SPLASH INTO SUMMER

Your Seasonal Guide to Willowsford’s Pools, Ponds & Parks

Warmer days are finally here, and that means it’s time to make the most of our beautiful amenities! Whether you’re planning a picnic, casting a line, or diving into pool season, here’s everything you need to know to enjoy the great outdoors in Willowsford.

Pool Season Kicks Off Memorial Day Weekend

Get your swimsuits ready— pools officially open Memorial Day weekend! The Lodge Pool, Sycamore Pool, and Splash Park are perfect for cooling off, soaking up the sun, and making memories with family and friends. We can’t wait to see you poolside!

Parks & Playgrounds: Open Daily

Our parks and playgrounds are open during daylight hours, offering the perfect setting for morning walks, afternoon playdates, and evening strolls. Whether you’re enjoying the swings or simply soaking up the sun, there’s something for everyone.

Reserve a Pavilion for Your Next Get-Together

Planning a birthday bash or neighborhood BBQ? Our scenic pavilions can be reserved for private use. Just contact our Lifestyle Team to check availability and lock in your date. It’s a

great way to celebrate while enjoying the outdoors.

Pond Guidelines: Look, Don’t Leap

While our ponds are a peaceful part of the community landscape, please remember that wading or swimming is not permitted. For those who love fishing, you’re welcome to cast a line where permitted—just remember it’s catch and release, unless otherwise posted. And yes, it’s tempting, but please do not feed the geese or other wildlife. Keeping nature wild is best for everyone.

Kayaking Made Easy

Love a little adventure on the water? During pool season, residents can enjoy kayaking on Willow Lake in The Greens. Simply complete the necessary forms with our lifeguards at the Lodge Pool. Don’t forget—guests must be accompanied by an adult at all times while kayaking. Let’s all do our part to keep these spaces clean, safe, and fun for everyone. Whether you’re floating, fishing, or just relaxing on a park bench, there’s no better time to get outside and enjoy everything our community has to offer.

Visit www.willowsfordlife.com to find a list of amenities and their locations. See you out there!

Get Fishing

this Summer!

One of the many great benefits of living in Willowsford is access to unique locations for outdoor recreational activities, including fishing! Did you know that there are 13 fishable areas here in Willowsford owned by your Conservancy and HOA? In the waters of Willowsford you’ll find a variety of fish ranging from bluegill and sunfish to catfish and bass. Fishing is a great way to connect with nature, bond with family, and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced angler, we want to encourage you to fish responsibly to preserve our waterways and ensure they can be enjoyed by all for years to come!

WHAT TO BRING

(BESIDES YOUR ROD AND REEL)

Being Prepared helps ensure a smooth and safe fishing trip. Here’s a checklist of essentials:

• Be sure to always carry your fishing license (required for anglers 16 and older )

• A first aid kit

• Fishing hemostats or forceps to help remove small hooks from fish.

• Pocket knife or multitool to cut fishing line.

• A bag for used fishing line, bait packaging, or any other trash

• A tape measure and hanging scale if you want to measure your catch but remember ponds in Willowsford are catch and release only

BEST PRACTICES FOR FISHING RESPONSIBLY

To protect our local wildlife and keep our waterways safe and pleasant for everyone, please be sure to follow these guidelines:

• Always be aware of other fishermen, respect their space.

• Make sure to clean up any and all trash that you bring. Do not leave any fishing line behind. If you see any fishing line, please be sure to pick it up, as wildlife can get caught in it,

which can cause them injury or even death.

• Check to make sure the hook & bait you are using are appropriate for the size of fish in our ponds— too big a hook will hurt your chances and have a higher likelihood of injuring the fish.

• Always remove the hooks and fishing line from your catch before releasing it back. If you’re unable to remove the hook, cut the line as close to the hook as possible (and it will rust out).

• Many of the ponds have turtles that will not hesitate to go for your bait. Do your best to avoid them, but if you accidentally hook one, don’t set your hook and then follow the directions above.

• Be mindful of where you’re casting to avoid getting fishing line stuck in trees, bushes, and pond vegetation.

Honoring Setu Coryea

Setu Coryea: a wife, a

Overall, Setu Coryea is not only a great help to the schools, sports teams, and community, but she is also a great help to everyone in our community, which is why I believe she deserves to be this month’s Notable Neighbor, because all the kind acts she does for everyone are very notable!

Setu happily volunteers every week at her son’s elementary school, 3 days a week! Her volunteer work is mainly at the front office and helping classroom teachers. She also helps plan school events and volunteers with her kids’ sports teams.

Setu enjoys reading books and traveling in her free time. She’s a world traveler and has been to many countries and even lived in London for many years! She also enjoys cooking; she makes very tasty dishes! Cooking for others and sharing food is one of the ways she shows her love.

She was an extremely large help after I had my accident. She visited me often in the hospital and brought me so many things I might have needed. She helped my family a lot for simple things that impacted everything. She researched new recipes to cook for me, trying to find things she knew I’d like – it was so thoughtful of her. She visited my house many times when I still couldn’t move around that much and had to stay downstairs. She would check in on us and ask if she could help with anything for my mom or me.

Overall, Setu Coryea is not only a great help to the schools, sports teams, and community, but she is also a great help to everyone in our community, which is why I believe she deserves to be this month’s Notable Neighbor, because all the kind acts she does for everyone are very notable!

Do you know somebody who consistently puts others before themselves and supports others in need, whether large or small, but often flies under the radar? To nominate a fellow neighbor for this honor, send an email to billie.rose@strollmag.com.

meet the Ednie Family

THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY CHANTILLY NATIONAL GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

Lovely, lively and growing!

Four years ago, the Ednie family put down roots in Grove Village, bringing their lively crew to Willowsford.

Kaira and Gene, both from Northern Virginia, met at West Virginia University. What began as a friendship in college turned into romance after graduation, leading to their wedding in 2016. By 2018, they were expanding their family—and they haven’t stopped since.

Today, the Ednie family is a lively, active household of six. Trey (6) and Tanner (5) bond over basketball and video games. You can often see them dribbling on the court or teaming up in front of the screen. Their little brother

Thomas (3) is right behind them, eager to follow in their footsteps. Then there’s Kinley (1), who carries baby dolls in one hand and footballs in the other, whose parents lovingly compare her to Icebox from Little Giants

With two rescue dogs, Kiko and Shady, and two rescue cats, Andy and Bob—named after former Philadelphia Eagles players—it’s a house full of love and a touch of superstition. “Oddly enough, every player our pets were named after left the team after we adopted them,” Gene laughs. “It’s become a running joke in our house.”

Kaira and Gene have stayed true to their careers since graduating in 2011.

Kaira is a Senior Project Manager at American Fire Systems, and Gene works as a sales executive in the data center industry. They appreciate companies that support their community and prioritize family.

Naples, Florida, holds a special place in the Ednies’ hearts as a favorite family getaway where the kids enjoy hunting for seashells. Their growing collection has become a cherished tradition. But it’s the everyday moments that matter most—first steps, school achievements, and the pride on their kids’ faces when they try new things.

“Now we watch our kids discover who they are, and it’s amazing to see their love for andsports each other grow.”

The couple embraces adventure, too. “We went bungee jumping off a bridge on our honeymoon,” Kaira recalls with a smile. That bold spirit has stayed with them through parenting and beyond. “We’ve always been a close family,” Gene shares. “Now we watch our kids discover who they are, and it’s amazing to see their love for sports and each other grow.” They both agree: living in Willowsford has strengthened that bond. “We couldn’t ask for better neighbors or a more supportive community. We’re so grateful to be here.”

As their family grows, so do their memories. With three boys and a spirited daughter, the Ednie family knows the journey ahead will be lively. Their motto? “Life’s tough. Get a helmet.”

Right now, they’re enjoying the spring season of life. One that is full of firsts, energy, and excitement for what’s next.

Lacrosse, Leadership, and Legacy

Resident Jessica Shea’s Journey on and off the Field

FOR RESIDENT JESSICA SHEA, lacrosse wasn’t love at first sight, but close. She picked up a stick for the first time in 8th grade, switching from softball, and immediately found her passion. That spark carried her through high school and into college. As a four-year starter at Ithaca College, she scored 207 career points and helped lead her team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, earning All-American honors by her senior year, and most recently was inducted into Ithaca’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Even after college, her dedication

didn’t wane. After relocating to Washington, D.C., she founded a post-collegiate team and continued playing for another eight years until the birth of her first child, Davis.

But stepping off the field didn’t mean stepping away from the game.

“When Davis turned five and joined the Scoopers program, I started coaching rec lacrosse,” Shea says. “First with boys, then with the Dulles South Girls program when my daughter Drew was ready. Coaching gave me the chance to build girls’ confidence, grow their love of the sport, and spend time with my daughter—it’s something I truly treasure, especially with my busy work schedule.”

This past summer, Shea and Drew took a leap into the world of travel lacrosse, joining the 3D Lacrosse program. What started as a simple sign-up turned into something bigger: a coaching opportunity. After

chatting with the club director, Shea was invited to lead the 4th/5th grade team, and brought along many of the girls she’d already coached in rec.

Now, as a first-time travel coach and parent, she’s witnessing exponential growth in her players. “It’s been incredible watching the girls improve in such a short time,” she shares. “3D’s methodology is thoughtful and balanced, and the club encourages multi-sport athletes, which I strongly believe in as well.”

Coaching runs deep in Shea’s family. Her father was a college football coach, her brother coaches high school football, and her husband is a high school and youth football coach. “It’s in my blood,” she laughs.

For her daughter Drew, the draw of lacrosse is simple: “She loves her teammates, playing middie, and getting to run,” Shea says proudly. Shea encourages families looking to get involved in lacrosse to start with the Dulles South rec league, which runs programs in fall and spring, or to check out 3D’s summer training starting in June. “Girls can start as early as six,” she adds. “For private lessons or small group trainings, I recommend Fast Break Lacrosse, which is run by the Independence High School Girls’ coach.” She’s happy to chat with neighbors who have questions about lacrosse or would like to learn more - email her at Jess.Shea2121@gmail.com.

One highlight for the team?

Attending the first-ever Professional Women’s Lacrosse League game. “It was during a snowstorm—scary drive—but totally worth it,” Shea recalls. “Seeing the players up close made a huge impact on Drew and her teammates.”

From player to coach, Jessica Shea continues to stay connected to the game—and is helping more kids discover their own love for lacrosse!

LCDS HITS A HIGH NOTE

Show Choir stuns Wizards crowd with a powerful anthem performance on the big stage.

ON MARCH 31, the Loudoun Country Day School (LCDS) Show Choir traveled to Washington, D.C., for a truly unforgettable experience—performing the National Anthem at the Washington Wizards game! The trip was organized and chaperoned by Mrs. Roos, the Lower School music teacher and Show Choir Director, whose leadership and passion continue to inspire her students.

Seventeen members of the Show Choir took center court, delivering a powerful rendition of the National Anthem in front of thousands of fans. Their performance not only highlighted their musical talent, but also their dedication, teamwork, and passion for singing. The crowd responded with

enthusiastic applause, and the LCDS community in attendance beamed with pride.

Colin Cubarney, an 8th grader at LCDS and Willowsford resident, shared his excitement: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Being able to perform in front of an audience that large feels like an out-of-body experience.”

Before their big moment, the choir enjoyed a behindthe-scenes experience, including a center-court sound check while players warmed up and time backstage with fellow performers. This marks the fourth time LCDS has been invited to perform for the Wizards, a testament to the program’s excellence and the hard work of its director.

Reflecting on the experience, Mrs. Roos said, “It is my joy to watch these musicians grow and shine. To have the confidence at the ages of 12–14 to perform in front of an audience of thousands is incredible. I could not be prouder of this ensemble.”

Thanks to Mrs. Roos’ vision and dedication, LCDS students continue to experience the magic of music on a grand stage— creating memories they will cherish for a lifetime.

Selling with Purpose: How We Attract the Right Buyer for Your Home Real Estate

Michelle: So, let’s talk about what actually happens when you hire us to sell your home in Willowsford. Because I think a lot of people assume that selling a home just means snapping some photos, writing a quick description, and throwing it on the MLS.

Deborah: Right, and that’s exactly why so many sellers leave money on the table. We don’t do that. We dig deeper. We craft a marketing strategy that moves people.

Michelle: And that starts with getting crystal clear on who your ideal buyer is.

Deborah: Because not every buyer is the same! A young family looking for a place to grow into is totally different from someone downsizing but still wanting luxury. We need to know who we’re speaking to.

Michelle: Then, we figure out why they’ll feel like they can’t let your home go. What’s going to make them walk in and say, “This is it”?

Deborah: Maybe it’s the chef’s kitchen where they can host big family gatherings. Maybe it’s the backyard retreat where they can unwind at the end of the day. We tap into that emotion.

Michelle: And then, we price it strategically—so they don’t just love it, they feel the urgency to make an offer now.

Welcome to our regular sponsored Q&A column with Michelle Perl Stanko and Deborah Perl Davis. As experienced Realtors, we bring valuable insights into market trends and topics specifically relevant to Willowsford, where Michelle Stanko and her family reside. Have questions? Send them to Michelle@thepearlteam.com for future columns. Enjoy!

Deborah: Because pricing isn’t just about the number—it’s about positioning. It’s about creating demand so buyers feel like they have to act.

Michelle: And once we have that strategy? We bring it to life.

Deborah: Yes, we’ll film your home in its best light, but we don’t just market features—we market moments.

Michelle: The slow mornings with coffee on the porch. The laughter-filled dinner parties. The first snowfall from the kitchen window.

Deborah: Those little things? That’s what makes a buyer fall in love.

Michelle: And that’s what gets you the best possible offer.

Deborah: So, if you’re curious about what this could look like for your home, let’s talk.

Michelle: Send us a DM or comment START below, and we’ll reach out to get the process started.

Deborah: Because at The Pearl Team, selling your home isn’t just a transaction—it’s a strategy, an art, and a responsibility.

Empowering Through ECHO

WELCOME BACK TO the Making a Difference feature in Stroll Willowsford. Today, we’re highlighting a non-profit that truly is making waves and changing lives in the community! ECHO was established 50 years ago by a group of parents deeply concerned for their children with developmental disabilities. After aging out of the school system, there were few to no resources available to help adults with disabilities find employment. ECHO became one of the prime resources in our area for this.

Group Supported Employment (GSE) participants returning to ECHO after spending the day at their worksite

Two GSE participants who work on our grounds grew. We have quite a few grounds contracts: FAA, Community Foundation, Janelia, Morven Park, and our Grounds Crew beautifies ECHO as well!
An ECHO LIFE Day Support participant during a community outing focused on STEM and skill-building.

There are three main programs available. The Supported Employment Program includes 2 different pathways: individual and group support. In every aspect of the Supported Employment Program, a professional support team handles job placement and skill building, mostly centered around workplace readiness. In group support, 2-12 people work together and will be working at a facility directly partnered with ECHO. Some of ECHO’s partners include SimplyBe Coffee, Janelia Research Campus, the FAA, and Inova Hospital. Here they will work a full day with regular hours and a lunch break. Individual support focuses on finding a job in the community, and the client may not be in contact with ECHO staff every day.

Along with employment support is ECHO transportation. Over 20 buses take employees from their homes to work, and back. But not every participant at ECHO is actively employed or trying to find a job. The final part of the mission plan is the LIFE Day Support. This program teaches adults with disabilities life skills such as money management, hygiene, and cooking. LIFE Day Support is just as vital to what they do, as it focuses more on community integration and social engagement for individuals who may not be seeking employment. I learned all this information from Mariah Baker, a Business Development

Coordinator at ECHO. She has been working there for over a year. Ms. Baker would like to share, “Celebrating 50 years of ECHO isn’t just about honoring our past; it’s about recognizing the incredible individuals we serve and the community that’s grown around them. This milestone is a powerful reminder of the impact of inclusion and opportunityand we can’t wait to celebrate with our community this June as we look ahead to the next 50 years.”

We would like to formally invite you all to ECHO’s 50th Anniversary Celebration on June 14 from 5 -10 pm. It’s sponsored by ECHO’s partner,

Janelia Research Campus, so an extra big thanks to them. The band Rowdy Ace and a live DJ will be the featured live music. Toth Financial is sponsoring the fireworks show at the end of the night. So, after learning about Echo, don’t you want to support this mission too? Donations are always appreciated. Scan the QR code to the website to donate and find out more about ECHO. We hope to see you on the 14th!

Hitting All the Right Notes

Willard’s Fiddle Fest showcases Celtic charm with Sean Heely and student musicians.

THIS SPRING, AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE by Celtic Fiddler Sean Heely occurred at Willard Middle School! On the night of the performance, students from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestra stayed after school to learn traditional music to join in the evening’s Fiddle Fest! Many popular and traditional Celtic songs were played, including the Skye Boat Song, which was performed by Sean and the 7th-grade orchestra. Willard Orchestra Director Bryce Anderson said, “It’s important to me and (Orchestra Director) Somok Yoo to provide a variety of different opportunities for our students. Fiddle Fest allows us to connect with our students and community in a fun and unique way.”

But how did Fiddle Fest start, and why is it so important? Well, it’s been an annual tradition at Willard for 3 years. It started when another school hosted a similar event with Sean Heely. The middle school staff decided that Willard students would benefit from learning fiddle playing styles from a professional Celtic Fiddler. Normally, to see Sean play, you’d have to buy tickets to a performance somewhere like the Kennedy Center. We not only got to hear him perform locally, but we also had the unique experience to play alongside him, too!

6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestra students each had a chance to play a set with Sean.
All student participants recieved a Fiddle Fest t-shirt.

If you haven’t heard of Sean Heely, you should listen to some of his music. He’s an award-winning fiddler who specializes in Celtic tradition. Sean has performed all over the world! It was especially exciting that he found the time to work with middle school students. He even took the time to stay after the show and sign students’ t-shirts! For the Willowsford community, this is a great experience close by that’s lots of fun, especially with so many of our neighbors involved. Keep an eye out for next spring’s Fiddle Fest and come join us!

Cracking the MIT Code

A grad shares what makes MIT unique—from admissions to innovation.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has long been recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious institutions of higher education, renowned for its cuttingedge research and commitment to technological innovation. With a curriculum that emphasizes both theory and practice, it attracts some of the brightest minds from across the globe. To gain deeper insight into the MIT experience, I interviewed Navpreet Singh, a graduate who recently earned his bachelor’s degree in Science in Artificial Intelligence and Decision Making, with a Concentration in Economics. After graduating he now works as a Quantitative Developer. Like me, I thought Willowsford students and families would find this information helpful when planning their future. Here’s a quick rundown of some questions I asked him and his answers:

What was your experience during the enrollment process?

The enrollment process for college is always stressful. Mine was no exception. Writing a personal essay is surprisingly difficult, as there are many considerations you have to make. What type of story do you want to tell the admissions officers? What stories do they want to hear? What is the appropriate amount of achievements to discuss? Most difficult of all: who are you? Having to do so much introspection while dealing with the stresses of school and extracurriculars was very difficult, but also the most fruitful. I was always told schools just want to know who you are, so I tried to give them just that. Thankfully, it worked out in the end.

If you are a student who would like to go to MIT one day, doubting yourself and what you want is only going to hinder you. Act on your interests and do not hold yourself back.

Are there any specific requirements that surprised you?

No requirement truly surprised me. Most of the questions were similar to other applications, discussing what my interests were and how I expressed them. The questions sought to understand who I was and what I was interested in. I applied during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the chaos of the time brought interesting changes to the requirements compared to previous years, most notably the application being test-optional. Recently MIT has reverted to requiring test scores, I believe, but I am not sure that has drastically altered the admission office’s decision-making process.

Hey, kids! Our neighborhood is full of great stories! Do you have a feature to suggest? Just email billie.rose@strollmag.com!

How would you differentiate the curriculum from other universities?

MIT’s reputation as a STEM-first school is reflected in the curriculum. The institute requires that every student take Calculus I and II, Physics I and II, Chemistry, and Biology to graduate, which is very unique. The course offerings in each department are endless, and students are allowed to take exams to skip courses they feel confident in so that they are always challenged during their time here. They say that studying at MIT is “like drinking from a firehose” – there will always be difficult, yet interesting new material you will be trying to absorb.

Are there opportunities for summer programs for high schoolers? If any, could you please list the specifics below?

The MITES program (MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science) is one of the most impactful programs our school runs. The program’s goal is to advance access to STEM to highly motivated students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. The program offers summer and in-semester programs for high school seniors, as well as a Saturday program for 7th-12th graders local to the Boston/Cambridge area. This program represents everything MIT is about.

What advice would you give prospective students who would like to enter?

MIT is a wonderful school and changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. I still remember jumping up and down with my family when I opened my acceptance email. I thought I had no chance of getting in. I thought I had not done enough during my time in high school. I had this imagined concept of what an MIT student was, and the self-doubt that creeps in is inevitable. If you are a student who would like to go to MIT one day, doubting yourself and what you want is only going to hinder you. Act on your interests and do not hold yourself back. Not only will you be happier and more fulfilled, but you also might get into MIT.

In summary, the things I learned from talking to an MIT student really show how special the school’s academic culture and creativity are. It’s clear that the teamwork and support at MIT, along with the amazing resources for students, help everyone not only excel in their studies but also grow as individuals and think outside the box. Being at MIT gives students the skills and ideas they need to face real-life problems, turning them into leaders in their fields. When we think about the amazing education MIT offers, it’s obvious that the school will keep being a place of knowledge and innovation for future generations.

MATILDA MAGIC IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Elaine Thompson students visited nearby Independence High for a fun, feel-good musical starring familiar faces!

BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER SCARLETT TAYLOR

PHOTOS COURTESY OF REBECCA DANZENBAKER PHOTOGRAPHY

Hello! My name is Scarlett Taylor, and I am in the fifth grade at Elaine Thompson Elementary School. Earlier this year, my school was surprised with a trip to see Matilda the musical at our neighborhood high school, Independence High School. I was so excited!

First, let me tell you a little bit about the musical. Matilda is an underestimated, brilliant girl who loves to read. She has very rude parents and a rude brother. Matilda finally gets to go to school for the first grade and meets Ms.Honey, her teacher. She also meets the headmistress, Ms.Trunchbull. Ms.Trunchbull is a mean, old, grumpy lady who likes to make kids’ lives even worse. Matilda realizes this and stands up to Ms.Trunchbull and saves every kid at her school.

Continuing on, my whole school got invited, K-5, to see the musical! The first grade at another Willowsford neighborhood school, Madison’s Trust, also got to go see it with us. In this article, I will be sharing what happened from when we got there to when we left.

First, we arrived at Independence near 9:00 am on the bus. My friends and I were able to sit together on the bus, boy, were we excited! When we got off the bus, it was raining! I was getting soaked walking to the doors, but in the long run it was worth it.

Next, my school sat down and ate lunch together at 10:00 am. We got to eat in a high school cafeteria! That was really cool and a special opportunity to eat there.

Then, my school went to our seats in the auditorium, and I got to sit with my friends. We waited for about ten minutes for the show to start, and while we were waiting, I just chatted with my friends. You could literally feel the excitement building in the room. Many of us even knew some of the students who were going to be performing!

When the show started, I was amazed. It was a great performance, and everyone on the stage was so talented. There were so many good singers, dancers, and even acrobats!

After the performance ended, it was time to return to Elaine Thompson. It

was not raining anymore, luckily, and it was a smooth bus ride home.

That was my experience at Independence High School to see Matilda the musical, and it was fantastic! It was great to see other kids, a part of our community, perform! If you didn’t get a chance to catch the musical at Independence, you can watch Matilda on Prime Video and on Netflix.

EDWARD JONES

Financial Uncertainty into Family Security

When Steve Ide walked away from a real estate career that left him feeling unfulfilled, he wasn’t just changing professions—he was following a calling. Today, as a dedicated financial advisor with Edward Jones, Steve has found his purpose: helping individuals and families create financial roadmaps that lead to confidence, security, and, yes, even dreams come true.

Steve’s approach starts with two simple—but powerful— questions:“What is my client’s end goal?” and “How do I help my client get there?”Everything else stems from those answers.

“I love investing my time and life to helping others improve theirs,” Steve says. And he means it. Working closely with his “family of clients,” Steve finds genuine joy in watching their financial success grow from the seeds of careful planning and smart decision-making.

Edward Jones has been helping clients reach their goals for over 90 years, but what sets them apart is the personalized support—both for clients and for advisors like Steve. “I believe it’s important to invest my time to understand what you’re working toward before you invest your money,” he explains. “And understanding how much risk you’re comfortable with is key to building a strategy that actually works for you.”

Whether you’re saving for a dream home, a child’s college fund, or looking ahead to retirement, Steve believes in building strategies, not just portfolios. These plans take into account short-term realities and long-term aspirations—because real life doesn’t wait for market cycles.

One of the most common misconceptions Steve sees? “People think saving money is the same as investing. It’s not,” he says. “Saving is great for emergencies, but if you’re not actively investing, you’re not growing your money—and that can actually be a risk to your future.”

EDUCATION: A SMART INVESTMENT WITH LIFELONG RETURNS

Steve is especially passionate about helping families prepare for one of the most important (and expensive) investments they’ll ever make: their children’s education.

“Most people are overwhelmed by the idea of investing. I’m here to change that.”

“A good education can open doors for a lifetime,” Steve says, “but no one wants to spend a lifetime paying off student loans.” His advice? Start early—and consider the power of a 529 plan.

A 529 education savings plan offers:

• Tax advantages – Earnings grow tax-deferred, and qualified withdrawals are tax-free.

• Flexibility – Anyone can contribute, making it a great gift option.

• Control – You maintain control of the account, no matter how life shifts.

Send us a testimonial about any of our Stroll Willowsford sponsors to billie.rose@n2co.com, or fill out the form here: bit.ly/StrollWFTestimonial. You will be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card that month.

Even better? Recent tax changes now allow up to $10,000 per year, per beneficiary, to go toward tuition at private or religious K-12 schools in addition to college costs (state rules may vary—check with a tax pro first).

YOUR FAMILY’S FUTURE, BUILT WITH CONFIDENCE

At the end of the day, Steve’s goal is simple: to make investing feel less intimidating and more empowering. “Most people are overwhelmed by the idea of investing,” he says.

“I’m here to change that.”

With Steve Ide in your corner, you’re not just gaining a financial advisor—you’re gaining a partner who’s as

committed to your family’s future as you are. Whether it’s planning for college, retirement, or that long-dreamed-of second home by the lake, Steve is ready to help make it happen—step by step, goal by goal.

Ready to stop worrying and start planning? Call Steve Ide at Edward Jones and let’s turn those “someday” dreams into today’s strategy.

Living Spaces

Starting my own business wasn’t always the plan, but over the years, the idea started to take shape. As I helped friends and family organize their spaces or found myself naturally stepping in to sort things out, I began to realize there might be something more to it. After being furloughed this year, I took it as a sign to finally give the idea a real shot. With a lot of encouragement and support from the people around me, I decided to rip off the band-aid and launch Tidy Tiff—and I’m so glad I did.

Living in the DMV area, I’ve seen firsthand how fast-paced life can get for people around here. Between work, family, and everything else on the to-do list, it’s hard to find time to create systems that help keep homes and spaces truly organized. So many people are overwhelmed, not just by clutter, but by the thought of how to even begin dealing with it. That’s where I realized I could make a difference.

I’ve always been someone who naturally gravitates toward order. For as long as I can remember, I’ve found peace and satisfaction in sorting, arranging, and knowing that everything has its place. Organization isn’t just a habit for me—it’s something I genuinely enjoy. There’s something incredibly rewarding about turning chaos into calm, and now through Tidy Tiff, I get to help others experience that same relief and clarity in their spaces.

Spies, Lies & Metro Rides

A spring break visit uncovers secret missions, slick gadgets, and Bond-style fun.

BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER VIRAJ VARAKANTAM, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY MIGHTY CLEAN CARPET CARE

THE INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM (SPY) holds the largest collection of International espionage artifacts on public display. The museum opened in 2002 in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, DC, and relocated to a new, expanding building with all new exhibitions at L’Enfant Plaza in 2019. The museum aims to provide an objective for exploring important topics such as the changing role of technology in intelligence work and the challenges of disinformation in a social media environment.

During spring break, I got a chance to visit the museum with my Dad. I love traveling on the metro, so I enjoyed the ride from Ashburn Station to L’Enfant Plaza. The weather was perfect for the short 2-minute walk from the metro station. Once we checked, we were assigned a secret identity to gather information about a secret mission happening in a different country. Each one of us was assigned a unique name, occupation, and a code word. At various stages of the tour, we were given different challenges to solve. I got to learn about different kinds of spies and their unique skills. I also enjoyed finding out how code language is used to communicate and relay messages. They also explained how bad guys are caught using the information the spies have collected. The highlight of the museum and my favorite was the “Bond in Motion” where they displayed the cars and boats used in spy movies. Each car was unique with a set of features like guns, spikes, etc. I would love to go back again with my sister so she can have a unique and memorable experience like I had. I think this is a great recommendation for a day trip from our neighborhood this summer!

Propelled by Passion

I spend my winters at Dulles South recreation and community center, swimming on the TSC Torpedoes team, and I spend my summers on the Willowsford South Waves team. I am currently a four-time record holder on the Waves thanks to my start at Propel!

Propel is the spot that inspired me to swim more. Propel Swim Academy is a swim school run by a mother-son team, Linda and Nick Curl. Propel is located in South Riding, really close to our neighborhood!

Propel’s website highlights some of the things I like best about going, and why I continue to take lessons there: “We are not a franchise swim school. We are a family-run business, and we care about your family! We are proud to have opened our first purpose-built swim school, comprised of three 90-degree water pools. While we have been involved with swimming and education for over 20 years. To say that we believe this opportunity is a gift is an understatement; we LOVE working with children and making a difference in their lives!”

"Our family knows the high cost of repairing and maintaining your vehicle. My experience gained at a major auto dealership I know to exceed the expectation of each customer that comes through the door, whether for the first time or for a return visit. Let us care for you and your car. "

My connection to Propel dates back to 2018 when they first opened. I didn’t even know how to put my face in the water! The teachers were super nice and caring. I started in Seahorse level and over time, I grew into a Narwhal very fast with the help of the teachers! Also, every time you move up a level, you get a certificate, get cheered on by your peers, and you get to ring a bell!

Other neighbors I know also love going there. So if you or anyone you know wants to learn to swim, I recommend Propel Swim Academy!
