The Dior, 2018 Spring, Summer Resort collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, was presented in the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, California. A remote location on top of a mountain. The location created an atmosphere that represents the complete essences of the collection. For Maria Grazia Chiuri the location is close to LA while it is also close to nature resembling the Lascaux motifs and details of the designs. O’Keeffe work was among the show through the subtlest and chicest pieces, She had bead- embroidered easy denim looks along ethereally pretty prairie dresses. The collection created a crossseasonal garment that can be worn at any time of the year, which breaks that gap between seasons.

The key silhouettes in the collection are the fitted dress that gradually widen, which gives it an ormarge to the new look coined by christian dior. The collection had cultural references from the handcrafted details to the location where the collection was presented as you can see in figure 1. They are references from native America as well as the Mexican culture. The collection had a ‘Pioneer-era Western vibes, prairie prettiness and Esalenappropriate new age bohemia come together in a melting pot of Californication dressing, which has exported well, far and beyond the Golden State’ (Lau, 2017). She has not only been only influenced by Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition for this collection but also Vicki Noble and the creator of the Motherpeace feminist tarot deck

Other inspirations of Chiuri is Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition she saw at the Brooklyn Museum, it had a link between femininity and feminism. Her collection somewhat resembles that through the connection with nature and women/ humans in general. Having that human touch and feel is the magic of Chiuri Dior.

Denim and Dior Drawing from Dior’s Resort 2018 collection, Denim is seen as a streetwear and associated with work class people rather than a high end couture garment that has a luxurious appeal one the runway. Denim has a quality craftsmanship because of the way Dior has designed it, seen on figure 2 it is a hallmark of luxury.
