DIOR
x MADONNA
MADONNA CICCONE x DIOR and the madonna whore complex Madonna holds a dynamic aesthetic legacy through constant reinvention and evolution. From the grungy, New York punk beginnings of denim, and rosary beads, to the roaring feminist of today.
Like Dior, Madonna has taken many forms, while always looking toward the future. From the very beginnings of her career in 1982, Madonna struck a nerve in the music and fashion spheres. Never one to shy away from criticism, Madonna has marched to the beat of her on drum for decades, especially when told she shouldn’t

MONSIEUR DIOR the legacy we live and breathe
When Monsieur Dior debuted the revolutionary ‘New Look’ collection in 1947, it was met with an air of shock and criticism. In a post-war world of austerity, the twenty yards of fabric in each silhouette shocked the fashion community.

MADONNA FEMINSIM a different approach
Over her forty years in industry, Madonna has continually championed the notion of women owning their sexuality, without existing through the male gaze. Ciccone’s focus has now expanded to dispel the myth that ‘older’ women have passed their prime, and to convey mature women as independent and powerful, a value Maria Grazia shares and incorporates into the new fabric of Dior. The 2018 Billboard Music Awards was a turning point in the career of the bad feminist.
After decades of misogyny and opposition in the industry, Madonna cemented her feminist legacy with the now infamous speech: ‘‘Camille Paglia the famous feminist writer said that I set women back decades by objectifying myself sexually. Oh, I thought… so if you’re a feminist, you don’t have sexuality, you deny it… so I said… f*ck it… I’m a different kind of my feminist, I’m a bad feminist’’. For advancing women’s rights, Dior stands with Madonna.
