President’s Message of Welcome OFSAA Boys’ AA Basketball Championship March 5-7, 2018
On behalf of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, I welcome you to Pembroke, Ontario and the 2018 OFSAA Boys’ AA Basketball Championship. OFSAA Championships bring together student-athletes and teacher-coaches from across the province of Ontario to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. As representatives of your school and association, you embody the best of school sport. It is our hope that this Championship is an opportunity for you to showcase your skills, meet other competitors, continue to develop the camaraderie on your team and truly experience the OFSAA motto “education through sport”. I would also like to thank convenor Patrick Childerhose as well as all the members of the organizing committee from Fellowes High School who have worked tirelessly to make this an outstanding event for all. We are very appreciative of your hospitality and organizational efforts on our behalf. Thank you for your commitment to school sport. Having been involved in hosting OFSAA and participating in several Championships, I know the sense of community an OFSAA Championship can bring to your school. This will be a rewarding experience for all. To the many teacher-coaches who have dedicated their volunteer time, a very big thank-you. Your efforts ensure that athletes are well-prepared and that the Championship will be a memorable part of the student’s educational experience. Your commitment to the students in your charge is very much appreciated. Congratulations on your many successes this season. Finally, congratulations to the student-athletes. Your hard work, perseverance and commitment to your sport have paid off. Please take the time during this Championship to thank the people in your life that helped guide you to this place. Dear OFSAA participant,
As the host for this year’s OFSAA ‘AA’ Boys’ Basketball Championship, the Renfrew County District School Board is honoured to showcase the highest level of competitive secondary school basketball for families and friends. Over the course of this tournament, each participating young person will experience personal and team tests that will highlight the value of determination, creativity and perseverance in the pursuit of a personal and shared goal. Through sport, we are able to absorb the skills and tactics needed to cope with obstacles while empowering us to draw upon our new found resiliency so that we are better prepared for our next opportunity. Regardless of who wins, the lasting legacy of this tournament will be that each student will learn to dig deep and think outside the box. I thank our staff and volunteers who donated their time to make this the best championship ever and I wish the very best of luck to the many student athletes who will be participating in the tournament! OFSAA ‘AA’ Boys’ Basketball Championship
To all Participants, Coaches, Referees, Parents and Spectators:
It is with great pleasure that the OFSAA Organizing Committee and the Pembroke Basketball Community welcome you to Pembroke and surrounding area. We are honoured to host the OFSAA AA Boys’ Basketball Championship for the first time in our county. This OFSAA championship is not an endeavour of a single person or simply one school. This has been an effort by a variety of people including teachers, administrators, students, business people and community volunteers. Without their collective effort, OFSAA does not become the special event that it is. We are very fortunate in Pembroke to have a community that values volunteerism for sporting events. To the players and coaches, whether you have experienced an OFSAA championship multiple times or this is your maiden trip, please take a moment to realize the uniqueness of the event. You have spent countless hours in training with the same group of people to become the best team possible. Now you are a part of the last twenty ‘AA’ teams playing this season. As with all school sport activity, the hope is that these championships are a part of the overall development of the student-athlete. Win or lose, enjoy the opportunity to test yourselves against the best competition in the province. Every student, coach, manager, trainer, driver and fan who will be here this week has made a huge commitment to secondary school athletics, this championship tournament and the great sport of basketball. For this, we thank you. Special thanks is extended to Pat Childerhose (Convenor) and the OFSAA organizing committee for putting together an event that we know everyone is sure to enjoy.
