President’s Message of Welcome OFSAA Boys’ A Basketball Championship March 5-7, 2018
On behalf of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, I welcome you to Cornwall, Ontario and the 2018 OFSAA Boys’ A Basketball Championship. OFSAA Championships bring together student-athletes and teacher-coaches from across the province of Ontario to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. As representatives of your school and association, you embody the best of school sport. It is our hope that this Championship is an opportunity for you to showcase your skills, meet other competitors, continue to develop the camaraderie on your team and truly experience the OFSAA motto “education through sport”. I would also like to thank co-convenors Josh Greenley & Stephane St. Denis as well as all the members of the organizing committee from St. Lawrence Secondary School who have worked tirelessly to make this an outstanding event for all. We are very appreciative of your hospitality and organizational efforts on our behalf. Thank you for your commitment to school sport. Having been involved in hosting OFSAA and participating in several Championships, I know the sense of community an OFSAA Championship can bring to your school. This will be a rewarding experience for all. To the many teacher-coaches who have dedicated their volunteer time, a very big thank-you. Your efforts ensure that athletes are well-prepared and that the Championship will be a memorable part of the student’s educational experience. Participants, Coaches, Referees, Spectators, Parents and Family Members: On behalf of the Upper Canada District School Board, I would like to welcome you to the OFSAA “A” Boys basketball championship, which is being hosted by St. Lawrence Secondary School (SLSS), in the friendly Seaway City of Cornwall. SLSS has a rich and storied tradition of excellence as a basketball community and we are truly honoured to have them host this event in our District. It is also important for participants and guests to know that the 12,000 square kilometers that makes up our school district is situated on traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory. It is important for our student-athletes to understand that the athletic programs that school boards support is viewed by all of us as an important part of your learning and educational experience. This is why our staff and community volunteers dedicate their precious time to you and why school boards provide financial support to important events like OFSAA. March 2018, Dear Participants, It is with very great pleasure that we welcome senior boys’ association champions, coaches and parents to St Lawrence Secondary School for the 2018 OFSAA championship. The challenges of organizing a provincial tournament are not met single-handedly. We have been supported throughout the process by a dedicated team of volunteers made up of teachers, parents, administrators, and community members.
