Deborah: For the first time since March 2022, the Federal Reserve cut the mortgage rates with further rate cuts expected in 2025.
Michelle: This is good news because falling mortgage rates are bringing buyers back to the market. It also means increased demand for homes because lower rates make it easier for potential buyers to afford a home.
Deborah: Yes, and sellers can capitalize on renewed buyer activity. With lower mortgage rates, competition for homes increases with shorter times on the market for those looking to sell their homes. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reports that starting in July, homes sales reflected this shift. And this trend is expected to continue.
Michelle: Aside from lower mortgage rates, homes are starting to appreciate more slowly, easing affordability on two fronts and leading to steady home prices in most local markets.
Deborah: The means that more buyers have greater access to buying homes, driving competition to purchase homes and creating an atmosphere for sellers to win as well.
Michelle: If you’re thinking of selling within the next year, we recommend reaching out to us now. Feel free to call or text me at 703-568-7868. We are happy to meet you and help you plan your move – no obligation.
Deborah: We’re more than real estate, we're family.

WILLOWSFORD DEDICATED JUNIOR WRITER TEAM
WELCOME TO THE TEAM!
Hello! My name is AnnaKay Jordan. I go to Hovatter and have lived in Willowsford for eight and a half years. I love animals of all types and can’t wait to join Stroll!
Honoring veterans and celebrating the spirit of community this November.
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
– JOHN F. KENNEDY
Hello, Willowsford Community Residents,
As we move into November, it’s a time to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. In the spirit of John F. Kennedy’s words, this issue of Stroll Willowsford is dedicated to honoring the brave Veterans who have protected our freedoms. But as always, we strive to do more than just pay tribute— we hope to live that gratitude through our daily actions and appreciation.
This month’s special issue will feature veterans from within our community. At the same time, you’ll find everything you’ve come to expect from Stroll Willowsford: stories that enlighten, educate, or simply bring a smile to your face. We were thrilled to receive over 200 submissions of first-day-of-school pictures—our biggest challenge is not being able to feature everyone’s photo, but we truly appreciate each and every one of you who shared these moments with us. Keep them coming—we love seeing your posts and submissions!
A special thank you goes to our Stroll Willowsford sponsors. Your unwavering support allows us to continue sharing these meaningful stories and bringing our community together. Please consider supporting these local businesses when you need a product or service—they make this magazine possible.
As we celebrate Veterans Day and approach Thanksgiving, let’s all live our gratitude—honoring those who have served and cherishing the moments with our loved ones that make this season so special.
Best,
Traci

Hello neighbors and supporting businesses!
Here are some highlights from the HOA Board of Directors: We’ve spent the last few months working on our 2025 Budget which will be finalized this month. Remember, each Board member is also a resident; and, each of us strives to ensure that y(our) assessments are kept as low as possible while ensuring our community can maintain our place as the #1 HOA in Northern Virginia.
Broadly, our budget covers:
• Funding Reserves to pay for repairs and replacement so our clubhouses, pools, fitness center, playgrounds, and other amenities remain in good working order.
• Paying for Utilities, Landscaping, and Insurance coverage that protects us from large unforeseen events.
• Retaining our dedicated staff who ensures the day-to-day goes as smoothly as possible: trash/recycling gets picked up; pools, splash park, and buildings are kept clean and open for residents/clubs use; landscaping, pest control, tree removal and replacement, fence maintenance and repair; etc. They also work very hard to make sure our big events (Spring Eggstravaganza, Family Picnic & Fireworks, AutumnFest, Winter Wonderland, Culinary Classes, etc.) are enjoyable for everyone.
• Providing our staff with the proper training and tools to do their jobs efficiently and effectively.
The other major asset that sets Willowsford apart is the Conservancy. We have over 2,300 acres of meadows, forests, and ponds coupled with over 45 miles of biking and hiking trails. However, no other HOA in Northern Virginia has a working farm with a community-supported agriculture (CSA). In August, Bloomberg TV featured Willowsford as the “World’s Greatest Agrihood” (see page 72 for details!) which captured our resortstyle amenities plus our Willowsford farm-to-table experience. Our farm produces the most locally-grown organic produce one can buy and our 400-plus free-range hens lay fresh eggs daily. As part of our Budgeting process, our Strategic Plan identified several areas where we need more investment to increase our farming and land management efficiency as well as the usefulness of our Clubhouses and office spaces in order to potentially increase revenue and reduce costs.

This time of year brings in a new assortment of seasonal vegetables that are perfect for crafting a comforting and hearty meal. From rich butternut squash to sweet carrots, there’s something for everyone growing in the fields this season. This month, we reached out to your neighbors here in Willowsford to share some of their favorite, vegetable-forward recipes to enjoy this fall, and hope it will inspire you to get creative in the kitchen and enjoy the season’s harvest.

FALL IS A SPECTACULAR TIME to explore the vast network of hiking trails here in Willowsford! Hiking during this time of year not only provides a visually stunning backdrop with vibrant fall colors but also offers a more comfortable climate for getting outside — the cool air and low humidity will make your trek easy and enjoyable. Even as the leaves fall, the bare trees reveal a new perspective of the landscape and make it easier to spot elusive wildlife! Below is a trail in each of our Villages that our team recommends checking out:
SOUTHERN SECTION OF BULL RUN OVERLOOK TRAIL IN THE GREENS
While the entirety of Bull Run Overlook is beautiful any time of year, we recommend walking the southern section during the fall months starting from Cedar Pond. This beautiful wooded section of trail will offer excellent fall colors, plus you can look out for beavers in the waterways as they prepare for winter!
PINEWOODS LOOP IN THE GROVE
Pinewoods Loop is a great and easy trail for a relaxing walk. The 2 mile loop has both beautiful grassland and forests, plus it stays nice and mud-free even during rainy periods. Keep an eye out for deer and turkey during hikes, especially in the fall!
WILLOWSFORD’S TRAILS EASIER?
Download our Trail App for smartphones! The app provides maps of trails in all four Villages along with educational information about natural areas and Conservancy amenities. To download the app and get started, scan the QR code.
NORTHERN HALF OF GRANT LOOP FROM TRAILHEAD TO CAMPSITES IN THE GRANT
This section of trail is full of hickory trees that turn a beautiful bright yellow during the fall season, plus you’ll also trek through some grasslands with blooming goldenrod and tall golden grasses. Take a stop at the Grant Family Campground to play on our campground obstacle course!
FARM LOOP TRAIL IN THE GRANGE
Start your hike off seeing the last of the year’s blooms in the Wet Meadow before heading up to loop around the Farm. This 1.8 mile trail takes you along the Forest’s edge where it meets the fence surrounding the Farm. As you walk, look through the fence to see what we’re growing in our fields. If you’re lucky, you may even see our flock of 500 chickens!

I bet there is a good chance that you know my mom Dallas McLaughlin! She is this month’s Notable Neighbor because she selflessly serves others in need. Although her service to others is her superpower, what makes her even more special is her
She served 20 years in the United States Air Force as a Communications Officer. She loved being in the military and said she would have preferred to stay in a couple more years. However, during her tour in Germany, I was born and then my brother came shortly after. But she loved the time she got to spend in the Air Force.
“Dallas is genuinely one of the kindest and most caring people I know. She is always willing to lend a hand when needed with no questions asked. It’s been great to see the dynamic with our kids and have them create some great memories together. I feel very fortunate to have her not only as a neighbor but as a great friend as well!”
– RESIDENT JESSICA SHEIKH
Another thing my Mom does is volunteer at the Loudoun Homeless Services Center! She has helped a friend find a home and get a job to support her family. When she goes in, she always brings something that makes all the people smile. One time she brought in Dunkin Donuts! Everyone there is so thankful for all of her help and support.
“Dallas is the type of person who never asks if you need help, she just rolls up her sleeves and jumps in enthusiastically! She lightens the load wherever she goes - we’re so lucky to have her in our community!”
– RESIDENT BILLIE ROSE
A couple other things about my Mom, she is very social and loves to get together with friends and she is an avid reader. But her overall favorite is spending time with her family. She loves getting to know people, so if you see her around, make sure to say hi!
Happy Veterans Day to all!
Jacob Laufer, a four-year resident of the Grove, is preparing for the upcoming NYC Marathon happening this month with a mission that’s close to his heart. He’s running to raise awareness and funds for the National CMV Foundation, a cause inspired by his son, Milo, who was born with Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a condition that often goes unnoticed despite affecting many families.
Laufer’s favorite part of living in Willowsford is the sense of community, which is why he’s reaching out to his neighbors for support. “It’s a family affair,” he says. His family has been actively involved with the National CMV Foundation for four years, dedicating their time to raising money and spreading awareness for a condition they’ve personally experienced.
The National CMV Foundation is working closely with pharmaceutical companies like Moderna to close in on a
vaccine that could change lives. Every contribution helps push that goal closer to reality.
Laufer and his family spend countless hours raising awareness for CMV and are hopeful that his efforts during the marathon will encourage others to contribute to this important cause. “Every contribution, no matter the size, helps move us closer to a world where no family has to face this alone,” he says.

Life is about balance, even at an early age. Children who attend Vine & Branches Childcare Center, a preschool in Aldie, receive the perfect blend of learning, play and Christian faith, however all are welcome. “Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment and exceptional playbased education which strives to support the whole child,” says Tasha Jackson, director of operations. “We achieve this goal by providing multiple learning experiences and environments that allow for a combination of both teacherdirected and child-initiated activities.”
At Vine & Branches, the staff offers a comprehensive range of childcare and educational programs designed to cater to various developmental stages. The school provides:
• Infant Care (6 weeks12 months): The infant program focuses on providing a secure, loving atmosphere where children receive individualized care that supports their early developmental milestones.
• Toddler Program (12 months3 years): In this stage, the school staff emphasizes exploration and socialization through interactive activities that promote cognitive and emotional growth.
• Preschool (3 - 5 years): The preschool curriculum incorporates foundational academic skills with a strong emphasis on social skills, creativity, and problem-solving.
Pre-Kindergarten (4 - 5 years): Children are prepared for kindergarten with advanced literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning experiences, setting a strong foundation for future academic success.
Furthermore, the school offers additional age-appropriate activities. “We offer both dance and soccer starting in our 2s program,” shares Tasha. “The goal is for kids to not only have fun, but build social skills, work their fine and gross motor skills, improve self-confidence and instill bravery, which helps lay a strong foundation for the rest of their lives,” she explains.
“Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment and exceptional playbased education which strives to support the whole child.”
Additionally, chairperson, Joy Faircloth, says the school seamlessly integrates Teaching Strategies into the daily activities through a structured yet flexible approach. “We use its comprehensive framework to guide lesson planning, assessments, and individualization of instruction.” The benefits of this approach include enhanced learning outcomes. “By aligning our practices with proven educational strategies, we see improved developmental progress in children,” she adds.
At the school, the day-to-day activities include Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Social-Emotional Wellness, and Creative Expression. Tasha says, “Our teachers are tailoring their lessons based on the Standards of Learning to meet the needs of our program. Our children leave Vine & Branches feeling confident and ready for kindergarten.”
The school also prioritizes building strong parentteacher partnerships. They strengthen relationships through regular communication, parent involvement, and asking for parent feedback to ensure their needs are met. “We believe that active participation and involvement by parents gives children a much better experience at our school. We provide several ways that you can be involved in your child’s day. Parents are encouraged to help and participate in classroom parties and school activities,” says Tasha. Parent-teacher conferences are also scheduled up to two times a year so that parents and teachers can share information, make plans for the upcoming school year and plan educational goals for their child.
The safety of their students is also of utmost importance. To ensure a nurturing and safe environment, Vine & Branches offers stringent safety protocols. “We follow rigorous safety procedures and maintain a secure facility with supervised access,” says Joy. The staff is trained in child development and first aid to provide compassionate and knowledgeable care. Also, the school maintains a low staffto-child ratio to ensure every child receives personalized attention and support.
Each parent is given a unique code to gain access into the building as well as a unique code to check their child in and out at drop off and pick up. There are cameras throughout the building that are monitored all day. The teachers are also certified in basic first aid and CPR in addition to staff members being MAT certified. Background checks on all staff are also required.
The school is a private program which actively strives to meet the needs of

all children. Tasha says what makes their school standout is its “commitment to holistic development, integrating a rich curriculum with a caring and supportive environment that caters to the needs of each child.”
With customized age developmental programs, children are more engaged and motivated when activities are relevant and tailored to their developmental stage, leading to a more effective learning experience, she notes. The school also offers spacious classrooms that allow children to move freely and safely about. Lastly, teachers are equipped with the most up to date knowledge with professional development and training opportunities for teachers throughout the year.
The school is faith based and lessons are incorporated in everyday learning, “even something just as simple as prayer before each meal,” adds Tasha. Each week children will gather and hear the Bible story. The story will allow the children to explore the story in interactive, ageappropriate ways.

Balancing service, adventure, and family life!
ual-military couples and women officers are on the rise. Air Force veterans Roger and Kirsten Lang were part of both trends.
A graduate of the Air Force Academy, Kirsten was the first female maintenance officer in her squadron when she arrived at her first duty station in the mid-90s.
Kirsten was the first (and so far only) female in her hometown to attend a service academy. During 25 years of service, she rose to the rank of Colonel, leading up to 500 personnel and overseeing a fleet of aircraft.
Roger served as a pilot in Desert Storm, Restore Hope and other 1990s conflicts. He was prior enlisted from 1990-1994, and originally planned to play baseball for the Air Force team but then the post-Cold War era shut down the sports programs. The Chicago native graduated from Southern Illinois where he was the lacrosse team captain and fraternity president. He then went to Officer Training School followed by flight school and became a pilot in 1999. He has about 1,000 hours of combat time over the skies of
Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11. He flew in the 89 Airlift Wing to include flying Air Force Two for 10 years as well as working White House operations. In 2001, while stationed in Germany, the two met at Kirsten’s housewarming and have been together ever since.
The little Langs are Addyson, 13, and Archer, 6. Addyson plays travel softball and is a passionate equestrian who started out riding English and recently switched to Western dressage. An avid reader, she can finish lengthy books in a weekend. Archer is enjoying his second season playing baseball. He’s into Legos, Star Wars, anything with wheels, and replaying medieval battles, either on the living room carpet or with sugar packets at restaurants.
Both kids are avid skiers who’ve honed their skills on family trips to Colorado. Another family vacation spot is Sunriver, Oregon, several hours east of Cottage Grove, Kirsten’s hometown. Cottage Grove found fame as the scene of the “Faber College” parade in Animal House. Kirsten was one of the kids in the crowd, along with just about everyone else in town!
Think critically, be brave, take action, and punch through the noise of irrelevance.”
The Langs landed in the Greens in 2020, coming back to Virginia after Kirsten’s two-year tour as a commander in Washington State. Finding movers in the midst of a pandemic was a bit of a trick. Roger now flies out of Dulles for a commercial airline, while Kirsten, also retired from the Air Force, serves on the PTA board at Addyson’s school.
The family recently brought home an Australian Shepherd puppy and hopes it will get along with their friendly and vocal black and white shorthair, a rescue kitty from the Loudoun County shelter. Thanks to her many canine mannerisms, they jokingly refer to her as “a dog trapped in a cat’s body.”
The Langs are “proud to have served our country as a military family,” Kirsten said. “It wasn’t always easy but we don’t stop at “easy,” Roger said. On Veteran’s Day, we think of former military members and their families who – like ours – carried the flag forward when asked to do so under circumstances not always of their choosing.”
“Think critically, be brave, take action, and punch through the noise of irrelevance” is the Lang family motto. “On most days,” Kirsten said, “it feels like fall in our lives, with all of our activities and projects being the leaves swirling in a windstorm, only to settle into quiet beauty at the end of the day.”

THERE IS AN AMAZING new restaurant just up the road that has a wonderful staff, spectacular food, and is veteran co-owned. Can you guess what it is? You got it - Sense of Thai! Sense of Thai recently opened a second location in the South Riding Plaza, in Chantilly. (The original location is in One Loudoun.) When I went to Sense of Thai I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice. To be honest, this was some of the best fried rice I have ever had! My mom had a green curry dish that she loved and my dad had garlic chicken that smelled so good! For dessert, I had the Mango Aloha, which is a fluffy, sweet waffle piled with ice cream and fresh, juicy mango. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and was just an overall favorite of mine.
This wonderful restaurant is co-owned by three business partners, one of them being a Navy Veteran. On June 23, 2024 Sense of Thai was awarded the Northern Virginia Magazine “Best Thai Restaurant” award. They have been recognized by many other magazines and newspapers, too. With gluten-free and veggie options on their menu, there is something for everyone. I would 100% recommend this to anybody looking for a family-friendly restaurant. We had a great time there and we’ll definitely be back soon!
THE ADAM FAMILY RECENTLY WELCOMED two new furry members to their household—Goldendoodle puppies Max and Benny! After their beloved 12.5-yearold Goldendoodle, Bode, passed away from cancer in June 2024, the family wasn’t planning on getting another dog so soon. However, the universe had other plans when a friend reached out about a litter of Goldendoodles. Just two months later, Andy, Erin, and their three boys, Anderson (12), Evan (10), and Owen (8), jumped in with both feet and brought Max and Benny home to the Grant!
Max, described as the more laid-back of the two, enjoys living life on the chill side. He’s quick to learn and already knows a few basic commands. Max loves a good belly rub and is incredibly loyal, though he can be a bit stubborn and cautious at times. His least favorite thing? The leash! According to Erin, Max gives her a look of
betrayal every time the leash comes out, as if to say, “I can’t believe you would subject me to such humiliating torture.” Despite his reluctance, Max is a pretty good walker when paired with his brother, Benny.
Benny, on the other hand, is the social butterfly. He’s always curious, ready to go, and excited by any movement or sound. Where Max is calm, Benny is lively and playful. He loves being the center of attention and is always willing to work hard for treats. His energetic and friendly nature ensures he’ll be the first one at any puppy playdate. Whether it’s greeting new people or exploring new places, Benny is up for anything.
Erin says it’s been fun watching the two pups interact like brothers. They play together, steal each other’s bones, chase each other around the room, and even learn from each other. Max and Benny have different personalities, but both have excellent temperaments and are
One of the unexpected joys of having the two puppies is how much they’ve helped teach Anderson, Evan, and Owen about caring for pets. The boys are learning the responsibilities of puppy care, from feeding to training, and they’re excited to have dogs in the house again. The family’s sunroom has been taken over by the chaos of puppy potty training, and Max and Benny’s boundless energy, but Erin says that’s nothing compared to how much they’ve taken over their hearts.
“We love having dogs back in the house,” Erin shares. “Max and Benny are fun, super cute, and they’ve brought a lot of joy to our family.”

Imet Jeff 15 years ago when he had recently transitioned from a corporate job to a new adventure—farming, starting with a herd of Asian water buffalo. Jeff has a charismatic personality, and I have always loved hearing his stories about what drew him into farming and his unique experiences growing his business and making a name for himself on the local farmer’s market circuit.
As a thriving livestock farm that decided to “dabble” in hemp farming in 2019, veteran owner and founder Jeff Boogaard’s journey took a pivotal turn when his youngest daughter was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks after her 22nd birthday. After reading about the potential benefits of CBD, Jeff began adding daily doses of it to her traditional treatments. In just 90 days, her tumor had shrunk by 50%, and within six months, she was cancerfree. This remarkable outcome led Jeff and his family to make the lifechanging decision to grow the best hemp possible.
Today, Cannabreeze, located in Lovettsville, VA, produces some of the richest full-spectrum extracts on the planet. With an onsite store and online shop at cannabreezehemp.com, Jeff is passionate about sharing the goodness of CBD and looks forward to bringing the power of hemp into others’ lives. For those interested in learning more, Cannabreeze invites visitors for private tours of the farm, showcasing their commitment to quality and transparency.
I have personally had great experiences with Cannabreeze products. The full-spectrum gummies have been a mainstay for me—elevating my mood and providing amazing sleep support. My father and in-laws love the roll-on relief gel for their joints and have found it provides much-needed pain relief.
Jeff and his team are constantly working on new products to provide customers with the full benefits of hemp and CBD. I truly look forward to seeing what Cannabreeze has in store for the future.

Kicking off the season!

I play in the 80lb American Football League for DYS. To kick off the season, the league held the 1st Annual Dulles Thunder Football Season Kickoff Event on Wednesday, August 28th at Byrne’s Ridge Park. This was a way to bring all the DYS teams and families (many of whom live in Willowsford) together to celebrate all the hard work and dedication the players and coaches put in during the August training camp.
When we arrived, we met up with our teams and received our helmet decals and game jerseys. I felt excited while the team celebrated everyone getting their jerseys, one by one. All teams had 15 minute IntraSquad Scrimmages. When I was getting ready to play, we were all hyped up and when it was finally time to play, we went against the 90lb team. It was so much fun. We practiced our plays and improved a lot.
This was a way to bring all the DYS teams and families (many of whom live in Willowsford) together to celebrate all the hard work and dedication the players and coaches put in during the August training camp.
Afterward, we cheered on the other DYS teams that had scrimmages then we all had a pizza party. We played around and celebrated the beginning of the season.
I am excited for the season. I know it’s going to be a great one.

FROM THE MOMENT Shelly Fabian from Closets by Design walked through our door, I knew we were in for an exceptional experience. Her warm welcome, coupled with her confident and knowledgeable approach, immediately eased any concerns I had about the process.
From our initial consultation to the final installation, every step was smooth and accommodating. Shelly was incredibly flexible, working around our busy schedule and taking the time to ask insightful questions about how we use our closets. She meticulously measured our existing wardrobe and presented innovative ideas for organization, incorporating my request for a central mirror above a jewelry drawer with seamless precision.
Our closet, with its unique shape and varying heights, posed a challenge, but Shelly’s creativity turned it into an elegant and functional space. She addressed every change or suggestion we had, ensuring we felt heard and valued. During our follow-up meeting, Shelly unveiled a fantastic design plan, carefully explaining the rationale behind each layout decision. She even surprised us with a charming sitting area beneath the window that perfectly completed the space.
Shelly’s commitment didn’t end with the design; she provided us with samples and patiently assisted us as we deliberated over colors and wood styles. The installation process was punctual and flawless, with a professional crew that maintained a clean workspace throughout.
Our satisfaction with the final result led us to enlist Shelly’s expertise for additional projects. A year later, we had her redesign more of our closets and create a craft space. Once again, Shelly demonstrated her exceptional talent for tailoring designs to specific needs. She crafted a closet for our daughter that is adjustable and will grow with her as her wardrobe evolves. My son’s closet was designed with practicality and functionality in mind, perfectly suited to his needs.
The craft space, which I initially thought would be challenging due to the variety of items and box sizes, was
transformed by Shelly into an organized haven that accommodates everything and more.
Looking ahead, our next project is the garage, and I am confident that if anyone can find a way to make it both practical and well-organized, it will be Shelly with Closets by Design. Her expertise and dedication have made a lasting impression, and I wholeheartedly recommend her services to anyone looking to transform their spaces.
Closets by Design is located in Manassas and co-owned by Willowsford resident Matthew Hein, and is a great local company to work with. The Closets by Design main office line is 703-330-8382.
If you would like Shelly as your designer for your closet (or other space like a pantry, built-in, etc.), you can reach out to her directly at shelly.fabian@closetsbydesign.net or 703-674-9507.

Gearing up for the HHI Concours d’Elegance!
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER DOMINICK HALAVIK
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO a nationally recognized car show? If so, you know many of the vehicles can be exceptional, and can include some of the world’s rarest cars. I recently sat down with my grandfather Mike, who manages the Hilton Head Island Concours Car Club Showcase (HHI Concours) to discuss this year’s festival, which is happening this month, November 2 and 3! Here’s how our interview went.
What can attendees expect to see at this year’s HHI Concours?
This year’s show will feature the cars of Rolls-Royce, German vehicles, and a sixty years of Mustang display.
How long did it take you to plan this show?
My colleagues and I started planning a month after last year’s November show. The planning includes inviting car clubs and individual collectors, addressing logistical challenges, and beginning marketing.
What are the most valuable cars there?
The Amelia Earhart Cord 812 from 1937 and some valuable Ferrari racing
cars from the 1950s will be on the fairways and greens of the Port Royal Golf Glub.
Of all the cars there, which do you think is the coolest?
The Lamborghini Countach 5000 will be a show favorite. Its exotic design pioneered the “Italian Wedge” shape.
Approximately how many people annually attend the show and how many cars are there to see?
On average about twenty-two thousand people come to the show each year to see six hundred cars, motorcycles, boats, and planes.
how technology can change over one hundred years.
Why would a kid want to go?
Are there any planes at the Golf Club?
There is a free five-minute trolly ride from the main show fields to the Aero Expo where there will be a display of vintage and modern aircraft paired with concours vehicles.
What are the oldest and newest cars there?

AS A PROUD NEIGHBOR in Aldie, Sprout Therapeutic Riding & Education Center has long been a cherished part of the community, and its annual gala is a testament to the impact it has on the lives of so many. On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Sprout’s Gallop Gala once again brought together Willowsford residents and community supporters for an evening filled with inspiration, generosity, and heartfelt stories that left no one untouched.
Willowsford residents Megan and Brian Bobby have been attending the gala for six years. “Brian and I are big supporters of Brooke Waldron and Sprout Therapeutic,” Megan shared. “The work she does there is phenomenal and incredibly inspiring. Brian has volunteered at the barn, helping prep for the riders. This organization helps so many people, and we are so grateful to support it.”
First-time attendees Willowsford residents, Katie and Justin Smith were guests of local Sprout Gala sponsor, Tri-Zone Automation. ‘Brad and his wife, Katie, have been lifelong friends of ours. It was evident how much Sprout Therapeutic means to the community. Listening to the heartfelt stories truly gives you pause. While dressing up is enjoyable, stepping into the barn instantly reminds you of the event’s purpose. Throughout the evening, we heard inspiring stories from the children who ride at Sprout, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when the video was shared. We’re grateful to Tri-Zone Automation for their support of such a wonderful organization.’
Longtime supporter Jess Shea, another Willowsford resident, echoed the sentiment: “The work Sprout does is so wonderful. You can hear and read about the organization, but the gala really shows you. There isn’t a dry eye in the room. The stories they share about the people they help every day are miraculous. As someone who didn’t grow up around horses, what they do feels like magic. My husband and I enjoy this event every year and are proud to be supporters of Sprout.”
Lavin, Scott and Cortney Powers, and Ricky and Kelly Weismiller—paddles at the ready to contribute to such an amazing cause and event. Ricky Weismiller added, “It’s incredible to think that through the simple act of giving, we can help provide essential support to something that deeply matters to so many. This amazing event put on by the Waldrons not only benefits others but also enriches our own lives. Thank you, Sprout, for a beautiful night and for reminding us of the impact we can have when we come together!”
Sprout’s founder, Brooke Waldron, summed up the night best: “Our In The Cloud’s Gala was a testament to a mindset that we work to maintain at Sprout where “The Sky Is The Limit.” We work daily to bring hope, healing, empowerment and community to those who need it and we are incredibly grateful for the invaluable support of our Willowsford friends! Together we are rewriting realities and unbridling opportunities!!”
Willowsford residents Carey and Sean Deal were representatives of longtime sponsors Lindsay Volkswagen, and shared, “Sean and I were invited to join forces with regular attendees Tim and Mary Hong. We had other Willowsford residents at our table—Ryan and Meagan
This year’s Gala raised critical funds for Sprout Therapeutic, ensuring that its mission to empower individuals through the healing power of horses continues. Save the date for next year’s event—because once you experience the heart of Sprout, it stays with you forever.

We hope to change the way you feel about dentistry, one appointment at a time!
The Willowsford Conservancy hosted our Stroll Junior Writer team meeting at the Boat House in September. In preparation for the annual Community Bonfire and Campover, the team helped the Conservancy assemble more than 250 s’mores kits! While we worked, we also got to taste-test yellow seedless watermelon and some snacking peppers, and talked about veggies that would be available in the winter CSA shares. Our samples were delicious! In addition, we tried out Killer Tomato food truck’s pizza. They are often at the Farm Stand and Mini Farm Stand and you can grab dinner there while shopping! Everyone agreed it was a fantastic snack and dove in for more!
Afterward, we headed down to the dock and tested out some of the s’mores kits we assembled at the fire pit there. We learned about campfire safety and how to make s’mores. The chocolate melted quickly, some marshmallows burned and graham crackers snapped, but they were still the best s’mores I’ve ever had!
Here are some tips I learned to make a delicious s’more:
• Use a very large marshmallow
• I find a long roasting stick to put your marshmallow on very helpful so you don’t have to get too close to the fire
• Put your marshmallow near the fire, not in it, if you want it golden brown (some people like it burnt but I like it golden brown!)
• Use a graham cracker to scrape the marshmallow off the roasting stick.
• Use chocolate that has breakable pieces (we used Hershey’s
While we waited for our parents to pick us up, we talked with some old friends and made some new ones. We also voted on the location of a Stroll dedication placard benchbe on the lookout soon and see if you can spot it near The Lodge! This Junior Writer meeting was fantastic and very worthwhile, but the best part was learning a lot while having so much fun!
Here’s what our Junior Writers had to say about the Willowsford Farm’s produce, and Killer Tomato’s pizza:
• I loved the pizza, it had a good crust, and the watermelon was very fresh! - WESTON
• The watermelons were really sweet, and the pizza was good! - PAREEN
• I loved the flavor of the pizza! - ADAM
• The pizza is delicious, and this produce is amazing! - GABY
• I loved how good the pizza was, and the watermelon was glorious! - ZOE
• I never knew watermelon could be orange, but it tasted so good! - ANNAKAY
• I loved the watermelon, and the pizza was really really good! - EVELYN
• I loved the amount of cheese on the pizza, and I loved the watermelon! - PRESLEY
• I loved how hydrating the watermelon is, and the pizza was so tasty! - ANNA
• I loved how the special sauce tied the pizza together! - ALEX
• I loved the savory crust of the pizza. And the unique orange watermelon! - DOMINICK
Neighbors
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER SCARLETT TAYLOR
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is a fun and scary ride for most people. On my first day, I got to see what we would do for the first semester, and my teacher seemed so nice. I missed summer a ton, but I liked getting ready for a new school year. So far, my class is amazing, and I can’t wait to see us grow. I wanted to get some of the neighbors’ perspectives on how things are going for them so far in the school year. I asked Willowsford residents and students Claire Enright, Norah Fernandez, Emmy Roberts, and Chase Danzenbaker. First, I interviewed Claire Enright, who goes to Arcola Christian Preschool. She is in Pre-K, and I asked her “What are you enjoying most about school?”. She said, “I like to play hide-in-seek on the playground, make new friends, be line leader and class helper, learning to write my name and numbers, and painting.” Her preschool sounds so much fun! When I was in preschool, I loved making new
same question, and she replied “The best thing I enjoy about school is meeting new classmates and learning new things. I also love catching up with old friends.” That is so cool!
I missed summer a ton, but I liked getting ready for a new school year. So far, my class is amazing, and I can’t wait to see us grow.
Next, I interviewed Emme and she goes to Watson Mountain Middle School, and she is in 6th grade. This is what Emme said about school so far “I like that we are the 100th school in the LCPS school system, and also that we have four floors. There are so many helpful and kind people in the building. The interior is so modern and I love it, and the lockers are tiny but they are easy to access. The thing I love the most about Watson is that the teachers are so welcoming and kind, also the guidance teacher makes you feel so safe and secure. They are people that are so trustworthy and super kind. That’s why I love Watson Mountain Middle School.”

You likely heard about Willowsford’s recent appearance on Bloomberg TV’s World’s Greatest TV Show, a national program that features some of the best companies, products, and places to live. As a Willowsford resident, you are probably not surprised to see our amazing community chosen as the “World’s Greatest Agrihood,” but you still might be curious as to how it all came together. So, we wanted to give you a peak behind the scenes to see how our little locale became a big star!
It all began late last year when a TV producer from Bloomberg TV reached out to Rebecca Lyons, Willowsford Community Manager and Sophie Lambert, Willowsford Conservancy Executive Director while researching the topic of agrihoods. While they interviewed dozens of agrihood communities around the country, in the end, they chose Willowsford as their favorite. Every agrihood has a farm and lifestyle amenities like pools or fitness centers, but the producers were impressed by the large size of our community and that half of the land is preserved in perpetuity as open space as well as the presence of a chef to connect residents to the food produced on the Farm. And, most notably, that Willowsford is no longer developer-run, but is now a fully built-out community run by paid staff working for two organizations reporting to resident Board members.

Our appearance on the show also could not have happened without the participation of volunteers who served as extras for the filming. Residents of all ages joined us to bring the amenities and our programming to life.
bring the amenities and our programming to life. Those folks include Willowsford Waves swimmers, Jr. Chef Academy participants, Farm Stand customers, mountain bikers, archery club members, and more. HOA and Conservancy staff were at work in various scenes as well taking pride in their work (again and again and again – the filming often lasted for quite a while!).
Here are a few examples from behind the scenes:
exhausting and so much fun. Preparation consisted of selecting
we often have twenty-minute drives from the end of The Greens to The Grange, Staff also carefully curated a selection of mini events that would take place during filling, including a Junior Chef Academy class and Farm Stand “opening” as well as recruiting staff and many residents to serve as extras. HOA amenities that made their way into the segment include Lodge Pool, Willow Lake, Sycamore House interior and courtyard, as well as residential streets. Conservancy sites featured include the Farm and Farm Stand, the Archery Range, the obstacle course, the Bull Run trail, and the Wet Meadow. A videographer from Philadelphia came to record footage with both a handheld camera, a gimbal, and a drone.
Interviews were conducted with HOA Board President Fred Ferares, Conservancy Board President Claudette Papathanasopoulos, Farm Director Andrew Dunham, Chef Emily Worth, and resident Jill Ferares.
Our appearance on the show also could not have
1. We had to spread our staff out and be on a group call with the videographer while filming the mountain biking scene, so they time the shot perfectly and so no one bumped into anything. The videographer was walking backwards operating the drone in the rain!
2. We needed more kids for the obstacle course since it was raining and we were on a very tight timeline so we called a nearby resident who rounded up her kids and a neighbor’s kids. They all showed up on their golf carts and saved that segment.
3. One staff member had to continuously kayak around Willow Lake for an hour, he sure was tired after that.
4. We reshot the courtyard scene where food was passed out so many times, that no one wanted the food by the end.
While we at Willowsford already know we live in one of the greatest communities in the world, it was an honor to share our story and to shed light on the growing movement of Agrihoods. Thank you to all whose efforts made this possible and we hope you enjoy sharing the segment with friends and families!
