Student Foundation Initiatives

It has been a pleasure to be the Year 12 Student Foundation Representative this year – a committee that embraces the culture of giving back to the School community. Although COVID-19 presented further challenges to the year, we were still able to achieve some fantastic outcomes.

Girls in the Year 6 Student Foundation have continued the lost property initiative called Discover and Return (D&R). Under this program, lost property is sorted once a fortnight, with all named items returned to teachers in the Junior School or during house meetings for Middle and Senior School students. Any unnamed uniform items are brought to the Uniform Shop for re-sale to limit garment waste. The restrictions associated with COVID-19 meant that our planned initiatives were no longer possible for some time. As such, I was compelled to change my thinking and adapt to the current circumstances, which led to reconnecting with old scholars.
Girls across the Middle and Senior School wrote to some of our old scholars from the earlier years of Wilderness in the hope of offering positivity and providing them with an insight into the new world of online learning. Each letter included artwork made by the Lower Junior School girls. The letters were greatly appreciated by recipients. We received some beautiful letters back from the old scholars, who shared many fond memories about their time at Wilderness. Fortunately, the Father’s Day Cookie Drive was still possible and provided a heart-felt opportunity for the girls to present fathers and father-figures with a personalised cookie. The Drive was a success and generated support for the School Foundation, raising $693.
I would like to express my sincerest thanks and gratitude to all Student Foundation Committee members as well as Mrs Yvette Lagozzino and Mrs Jodie Escott for their help and guidance throughout my time as a leader.
