Language is a medium for communication and an essential tool for dialogue and coexistence. In the context of Barcelona’s culture.

We approached the design of the language center with the idea for it to branch out to the city and create a sense of community within the area to the many cultures that surround it.

We intend it to act as a central hub of the park. We sought to generate interculturalism by extending surfaces out from the language center to the street creating Placas and public green space on multiple levels.

This is where various social functions happen within Barcelona and encourage it’s thriving fitness and gardening cultures.

OPERAVATIVE MAP PROCESS Parc de Joan Miro is situated in La Nova Esquerra de L’Eixample, in the extension west of Ciutat Vella. The analysis of the park was used as a tool to enhance the operative map. The entrances that surround the site have influences on pedestrian circulation. This led us to a process of mapping the nodes of entrances and their connection to the language center. By identifying the most approximate entrances and connections we are able to create two interacting systems. Space for pedestrian traffic and space for social functions.

The Veteran Memorial Arts Center (VMAC) is a multipurpose building and Monument of the Brazos County. It holds the Texas Aggies Go to War Museum Gallery, a masters gallery, and a community gallery.A large amount of leasing space is located on the second floor of the southern wing adjacent to administrative offices to the north as well as a multipurpose theatre, cafe, and studio space for local artists and students.

The Roof was designed using strips of paper and card board during the conceptual phase.

Strips that curve and fold to create openings for large glass facades, creating skylights and covering where needed. The roof flows out into the front entrance, encircling the outdoor courtyard and acts as an awning. In the back the roof folds down and comes to a ground connection. The atrium is a rigid rectilinear form penetrating through the organic and fluid form that creates the two “wings� of the building. The atrium protrudes out lighting up like a beacon at night.

The concrete column and beam grid anchor the building into the site. The columns explode upward connecting with beams. Attached to the columns are space trusses. These space trusses branch out creating a canopy like structure that connects to an undulating extrusion of trusses which then form the ribbon masses that compose the roof.

This project is to redefine the strip mall.

The strip malls we have now are unzoned resulting in shopping areas with a mix use of oddities that have risen out of economic opportunity. The Arts & Fashion Complex takes a look at how we can begin to zone these malls to be convenient for the consumer and the producer/supplier. By putting shops that are interrelated and correlated across common fields we can start to see that shopping will become easier and more enjoyable when customers are able to get to more than one place on foot. Shopping no longer becomes a task but an experience.
