By Zoustar from terrific producer Fast Talker, Zougotcha was snapped up by Chris Waller Racing / Mulcaster Bloodstock for $500,000 at the 2021 sale and has proven to be worth every penny and then some.

Bred in partnership with our great friend and client Robert Anderson, Zougotcha looked a star from day one and we could not resist retaining a share in her ownership.

She kicked off her career with a maiden win at Canterbury, beating a Zoustar colt that we also bred and sold called ZOU TIGER and while he has not quite risen to the heights of Zougotcha, he is now a stakes-winner and twice Group 1 placed in the Golden Rose and Randwick Guineas.

Zougotcha blossomed at three scoring multiple Group wins with her victory in the Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes, the jewel in the crown, and as an autumn four year-old is in career best form with a last start win in the Group 1 ATC Coolmore Classic.

A Widden Stud Inglis Easter graduate, four year-old Zoustar mare CLIMBING STAR has always shown glimmers of immense ability and turned potential into Black Type success when winning the Listed SAJC Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Group placed twice previously, the Phillip Stokes trained mare was overdue for a stakes victory and got the job done with a commanding win by nearly three lengths at her first run back from a spell.

A $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Phillip Stokes Racing Pty Ltd / Rick Connolly Bloodstock, Climbing Star runs for a syndicate that includes her breeder Qatar Bloodstock and has the overall record of two wins and four seconds from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $260,000.

“We’ve always had a big opinion of her,” said Phillip Stokes. “We set her for this race and then to the Robert Sangster (Gr.1) in three weeks. We’ve always known she had a heap of ability and she’s just gotten better with age.”

Zoustar is tracking towards his best ever season with over 160 Australian winners of more than $15 million in prizemoney highlighted by a dozen stakes-winners, led by Gr.1 winners Zougotcha and Joliestar.

Zousain also has a highly regarded colt in the Lawrie Mayfield-Smith trained ZOUNA, winning his first two starts at Doomben and Eagle Farm in March.

Raced by his breeders John and Karen McKeon, Zouna is the first winner for unraced CAMELOT mare CAMPAGNA and connections are looking towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival, hoping their colt can follow in the footsteps of his sire and grand-sire, who both placed in the Group 1 BRC JJ Atkins.
