Doctor's Day Off

Doctors…they’re humans, too! Ever wonder what your trusted physicians are like off-the-clock? Let’s get to know a few of our docs a bit better.

CHRISTOPHER MORRISSEY, DO, FACOS
General Surgeon | William Newton Surgery & Specialties

TODD PETERS, MD
Pediatrician | William Newton Pediatrics

TREASURE WEHNER, DO
Family Practice | Community Health Center in Cowley County

BEING A PHYSICIAN IS A HIGH-STAKES JOB. WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELIEVE STRESS?

MORRISSEY: My garage gym. I make it a priority to be out there 5-6 days per week. I also occasionally run over the lunch hour. During the day, I will take a 1-2 minute pause for box breathing if I am having a stressful day.

PETERS: I walk the dogs, go to the gym at the Winfield Recreation Commission, read books, and take at least one full week of vacation every year.

WEHNER: I like to spend time with my daughters and my grandchildren when I'm able. I usually spend time with them on the weekends as they live and work in Wichita. I would like to take up golf for exercise as my youngest daughter is an avid golfer.

TELL US ABOUT ANY SPECIAL TALENTS OR SKILLS YOU HAVE … BEYOND DOCTORING.

MORRISSEY: I feel my best skill other than medicine is being a mentor and father to my kids.

PETERS: I used to give my dogs haircuts. That was a juggling act! I also like to make espresso coffee drinks like flat whites and Americanos.

WEHNER: I have been involved in stained glass for about 20 years. I teach a class through the Winfield Arts and Humanities. I have also been working in pottery over the last 4 years or so.

IF YOU EVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET A CELEBRITY OR PUBLIC FIGURE (LIVING OR DEAD), WHO WOULD MAKE YOU TRULY STARSTRUCK?

MORRISSEY: Too many to pick just one!

PETERS: Elon Musk. He takes risks, speaks honestly, and admits his problems. He is a first-generation American immigrant success story.

WEHNER: Martha Stewart. I greatly admire her, and she seems to have great fun with many of her activities. I was impressed with how she was able to make the best of her prison sentence and come out more active. Her friendship with Snoop Dog shows she has a fun and open mind.

BE HONEST…WHAT DO YOU DO ON FRIDAY NIGHTS?

MORRISSEY: Family movie night and catch up on life.

PETERS: We go out to eat in town or watch a movie at home.

WEHNER: I am usually at home resting from the long week. I am usually catching up on my charting from work so I can have a carefree weekend. Sometimes I will go out to eat. My boyfriend, Tom, will come over and we will walk the dogs.

WHAT PROFESSION OTHER THAN YOUR OWN WOULD YOU LIKE TO ATTEMPT?

MORRISSEY: I have a personal training and nutrition coaching business. I also teach Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the new DO school in Wichita, so I stay busy. I am a YouTube contractor ;) So, I guess I would like to try house remodeling and perhaps real estate.

PETERS: A barista or coffee roaster

WEHNER: I would like to be an artist.
