Concept Statement Nature is the basis of all living things. It helps sustain all life and is even the foundation of the textiles industry. It has been the source of inspiration for many artists throughout history. By researching a variety of well known artists, I was able to examine the eternal beauty of nature. The personification of nature has been seen throughout various historical mythologies around the globe, they all show nature as a ‘she’. The romantic elegance of nature is translated into a maternal, loving, nurturing figure. From this, the decision was made to explore hyper feminne silhouettes and fabrications. Using sheers, satins, bright colours, bold patterns, and strong silhouettes, I brought this idea into a contemporary time. This collection encourages people to take a moment to stop and enjoy the world around them. For the garments I decided to focus on the a-line silhouette, and all the different ways I could create it. Dress 1 consists of a sky blue duchess satin, calf length, a-line dress, that features a rounded strapless neckline and centre back inverted pleat. On the underside there is a contrasting lining print of monochromatic blues. As an alternative, Dress 2 features the same shape however it has been made in a Sheer Stretch silk/nylon in the colour Hot Pink. Dress 2 has been paired with a straight tabata top that has two long lined panels at the front and back that feature a large box pleat running through the centre. To finish off Top 1, are three straps that hold the pieces together with press studs. Dress 3 is an asymmetrical monochromatic bodice, with a sheer flared skirt. The bodice contains a rounded neckline with only one sleeve, as well as princess panel details throughout. The accompanying Jacket 1 explores the same forest green colour as Dress 3. It is a tailored asymmetrical jacket, with a half back lining and features a completely box pleated back panel. All these looks together explore the feminine qualities of nature through the use of silhouette and combining it with a bright colour selection. Bringing to life ‘The Essence’ of nature
