design statement
Jardin Fleuri explores notions of escapism in the modern day landscape, with the ever growing desire to return to nature, driven by nostalgia and yearning.
Inspired by the Victorian era escapism developed during the industrial revolution, Jardin Fleuri draws parallels between modern day technological advancements and the industrial revolution, reflecting on how society longs for simplicity and a reconnection to nature during novel times. This idea is explored through floral silhouettes and prints representing the connection to nature society longs for.
Jardin Fleuri compares todays technological advancements to societies desire to reconnect with nature through rigid and structured corsets paired with soft and sheer draped skirts.
The Hero look of Jardin Fleuri Florescence features an underbust lace up corset made from a custom printed and impressionism inspired floral voile, attached to a three layered skirt accented with the couching technique designed in reference to the art nouveau and stained glass linework to mimic flower petals. The corset is decorated with organic shaped appliques, continuing the delicate linework throughout the skirt. A sleeveless bodysuit featuring a criss-crossed bodice is the last piece of Florescence.
The second look, Reveries, is a piece that represents nostalgia and childhood whimsy through the corseted skirt that feautures dangling spirals, the ruffled bloomers worn underneath, and the bodice featuring a hand tacked and draped fabric that wraps around the body and cascades down the arm and leg.
Lastly, Flanaries depicts girlhood and femininity through the full bodice corset attached to a mini bubble skirt and gathered overskirt, made from a custom printed plaid.
Jardin Fleuri is a collection that comments on modern day escapism driven by nostalgia, yearning, and femininity by referencing the Victorian Era and transposing it to present trends and fashion.
