WHITE NOISE
SOPHIE GREER

White Noise is the visual exploration of contrast, context and perception. This editorial merges high fashion sensibilities with the quiet and raw beauty that lies in rural Australia. Inspiration was taken from the property ‘Birrah’, which I grew up on. The intention was to create a visual narrative that challenges the relationships between the body, the garment and the land. This editorial is the study of visual rhythm and resonance, a dialogue between the constructed world of fashion and the organic forms, drawn from the land. The location narrative of White Noise explores the interplay between refinement and ruggedness. White functions as more than just a colour. White is the tool that allows subtle correspondences between fabric and rural textures, emphasizing mimicry and reflection. White becomes the vessel for contrast, a colour of clarity and interruption. This story becomes a portrait not only of garments or landscapes, but of home, heritage, and the enduring dialogue between human creativity and the land that inspires it.

‘Birrah’ lies 60 kilometres west of Moree, a working property of broadacre farming and open horizons that has been held by my family for generations. First tended by my great-grandparents in 1941. The sweeping landscape that continues to shape both memory and imagination.

There is a certain rhythm to the landscape I grew up in. The quiet expanse of North West New South Wales slopes and plains, where time feels stretched, and the horizons are always just out of reach. ‘Birrah’, my family’s property, which I grew up on, taught me to notice texture, light and form before I had words to describe them. The lines of crops that fold into the horizon, weathered structures and skies feel endless. This editorial is a return to that space, not as a child of it, but as an observer and a creative.

Amid the stillness of the Moree plains, Stormont property reveals quiet refinement — layered gardens, sun-drenched interiors, and an effortless blend of country charm and contemporary ease. Each space tells a story of grounded beauty and considered living.

Tucked away west of Moree, the Culloden farm and its flourishing gardens tell stories of care and time. Visiting here is to step into a slower rhythm, where every flowering verandah speaks of warmth, pride, and the simple elegance of country living.
