. Hegenbarth has now climbed the 46 tallest peaks in the Adirondacks. Mr. Charriez runs the Friends organic garden. Annita Lowman works for Forgotten Cats, while Margot Johnson helps rescue dogs. During her sabbatical, Mrs. Butterfield took courses with music in technology. Mr. Schmittle is almost complete with the building of his tree house. Mary Woodward went on a Quaker pilgrimage to England, where she got to sit in Margaret Fell s chair during meeting for worship. Sia Willie and her son went to Liberia where she was born. Mr. Ergueta was recognized by the MOAS committee for 15 years of participation. Stephanie Knudsen traveled to Bolivia to learn about and work with the Quakers in La Paz. This year s student body was very busy, even outside of the classroom. Alicia Thompson was awarded the RAISE award for most impactful community fundraising effort from the National Stroke Awareness Foundation for her fundraiser Dan s Dash. Piara Biggs spent time during her year abroad working for The Jungle, a Syrian Refugee camp in France. This year s Junior class welcomed AFS student Roc Terricabres Esperalba from Spain. Cecilia Ergueta was the state champion in the Poetry Out Loud competition and moved on to the nationals. Bianca Ramsey, Ali Miller, Anna Baldwin, Mycah Nicholson, Olivia Finizio, and Una Winn were busy spreading kindness through their Random Acts of Kindness club. Emily Rossi and Jack Hanson sang at the Inauguration of Governor John Carney. Matt Banschbach and Emily Fenimore were recognized at the YMCA Youth Government for Outstanding Delegate and Outstanding Legislation. Just like her mom, Estelle Hegenbarth has climbed 30 of the highest peaks in the Adirondacks. And much more... Students

This was a very exciting year for events at WFS. In the Upper School, club sponsored functions, such as Prism Night and GSA Lock-In, had major turn outs. The newly founded One Love Foundation club had a very successful first Powder Puff football tournament. The Mock Trial team defended their state championship title this year. The B+ Committee hosted their 4th annual Quakeover Cancer dance. Alice s March went up to Philadelphia the day before the Inauguration to participate in a women s rights march. This year s History Bowl sent one varsity team and one JV team to Nationals in Washington. Half the Sky held their annual Bead for Life fundraiser. Upper School Chamber Singers performed the National Anthem at the naturalization ceremony at the Wilmington Courthouse in May. The 4th graders were honored for their performance at the Delaware Day competition. This past Thanksgiving, the 6th grade made 30 pies to donate to charity. The 8th grade helped unload trucks of donated food at the Lutheran Family Services food panty each month. School Life

Lots of exciting events occurred at WFS this year, ranging from Link Crew Orientation to the 1st grade butterfly migration! We boasted multiple plays and musicals, kicking off the year with the Upper School musical Into the Woods, and continuing with the 8th grade musical Guys and Dolls, and the 5th grade play Honk! This year Matt Byer wrote and starred in his play Making a Man Horse, with Leah Johnson and Emily Rossi directing. There were many exciting student-run events this year as the blood drive had its biggest turn out ever. Spirit week and homecoming were very exciting with the senior class winning the most spirited grade (as predicted). On top of that, each sports team won their homecoming game! The 5th grade went on a great trip to DC and the 2nd grade put on their annual wax museum. There were many parades including the Lower School Halloween parade, which featured the seniors walking with their 1st grade buddies, and the Lower School peace parade. Events

This was a very successful year for fall & winter Quaker sports. Connor Nisbet was the Delaware Boys Runner of the Year (DI & DII). Both he and his 6th grade sister Aubrey Nisbet became nationally ranked as tennis players. Aubrey also received the sportsmanship award for the Middle States. The football team were conference champs and made it all the way to the state championship game for the first time in 32 years. This football season Coach Tattersall won his 300th game. Many of our players were selected to play in the Blue & Gold All Star games: Henry Gise, Justin Beneck, and Andrew Jaworski for football, and Jayna Jones and Jordan Perkins for basketball. The girls field hockey and volleyball teams made it to the quarter finals of their state tournaments. Three of our athletes were recognized as Athletes of the Week: Natalie DePaulo (girls basketball), Blair Atkins (swimming), and Connor Nisbet (cross country). The middle school girls basketball team had an undefeated season. The girls swim team won conference for the second year in a row and were sixth in the state, with Ashley Chompre placing first overall in the 100 fly and third in the 200 IM at the state meet. Sports

This spring at WFS was more than exciting. All of the bands and choirs gave wonderful performances. The fifth grade production of Honk! was incredibly riveting and entertaining, as was the upper school production of All in the Timing. Meanwhile, others created history with the very first LGBT+ all inclusive dance. Students demonstrated their skills at the Spring Fling and the National History Bowl. In the Middle School, students and faculty recorded mind-boggling numbers in their annual 5k benefit run. This same dedication was shown during the Middle School Fair, which is always a lot of fun. The 6th grade created their very own organic garden, while 7th grade showed great stewardship during their trip to 10,000 Villages. In the Lower School this year, students exhibited a new level of creativity in the annual Wax Museum. The 4th grade showed off their entrepreneurial skills and opened up a new oppurtunity for the community as a whole with the 4th Grade Market. Lower School students enjoyed the exciting Field Day as a cap to the end of their year. And the ever popular RAK club served up delicious toppings for the ice cream at the Yearbook Party.
