CS for this piece came from a fascination with 60’s athletic apparel, and through research and development, I discovered that the fabric used primarily in producing there garments was nylon taffeta.

When developing design and silhouette it was decided to incorporate elements from suiting and tailoring, gaining inspiration from Thome Browne, not so much his works specifically but the technique of applying suiting elements and tailoring to other garment outcomes for example - day wear or evening wear. But for this piece, small elements of tailoring will be combined with athletic fashion garments to in a way that has not be achieved before.

The technical elements of the garment have been inspired buy tents and camping equipment specifically construction techniques, for example Seams, tucks, shapes and fabrics.

The use of nylon fabric on tents and other camping equipment is to ensure that everything is water tight and that explains why its so prevalent within the athletic apparel world.

The piece will be an amalgamation of tailoring elements and 60s athletic equipment.

The androgynous aspect of the work is achieved sneakily through the historic appropriation of strictly menswear garment elements portrayed in and women’s wear piece

Pushing societal norms has been the job of creative industries for along as they’ve existed and so I believe that creating an androgynous aspect to my work is imperative.
