The unique qualities of clay make it the preferred building material for both traditional and modern construction methods. Clay products protect against every type of weather, from the harshest to the mildest, and meet the essential requirements for a healthy workplace and living environment. With their long life expectancy and natural properties, clay products are by definition environmentally-friendly. All of these qualities combine to make clay bricks and blocks the ideal building materials for your project.

All facing bricks from Wienerberger have the internationally recognized CE label and are manufactured in accordance with BS EN 771-1. In addition, all factories operate in accordance with the quality management system ISO 9001.

Handcrafted stock facings

Wirecut facings

Historically, hand crafted bricks were created by pressing clay into sand dusted wooden moulds. Once the shape was formed each brick would be turned out and fired. The sand would then burn away in the firing process giving each brick a natural and unique texture.

The basic principle of brick making hasn’t changed to this day but with the aid of modern machinery and various mixtures of clay and sand we can create a wide range of colours with a textured crease or sanded stock finish. These bricks are generally indented, which is traditionally referred to as a frog.

These bricks are manufactured by extruding clay through a die before being cut to size by wire. This extrusion process enables us to create products with smooth, sanded or textured finishes. By using a variety of clays, sands and firing temperatures wirecut facings are available in a wide range of colours. Wirecut facings have a higher compressive strength and lower water absorption than stock moulded bricks and are normally perforated.

Or do you prefer wirecut bricks, which are smooth, straight and have a regular shape? Anything is possible with facing bricks from Wienerberger. Standard or exclusive - in every shape, size and colour.

The manufacturing process of water struck products is similar to that of stock and handcrafted bricks, the difference being - as their name suggests - water instead of sand is used to release them from their moulds. Water struck facings have a smooth faced, variably textured surface, are either solid or frogged and are available in a wide range of colours.

Bond patterns can have a dramatic effect on the final appearance of a building.

A facade finished with one of the more common bonding patterns, will enhance the style of brick chosen, while a more freeform and creative approach to brickwork will generate innovative, distinctive and memorable designs.
