This intensive workshop will work on developing models of occupation of the great urban voids, the result of the obsolescence of the industries typical of the 20th century.
We will study a classic example of these opportunities in the unique city of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, analyzing from a conceptual point of view how it is possible to develop occupation models specific for this century, which are capable to face challenges such as climate change, or adapt to the processes of a circular economy - and a circular design.
The case study is a park in an old abandoned industrial area, adjacent to a high-density community area such as the Jacarezinho favela, and located in a particularly significant point of centrality with respect to whole the metropolitan area.
We will discuss the future possibilities of this area, between continuing to be the periphery of the urban center, or becoming the centriphery of a new metropolitan area.
