The Distinguished Scholarship Invitational is one of the area’s most prominent scholarship competitions, awarding three $64,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships — amongst the largest annual undergraduate scholarships in Kansas.

• Submit Wichita State application materials for fall as a first-time freshman by Feb. 1, 2026 (graduated high school during the 2025-2026 academic year)
• Annual family income of $60,000 or less
Kansas residents from outside of Sedgwick County may be eligible for additional, limited on-campus housing support.
Students must have financial need as demonstrated by family income information determined from the FAFSA. Funding is limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to those who meet all requirements. If selected as a recipient, smaller previously awarded Wichita State freshmen scholarships will be replaced with the Shocker Promise. The Shocker Promise is a four-year scholarship designed to cover remaining costs associated with your tuition and fees after applying all other gift aid, including waivers, scholarships and grants.

A special award for at least ten first-generation students with financial need who compete in the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational. Awards are dispersed in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 per year. Additional scholarship opportunities may be offered to participating Passage attendees based on available funding.

The Doris and Ralph Klose Scholarship is available to high school seniors who declare a major in math or science teacher education at Wichita State. Recipients will be offered a financial aid package that includes a combination of scholarships. The Klose Scholarship covers the average cost of tuition, books and fees during junior and senior years at Wichita State, as long as eligibility is maintained.

Wichita State National Merit Scholarship Programs: $50,000
• $20,000 for the first year
• $10,000 for each of the next three years
• Good for four years with eligibility
