Stewart Edmondson is known for his high energy paintings of the South West landscape. Working outdoors in the woods, or setting up his canvas on moors and clifftops, he lets natural forms inspire his use of colour and texture, whilst allowing the physical effects of sun, rain and wind affect the surface details of his paintings. This Solo Exhibition includes watercolour and mixed media works inspired by Cornwall’s beautiful North Coast, alongside large-scale wave paintings, and works that respond to the tranquil woodlands of Dartmoor and waters arounds the upper Dart estuary.

Stewart trained originally as a Landscape Architect before discovering painting as a way of expressing his passion for the natural world. Now a full-time artist and keen environmentalist, he begins his artworks ‘en plein air’, letting spontaneity and unpredictability direct his process, later refining and completing each image in his studio. He draws his inspiration from the unique sense of the location he is working in, exploring the idea that painting is an alchemy between artist and place.
