SEALSELECTION

Seals are designed to have some interference with therope, depending onits size and type,withan interferenceofupto3mm allowableforstandard6&8 strandropes.Forcompact,nonrotatingor wireline type ropes which do not have valleys, a maximum interference of1mmis recommended astheseropesdo notallowfor the same amount of seal deflection within the collar.

SCRAPER SELECTION

Viperrecommendsthatwireropesbe physicallymeasuredpriortoordering seals and scrapers as ropes in service may varyin size. Scrapers are supplied slightlylargerthan the actual wirerope sizetoallowforropeflexing.

ROPE CLEANER SELECTION

Viper Rope Cleaners for Unitor™ enable the removal of contamination or built-upold lubricant from thewirerope priortolubrication,improving the effectiveness ofthe lubrication process viathe UnitorViperWRL.

Forcertaintypesofwireropeswherethe standard Unitor ViperRopeCleanerisnotsuitable,the Unitor Viper ‘Smooth Bore’ rope cleaner is available. The Smooth Bore Rope Cleanerwould typically beusedonthose ropeswithalargenumber of outer strands, some nonrotational ropes, ROV cables, etc.,where the valleys between the strandsareminimalanddonotreadily facilitate astandard UnitorViperRopeCleaner.
