SoundTracker SoundTracker shows a real-time analysis of the hearing aids by conducting a continual, instantaneous tracking of performance. SoundTracker measures the input at the hearing aid microphones, then adds the natural amplification of the ear canal and insertion gain to display the output at the eardrum. This provides a real-time display of input reaching the hearing aid, as worn on the child. SoundTracker then displays a simulation of output in relation to the in-situ threshold and predicted UCLs of the child. Output can be viewed in dB HL or dB SPL. This is all done without any equipment other than the hearing aid and the programming device.

High Definition Locator When a directional system is used, it should minimize loss of audibility for sounds originating from the sides and back of the child. Widex’ High Definition Locator is a multi-channel, fully adaptive directional system with low frequency compensation.

By focusing on speech in each individual channel while adapting to non-speech noise, the High Definition Locator is able to emphasize speech from all directions, eliminating the risk of missing important speech cues. Furthermore, Widex mimics the natural binaural directionality of normal hearing by automatically providing low frequency compensation for speech sounds.

SpeechTracker SpeechTracker displays the hearing aid performance over time by showing the average output for continuous input signals (speech, speech in noise and/or noise only). This view gives a clear indication of how much gain the hearing aid provides the wearer.

SoundSense Learn is the first technology to use real-time machine learning to offer sound preference adjustments, conveniently in the moment. Found in the EVOKE app, this feature offers a simple A/B sound preference comparison that can be used in a large auditorium, lecture, gym class, cafeteria, or activities with friends to enhance comfort or clarity in the real world. SoundSense Learn allows children and teens to save their preferences as a favorite program. Since the data generated is sent to the Widex Cloud to optimize future updates, each wearer helps improve the quality of SoundSense learn for the future.

WidexLink™ is designed specifically for the demands of hearing aids. It uses less power, is extremely fast, and ensures minimal to no delay or drop-out of sound. Pediatric Verification

Using DSL 5.0 pediatric fitting rationale Suggested protocol for on the ear verification of Widex hearing aids for or with pediatric patients: 1. Ensure the following information is properly entered into both Widex CompassTM GPS fitting software and the verification equipment:

If you have not performed RECD, ensure that predicted or average is selected. RECD values will only need to be entered into the verification software.

2. Because the ear canal length of children ages 2-12 ranges from 20-25 mm, it is important to begin by running an undeviced gain measurement to ensure proper probe tube placement:

Soft speech, 55 dB SPL ISTS signal

Average speech, 65 dB SPL ISTS signal

a. Measure the probe tube and insert it into the undeviced ear b. Present either white or pink noise at a 65 dB SPL level for 10-15 seconds c. Proper probe tube placement should look similar to the graph above. If the probe tube is not in far enough, a notch will appear between 4-6 K Hz that will drag the resonance line below the 50 dB SPL mark.

3. Once proper probe tube length is determined, insert the hearing aids and close the battery doors.

4. Set the verification system to DSL 5.0 pediatric fitting rationale if the hearing aids were programmed in Compass GPS with the Widex fitting rationale or DSL 5.0 pediatric fitting rationale. (Change to NAL-NL2 if NAL-NL2 was selected in Compass GPS fitting.)

5. Measure soft, moderate, and loud sounds by presenting speech stimuli at 55 dB, 65 dB, and 80 dB SPL, accordingly. The recommended presentation length is 10-15 seconds, depending on the selected stimuli.

6. Perform fine tuning within Compass GPS until the hearing aid measures within 5 dB or less of the DSL 5.0 target.

Pediatric simulated real ear measurements using Verifit 2

Notes

To obtain optimum results while utilizing the test box for speech mapping, Widex recommends the following protocol: Ensure the transducers selected in Verifit 2 align with what you used during your patient’s audiogram.

Ensure the birth date is entered correctly in Verifit 2. Note that if your system communicates with NOAH, you can simply enter the birth date under the patient’s file within NOAH. Ensure that DSL-5 Pediatric is selected in Verifit 2.

In CompassTM GPS, select Widex Rationale. Note that you can also select DSL-5 Pediatric, if you prefer.

You will want to keep the hearing aids connected to the software while performing test box measurements with Verifit 2.

In Compass GPS, navigate to Fine Tuning and Verification. Under Normal Adaptive Test Mode, click Activate Test Mode.

While you are in the Normal Adaptive Test Mode, the hearing aid is set to the Universal Program; gain and feature settings are maintained to eliminate variability. Use either ISTS or the Carrot Passage as your stimulus, and present at 55, 65, and 80 dB levels.

Perform your MPO tone sweep.

Exit test mode and adjust hearing aids as needed.
