Hayley Smyth is a Melbournebased fashion designer with a background as a garment technician specialising in denim. Her practice is rooted in construction and artisanal craftsmanship as she frequently experiments with innovative denim textures paired with varying silhouettes and an emphasis on line and direction.

Reinterpreting denim as a tactile and conceptual medium, her work is inspired by the postmodernism movement as it explores the intersection between dystopian,

maximalist and posthuman design ideas.

Hayley uses her designs as a vessel to convey her design philosophy, paired with a tactile approach to craftsmanship and material innovation.

Sustainability is a central pillar of her design ethos, not only in practice but in perspective as she encourages longevity through intentional design and make while advocating for the use of sustainable materials, ethical manufacturing and local sourcing practices.

& CONCEPT STATEMENT

“Redirection” embodies the act of change itself. This collection represents an evolution from past ideals into a newly defined direction. Built from luxe indigo denim and refined through sharp, intentional design lines, the collection embraces transformation with a sleek, contemporary aesthetic.

Contrasting copper topstitching traces each garment, highlighting line, movement, and emphasises the deliberate shift toward something bolder and more self-assured.

Balancing subtle sensuality with a clean, elevated confidence, “Redirection” focuses on strong

silhouettes that celebrate shape and form. The bold interplay between line and form conveys the courage required to redirect oneself, while the denim craftsmanship embraces quality tailoring through an artisanal lens. What began as an exploration of unraveling has reformed into a study of reconstruction, choosing not to be defined by a previous narrative, but instead by the strength found in redirection. Through its considered use of denim, sophisticated detailing, and modern silhouettes, Reformation stands as a declaration of renewal: a commitment to embracing change, refining identity, and moving forward with intention.
