Dedication

You have traveled along with us during a small part of our journey through life. You have led us around the detours in the road, and you have taken us over the smoothest way possible.

Your helping hand during our years here at "Hamp" has meant much to us, as has your companionship, your eagerness to help, and your warmth of affection.

Because you have been such a wonderful traveling companion while on this part of our journey, we take great pride in dedicating this, the 1957 L'Ormeau, to you, Mrs. Green.

"The gentle journey jars to stop. The drifting dream is done. The long goblins loom ahead; The deadly, that we thought were dead, Stand waiting, everyone."

Dear Girls,

Classes come and go, very much alike in some respects, but each with its own individuality. As each one graduates, we wonder if the next one will mean as much to us as the one that is moving on to college. In spite of their difference, we have a warm place in our hearts for each one though no class can be entirely replaced by another. And so as we say "goodbye" to the Class of 1957, we will live in hopes that 1958 will be able to take over the good things that you have accomplished and carry on in turn. We will never forget 1957, your loyalty and friendliness. May you go on to college growing in all the qualities which have made you such a fine class in the school and so give much to the colleges you will attend.

It's our Swedish girl, a huge stack of children's books under one arm and Peter Pegasus peeking impishly from under the other! Andy's love for children is evidenced in small caricatures tacked up all over school. Andy's eagerness to lend a helping hand has been a great asset to the lives of many of Hamp's students. Her warm personality and wide grin have gained for Andy many friends who will never forget her. In her four years here at Hamp, Andy has shown her versatility in sports, drama, music, art, and in her scholastic ability. We know Andy will miss Hamp, and Hamp will certainly miss Andy.

"But it takes a lot ol worryin' an' schemin' an' speechin' an' thinkin'."

Entered 1956; Chorus 4; French Club 4; Current Events 4; Green.

Marge hails from Longmeadow, Mass., and is a one year addition to Hamp. It's a familiar sight to see her red and white convertible come around the bend at 8:20 sharp (?). This "HH" Latin student is a neat and collegiate dresser from head to toe. Marge has gained many friends with her winning smile and enthusiasm. Best of luck to you at college and years to follow, Marge. We know you'll be a success.

"Hey, y'all!" could only come from the mouth of our Southern Belle from Tallahassee! Penny certainly puts Florida 'way out in the spot- light, as far as we're concerned. Although one of our sophisticated girls, Penny immediately took a great part in the busy life here at school. When she leaves, Hamp will be losing one of the greatest girls ever—our hats are off to that Tallahassee Queen—Good luck in all you do, Penny!

"But that po' l'il innocent blue eyed bird."

Entered 1955; Glee Club 3, 4; Pageant 3; Vice President Glee Club 4; Assistant Production Manager "L'Ormeau" 4; Italian Club 4; French Club 4; Cheerleader 3; Green.

Shining black hair, good-looking clothes, and a hypnotizing laugh all help to form the perfect picture of Penny. Coming to us from Pittsfield, Penny has spent her last two school years here at Hamp. The unusual usually happens to Penny—anything from a bat flying into her room, to mis-reading dates on correction papers—usually ending with the most ludicrous results . . . And she is sure to be laughing the hardest. Horses have played an important part in her life, and she hopes to go into mutual ownership of a stable with one of her classmates Upon graduation from college—It's going to be a big undertaking, but were sure Penny will live up to all expectations!

"These days are full of comings and goings."

From the minute she came to Hamp, in her Middler year, Carol became known for her dainty fingers on the piano banging out "That Lucky Old Sun." Coming from Florida, Carol carries her sun-browned body in great leaps and bounds all about the campus, with a cat-like grin to top it off. She is still willing to re-fight the Civil War if she can find a challenger. So beware! Carol's ability to make friends and still have a sense of humor will long be remembered at "Hamp." Carol has given her best to all and in return receives the best of luck from Northampton.

"I'll start out on my own, that's what I'll do."

Entered 1956; "Hampsters" 4; Glee Club 4; Co-Business Manager "L'Ormeau" 4; Cheerleader 4; White.

A riotous giggle resounds through the halls of Hathaway—out bounds "Butch," her yarn trailing behind her! She's headed for one of two places; Hathaway living room where she will display her talent at the piano, or the sleeping porch which she inhabits, (being of Eskimo ancestry). From morn 'til night she is always on the go, whether it be from classes, chasing down someone for Yearbook or to Hampsters. Whatever she does, it is completed successfully, therefore, we are sure Betty will attain all of her goals.

"Remember . .. your little piano has no stool and you've always sat on its top and played Dixie with your toes."

Whenever a play is put on, she can be found center stage doing her part with the greatest ease. Har strong alto has made her a member of the Glee Club, "Hampsters" and Music Club. But most important is her willingness to lend a helping hand to a friend.

Her pleasant smile and sunny disposition make Cinny a well liked member of the school. This versatile girl contributes a great deal to many of, Hamp's activities. She is a member of the Glee Club, Music Club, and the orchestra where she plays the clarinet. In addition, Cinny is active in Masque and Wig. Pegasus could not do without this enthusiastic girl who is their able Managing Editor. With all her abilities and interests, Cinny is certain to do well in the future. Best of luck, Cinny!

A glimpse of a long pony-tail bobbing gaily through the halls of Scott or down the soccer field, and that's our Harriet. Sparkling, full of school spirit (and plans for college!), she, aided by an unbeatable personality, will make her life very successful. Easthampton sees little of Harriet in the winter months, for almost every weekend finds "Donais" burning up the roads toward a ski resort in her father's "T-bird." "Hamp" will miss the warm-hearted, out-going Harriet and we wish her the best of luck always.

"Hey,look alive, you koolaks!"

Entered 1956; Chorus 3; Glee Club 4; Student Council Day Girl Rep. 4; French Club Co-Program chaiman 4; Italian Club President 4; Danish Gym Team 4; Green Team.

Looking for Mary Lou? "Little Miss Neatness," as she is often called, can always be found, busily running around the campus, screaming "Hey, George!" Her sagacious and understanding manner and her magnetic personality are great assets. She is known for her vivaciousness. Mary Lou has been very popular at "Hamp" and we are sure she will be the same successful person wherever she goes.

"This settin' around doin' nothing' ain't goin' get us nowhere."

MARY LOU DRAGON

Nancy entered Northampton School for Girls in September of this year, and in the short time that she has been here, she has become a definite asset to us. Her amiable personality has enabled her to make many friends and become Vice President of our senior class. Nancy has a vivaciousness about her which enters into every project she undertakes. Having much musical ability, she displays her talents in both Glee Club and Hampsters. At various times, many of us have had the pleasure of listening to Nancy's piano playing. Nancy is a girl of sterling character who will achieve a very high goal in life.

"Don't say I wasn't helpin'. . . I was thinkin' all the time."

Entered 1955; Chorus 3, 4; French Club 4; Prom Committee Middler Representative 3; Prom Committee Chairman 4; White Team.

Who is noted for her Williams sweatshirt and Williams connections, for the many phone calls, and an unbeatable selection of clothes? That's Shelley, our able Prom committee chairman. Shelley is a frank girl, an interesting conversationalist, as well as a wonderful person. Even though early in the year Shelley was hindered by a broken arm, she overcame this pbstacle and climbed to the top of the Senior class. Just as she was able to overcome her physical disability, Shelley is sure to overcome any difficulty in life ... what more is there to say?

"It's because of my brains . . , I do all my thinkin' with my own head."

SHELLEY DUBROFF

Entered 1956; Glee Club 4; Prom Committee 4; General Staff 4; Riding Club 4; Spanish Club 4; White.

Pat, otherwise known as "P," can be found almost anyplace there is noise or great hilarity. One often sees her pussy-footing around the halls of Hathaway in search of some unfortunate person to whom she can give a "surprise." Her graceful (??) performance of Madame (?) Butterfly, despite flying arms, legs, and shoes, is an unforgettable exhibition of her versatility. Pat has a more serious side and has taken an active part in the Yearbook and Prom Committee. Whether driving her blue Ford, tripping down the hockey field, or "tweaking someone's toes," Pat will not easily be forgotten at "Hemp."

"Yes ...I'm the beautiful spy queen, Olga, oo-la-la!"

Entered 1953; Masque and Wig 2; "Hansel and Gretel" 1; "Happy Journey" 2; "Star Struck" 3; "Our Town" 3; Stage Manager 4; "Man Who Came to Dinner" 4; Glee Club 3, 4; Music Club 3, 4; Class President 1; House President 2; Honor System Secretary 3; Chairman Honor Committee 4; Stage Manager Masque and Wig 4; Riding Club 2, 4; French Club 1, 2, 3, 4; Masque and Wig 2, 3, 4; Hockey 3, 4; Basketball 3, 4; Green Team.

Barrie's talent is represented on the bulletin boards of almost any room in Hamp in the form of comical, mischievous mice! Combining her ability and vivid imagination with a more serious purpose, Barrie is Co. art editor of the yearbook. She is also active in sports, and in recognition of her enthusiasm and work, she is captain of the Green Team. With a superb voice that harmonizes naturally, Barrie is a strong supporter of the Glee Club and Music Club. Barrie's sympathy and empathy make her a much valued friend to all.

"Go ahead! Beat me! Strike me! Torture me!"

GENIUS AT , WORK:

Entered 1954; Glee Club 1, 2, 4; Orchestra 2, 4; Music Club 4; French Club 1, 2; "Our Town" 2; "The Man Who Came to Dinner" 4; Masque and Wig 2, 4; Student Council Day Girl Rep. 4; Junior Middler Secretary-Treasurer 2; Green Team.

Entering Hamp in 1954, Peggy is now graduating as one of NSFG's youngest seniors. Her many versatile qualities enable Peggy to be a star member of dramatic, musical, and literary organizations. Although she is quiet, she surprises everyone with her dry sense of humor and scholastic abilities. We all wish Peg the best of luck in her future career, and know that she will succeed in anything she attempts.

"It's a very unlucky week in which to be took dead."

Entered 1952; Music Club 4, 5; Glee Club 4, 5; Spanish Club Secretary. Treasurer 4; Middler Class Vice President 4; President of Art Club 5; Vice President Riding Club 5; Student Council 4; Captain of White Team 5; Co-Editor, Art, "L'Ormeau" 5; French Club 2, 3, 4, 5; Riding Club 5; Latin Club 3; Pegasus 4, 5; Art Club 1, 2, 3, 4, 5; Music Club 4, 5; Current Events Club 1, 2, 3; Soccer Team 1.

If someday you should have time enough to pull every pony-tail in Hamp, the girl who gives the loudest protest is bound to be Robin! But, if you stay away from her "tail," Robin is one of the most lovable, ami- able girls in NSFG. Her friendship is offered to all, and no one re- fuse! it. She is always on the spot with sound advice when needed. Robin's goal for this summer is a trip to France (Lucky girl!), and we are sure that the trip will be all that she hopes for. In her five years at Hamp, Robin and NSFG have become intertwined, so a large part of each will continue to live in the other, long after they part ways.

"Such a blue-eyed an' chucklin' treasure."

ROBIN FRENCH

CAROL FRIEDMAN

Entered 1954; "The Happy Journey" 2; "Our Town" 3; Glee Club 2, 3, 4; Vice President of class 1954-55; President of class 1956-57; French club 2, 3; Latin club 2; Riding club 4; Current Events Club 4; White team.

This is a small girl of great stature, perhaps not in feet 'n' inches, but in height and depth of character. It takes niaturity and wisdom to be class president, and Friedman has both, as well as warmth, sincerity, understanding, and a great capacity for being outspoken! She has a ridiculous laugh and a wonderful smile, plus an aviaity for good books of any kind. We wish our little Carol the best of the big things in life.

"How long you been chasin' the suspect?"

Entered 1954; Glee Club 2, 3, 4; Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer of Spanish Club 4; Honor committee 4; Latin club 2; Spanish club 2, 3, 4; Soccer team 3, 4; basketball team 4; Green Team.

That bouncing bundle of joy from South Amherst is a huge asset to the spirit of the school. On the soccer team she plays a fantastic game as well as lending her boundless enthusiasm to all of her teammates. She's a loyal supporter of any basketball team, and is an excellent player as well. Goman is never found in the same place twice—one minute you find her with LaHait in Hathaway, the next she is trudging home, and the next .. well, you name it, and she'll be there at some time. What will Hamp do without this evermoving day girl?

"Algebra got nothin' but Z's an' X's an' stuff in it!"

Entered 1956; Glee Club 4; Prom Committee 4; Vice President French club, 4; Current Events 4; Danish Gym 4; White.

"Siggie" is one of our new day girls this year, and is usually found in Hathaway. She hails from Petersham, Massachusetts, but her heart is in Virginia, (notice her University of Virginia scarf.) "Sig" has a full social life, but she still manages to pull in the good marks. Among her outside activities she counts Vice President of French Club, a member of Prom Committee, and a Cheerleader. "Sig" has added much to this year's Senior Class, and we are certainly glad that she joined us. We know that she will be successful and happy wherever she goes, for she has that wonderful quality of just being herself.

"Oh, it's nice to wander if only to return home so's to git ready to leave again."

Tall and slender, Charlotte (commonly known as "Hammie"), has an hysterical laugh which has won its way into the hearts of all of us. "Harnmic" can be found in the halls of Scott during recess, consuming her raisins, (iron being a necessary factor in anyone's diet). Charlotte, headed for a bright future, has the best wishes for every- thing from all of us.

"I know you's dying to hear what me, the noble dog, is been up to."

Four years have passed with the same riotous laugh echoing from room to rpm coming from none but Lydia, who has had a busy yet happy time here. Being editor of Pegasus and President of Current Events Club, she is inevitably announcing meetings. Along with her vbice and personality, she belongs to the Glee Club and "Kitchen Octet," and has been connected with that group who are occasionally dieted and are the select few with the neatest rooms. Lydia is very outgoing and easy to know. She has "that fabulous smile which distinguishes her from the rest," and is a great pal to all who have had the privilege of knowing her. Good luck and the best of happiness to you always, Lydia.

"I've got a great idea. I'll make him jealous!"

At least Anne warns us before she comes, with her decorous cry of "Look how dainty I am!!" Because of her sense of humor, Anne has become one of our favorite people. But her seriousness has also been an asset to Hamp, as she handles efficiently her jobs as Secretary of Glee Club, and Captain of Cheerleaders. So to dainty, lightfooted Anne go all our wishes for success.

"Life will be the death of she."

ALICE HILDRETH

OADWAY,-

Entered 1955; Music Club 3; Glee Club 3, 4; Masque and Wig 4; "The Man Who Came to Dinner" 4; "Taming of the Shrew" 3; Middler Class Play 3; Pageant 3; Christmas Vespers 3; Secretary-Treasurer of Class 3, 4; "L'Ormeau" Staff 3; French Club 3; Current Events Club 4; Program Chairman Riding Club 4; Hockey Team 3, 4; White.

Although she seems (at times) quiet and reserved, Alice has a wealth of good ideas and has dramatic talents as well, judging from her performance as Harriet Stanley in the "Man Who Came to Dinner." Her sense of humor and timing are perfect. Anyone meeting her for the first time can sense her sincerity and willingness to help a friend—just Alice.

"Go away, child you're too young to comprehend."

Entered 1955; Chorus 3, 4; Orchestra 3; Spanish Club President 4; Spanish Club 3, 4; Cheerleader 3; Green.

Who but "Flip" could possibly enter a contest over the radio and w!rl?. But if you will notice, she only took advantage of one of the winnings, letting the airplane ride remain where Flip felt it should stay— at the airport! Or who but Flip could put on her formal THE NIGHT of the Williston concert, and do a very neat job of popping the zipper—causing complete chaos all over school as the members of Lee searched for a dress for Flip! This is just a small part of Phyllis, a great gal to know and a great gal to have around—Flip's strictly "Holtzman sense of humor" will cause her to be long remembered at N.S.F.G.

"They ain't gone scare nobody if nobody listens at 'em."

PHYLLIS HOLTZMAN

Entered Hamp 1955; Glee Club 4; Chorus 3; Secretary-Treasurer in Current Events Club 3, 4; Danish Gym team 4; White team.

A bouncing pony tail, and a ready smile personify our Nancy. There's never a dull moment with this girl around, and her favorite expression "That's greatsy," seems to reflect her whole outlook on life. Nancy has many talents which include her capability in art, and also, her agility on the Danish Gym team. Nancy's bubbling personality, and her policy of always looking on the bright side of life, assure her of a happy successful future.

"/ is go'n to be a runaway gal orphan for 50 years an' talk my head off to my faithful dog..."

Kathy, known to most of "Hamp" as La Hait, can usually be found within reach of FOOD. Wherever she is, Kathy has command of the situation—on the tennis court, in the class room, or behind the wheel of her "notorious" (?) car. Her popularity with both the students and the faculty, and her ability to accomplish successfully any job given her, point out a bright future for our little blonde.

"I did such a good job on them hiccups that I is worked up quite a appetite!"

KATHLEEN LA HAIT

With the coke room as headquarters, Luta can be found rattling around almost anywhere in Hathaway .. West Point scarf streaming behind her. She comes from Holyoke and has successfully completed five happy years at "Hamp." She has been active on Student Council and Yearbook. We tip our hats to our favorite redhead and wish her luck in the future.

‘. 171 flower of the live year plan."

Entered 1955; Glee Club 3, 4; Pageant 3, 4; Production Manager of "L'Ormeau" 4; French Club 3, 4; Current Events Club 4; Danish Gym Team; Green.

Louise's sweet personality and keen sense of humor are only a few of the many fine qualities that have made her so well liked at "Hemp." She has shown her school spirit as a cheerleader and has proved her thoroughness by the excellent job as production editor of the Yearbc!ok. In addition to these extracurricular activities, her scholastic ability still remains tops. A constant supply of food has also aided in making Louise a popular and congenial hostess! A combination of big brown eyes, a typically "Louise disposition," plus a strong (!) Boston accent, spell the future success of Louise's career in any field she may choose.

"Ma Bunny lice soda devotion! May booney life saver D. C.! McBontlace rover commotion, oh, brickbat Mahoney toomey."

LUTA MADISON
LOUISE MAHONY

Anyone wish a free concert? Many people of Northampton have been provided with such a concert by the one and only Patty Miller, as she busily does all her many errands on Monday. One can hardly find a girl so full of ambition, with such a sense of humor and so many ideas. Skiing and tennis are only two of many choice sports which she enjoys as a pastime. If ever a Utopia should be started in the United States, I am sure her name will be recognized as one of the instigators.

"Look me in the eye and say that."

1955;

"Sonny Boy" could well be the theme song of Greta, as she gets that enormous ear-to-ear-grin after pulling out that "special letter" from the mailbox. Generally, Greta is one of our more quiet girls, but when she starts laughing, there is no stopping her, or anyone else, for that matter, as her laugh spreads like an enjoyable epidemic. Greta's great sincerity and friendliness have made her a welcome addition to the senior class of '57.

"1 chunk you was sleepin"cause yo' eyes was closed an' you's snorin'."

A common spectacle at Hamp is to see a car "burn" around the corner, screech to a stop, and take at least ten minutes to park. There is no driver in sight. After the car is parked safely, according to the still hidden driver, the door opens, and out steps "Moosie," who has no resemblance whatsoever to a moose for she's only five feet tall (which is the reason she can't be seen while driving.) Her amusing personality has given us all many a good time. Carol's singing is another of her qualities which she clearly shows in the Glee Club, Music Club, and Hampsters. "Moosie" will be missed by Hamp and is sure to have a successful and enjoyable future.

"A innocent, sweet an' helpless new boined-a-banconed chile of unearthly beauty."

Yearbook under one arm? That's "Perk" (or Linda to some.) She can be found in the coke room almost every afternoon. By being well organized (one of her many talents) she attained the job of Co-Editor of L'Ormeau. She has a flair for facts, (especially historical) and a hidden art talent. One can always hear Linda say: I get a letter every day (and if she doesn't, well . .). Linda is one of the three who have studied here at Hamp for five years. It is an understatement to say that there is never a dull moment when Perk is around; her witty remarks make THAT impossible.

"One of me is about ALL I kin stomach."

Bubbling over with mirth, laughter, and general jovialness, Robin can be found anywhere on campus. Her sense of humor cannot be topped, as she can always be counted on to come out with a classic remark at any moment. Student Government meetings show the more serious Robin, as she reads the minutes of the last meeting. Robin is certainly the personification of the adage, "With nothing to lose and everything to gain!"

"Runnin' away is always a nice idea."

Will any of us be able to forget Donna and her cheery face, and that laugh which has shaken the walls of every building here at "Hamp"? "Donnie" has won a place in the hearts of everyone who has ever come in contact with her. Her spirit (though it is full of fun) is also put to good use in other ways—whether it be charging down the soccer field or shooting a basket from halfway down the court. The AA is Donna's semi-serious side. Her serious side shows itself in Council and in her schoolwork. Yes, Donna Robb is made of three parts: funloving; semiserious; and serious; and we love every one of them.

"It's a joke, merrie men . .. a joke . . . a capitalovitch joke!"

Linda (known to her more intimate friends as "Hughie") has been carrying her luggage to and from "Hamp" and White Plains more than her allotted vacation times. "Huggie," noted for her ability to make a piano "talk," has won a place in the hearts of all of Hamp. That isn't her only outstanding feature—she's also a member of the Honor Roll. With these qualifications we need not wish Linda luck, that goes without saying.

"I'll get out my little piano ... the one I've been keepin' goldfish in."

Entered 1955; Chorus 3; Glee Club 4; French Club 3, 4; Art Club

Ever notice that worn spot on the second floor of Hathaway? That's Just where Janet stands continually brushing her teeth, and what's more, she even buys her own toothpaste! For, in all seriousness, Saccony" is one of our favorite people and she will be missed after June third. It is conventional to wish her luck, but with personality AND the "Ipana Smile" how could she have anything but?

There's that infectious giggle again . It can belong to no one but "Schloss." She, always friendly, always ready for a chat, can usually be heard announcing that she is going to wash her hair TONIGHT. "Schloss" is bne of the most unselfish girls around .. There's no doubt about it, she has a heart of gold.

"In that case I'll help."

One of our quiet girls, Anne devotes much of her time to study, but she is far from being a "grind"—still, her studying pays off as she is quick to answer any question raised in class. "Droodling" seems to be one of her favorite pastimes, and from just a few lines comes a remarkable likeness of a horse's head, foot, leg, or (oft' times) the whole horse! With the coming of graduation, all of Ann's friends will miss her here at Northampton School for Girls.

"You kin use a bright young girl like me in your canal department haulin' water."

Entered 1956; Glee Club 4; Orchestra 4; Volleyball Team 4; White Team.

Lida's sweet smile and soft voice have added much to the Senior class. Although she came to "Hamp" for her Senior year only, in this short time she has accomplished much, both in her studies and in her extracurricular activities. She is an excellent flute player (and thus an asset to the orchestra.) A sports enthusiast, Lida was a member of the volleyball team. Her spirit and determination will take her far, we're sure!

"Force will not solve the problem, only superior brains will do the job."

"I'm going on a diet," is the familiar cry from second floor Hathaway, and believe it or not, Joy really means it. Joy, who is another one of our Pittsfield girls, is Secretary-Treasurer of the French Club and a member of the Danish Gym team. Aside from these extracurricular activities, she is a hard worker, and puts a lot of effort into everything that she does. Her willingness to help anyone and her great personality, will undoubtedly make her a success in the field that she chooses, and we all wish her the best of luck.

"My eyeballs ain't as innocent as you'd suppose."

If anyone thought she was mistaken when she thought Harriet walked by, she was not in error it was Harriet, but with at least six inches of her hair left somewhere at the hairdressers. Harriet's wonderful personality has made a great impression on a large number of schools this year from Avon to Williston, and phone calls never cease to come in for her. Harriet's voice is often heard blending melodiously with the "Hampsters" and during Glee Club concerts. Harriet is certain to be headed for a very successful life.

Part of the reason the Christmas Bazaar was so successful this year was because of Marge, the little blonde who's the head of Christian Association. Besides being "well-organized," she's musically inclined, and sings in Glee Club, Music Club and "Hampsters." Marge's warmth and wisdom have made her many friends, and her sense of humor and charm have drawn both faculty and students to her. We will all miss Marge!

"'Tis marvelous how an adversary's stupidity makes up for one's own lack of brains."

From the very day Trina came to Hamp, she captivated everyone by her keen sense of humor and contagious laugh. Her calm, amiable personality has made her friends wherever she goes, as shown by her popularity here on campus. Trina has wonderful school spirit which is brought out through her athletic interests. Blessed with unexcelled ingenuity, she is always filled with clever ideas which have won her a vital position on council as House president in her Middler year. Trina is the best prescription for anyone who needs to be cheered up or wants to have some fun.

"Now, I'll just sprinkle these blossoms around so we can run through the field barefooted and find out where the thorns are."

Calmly Judy goes from place to place here at school, attending to each detail individually and with care. An outsider would never know thavjudy, President of the Student Council, is probably burdened with problems. Yet, each one of us here at Hamp has felt the great love and sincerity Judy has put into her job. She is never too busy to lend a helping hand—each problem, each person, gets Judy's individual attention. Certainly when we remember Hamp, Judy will be one of the first girls we recall. It is girls like "our Warner" who make us proud to say that Hemp is our school!

Barb's quick wit, eternal smile, and unremitting energy have made hers a welcome face around "Hamp" this year. Whether working on CA, bounding around the campus on some errand, or doing figure exercises, she is always full of fun—but never too busy to offer a syn.'. pathetic and understanding ear to the problems of others. Barb's desire for a career in the field of art will certainly be successful, as she is not only talented, but gifted with a winning personality.

Lee, the sophisticated miss from N.Y.C. (of course) is our bouncy and versatile Social Secretary. Her fondness for much-too-large pajamas, her collection of assorted rings and plenty of personality and charm have made Lee one of the best known girls around "Hamp." Why wonder if she'll be a success After all, she's Lee isn't she?

"Listen, you needle-nosin' varmint, where's you, git yo' call to go shovin' folks aroun'?"

First Council

Absent: L. Wooden, L. Madison, E. Hirshberg.

The Student Council started the year with a bang as we introduced new girls to "Hamp" life. Council sponsored games, meetings, and the usual smoky picnic. With the honor system committee which was formed last year, we held meetings to explain the honor system to the "little sisters." This year the school handbook had to be revised. A committee for this job was chosen, and it gathered all the material into one well-organized booklet. Our biggest project was to establish a Snack Bar in Hathaway to begin to raise funds for the new gym.

All these things were done under the understanding guidance of Miss Carlson, our faculty advisor.

Second Council

Front row, left to right: B. Flynn, L. Woo. dell. K. LaHait, J. Warner, Miss Carlson, D. Robb, C. Friedman.

Standing: H. Donais, L. Madison, S. Gibson, F. Smyth, E. Bartlett, A. Damon, C. Barrington, J. Beauregard, M. Barrett, R. Reeves, J. Pease.

Absent: M. Taylor, M. Dragon.

Glee Club

"Hamp's" Glee Club seems to be better than ever this year! The new girls and the "old" girls under the direction of our one and only Mrs. Spencer have combined to make it what it is.

The first thing on the calendar for 1956-1957 was a concert at Avon Old Farms December eighth, followed by our joint concert-dance with Williston, an annual event that takes place just before Christmas. Both of these concerts were very successful and drew big crowds.

Our next big event was the Hartford Festival which was presented at Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford, Connecticut on April 28. This year we saing Arthur Honegger's King David—a symphonic psalm—and Te Deum by Mozart.

The final performance of our glee club for this year will be on June third—Commencement.

Chorus

The chorus, which is in its second year as a separate group, has sung at the Williston Christmas concert, and at Commencement. It has worked hard, and progressed very nicely under the able leadership of Miss Kehrli.

Music Club

A. Damon, A. Seeley, A. Barroll, B. Elliott, P. Block, P. Miller, M. Ewing. Absent. R. French.

Due to its late start, Music Club, directed by Mrs. Spenser, has not done much singing this year. We did sing at the annual Christmas Concert and at the Old Ladies' Home in Northampton, along with the Hampsters. Many of our members will sing in the operetta with Williston, but our biggest assignment is singing in both Baccalaureate Service and Commencement Exercises in June.

Under the capable leadership of Linda Rowe, the "Hampsters," an independent singing organization of eight senior girls, has conic through a successful season. Their first engagement was at the Williston dance in the fall. Since then they have sung at the Avon-Old-Farms dance, the Wiggin's Banquet and at the Lathrop Home in Northampton. Among the songs they have sung are "Autumn Leaves," "Penthouse Serenade," "Dem Bones" and some of the standard Christmas carols.

Orchestra

Standing: Miss Bidwell.

Front row, left to right: L. Sherk, J. Pollard, S. Crary, S. Gleason.

Second row: C. Dennett, M. Ewing, A. Brown.

Under the capable direction of Miss Mildred Bidwell, the orchestra has had many enjoyable hours. Its members have widened their knowledge of classical music considerably. Although no performances were given, its members enjoyed many afternoons just playing together.

The Art Club provides a place where any girl interested in any form of arts or crafts may show and improve her talents. The club meets as an informal group. Though their interests may vary, the members are brought together by their common interests in the arts.

Art Club

Absent: C. Dennett, A. Damon, J. Warner, T. Thun, C. Burger.

Pegasus signed a new contract this year, guaranteeing eight issues. So that more girls could be spotlighted, another policy of having four "Senior Spotlights" instead of two, was put into action. Mrs. Green, as faculty advisor, helped a great deal in making it a better all-round paper.

With the usual excitement of starting a new year, we spent most of the fall preparing for our joint production, "The Man Who Came to Dinner," with Williston Academy's Dramatic Club. With its success behind us, we presented the four one-act play competitions in March. Thus the yearOas been successful and enjoyable for all. But all the thanks go to Mrs. Pearce's never ending patience and guidance in the direction of the productions.

Christian Association

President M. TAYLOR

Secretary•Treasurer B. WATT

The Christian Association underwent an expansion program this year, with the addition of three new members, representatives of the underclassmen.

Throughout the year, speakers of different faiths were presented at Sunday evening Vespers, and during the Spring term, a course in comparative religion was conducted by Miss Whitaker. Christian Association supported various civic drives, and at Christmas time, sponsored the annual Christmas Bazaar, the proceeds of which were sent to the local Community Chest and Hungarian Relief.

New members from each class were elected to the Athletic Board this year to gain suggestions or complaints from all age levels. With the hockey field in good condition, the A.A. board scheduled many hockey and soccer games under the guidance of Miss Larsen and Miss Burgess.

During the winter, volleyball teams were scheduled to play interclass games and the basketball schedule included games with neighboring schools. An innovation was a Danish Gymnastic team.

Already, plans are in progress for an intramural softball schedule.

The field hockey team, this year, had a very successful season, losing only one game to Stonleigh Prosrect. The team's excellent coach was Miss Burgess and it was managed by "Sissy" Beadle. Although one of the hardest and toughest games was in rain, on a slippery and muddy field, it did not seem to dampen the team's spirit, for their enthusiasm drove them to a smashing victory over the confident Northampton High School team.

The "Hamp" soccer team showed excellent sportsmanship this fall. With Miss Burgess as coach the team played four games with one rained out. Although "Hamp" was defeated, the team showed exceptional spirit and determination and deserves our hearty congratulations for their efforts this year.

This year's basketball team, under the able supervision of Miss Burgess and management of Marge Taylor and "Muff""rough" "tough" Swartwood, displayed outstanding sportsmanship and school spirit. Although they were unable to conquer their opponents, their determination never ceased. The highlights of their season were the much enjoyed games against the MacDuffie and Easthampton teams.

The Danish Gym Team, newly organized this year under the expert direction of Miss Larsen, has given two performances using the balance beam, hoops, and balls. Brigitte Brake-Pederson from Smith accompanied on the piano. Thanks to the patient coaching of Miss Larsen, both exhibitions were a great success.

The Cheerleaders have been at nearly every game this year cheering on our teams. They have worked hard, learning new cheers and improving old ones. Their cheering has made the sadness of defeat less and the joy of winning greater as well as raising school spirit at games.

The French Club, under the direction of Miss Bement and the president, Jeanne Schloesser, had a successful year. The members enjoyed improving their French and learning more about French culture and history. The year was concluded by a banquet in May.

The Spanish Club, advised by Miss Ammar, has had an interesting year. The club has successfully undertaken two food sales and has seen films on Spain and Spanish Culture. The members enjoyed a spread of Spanish food and the meetings were concluded by a banquet in May.

The Italian Club, newly organized this year, is composed of girls interested in Italian literature. Under the capable supervision of the advisor, Miss Kerhli, the girls have spent many enjoyable hours learning the customs and manners of the Italian people.

The Current Events Club opened this year's program with a talk on "Modern Switzerland." Because of the crisis in Europe and the Middle East, Miss Whitaker has aided us greatly by giving a synopsis of world events each week. Miss Holmquist served as advisor of the club.

Second row: C. Burger, R. French. Standing: R. Reeves, M. Stremese, B. Elliott, E. Goldberg, C. Dewey.

The Riding Club was reorganized this year through the efforts of Carol Burger, Robin French and the Smith College stables. Although the program was not so full as the girls had hoped, "Hamp" proved that she had a great many equestriennes among her students. Under the attempted instruction of Carol, the group met every possible Monday. Each meeting was certainly a new and different experience.

The Volleyball team this year, with Betty Butcher as captain, played two very exciting games with Mary Burnham. Burnham defeated "Hamp" in the first game by a margin of one point. However, "Hamp" very successfully defeated Burnham in the second game. Northampton School is proud of its enthusiastic and sportsmanlike Volleyball team.
