The institution of sport in today’s world often overthrows the sport itself. For the collection titled Street/Sport/Sex/Satire the focus is entirely on the image of athletes and sport in today’s modern world. The garments feature fabrics for outdoor and exercise purposes lending itself to connotations of athleisure; being one of the few forms of fashion people are quite in tune with in the current state of events. While the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are currently wrapping up in Japan because this event cannot be missed.

As the world continues to strive for equality in all aspects, the underlying issues in the institution of sport were showcased so publicly through the games this year with Australian swimmer Maddie Groves pulling out of the Olympic trial due to the “misogynistic perverts” in “a culture that relies on people ignoring bad behaviour to thrive.” The institution is also being slammed for continuing to give out free condoms to the athlete’s village, assuring the public these will be given to the athletes on their departure from the event to assure Covid-19 rules apply.

This was expressed as Tokyo reissued its’ Covid-19 state of emergency and 83% of people living in Japan in May did not want Tokyo to host the Olympics games; with a news article showing protest signs stating “Olympics Kill the Poor.”

The garments in this collection feature the athleisure look through the use of sporty, high performance fabrics being used alongside many pieces of hardware. The collection takes its main inspiration from the Tokyo Street style of Harajuku, which is defined as a mix of all well-known street styles in Japan. This allows the wearer to make the clothes whatever they want to be, and are gender neutral in shape and style. While also lending to Australia through the use of the Australian international colours for sport– green and gold.

The garments are made long and oversized to cut body image from being a part of the look, breaking down a barrier in sport as well as the wider world; while elongating the wearers body so that the garment will appear more elegant and flattering.

The hero look of the collection features an oversized jacket with one raglan and one set in sleeve with a rever collar and off-centre front closure. An extra kimono style flap allows the jacket to become more symmetrical with the set-in sleeve covered, adding another raglan like line across the jacket.

The yellow inset in the jacket draws reference back to the green and gold and the clips along these sleeves allow for the over extending sleeves to be clipped up out of the way to create a shorter sleeve.

The wide leg pants, are a straight cut with a slight drop crotch. These sit along the natural waist but give the illusion of being low waisted from an inset panel and belt loops. The pant also features slits on the side seams below the knee, and knee vents in green mesh.
