When speaking to a stylist, often times they will suggest only washing your hair twice per week. In some cases, depending on your lifestyle and hair type, you may only need to wash your hair once per week. But the latest and greatest thing on the market, that we are hearing a buzz about is that of Dry Shampoos. Several of today’s top manufacturers have a line dedicated to dry shampoo and we’ re here to give the Smackdown on what is good and what is okay.

Every day, over-the-counter shampoos are fine, but even the leading companies such as Goldwell have introduced their versions of dry shampoos to refresh your locks at a moment’s notice.

Klorane was a Dry Shampoo original that you can find as an international product. This brand seems to be good as a Volumizer or root boost and is highly botanical. One thing that we liked about this brand is its quick application and there was no drying time necessary. (Hence the word dry) There was no stickiness or residue afterwards, but there was very little odor, making this a pretty good choice. One thing we don’t like about this brand is that people with sensitive scalps may be prone to itching. A good dry shampoo will not usually have after effects. But if you are one of those allergic this is one you should test first before purchasing.

Next Detox Shampoo made by Drybar, adds a little boost to your root area, it also has a deodorizer for your hair. Better than rubbing a dryer sheet on your locks believe me! Just like all dry shampoos this absorbs the oils and does feel light an airy. This is more of a powder base shampoo. One thing we do like about this is the fragrance of sandalwood and jasmine.

When it comes to Dry Shampoo you get what you pay for. This is evident when you try a few of the less expensive versions after being spoiled by the real deal. Garnier’s Fructis Volume Extend and Instant Bodifier has its own version of dry shampoos along with Herbal Essence. What we’ve found however is that these are modified and can tend to leave the hair feeling like you poured baby powder or it tends to get gummy in the hot Florida sun and humidity.

Redken uses a Powder Refresher that can help extend the life of your blowout. This can be super great for even those with the finest hair. However, it shouldn’t be used if you’ll be spending time outdoors. The reason being is there is a powdery residue that can be taken out easily, but it can be really annoying too.

Batiste is one that can be purchased at places like Ultra and Amazon. This is a relatively inexpensive brand, but again the results will help you determine if you want to invest another penny just to throw it under your bathroom sink.

The Oscar Blandi’s Pronto product was a real turn-off. While the smell was extremely overwhelming, the flaky appearance left on the hair wasn’t anything you’d be proud of. We say stay away from this type of product all the way around.

While a few of these didn’t make the cut, our favorite Dry Shampoo is made by Goldwell Hair Products is a Unisex product that is really perfect for thin and baby fine hair. While this product gently cleanses the hair from the follicle to the ends, it has a nice smell and really pumps up the volume without weighing it down.

The best thing we can say if you haven’t added dry shampoo to your arsenal of beauty supplies is give it a try. Most people think it’s the greatest thing next to mango martini’s we just think it makes sense while you’re in between hair washing days.
