Pre-pandemic times, coming back to the Philippines every December has always been the plan to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. However, due to the current situation, it has become far from reality. Being away for almost a year, thinking of ways how to bring Manila to Melbourne, thus, the ‘Manille’ capsule collection.

The focus of the collection is to pay homage to the traditional Filipiniana, specifically the terno highlighting the butterfly sleeves, making it wearable and adapting it to modern times. We have seen numerous iterations of the dress from formal events to pageant shows, however, this collection aims to direct the Filipiniana to a different light.

Evolving from the Baro’t Saya, a traditional Filipino clothing worn by women, the terno is also known as the Maria Clara, based from the leading character of the Philippines’ national hero’s famous novels. The dress is a metaphor for her characteristics, s y m b o l i s i n g : modesty, elegance, and femininity.

we can witness an experimental play with the repetition of horizontal lines, the different textures, the colour-blocked tones, the contrast of the jacquard fabrics and the gradations of denims which elevates the entire collection, all balanced out by classic silhouettes. The collection is very versatile and can be mixed and matched with different tops, bottoms, vests, and shackets. The collection comprises of a denim-layered vest with belt buckle details on the side, a double-breasted adjustable shacket featuring different types of pockets and a belt buckle closure, giving the wearer the option to wear the shacket loosely or cinched, and an extra wide leg pants with a side seam pocket. A pair of denim bermuda shorts is also added to the collection to showcase the collections versatility. This aims to capture the essence of a true Maria Clara woman. Someone who is empowered, elegant, goal-driven, and ready to conquer the world in style. The space is situated at the prestigious Harrods in London and is strategically positioned between Gucci and Prada. The brand serves as a perfect balance of the different aesthetic of the two high end brands. The shacket is priced at $550, the pants at $520, and the vest at $1,100 for wholesale pricing.
