CONCEPT

‘Caloola Road’ is a trans-seasonal collection involving both menswear and womenswear pieces that merge structured tailoring with experimental fabrication. Centred around the juxtaposition of fine wool textiles and a distinctive grommet-based texture, the collection explores the intersection of nostalgia and materiality. The fabrication itself was developed from the conceptual framework of revisiting core childhood figures and memories and examining how these recollections manifest through associations of colour, shape, and tactile sensation.

This notion is expressed across the range through intricate grommet detailing and embellishment techniques that echo themes of recollection and play, contrasted against the refined structure of tailored wool garments. Through the considered use of trend forecasting and the integration of upcoming seasonal colour palettes, Caloola Road bridges contemporary fashion language with deeply personal storytelling. The result is a body of work that feels both grounded and expressive, a study in how memory can be materialised through texture, tone, and form.

ELISE SMITH

Elise Smith is an Australian-based emerging fashion designer. Her work primarily concentrating on tailoring and precise construction. Whilst completing her studies at The Whitehouse Institute of Design in 2025, she worked alongside the iconic Australian brand Driza-Bone to collaborate for the student design competition to reimagine the brands core coat at Brisbane Fashion Festival, securing first place and cementing herself as an up-and-coming designer to watch. Her designs regularly utilise natural fibres and deadstock to maintain sustainability across her work. Focusing on juxtaposition throughout her pieces, contrasting colour, material and silhouette to continue producing innovative design.
