Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ ‘Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.’ This is the Gospel of the Lord.

First Reading

Read by Paul Chandy A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to Timothy Make the preaching of the Good News your life’s work. As for me, my life is already being poured away and the Lord will give me the crown of righteousness.

Eulogy

By Joseph, Joshua and Alexander Chandy

Before God and before Christ Jesus who is to be judge of the living and the dead, I put this duty to you, in the name of his Appearing and of his kingdom: proclaim the message and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it. Refute falsehood, correct error, call to obedience - but do all with patience and with the intention of teaching. The time is sure

to come when, far from being content with sound teaching, people will be avid for the latest novelty and collect themselves a whole series of teachers according to their own tastes; and then, instead of listening to the truth, they will turn to myths. Be careful always to choose the right course; be brave under trials; make the preaching of the Good News your life's work, in thoroughgoing service.

Communion Hymn

I, the Lord of Sea and Sky, 285

As for me, my life is already being poured away as a libation, and the time has come for me to be gone. I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the finish; I have kept the faith; all there is to come now is the crown of righteousness reserved for me, which the

Final Hymn & Final Procession Praise, my Soul, the King of Heaven, 602

Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that Day; and not only to me but to all those who have longed for his Appearing. This is the word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm Read by Ria Neelamkavil

Response: Let us go to God’s house, rejoicing I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’ And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built as a city strongly compact. It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord. For Israel’s law it is, there to praise the Lord’s name. There were set the thrones of judgement of the house of David. For the peace of Jerusalem pray: ‘Peace be to your homes! May peace reign in your walls, in your palaces, peace!’ For love of my brethren and friends I say: ‘Peace upon you!’ For love of the house of the Lord I will ask for your good.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia! Come, you whom my Father has blessed, says the Lord; take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world. Alleluia!

Gospel

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them: ‘How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage. Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied. Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them. Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God. Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted
