C ARLOS TRIANA Director of Racquets

Carlos was born in Colombia where he grew up playing national junior tournaments and traveling abroad to several countries competing and representing his country of birth. At 19 years of age, Carlos came to the United States on a tennis scholarship, where he attended ABAC Junior College in Tifton, GA (1981-1983). After finishing college, Carlos decided to make Florida his home state, where he settled in Palm Beach. Carlos became a USPTA Elite teaching professional with more than 25 years of experience teaching and working as Head Pro and Tennis Director at several prestigious country clubs and resorts across the US. Prior to joining Williams Island, Carlos spent his summers in the New York and New England areas, where he taught tennis at clubs such as Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, CT, New Canaan Field Club, CT, Bally Mead, Cape Cod, MA, New Rochelle Tennis Club, New Rochelle, NY, and Director of Tennis at The Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, CT. Back in 2004, Carlos captured the #1 ranking in Men’s Singles Men’s Doubles in Men’s 35’s at the USPTA State Tennis Championships in Boca Raton, FL and #1 in Men’s 40’s. In 2011, Carlos was ranked #1 at the USPTA International Tennis Championships in Men’s 50’s Doubles at the famous Saddle brook Tennis Resort in Tampa, FL. In 2012, Carlos was awarded the USPTA Miami Dade County District President of the year. In 2013, Carlos ranked #1 in Men’s 50’s and #2 in Men’s Singles at the USPTA International Tennis Championships.

In 2015, Carlos went back to play in the USPTA Men’s Nationals in Fort Myers, FL where he ranked #2 in Men’s 50’s singles and 12 in Men’s 50’s doubles. Carlos is also a USPTA Pickleball certified coach since 2022 and received the USPTA Florida Professional of the Year Award In 2023.

Besides being very active in tennis competition, Carlos is also very much involved with the USPTA seminars and conventions across the country. Carlos comes to Williams Island with a wealth of knowledge in coaching Ladies’ and Men’s teams, as well as Juniors of all levels.

VINNIE BARROS Assistant Director of Racquets & Tennis, Padel, & Pickleball Professional

Vinnie Barros is an RSPA Elite Professional, Certified Director of Racquet Sports, Certified Racquet Sports Executive, and ATP Certified Coach with more than 20 years of experience in tennis, padel, and pickleball. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions at prestigious private clubs in Florida, New York, and Massachusetts, including Turnberry Isle, Sleepy Hollow Country Club, and Essex County Club. Since joining Williams Island Club in 2018, he has played a key role in expanding and enhancing the club’s racquets programs, overseeing operations, member programming, clinics, leagues, tournaments, and special events.

As a coach, Vinnie has worked with players of every level, from beginners to nationally ranked juniors, collegiate athletes, and ATP and WTA professionals. He has guided many junior players through the college recruiting process and has trained alongside top professionals, including four-time Grand Slam doubles champion Jean-Julien Rojer. A graduate of the University of Florida’s Director of Racquet Sports program, he also completed the GPTCA High Performance and CRSE Executive programs, earning a combination of certifications achieved by fewer than 100 racquets professionals worldwide.

Beyond coaching, Vinnie is an active leader in the South Florida racquets community, serving as District President for the RSPA Miami Region and as a member of the Director’s Club of America. He is dedicated to community service, charitable events, and growing the game through member-focused programming. His passion for building relationships, developing players, and creating an exceptional club experience continues to strengthen the racquets culture here at Williams Island Club.

Anastasia has worked extensively with junior and adult players of various levels, from beginners to high-performance athletes. Certified

by USPTA, IPTPA (International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association), and ITF, she excelled in junior tennis with a UTR 10 rating and received coaching from notable WTA and ATP players like Anastasia Myskina, Marat Safin, Ons Jabeur, and Apostolos Tsitsipas. In her previous role, she was an Administrative Club Manager and handled roles as High-Performance Tennis Professional, Pickleball Director, Camp Director, and Assistant Director at the High-Performance Junior Academy.

Anastasia excelled as a highly-ranked junior player before advancing to Division 1 competition at the University of New Orleans. During her college career, she dominated the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions. She achieved the Freshman of the Year award in one semester, remained undefeated in conference matches for the First Team Singles & Doubles, made it to the All-Tournament Team, and earned titles like Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player of the Year. She was also honored twice as part of the All-Conference First Team. Notably, she won the Seasonal NCAA Championship of the Southland Conference in 2021.

Before joining Williams Island, Jay was the Head Tennis Professional at the Diplomat Country Club for 15 years . A native of Chicago Illinois, he grew up playing tennis as a junior and top high school player with a state ranking in Illinois. Jay attended the College of DuPage and competed at the national college level.

Jay has more than 30 years of teaching experience world wide from beginners to advanced players and nationally ranked juniors. Tennis and teaching is very much a deep passion for Jay. He was taught at the very prestigious Vick Braden’s School of Tennis College in both California and Germany. Jay’s coaching tennis philosophy is that every student, whether a child or adult, all have unique abilities. When teaching he identifies their strengths to build and sharpen their best skill set and improving and refining the fundamentals, while keeping his lessons positive and productive. This is his great recipe for a lifelong love for the game of tennis.

Martin Carenko was born in Sweden and moved to Sydney, Australia when he was 8 years old. In 1995 he received The Sportsman of the Year award at Patrician Brothers Liverpool. At the age of 17 he had a national ranking of #7 in Austraila in the boys 18/U(Feb 1996).

In August 1998 Martin received a full scholarship to Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. He received Student/ Athlete of the year and played No.1 position on the tennis team and won the SWAC conference. In August 1999 Martin received an academic and sports scholarship to Lynn University. He took honors classes and volunteered at the Migrant Caridad Health Clinic translating for non-spanish speaking Doctors. He was a resident assistant his senior year. He graduated with a Bachelors in Biological Science in May 2002 with a GPA of 3.5.

Martin started working at The Swim & Racquet Center in August 2003. In the Spring of 2005 he was named Junior Camp Director.

In 2008 Martin started working for Tennis and Fitness Institute, Inc. with Bill Foreman. Martin is fluent in four languages.

EMILIO BOWEN Tennis & Padel Professional

Emilio Bowen grew up competing in national junior tournaments in Ecuador, where he reached No. 1 in the 16s and 18s divisions and attained a Top 300 ITF ranking. His results earned him a full tennis scholarship at an NCAA Division I university in the United States. Emilio is currently an active USPA Division I padel competitor and has over four years of experience coaching tennis and padel in Ecuador and South Florida. He works with both juniors and adults, with a coaching philosophy that emphasizes technical precision, structured progression, injury-preventing mechanics and a disciplined, competitive training environment. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Emilio is proud to be part of the Williams Island Racquets Center team and to support the growth of the club’s new padel program and overall racquet sports community.

ALBERT CHERMIT Tennis Professional

Albert was born in New York and moved to Miami at an early age. He started playing tennis at the age of six and developed a passion for becoming a professional player. He began his journey competing in USTA junior tournaments across the nation, then moved on to play ITF junior tournaments around the world before competing in Futures events as he pursued a professional tennis career.

Albert has been playing tennis for a total of 20 years and has seven years of teaching experience. He works with players of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced competitors. His coaching focuses on explaining and breaking down proper technique, refining skills, and developing strategic game plans and execution for advanced players.

In 2016, Albert began working at the Golden Isles Tennis Center, where he focused on developing young players into professional athletes and Division I college players. During that time, he also taught adults ranging from complete beginners who had never held a racket to 3.0-level players, helping them develop into strong 4.5- and 5.0-level competitors.
