YOU ARE DRIVING ME INTO MANIC.

You Are Driving Me Into Manic is an 8-body Transeasonal 2023 unisex collection by Maya Williams Augustincic of bluejeanorbit. The collection is inspired by 90’s grunge, human anatomy and Victorian harlots, and is influenced by 90s Harajuku culture. These timely influences have created a sense of cool nostalgia and sleaze, and is infused into unassumed silhouettes, considered prints, and high-end textures.
This collection has a strong focus on sustainable elements, all while exploring reconstructed ideas, deconstructed features, and refined details. A range of recycled fabric prints, deadstock materials, and upcycled fabrics have been considered, as sustainability is a key feature throughout this collection. Community is another important value that had been highlighted during the planning and development process, and this has been achieved by working with local printing company Next State.
Next State Print is local fabric printer, located in Thornbury, who offer a boutique range of recycled cottons and polyesters, which have been evidenced within this collection. Next State is
accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia, and they strive for sustainability as a brand value (Next State 2022). They achieve this by offering print-on-demand production, increasing recycled yarns made from PET, offering organic yarns, and ensuring a safe work environment within the international suppliers that they work closely with (Next State 2022).
Nostalgia and industry trends have shaped the research development of You’re Driving Me Into Manic 2023, through the likes of notable collections, including; Blumarine Resort 23, Y/ Project SS23, Vivienne Westwood SS22, and Dsquared2 Resort 23 (Vogue 2022). Human anatomy and Victorian harlots have also shaped the development process of this collection. Anatomical boning, sleazy cut-outs and layering are some elements that have been derived from these themes (Recollections 22). The use of lace and other tactile textures have also been transformed into a modern-grunge take on Victorian frills and fashion, with the use of deconstruction and metal applique, which has been created with off-cuts and thrifted hardwares.

1990s grunge and Harajuku colour palettes have been considered when creating the perfect mood for 'You Are Driving Me Into Manic' 2023.
The dark, moody grunge tones have been infused and contrasted against the pops of playful colour derived from Harajuku 90s trends. Current trends from the likes of Ambush and Gypsy Sport have also been considered, as seen in Vogue Runway (see below).
The overall mood created from this transeasonal colour palette is angst and playfulness.
