Beautiful blossoms form colorful backdrops as our favorite feathered friends enliven the lazy, hazy days of summer with their splendid songs and pleasant personalities. With their first broods fully-fledged, Northern Cardinals and Eastern Bluebirds often reprise their mating songs and begin preparations for a second nesting. Black-capped Chickadees, on the other hand, are usually content with a single brood each summer probably due to their relatively large clutch sizes.
Our heartwarming cover piece, by highly-acclaimed artist Susan Bourdet, is one of three delightful images in her newly-released suite of favorite summertime songsters. We hope you take great pleasure in these creative and colorful works of art along with the many other artistic tributes to nature found in these pages. Enjoy!
