SUE SCHLABACH

SUE SCHLABACH Sue Schlabach lives and works in rural Vermont where she and her family are renovating an old brick house. She loves the act of making things, whether art, food, gardens, photographs or textiles.

She studied painting and photography in the late 1980s, but found herself unable to get started in her twenties. A galvanizing moment came at Charleston, the English country home of painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. The house and its furnishings, all painted with simplicity and urgency, inspired her to get started and stop hesitating. She picked up a paintbrush and a camera and didn’t look back. Having a daughter also pushed the making of art to the foref ront.

“Children make art without a critical f ilter,” she says, “and watching that helped me turn off the critic and get to work.”

Sue works as a Creative Director and artist at Wild Apple. She makes art with ink, paint, paper, wood, old papers and canvas.

MEGAN GALLAGHER

MEGAN GALLAGHER Megan Gallagher grew up in a Victorian house under constant renovation in the mountains of Utah. Her mother nurtured her creative endeavors, and after her death f rom Alzheimer’s Disease, remains an inspiration for Megan’s art and the namesake for her shop, Modern Lily. Megan studied interior design, art and printmaking, before establishing herself as an artist/designer living in Kansas City, Missouri. She’s an avid gardener and draws most of her inspiration f rom the plants. She sells her art and plant-related wares f rom her shop. She primarily makes digital art and acrylic paintings but she’s also passionate about watercolor, printmaking and being a maker of any kind.

She and her husband enjoy the outdoors with their dog Bowie.

Fine artist and muralist Julia Purinton divides her time between urban Washington, DC and a small rural village in Vermont. Both places provide plenty of material for her evocative landscapes and cityscapes. Working in oils, acrylics, venetian plaster and glaze, Julia’s artwork has the luminous glow and vintage romance of images by artists who influence her: William Turner, John Singer Sargent and the Brandywine River School painters. Many layers of glaze create the atmospheric moods of her landscapes. Her work is found in galleries in New England.

ANN KELLE Spring flowers, ice cream, 80s music, and her dad’s ties, are just a few of the f resh and bright inspirations for Kelle Boyd, the artist behind Ann Kelle Designs.

Her simple, sweet and slightly sassy style started in her childhood, when she carted around her sketches of her own children’s line of clothing and wedding dresses in her backpack.

As an adult, Kelle Boyd traded in her colored pencils for a career in public policy. While working for the Mayor of Nashville, she revisited her childhood dream and purchased some art supplies to relieve some of the day to day stress. Two years later, in 2005, Kelle took a leap of faith and launched her studio, Anne Kelle Designs. She now lives and works in Tennessee creating what she loves.
