THE UTILITY OF LUXURY
This collection takes on Bauhaus the principle that form follows function. The colour palette exemplifies the period’s design elements, primary colours and geometric shapes. These colours are thoughtfully used to accentuate line and shape; often finished with contrasting topstitching and binding to create depth and dimension. Wool is used to embody both traditional and contemporary construction techniques, the lining pays tribute to the classic business shirt with pops of contrast in oxford striped cotton. The collection is lightened by coffee-dyed and azure blue silk organza, a stark contrast in weight, drape and transparency to the density of the wool. To marry vastly different fabrics, the silk organza features diamond pintucking and the wool features various scales of diamond quilting, creating geometric shapes within panels and the whole silhouettes. The Utility of Luxury evokes the depth of labour and love that is luxury fashion, giving visual reference to utilitarian garments with traditional tailoring undertones, highlighting wool using traditional and contemporary techniques.
