CONCEPT STATEMENT

Modern Nomad is a response to the rise of working professionals or business owners who work digitally in remote locations all over the world. These digital nomads typically equipped themselves with a computer and a small luggage of clothes. They work, play and travel all at the same time. COVID-19 lockdowns changed the 9-5 dynamic of working life as we know it; more people are working remotely or working from home. Modern Nomad is the all-youneed outfit that is travel-ready yet trendy for a nomadic life in a postpandemic, digitally-reliant world. The silhoutte takes inspiration from the traditional Mongolian nomad outfit, the Deel which is a high collar tunic, worn with decorative sash. The lapels on the shacket are adapted from Japanese samurai armor which extend from the shoulder and have geometric qualities. These armors typically have metal flaps to protect the lower half of the body, which has also been adapted into the design of Modern Nomad. The use of primary color red, blue and yellow is enhanced with hand screen printed houndstooth prints, quiltings and pin-tucks. This creates a strong balance to the oversize fit of the shacket.

Utilitarian wear is a prominent trend this 2021-2022 seasons on the runway. Brands such as Thom Browne, Schiaparelli and Lacoste showed clothes with makeshift outfits, bags on bags and oversized hoods.
