For my design brief I want to do a denim jacket that is a mid tone blue that will be layered with distressed panels of different toned denim covering the arms and the front of the jacket. I would also like to put hidden black sparkly black paper thin panels of string.
I also plan on making a hat also covering it with mid tone denim and taking the back pockets from jeans in lighter tones and placing them on the hat starting from the brim of the hat going from one side to the other, the hat will still be showing some of it’s base material which will be a black felt type of material connecting my inspiration from the Dior Sauvage 2018 collection. I plan on using both hand stitching and a clear glue adhesive to construct my garments as I will be buying the hat and the jacket as pre-made garments and adding these elements to them produce the finished items. With these two garments in mind I want to have the style or ‘theme’ of my story to be 70’s western taking inspiration for Dior Sauvage 2018 resort collection, I don’t want it to be too heavily focused around cowboys but to have a pinch with the styling and the location it will hopefully transfer my inspiration into my story. The type of extra styling I want to go with my finished garments is chunky knits, lots of finger jewellery hopefully sheer gloves , neck scarfs and
glittering bags with chunky heels and flared denim jeans, the hat with have a draw string hanging just under the chin to add that western touch. Making sure to keep to the colour pallet I will be using different tones of blue, black and the red will come through in the lighting in my photography by using a red gel Ove the P70 light, I also want to use the soft box light for my studio photos. As for my location photography I will by taking photos of my garment along with secondary garment s and accessories on a friends cattle farm in Avenal close to where I live which is a small regional town called Nagambie 2 hours north of Melbourne. For my brand ambassordor i plan on using Kacey Musgraves i think she fits well with the Dior brand and her funky outgoing style flair fits well with the product and theme of 70’s western. As for the pop up stores i want to have them shown at entertainment venue the Whisky a go go which is placed in west hollywood or sunset Blvd a perfect place to house a Dior Pop up shop. The make- up and hair will be simple yet affective i would like a clean glossy look for the skin and big voluminous curls for the hair.
Chris Christian Dior, was born in the seaside town Granville in 1905, to a wealthy fertiliser manufacturer. Dior was one of five children, who at the age of five along with his family moved to Paris. Upon leaving school, Dior’s father bought him a small art gallery where he and a friend sold work from the likes of Pablo Picasso. With the Great Depression in 1929, and the tragic deaths of his mother and his brother, and the fall of his father’s business, Dior was forced to close his art gallery. Dior was lucky to go work for fashion designer Robert Piguet until he was called up for military service in 1940.
At the end of his service in 1942, he began working for couturier Lucien Long, where he and Pierre Balmain were the primary designers. The house of Christian Dior started on December 16, 1946 at 30 Avenue Montaigne Paris, backed by Marcel Boussac, although the house considers 1947 to be the year of conception for Dior showed his first collection. ‘ New Look’ was the style that made Dior famous, the style of new look consisted of a full skirt that came down to the calf, with a cinched waist and showcased a fuller bust which hadn’t been seen since the turn of the century. ( Vogue Australian edition)
stian Another hallmark that was taken and used within Dior’s designs was his superstitious a quality that would be increased with age. From that in each of Dior’s collections would showcase numbers particularly the number 8 which has been show cased in Dior’s jewellery line the A/W 2013 ready to wear show and also their resort shows also the use of the ‘Bar Jacket’ that has been redefined by all of Dior’s designers. ( La Maison Dior- dior.com) Since Dior’s untimely death in 1957 Dior has had a number of world famous designers who have shaped the house with the likes of Saint Laurent drafted in 1960 who was later replaced by Marc Bohan in 1989, Next to take the baton was Gianfranco Ferré the first foreign born designer to head Dior , but in 1996 Givenchy’s John Galliano took over introducing intricate beading, Bill Gaytten was then introduced as a temporary head of the house until 2012 when Raf Simons took the reins where he changed the hallmark ‘Bar Jacket’, in 2016 Dior had it’s first woman as head of design starting a new chapter for Dior was Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri bringing forward a feministic
Dior approach to the designs of Dior. (vogue Australian edition)

Maria Grazia Chiuri before becoming Dior’s first female artistic director spent her time at Valentino all of 17 years including eight of those years at the creative helm alongside long-term counterpart Pierpaolo Piccioli with the duo redefining the brands hallmark codes reaching a $1 Billion in revenue in 2015. Chiuri attended design school in Rome, when Chuiri joined the team at Fendi in 1989 as a designer she brought on Piccioli to work along side her in the accessories department. After her 10 year long stint at Fendi Chuiri joined Valentino as an accessory designer. Chuiri revamped the brand’s luxury handbag and eyewear collections Chuiri and Piccioli were selected to design the ‘Red Valentino’ diffusion line in 2003 and was later given the responsibility of the brands entire accessories range. Following the retirement of Valentino Garavani they were made co-creative directors in 2008.

azia uiri July 2016, just nine months after Raf Simons stepped down as the artistic director of Dior, Chuiri was announced to be the first history in the making female artistic director debuting her first collection for the brand at Paris Fashion week in that same year. Under the direction of Chuiri, Dior has brought back hallmark saddle bag, and also creating hallmark for the brand the slogan T-shirt quoting feminists such as historian Linda Nochlin. - ( Business of fashion.com) Chuiri’s vision shows a modern woman’s desire to dress up and too also dress down creating a complementary lifestyle that encompasses both. For Chuiri she brings forward a unique, special and different idea for woman that can be seen as both personal and political. Chuiri is changing the past patterns of Dior showing that luxury fashion isn’t just for single, stick-thin body types by creating wearable pieces for every
woman. ( love happens mag.com) Chuiri has shown reflections of the past through to her future collections by referencing different hallmark garments into a more well versed and modern story for Dior in 2021. With that in mind for Dior’s newest collection Chuiri has taken inspiration from the ‘Paletot jacket’ which was designed by Dior in his final collection for A/W 1957, but showing a softer more easier side by literally taking the stuffing out of the sculpted ‘ Bar Jacket’. ( another mag.com) Other such hallmarks Chuiri has kept central at Dior is Femininity which has been at the for front of the brand but not only has she done that but Chuiri has also brought forward a new generation of feminist fashionistas by putting a spin on to key garments such as the ‘bar Jacket’, using Dior’s suspicions and use of numbers in the 2018
sauvage resort collection.

Geor Georgia O’Keeffe known as one of the most significant artists of the 20th century renowned for her contribution to modern art.
Studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Art Students League in New York, O’Keeffe was able to learn techniques of traditional painting.
1929, was the beginnings of O’Keeffe’s trips to New Mexico , with the stark contrast of landscapes and cultures of Native American and Hispanic inspired O’Keeffe’s new direction in her art, spending the next two decades summer times living and working in New Mexico later making it her permanent residence after the death of her husband art dealer and photographer Alfred Stieglitz. ( O’Keeffe museum.com)
O’Keeffe’s style of work changed dramatically after studying the revolutionary ideas of Arthur Wesley Dow, Dow was able to offer O’Keeffe and alternative way to establish her way of thinking when it came to art.
O’Keeffe was a simply dressed woman, who proffered a minimal and modest clothing, consisting of mainly black and white showing off a modest yet modern silhouette, she was commonly seen toped with a wide brimmed hat upon her head.
For two years O’Keeffe experimented with abstraction while teaching art in West Texas.
Know to be many fashion designers muse for her most effortless style and an independent symbol for many feministic woman not just for her style but for her work in the art world despite conflicting attitudes and opinions which brought great strength to woman all over the world.
Born November 15, 1887, the second of seven children, O’Keeffe grew up in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

Silhou The Key silhouettes in the 2018 Sauvage resort collection is A-line, A-line is when the garment is fitted at the hips and gradually widening down towards the hem, which gives off the shape of a capital A. Many of silhouette’s in the resort collection feature Chiuri’s signature square necklines and A-line midi skirts. The term A-line was first introduced by none other than French Haute Couture designer Christian Dior for the 1955 spring collection which is where the style ‘New Look’ was dreamt up. The A-line silhouette at the time of the collections drop was the most sought out silhouette in Paris,France, which featured a “flared jacket worn over the top of a pleated full dress or skirt”. By Chiuri bringing the A-line silhouette into the modern world of fashion in this collection, makes a impactful statement, by using this silhouette it helps keep the past in the present and keeps the memory of Christian Dior alive by having it’s audiences reminiscing of the ‘New Look’ era.

dior and When it comes to the photographers for the Dior campaigns Maria Grazia Chuiri will use female photographers over male as it goes with Chuiri’s brand of Dior and what she stands for the unity of woman some of the woman she has used to shoot the 2020 resort campaign for Dior are six female photographers from African countries to interpret the collections “richness of savoir-faire pluralistic femininity and boundless creativity.”-(i-d.vice.com) Each of these woman brought their own unique and modern perspectives to what Dior could look like in a contemporary African context. Foe example photographer Sarah Waiswa, paid homage to the collection’s use of Kitenge fabric, exploring African identity. South African Jodi Bieber challenged her homelands prevalent beauty standards along with Namsa Leuba, Ruth Ginika Ossai, Hasnae El Ouarga and Fatima Mazmouz lent their hands to the campaign as well. ( i-d.vice.com) With this in mind my brand ambassador Kacey Musgraves also works with a female photographer to be precise her sister Kelly Christine Sutton who has been her photographer for her past two album cover art. I think that connection of woman comes through the brand itself and my ambassador making them one. A lot of the models used in the 2020 Resort collection campaign shoot are models from ethnic groups such as Africa taking that on board it helps put the story altogether, with Chuiri taking inspiration from globalism and culture paying homage to North Africa. Models such as Adesuwa Aighewi,
Ana Barbosa, Jiali Zhao and Ruth Bell helps bridge the gap between ethnicity groups and people of colour which is important to show in fashion today. (anneofcarversville.com) I think the target audience hasn’t been completely kept to just one ethnicity I think they could have used models of different age groups to key in the heritage buyers but I don’t think it would change who they’re customer is I think they would still be targeting rich well traveled people. Musgraves target audience would account for woman and men between the ages of 25-34 most of that accounts for 59.3% of musgraves audience being woman and men account to 40.7%. When looking at the types of people who are in that target market most are either in relationships and majority come from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.( adtargeting.com ) Kacey Musgraves brings a new energy to the Dior brand along with her 2.1 million instagram followers brings a new audience to the brand with her. I think Musgraves past work covering topics most of her peers wouldn’t touch such as macho culture, slut-shaming, religion queer acceptance much like Chuiri’s version of the Dior brand upholding feminist culture to speaking the truth behind culture separation , the male and female gender gap. The legacy Dior and his counterparts have built for future generations much like the music Musgraves has produced will go on to live within the cultures of every generation to come bringing together two ver different yet very similar groups music and fashion.

Chiuri was able to reproduce the Lascaux paintings in the form of silk and jacquard used for the ‘New look’ skirts and ponchos and as a print on softer version of shirtwaist dresses and as fur intarsia’s.
Chiuri was able to go straight to the source and print T-shirts with Nobel’s tarot illustrations or painting them onto the backs of leather perfectos which was great for the house brand as Dior loved the art of Tarot.
