Iqoniq: your path

to low impact garments

At iqoniq, we understand the importance of minimising our impact on the environment. While it is true that all products have some degree of impact, we are dedicated to reducing this impact to the absolute minimum. Our brand is on a mission to produce clothing that leaves the lightest ecological footprint possible.

Here is how we are making it happen:

1. Recycled Materials:

Our entire iqoniq collection is crafted from recycled materials. The level of recycled content may vary depending on the fabric type we offer. Some fabrics feature a remarkable 100% recycled content, while others blend recycled fibres with additional materials to ensure top-quality, long-lasting fabrics. You will find recycled content ranging from 30% to 100% in our fabrics.

2. Mono Materials:

Our commitment extends to the very composition of our clothing. We use mono materials, which are easy to recycle, ensuring that the end of a product's life cycle is as close to net zero as possible.

3. Undyed colours:

For a part of our cotton collection (our heather colours) we have eliminated the dyeing process. The recycled cotton in its existing colour is blended with virgin organic cotton, which creates the beautiful heather mélange effect. So using recycled cotton already saves precious resources, but with our undyed styles, the savings are even greater.

At iqoniq, we believe in transparency, not buzzwords. We do not rely on claims like "sustainable, "green," or "eco-friendly" to describe our products. Instead, we believe in being honest and clear about how our products are made. We are here to inspire the clothing industry to be more transparent in reducing environmental impacts.

Our mission is simple: To empower you, the consumer, to make informed decisions about the clothing brands you choose to support. We provide you with solid facts through the Aware™ Virtual ID, a digital product passport. This passport contains data powered by the Aware™ tracer and block chain technology, providing insight into the impact of our products.

2.1: Recycled cotton

Cotton, the cornerstone of the textile world, holds a paradoxical role as both beloved fabric and prolific waste generator. Europe alone discards a staggering 5 million tonnes of clothing annually1), fuelling a global waste crisis. In countries like Bangladesh and India, textile production waste soars to even greater heights.

In a bid to minimise our environmental footprint and combat waste, iqoniq has taken a bold step towards integrating recycled cotton into our production process, creating premium garments while drastically reducing our reliance on virgin materials. Our commitment focuses on pre-consumer cotton waste, using discarded textiles from production, such as cut-offs, rejected fabrics, and unused cotton components.

Recognising that the length of recycled cotton fibres does not produce strong enough fabric, we adopted an innovative approach. Our blends consist of 100% cotton, strategically combining recycled and virgin organic fibres to optimise fabric strength, extend the product lifecycle, and deliver that irresistibly soft handfeel.

2.2: Organic cotton

Enter organic cotton, the embodiment of ethical and eco-responsible textile practices that underscore our clothing designs. Its cultivation pivots on ecological principles, swapping chemical fertilisers and pesticides for natural compost, safeguarding both farmers' well-being and the purity of field waters.

But it doesn't stop there; genetic modification is a strict no-go in the organic cotton realm, preserving ecosystems, nurturing biodiversity, and championing environmental equilibrium in the vicinity of cotton fields.

In iqoniq's collection, the choice is clear – we have integrated organic cotton into our material blends, elevating fabric quality and enhancing that irresistible soft touch.

Recycled polyester

In the world of textile, recycled polyester emerges as an unsung hero, a synthetic fibre born from post-consumer PET bottles, and it's a star player in iqoniq's low-impact collection. This marvel upholds the same quality standards as virgin polyester, offering equal strength, elasticity, durability, and colourfastness.

What sets recycled polyester apart is its ability to sidestep the petroleum-based production process, conserving precious natural resources. However, the ecological upsides do not end there. Crafting recycled polyester consumes less energy, emits fewer CO2 emissions, and demands less water, all while sparing the planet from the plague of non-degradable waste.

But let's face the facts. Recycled polyester, like its virgin counterpart, confronts a significant challenge at the end of its lifecycle – it is not biodegradable. That is where iqoniq's mission comes into play. Not only do we create high-quality products from discarded materials, but we also prioritise mono materials, simplifying the second wave of recycling where only mono materials can be reprocessed.

Colour can play a major role in consumer decision-making. The Iqoniq colours exists of a wide range with three different types of appealing colours: undyed heather colours, essential dyed colours and seasonal colours. For our heather colours we have eliminated the dyeing process. The recycled cotton in its existing colour is blended with virgin organic cotton, which creates the beautiful heather mélange effect.

The Classic Fit emphasises a nice silhouette, leaving enough space for comfort. It has a straight cut throughout the chest and waist, is nicely fitted across the shoulders and has shorter sleeves.

Printing options

We stand to our values and follow our low

impact story till the very end customer

In house we only decorate with the following 3 low impact decoration techniques. Those techniques are OEKO-TEX and GOTS compliant, made with almost a fully circular water use.

1) Digital Transfer:

DTF is the most suitable decoration that allows any type of picture to be printed on a foil and heat pressed on to the garment.

2) Screen transfer:

ST is a similar technique to DTF where the image is transferred on the foil using screen printing.

3) Embroidery:

Remains the most noble decoration technique that can enhance your product to become a real piece of art!

*Combination of heat press and embroidery is possible and gives to the garment a valuable 3D effect.

Disclaimer / Note

Recycled cotton material offers some challenges with colour transfer printing, other than regular cotton. To avoid problems with printing, we recommend using our dedicated partner.

How can you be sure that the sustainability claims we make are trustable? We aim to avoid greenwashing and prove that final products are made from sustainable materials. Therefore we teamed up with Aware™, a traceability platform that makes data public to track and validate the end-to-end impact of sustainable textiles from origin to you. Powered by tracer and blockchain technologies.

Digital Product Passport (DPP)

All Iqoniq products have an Aware™ Virtual ID that gives you complete transparency and the facts of your sustainable choices. The Aware™ blockchain application is making trusted impact data public and available for final consumers with a simple scan of a QR code.

The data is directly from the makers of the products, the producers. All impact data and the complete journey of each garment are given.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances.

Cutting waste used in our fabrics is not certified. That is why we have all our fabric components tested by an OEKO-TEX® authorised laboratory for harmful substances. Every Iqoniq article is OEKO-TEX® certified, harmless to human health.

As part of our continuous effort to improve working conditions in the supply chain, we ensure all our Iqoniq products are manufactured in production facilities with a valid social audit according to the amfori BSCI auditing framework and Code of Conduct. This framework upholds strict social standards in line with international conventions like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Water.org is a global non-profit organisation working to bring water and sanitation to the world. Water.org believes water is the best investment the world can make to improve health, empower women, enable access to education, increase family income and change lives. Yet, 771 million people lack access to safe water. We support water.org by donating 2% of product proceeds of each product sold from the Iqoniq collection.
