WELCOME LETTERS Casey Gant
WIAA Exec. Board President *Acting*
On behalf of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Executive Board, it is my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s WIAA State Championships, brought to you by Gesa Credit Union. These State Championships celebrate the dedication, teamwork, and perseverance of student participants, coaches, and school communities from across Washington state. At the heart of the WIAA is the belief that education-based athletics and activities are an extension of the classroom. These experiences teach discipline, accountability, leadership, resilience, and respect while helping students become well-rounded individuals prepared for success beyond competition. The lessons learned through participation are just as important as the outcomes, reinforcing the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
Principal Desert Hills MS
As you enjoy today’s State Championship event, we encourage you to celebrate not only the talent and accomplishments of the participants, but also the character, dedication, and mutual respect that make interscholastic activities so special. These events bring communities together and highlight the lasting, positive impact that school activities have on students and those who support them. Congratulations to all participants, and thank you to the parents, coaches, officials, volunteers, and fans whose support makes these opportunities possible. Best wishes for a memorable experience filled with great competition and sportsmanship.
Welcome to the WIAA State Championships, presented by Gesa Credit Union. The WIAA Executive Board, staff, and member schools are committed to creating meaningful experiences that help students grow, compete, and make lifelong positive memories. For those participating, this moment is the result of a great deal of hard work and determination. For those in the stands, it is a chance to share in that experience and cheer on the students who have earned their place at a State Championship.
A State Championship event takes a tremendous team to bring together. We are grateful to the coaches, athletic directors, officials, volunteers, schools, and staff who help make these events possible, as well as the families and friends who have supported these students every step of the way. Together, they create the experiences and memories that make education-based athletics and activities so meaningful. We ask everyone attending to help make today a positive experience for the students. That means cheering enthusiastically, treating others with respect, and showing good sportsmanship at all times. There may be moments when an official’s judgment is difficult to understand or a call does not go the way a spectator hoped. Those moments are part of competition, but we ask that negative public commentary be left out of the experience. Instead, keep the focus where it belongs: supporting the students who have worked hard to be here and giving them an environment they enjoy to compete in. Thank you for being part of the WIAA State Championships and for helping us celebrate Washington’s student-participants. We hope everyone leaves with positive memories of the competition, the community, and the students at the heart of it all.
Todd Stordahl
Mick Hoffman
Executive Director WIAA
The Washington Officials Association (WOA) congratulates all student-participants competing in this year’s WIAA State Championships, presented by Gesa Credit Union. Earning a place at State is a significant accomplishment, made possible through dedication, preparation, and perseverance. The WOA is proud to recognize each student for the work that brought them to this moment and encourages everyone to embrace the competition and celebrate the experience. State Championships are a highlight of the season for many officials, but the work of officiating extends far beyond these events. Throughout the year, thousands of officials give their time and expertise to contests in communities across Washington. Their commitment helps provide student-participants with opportunities to compete in an environment built on fairness, safety, respect, and good sportsmanship. Officials step onto the court, field, mat, or track because they care about the activities they serve and want to give back to the programs and communities that make education-based athletics so special. The WOA is grateful for the countless hours officials contribute throughout the year and for the important role they play in supporting students and interscholastic activities across the state.
Executive Director WOA
Interested in becoming an official? The WOA welcomes those who want to be part of the team. More information is available at www.washingtonofficials.com. The WOA wishes all student-participants, coaches, officials, families, and fans an exciting and memorable State Championship experience.
