Affections
Affections explores the emotions from love to despair, capturing the power dynamics and raw vulnerability that we wear on our sleeves. It reflects on how intimacy can both protect and expose us, revealing the emotional weight of connection and often a reflection on how we present ourselves. Drawing inspiration from the 16th-century Renaissance, the collection features structured corsetry, voluminous sleeves, and romantic drapery. Each piece embodies historical aesthetics reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Recycled materials are reimagined into fabrics, hand-dyed with rusted metals to create organic, textured designs. The result is a story of old into new, a balance between beauty and decay, strength and fragility.

AboutTyler Mckellar-Spence believes creativity and sustainable awareness can intertwine to redefine contemporary fashion. Her design philosophy centres on the transformation of upcycling, where discarded garments and forgotten textiles can be reborn, giving new life. Drawn to found objects since childhood, Mckellar-Spence explores how deconstruction can uncover new forms of beauty and meaning. Her practice reworks vintage pieces, thrifted finds, and textile waste into modern silhouettes that merge storytelling with sustainability. Through experimental dyeing, military surplus duffle bags, and limited end-of-roll fabrics, she exposes the hidden potential within the discarded. Mckellar-Spence’s work embodies a poetic balance between preservation and reinvention.
