The paintings in this new collection by Viv Richards were each made on separate days of the year, by the sea near her home on the North Cornwall coast. Her works express the tranquillity of life in the far west, and celebrate Cornwall’s vast skies, ocean views, and the sublime feeling of open space.

Viv graduated from Central St Martins with a BA in Jewellery Design, and from West of England University with a BA in Fine Art. She has exhibited at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, at Tate Modern London as part of their Pillow Talk exhibition with South London Women Artists, and at galleries across the UK.

Viv’s artworks are built up through layers using mixed media, collage, paint and an assortment of different materials such as paper pulp, felting wool, wax and straw. Accidental marks are an important part of Viv’s working practice, and she will often let the nature of her materials, and the effect of outdoor elements such as sun and rain on the surface of her work, dictate the outcome of each piece.
