De Vaas draws inspiration from Delft pottery and the meaningful ways flowers carry personal symbolism across cultures, histories, and individual experiences. The collection reimagines the vase as both a functional vessel and a symbolic container for memory, sentiment, and emotional inheritance. Traditional ceramic qualities such as curved silhouettes, painted surface motifs, structural solidity, and delicate glazed finishes inform the sculptural shapes and layered textural treatments throughout the work. Material integrity and sustainability guide the design process. Wool, denim, calico and crinoline form the foundation of the textile palette. These fabrics were selected for their strength, structure and adaptability across sculptural forms. This approach allows for a balance between volume and delicacy while also supporting responsible production. Silver metal elements appear throughout the collection and reference the cool colour palette and ornamental characteristics associated with Delftware. Their presence creates a link between historic craft traditions and contemporary couture design. Florals are embedded within the collection as symbols rather than decoration alone. Their meaning shifts depending on the wearer, reflecting the broader idea that clothing can hold memory, association and emotional narrative. The interplay between structured shapes and translucent layers echoes the dual nature of ceramic vessels which can be protective and fragile, ornamental and practical. Through thoughtful material choices, sculptural construction and narrative driven detailing, De Vaas explores the concept of clothing as a vessel for meaning. Each piece is intended to function as a wearable artefact that connects traditional craftsmanship with present day emotion and invites personal interpretation from the wearer.
